I happened to have this 6'x4' exercise mat, which I put down in the center of my play space.

http://amazon.com/Pogamat-Large-Exercise-Mat-Anti-Tear/dp/B00HET4WEK

Since my playspace is roughly 10'x6.5', it works pretty well and leaves a foot or so border around the edge of the room. If slipping is a real big thing for you, you may not want a border, but I just wanted something comfortable under foot and for kneeling, and it works well for that.

I like that it's only about 1/4" thick, but still quite supportive, so there's no high lip for my toes (or cord) to get caught on. It's one large sheet, not interlocking tiles. Stays in place on my hardwood floor without any assistance, has never budged.

I have a home dojo and I have these mats from the Amazon seller - We Sell Mats

I have about 14 ft x 12 ft. They are super light, foldable, and you can most definitely throw on them (no makikomis or anything crazy though). They are way more forgiving than traditional tatami mats.

They use the same type of foam (3 different densities, the most dense at the top) as the new style roll out mats which make them lighter, firm to stand on yet absorbant.

Hope that helps.

Work out thing I have more stuff on my WLs, but it's pretty spread out. I think I have a workout DVD and an ab wheel, and a yoga mat. Yoga mat that I'd probably prefer. But choose what you'd like!

Imagineiff Or Marital Reaction or I've never or What's yours like? or Smart Ass.

As you can tell, I like me some games too. :)

Awesome space! Loving the lava lamp haha.

I actually decided against getting a carpet for mine and opted for some workout puzzle mats. They have a lot more cushion if I want to kneel or lay down.

Here is what I bought

u/thundahstruck · 1 pointr/yoga

Great idea. The studio does rent them for $3 I think. Maybe I could rent one and ask to have the $3 credited toward a purchase.

I am concerned about the thickness, but I think it will be an improvement on my beach-towel-clipped-to-10mm-thick-mat solution.

u/CostaBJJ · 1 pointr/bjj

I second this. I got puzzle mats and they are fabulous.
If you wanna train Judo throws, just put two layers of them. They get a little softer in time, and they keep really nice. I cover mine with a big blanket when not in use so that the cats don't scratch it up

I got these ones ... wonderful training mats and on sale atm

Lord have mercy. this was just asked last week. the moderators should make a sticky.

should be $120- $300+ depending on exactly what you want, and how nice you want it. Heres is a $150 option and what i have in my garage which works perfectly.

Is the garage 'finished'. The pics may answer that, but I'm at work. Limited access.

A lot of garages don't have drywall or even pegboard to hang tools. All you can see is the frame. Also, there's never a such thing as too many shelves in a garage. Or a toolbox if he needs one?

These are also great for garage floors. Cheap, easy to put down and replace. I don't know how I lived without these once I put them down.

We use work out mats similar to this (which might help with stinky bacteria) or this. They also work excellently for camping mats when backpacking :) We keep them in our coat closet and haven't had any issues with smell.

Thanks for the info, especially about security. I'll get a locking cabinet.

I'm pretty overweight and don't want to be too uncomfortable while shooting. It looks like I should pick up some elbow pads and a pad to put on the ground. Would something like this pad be appropriate? (link). Or should I try to find something specific to shooting.

I can suggest these

https://www.amazon.com/We-Sell-Mats-Multi-Color-Interlocking/dp/B0014H9Y6O

they're soft enough for short falls but not bulky and annoying

great for my kids playroom

u/TheSpyderFromMars · 1 pointr/ValveIndex

Wow, $300 on Amazon. Any cheaper alternatives that are comparable?

My kids (judo) and I (BJJ) use mats in our house for stretching, workouts, and drills. We bought two of these. We'll arrange them side by side (8' x 8') for low-intensity sparring or throwing (can't quite do full-speed throws, but it's good for practicing). We put them end to end (8' x 16') for movement drills, like shrimping and animal walks.

We're quite consistent, and have been doing such for a long time. The key is that you have someone to do it with, I think, and that you have goals that can be met by your equipment. I don't expect real rolling, but rather use the mats at home so I can get in daily drills and practice movements. I can only train three times a week, so this is a good supplement.

I use Pro Source's extra thick version for the floor where I play darts and they are nice and definitely help with keeping my feet from hurting. Would probably work well for a VR space if one needs that extra padding. Only possible con I can think of would be the edges not being tapered like on the mat the OP got which could maybe be an issue when not being able to see where you're walking. Could maybe cut them to have the taper or do something else to the ends.

I have seen some people use bands around the bench to create more friction to the bench, might be worth a shot. Also seen people using some sort of friction mat. There is also benchpress t-shirts with a huge print on the back to create more friction.

Take heart. Fortunately, people prone to headbanging can still lead productive lives.

Seriously though, what about foam puzzle mats like these:
http://www.amazon.com/Sell-Mats-Anti-Fatige-Interlocking-Flooring-Multi-Color/dp/B001KKIM0O/ref=lp_2522073011_sp-atf_title_1_17?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1404696863&sr=1-17

They're lightweight, and they interlock so you'd only have to anchor them in a few strategic places to the wall.

The image makes me laugh "Eat your medicine or no vegetables." Vlad will pull up a mat and spit them out under it as soon as I leave the room. He's also avoiding any treat we've used to trick him into taking it which makes me sad. I'm hoping to switch from tramadol to metacam at our next vet visit so we won't have to force him. Celery root is safe, just check to be sure it doesn't disagree with him. We usually save the skin from when we use it for cooking. He likes little thin slivers of turmeric root, but is moody about ginger and will eat it some days and not others. He will readily drink it as chilled diluted tea, tho.

Vlad also peed on the foam beds at first, but I guess he's sure they're marked now... We also use these to put a step in front of his litter box or he can't get in to use it. We just throw them into the bathtub and spray them down if his behind sticks out over the edge of the litter box and he pees on them.
