Open your mouth and make several sequential inhalations in through your mouth and out through your nose. This will draw less humid air in through your mouth for some time and serve to dry the surface of the area around your tonsils. With a dried mouth, you can use your finger to retract the forward skin flap because it will have greater friction so you just touch the pad of your finger outward of your tonsil and pull outwardly gently. This will further open the tonsilar crypt and make it easier to pick out the tonsiloth. Sometimes they even fall out when the forward tonsilar tissue is retracted.

If you have a steady hand, you can pick out the tonsil stone without poking the flesh of your tonsil: no gag reflex. Best tool for the job is a lighted ear curette:

http://www.amazon.com/Lighted-Curette-Earpick-Pick-Remover/dp/B0056FKJDM

The translucent pick end will deliver light right where you need it and save you from needing a third had to hold a flashlight. Although having a third hand would be a superior solution for many other tasks really. Goro must not have tonsiloths.

I haven’t used them personally but these have great reviews: Lobe Miracle Ear Lobe Support Patches, 60 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074WZVF78/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_cZ7IDbJWA4ABF

Other tips are great, just want to add car sickness or morning sickness, you can find cheap barf bags online.

I have to keep one with at all times as I and all 4 of my kids get motion sickness pretty easily.

These are the ones I use but I am sure you can find them cheaper. They work great and even have closures so you don't have to smell it if you can't stop for a garbage bin immediately.

Whelp since we have to use what we have on hand looks like I am having a bunch of Nabisco snack packs and one last back of Pizza Flavored Combos.....not actually too upset about that. Alright, I chose a few options for if I win because I am not very good at choosing things. Everything is $10 or less before shipping: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Thanks for the contest :)

u/dontforgetpants · 8 pointsr/sustainability

I am going to disagree right off the bat with Inasaba. Without trashcan liners there are multiple risks for littering garbage into the environment. First, when the trash cans are being dumped into the truck, and second, more importantly, when the truck is being dumped into the landfill. I've toured one of the landfill and recycling centers near Austin, and the amount of small trash pieces getting picked up and blown around/away even just from bags that ripped was pretty incredible, and the workers there said that that was one of their bigger challenges. Plus, as you said, it makes the bathroom trash and the bathroom cleaning process much less sanitary, especially if you have bodily fluids going into the trash can like tissue, tampons, band-aids, etc.

I think what is a much better solution is to look for trash bags that are made from recycled plastic, like these or these. It is important for us, as consumers, to indicate to large companies that we value sustainability by putting our money where our mouth is. When more customers buy those types of products and the big-name manufacturing companies like Unilevel and Proctor & Gamble see their "green" products doing well, they invest more into growing those product lines, which helps bring the cost down so that more and more people can afford them.

I think there is also obviously the common-sense approach to this. Recycle as much as you can, but don't sacrifice sanitation in the name of questionable, very small, potential sustainability improvements. There are much more effective ways to be sustainable.

My gf bought something like these and I started using one. Works pretty good. Just stick it in your ear carefully at different angles and scoop out wax. Feels great.

u/planesandpancakes · 6 pointsr/BlackPeopleTwitter

If you really want to change your life, here you go. These are really popular in China and they’re AMAZING! Saves me a $99 trip to the ear doc to clean my ears out. The wife and I do each other’s ears about 4x a year. It’s orgasmic. Strongly recommend to anyone in this sub. It’s scratching an itch you never knew existed. Soften it up with some debrox and/or hydrogen peroxide (it’s like pop rocks in your ear) before the cleansing and its game on.

u/reviewguy2020 · 2 pointsr/earwax

There are a few products on Amazon that can help with getting ear wax out. Same things that the doctors use. Just add hydrogen peroxide. I've been using these ones and they work pretty well:

Literally no one mentioned ear picks.

https://www.amazon.com/HaloVa-Stainless-Two-ended-Deep-cleaning-Non-slip/dp/B07CC96CHP/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=Ear+pick&qid=1556843750&s=gateway&sr=8-11

TECHNICALLY you really aren't supposed to use this, as putting anything in your ear is ill-advised...

But dude. They work so well. You can get so deep and scoop a lot of shit out. They don't work on the super deep level, but at that point it's better to let nature sort it out, but these things help tremendously.

u/ecofriend94 · 2 pointsr/ZeroWaste

Reusable makeup rounds for sure, you can make your own or buy them. You can use that to remove makeup, apply toner, etc. Here is a link to more makeup wipe/rounds options: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.self.com/gallery/reusable-makeup-wipes/amp

There are silicone q-tips that you can wrap a cotton round around and use that when you are doing your makeup, or if your crafty you can make some sleeves for the ends that you can put in a laundry bag (most cotton rounds come with a laundry bag if you are buying them vs making them)

If you have ever thought about an ear-pick, there are stainless steel ear picks, you can use that to wrap a cotton round around and use that as you "q-tip." I'm adding this because the ear-picks are generally smaller than the silicone q-tips, so it would be more precise with whatever you do with them in your makeup routine.

Not sure if you are thinking about other toiletries too, but you can make your own deodorant, I love mine.

u/DonLaFontainesGhost · 3 pointsr/self

***NOTE ONE: Don't use q-tips to clean out your ears. You could damage your ear drum, and they don't work anyway. (Proof below) You should use something like this to clean your ears. Tilt head, ear drops in ear, wait while you hear fizzing & tingling. After about a minute or two, fill the rubber bulb with warm water, tilt head other way over the sink, squirt water in ear. If you have oily skin, be prepared for a shock at what comes out.

Now, back to our ear insects....

----

Same exact thing happened to me last week, except I had an earwig oh joy. If it makes you feel better, 20 years in this house, 10 years in that bed & mattress and this is the only time it's happened. I read up online and the general consensus seems to be "sometimes it happens."

The most amazing thing about the event - I would've thought I'd be squicking out for days like I did after seeing the weevil boob, but I took a shower, thoroughly cleaned my ears, and I really haven't thought about it until reading this, and it's still not bugging me.

PS: Q-Tips don't work: Get a drinking straw. Now get a little ball of something - play-doh, clay, putty, etc. Shove some of it into the straw and shove it down into the straw about .5" / 1cm. Now get a q-tip and get the clay out. You may note that you're not really "cleaning" anything - you're just shoving it in deeper.

Here endeth the lesson.

u/clumsyfork · 1 pointr/homelab

I searched again and some pictures show molded. Many others don't show you the angle to see where the wires enter. I did find these which look like they are a new addition to amazon and they appear to be the crimped style: https://www.amazon.com/SIENOC-Splitter-Female-Adapter-Cable-15CM/dp/B01LWM3CPV/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1506007598&sr=8-9&keywords=molex+to+sata+splitter

There are no reviews though and they are selling 5 of them for $6.99 so I hope the quality is good. Are there any that you could recommend?

This + this helped me out a lot. It's nice to deep clean your ears every few weeks or so.

u/Athterath · 1 pointr/CrazyIdeas

People had been using ear spoons, ear picks, and ear scoops to clean their ears for centuries before cotton swabs were invented.

These days you can buy metal, plastic, and bamboo spoons, as well as other ear cleaning tools--little plastic loops, spirals, and scrub brushes, for instance. You can get tool kits and grooming kits that include ear spoons, an spoons with built-in flashlights. And there are a number of companies that sell reproductions of spoons from past cultures, in case you want something a little more distinctive.

u/The_Atomic_Comb · 1 pointr/UCI

You had to pay $25 dollars to get your earwax removed? Huh. On Amazon there are these ear picks that cost only $9.99. And I once used some water ear picks that I am certain were quite cheaper than $25.

Most people just have a small ear scoop:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00B8WXX7Q/ref=pd_aw_sims_2?pi=SS115&simLd=1

I actually think the ones with the fluff ball at the end are gross because you can't really clean them properly. I have one that is clear in the middle and glows with an LED similar to this:

No worries! You can also use ear curettes if you don’t like water in your ear (like me), but I’m always scared I’ll jab it through my ear lol
