I use over under grip because that feels a lot stronger to me. Also, for heavier sets I will wear my [harbinger lifting grips](Harbinger Lifting Grips, Black, Small/Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EDIGBGM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_MeKnybZF93X6N). I started with the wraps but I prefer the grips.
I also worked on improving my hand / grip strength. I keep these squeeze spring things [similar to these ](Sportfit Hand Grip Strengthener Set - Soft Foam Hand Exerciser for Quickly Increasing Wrist Forearm and Finger Strength - 2 Hand Grips Included https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0178B63FY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_aiKnybZZ144EY) in the car and do them while I'm waiting at stop lights.
So I have a few suggestions here.
TL;DR: Use your legs more; engage back later; go to straight angle; alt grip might help; straps?
Good job on the PR though!
Hey jfc3po,

I scoured the lands, through many valleys and frequently was told by soothsayers and breathern that my weakness was TI bands or my LCL. But nay! This explanations, much like a soothsayer reading stars and horoscopes, only partially fit my puzzle but neverthless left me puzzled still.
And then lo, I stumbled upon https://youtu.be/URP-zMbryEc and it explained much! Praise be to Brodin, when next I humbly visited his temple I did as asked and I was blessed with many gainz.
Brodin did not create me in his likeness to continue my ignorant ways. So I did continue my quest for more lore in the dungeons at the Tube of You. And I hunted for armor within the dangers of the Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011PYZNRE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_1vcDCbJC7S345
And the gainz! They were a glory to behold my friend! Praise be to Brodin!
Amazing! Thank you so much for commenting this is really, really helpful. I was actually looking at wrist braces last night and saw these ones recommended by some trainers!
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010116LPU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A16NBD6W1KJM1H&psc=1
I will definitely do those soft stretches after cardio. What a good idea.
Thanks again!!
What IPF approved wrist wraps does everyone like/not like? I haven't used them in forever, and I have these ones (that are not IPF approved) from my CF days. They obviously aren't crazy supportive, but I liked them well enough. There just seem to be so many different options (flex/medium/stiff, almost every approved brand has multiple options, etc). I'd love some feedback/reviews on what others have used before I buy a pair.
Depends on what you want them for. I got these ones from Amazon for under $10 and I've been totally happy with them! I use them for deadlifts mainly, and also front squats for extra mobility.

However, I also have Versa Grips which were $56 at the time, and I love them as well! I use them for more general pulling movements, like lat pull downs, pull ups, rows, etc.

So if you want straps specifically for deadlifts, go with simple ones. If you want to do a lot of things with them, you might want ones that are more of the Versa Grip style (because you can use the grips with one hand and don't have to wrap)
Some of the best value wrist wraps I’ve used so far:
https://www.amazon.com/Stoic-Weightlifting-Powerlifting-Bodybuilding-Professional/dp/B010116LPU/ref=asc_df_B010116LPU/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198090817675&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9198328859369949446&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9012306&hvtargid=pla-320313516858&psc=1&th=1
Stiff, thick, hold their shape well, very supportive, and pretty cheap compared to the FitSpo-branded alternatives. The 18-inch version is all you really need, even though you can get double-length to create a soft cast for your wrist if necessary.
I used to have the same problem with my trailing knee when I started curling.
As has been said, ideally you'll want to get to a point where your trailing knee isn't coming into contact with the ice.
That being said, as others have suggested using a knee pad until you get to that point is some solid advice.
For myself, I found a wrestling knee pad worked really well. It was comfortable, stayed in place, provided excellent protection, and I easily fit it under my pants. Plus it was relatively inexpensive. Here is a link.
I remember looking into getting Rehbands a year or two ago, and back then there didn't seem to be many alternatives with the same material and thickness. However, I did a quick search this weekend and now there are a bunch of Rehband copycats available on Amazon.
Neoprene, 7mm thick, prices in USD at time of post for two knee sleeves (for reference Rehbands are around $80 for a pair right now):
If you think you might want something even more affordable but isn't neoprene 7mm, then Hookgrip has a pair for $12. I'd wager that these would offer less support than Rehbands, though.
I really only looked into the Nordic Lifting ones for myself (ordered them earlier today), and from my research they seem to be on par with Rehbands at best depending on the reviewer. I'd try looking for video reviews on YouTube for whatever interests you.
Edit: Formatting
Cheaty stupid heavy BB rows, T-bar rows, and Kroc rows are good, but I get better results from using reasonably strict form, a good hard squeeze in the contracted position, and a slow negative.
If you ever need a pair of really heavy duty straps for back training, these figure 8 straps are the best money can buy imo and pretty cheap.
They wrap around your wrist, then the bar, then back around your wrist so that its practically impossible for the weight to slip even a little bit.
I primarily play indoor and to save my knees from the turf, I use asics gel knee pads. I make a small incision on the inside of the sleeve (at the bottom of the pocket) and pull out the gel insert so they aren't so thick and make sliding easier but with a little bit of padding that the sleeve offers. I usually tape the bottom with mueller cloth tape to keep them from sliding down on slides and electrical tape at the top to keep the rubber bits from the turf out while playing. I play year round averaging about 2 games a week and they are still holding up after 4 years.
Looking for some wrist support. What do you all recommend?
Looking at Rip Toned Wrist Wraps 18" Professional Grade with Thumb Loops - Wrist Support Braces for Men & Women - Weight Lifting, Crossfit, Powerlifting, Strength Training (Red Stiff) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CWGBNT6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_U8X2Cb4HRGJKC
Yeah, I use wraps for lifting - those and fish oil are all there is between comfort and crippling tendonitis in my case - I tend to injure wrists often without the aid of both.
I got by with these for ages, but just last week bought these to replace them - I like them better as they're much more convenient to undo between sets.
I have no idea what is going on, and I'm not a PT or anything like that, but I found relief for my shoulder issues with compression sleeves and properly warming up the muscles. Overhead lunges with a light kettlebell to strengthen the shoulders helped a bunch too. Take it with a grain of salt, because like I said, I have no idea what your specific issue is, but those things fixed my issue.
How much do you want to spend? Rehbands and SBDs are the two big names in knee sleeves (they'll run you probably $80-$90 though), but I hear very good things about the Mark Bell knee sleeves also (and they're a bit cheaper).
http://www.amazon.com/SlingShot-Knee-Sleeves-Mark-Bell/dp/B00Q7OSQY0
Brandon Campbell has good reviews of all 3 on YouTube.
Gloves actually make things harder to grip because they effectively make the bar thicker. Wrist straps would make more sense instead as a crutch.
I use chalk and hook grip, and that's more than sufficient for my deadlifts. Also make sure that your hand placement is correct. For deadlifts, keeping the bar at the top of the palm will reduce callous formation. For bench press, keeping the bar in the middle of the palm will reduce strain on wrists.
Thanks all. I use liquid chalk and it does help. My bar is new so the knurling is pretty aggressive.
I think I'll get these then and try them out.
10 bucks on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Rip-Toned-Neoprene-Padded-Lifting/dp/B01J7L8HYS/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1501507267&sr=8-7&keywords=wrist%2Bwrap%2Bweightlifting&th=1
I had an issue with my right knee last year. I used one of these for a couple weeks. Nice and cheap. It's thin enough where it doesn't impeed mobility, but still padded enough to help protect.
Try wrestling stole knee pads. ASICS Gel Reversible, White/Black, Medium https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LGYCG6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_PtZWCbX4Y2T1B. The passing is more of a gel so it should be less likely to break down. Granted there is less cushion as well but should certainly help
It's pretty bruised and still swollen (and all my co-workers seem to think the nail is going to fall off), but I can bend it at both joints so I'm pretty sure it's not broken.
The straps in my gym bag are these - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00COY99U2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 that my boyfriend bought and never used. I already planned to skip my deadlift day for at least this week and just re-try to my chest day (what I was doing Monday when I had the oops) so I'm hoping that by next Wednesday/Thursday it won't hurt so bad anymore and I can resume DLs.
Keep the wrist straight and don't bend it. Use these. Good luck!
Lifting Straps?
https://www.amazon.com/Lifting-Wrist-Straps-Rip-Toned/dp/B00COY99U2
You can get them pretty much at any fitness store. I got a pair at Hibbet for like $4.97 and they held up during a 575 deadlift, so you don't need to spend much on them.
I have had a pair of these in daily use for over a year and I love them. I have backup pairs in case. They are stiff and actually keep my wrist in place. Also super quick to put on and take off because of the Velcro loop. I despise the elastic fabric wraps, they do nothing for me.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0030FY0GM/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_RfbZub131G4BM
You can get straps for around $10, I don't know your financial situation so maybe you don't have it to spare and I hope I'm not being condescending, but just trying to be helpful...also switching to chalk pretty much made me ditch straps until my final reps.
https://www.amazon.com/Rip-Toned-Lifting-Wrist-Straps/dp/B00COY99U2/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1542221151&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=deadlift+straps&psc=1
5’1”, with small hands.

Figure 8 straps work well for me. Like them better than standard straps.
Yeah, they're these: http://www.amazon.com/Versa-Gripps%C2%AE-Weight-Lifting-Straps/dp/B002Y2S6K8. The callouses I really don't mind/care about. (I get mine on my palm right below my fingers, rather than on them, though.) What was eating at me was that any time I was trying to pull heavier weights on deadlifts/rows, I'd have the bar slipping out of my hands by rep 2-3. The Versas have worked like a charm. I might try them for pullups next. I've finally gotten to where I can do weighted ones now, so they may come in handy there.
What's the difference between [these] (https://www.amazon.ca/Lifting-Wrist-Straps-Rip-Toned/dp/B00COY99U2/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1496168491&sr=8-5&keywords=versa+grips) and [these] (https://www.amazon.ca/Ez-Gripz-Fit-Advanced-Flexible-Self-Support/dp/B018LPM8O6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1496168491&sr=8-3&keywords=versa+grips)? Does one feel better than the other? I've been using myprotein wrist wraps for a while and I don't really like them ; looking for something better.
Would recommend the same, their CS is great. Had to replace them a couple of times. I bought the set that includes wrist wraps and lifting straps, ends up being cheaper and they carry a lifetime warranty. I'm not sure why they don't advertise it for these.

Also, I have these and they work great and are holding up well too.
Versa Gripps
The best. I didn't chalk once through any of MURPH. Ripping never once crossed my mind. The only problem with them is they are hard to turn your hand over on top of the bar doing muscle ups. Anything hanging under the bar though... money.
As other mentioned, I wear knee pads under my leg pads. But mine are neoprene wrestling pads. The kneeling pad part is nice for landing on. The neoprene sleeve is comfortable.
I ordered a lifting straps
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00COY99U2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
to support my hands, and looking for lifting belt, what are the good products to buy?
Rip Toned Wrist Wraps 18" Professional Grade with Thumb Loops - Wrist Support Braces for Men & Women - Weight Lifting, Crossfit, Powerlifting, Strength Training (Red Stiff) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CWGBNT6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Xh3HDbVRBK8RM
Mine just have a loop of 1/2" (maybe 3/8") wide elastic sewn along the edge:

That being said, the ones I have are $19.99 for 2 sets. Admittedly, the don't say Rogue on them, but they do the job just fine and a lot easier than cobbling on a loop.

Edit: words
For the axle I use WOW straps.
For barbell deadlifts I just use Rip Toned straps that I got off amazon for less than $10. I like these better than elite fts or Cerberus straps that I have.
> Straps
Something Like this from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Lifting-Wrist-Straps-Rip-Toned/dp/B00COY99U2/ref=zg_bs_13106341_1
Or:
http://www.amazon.com/Lifting-Neoprene-Rubbery-Grip-Support/dp/B00L1H2C20/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1458830878&sr=8-12&keywords=Straps+lifting
Or something else?
Thanks for the suggestion. This could possibly provide the captain hook method to do pulling exercises.
I use straps. You can work on grip strength on its own. Don't let your deadlift progress stall just because of grip. I usually do warm up without straps, then straps for heavy sets, and last set as many as possible without straps. I train my grip with deadhangs, or holding heavy dumbbells when doing other single leg exercises.
I waited so long to use straps because I thought I was cheating. Then I sucked it up and bought it. I immediately wish I did it sooner when I crushed my RDL reps at the gym without the worry of focusing on grip and was able to focus on form.
I don't use straps for regular deadlifts, because the quick tap reset at the bottom (even if it's a quarter of a second) seems to help and not require the assistance of straps.
This is what I got:
Lifting Wrist Straps by Rip Toned (Pair) - Cotton - Neoprene Padded - for Weightlifting, Bodybuilding, Xfit, Strength Training, Powerlifting, MMA https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00COY99U2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3ueRDbM1HBDRZ
I always bend my wrists when lifting. Like when I bench, the bar settles in my palm, with my wrist at a 90 degree angle rather than stacked. I've always struggled with weak wrists.
Would wrist straps help? I'm thinking that maybe it'll help me stay more conscious of where my wrists are, and I can correct them. I'm thinking something like [this](Evolutionize Medium Stiff Wrist Wraps, 18 Inch - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010116LPU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_sPHFybJZ2AKW1). I don't need help holding the weight, my grip is fine, I just need to stack my wrists more.
Wrist wraps can help and not all that expensive of an investment. You can get something like this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TCQY964/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_nGjSyb1F3R3J3
Or this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010116LPU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_cHjSyb6MP0YMN
These are the ones I have/use. They are awesome. ASICS Unisex Gel Wrestling Knee Pad ASICS http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005ACKYZY/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_Am0jtb0FTCV6D
I use these. Only $10 and they work great. Check them out if you're looking for a new pair.

I like [Versa Gripps] (https://www.amazon.com/Versa-Gripps-Weight-Lifting-Straps/dp/B002Y2S6K8) quite a bit as well.
On top of using correct wrist form, you can also try wrist wraps. They really help stabilize your wrists These are the ones I use.

Oh, alright then. My lifts are still beginner - low intermediate level so I should be fine with it I guess.
What brand of straps/wraps should I look into? Would these get the job done?
maybe try wrist braces like these http://amzn.com/B0030FY0GM
I've dealt with pain in my elbows, forearms, and wrists for a while. They seem to all be linked. I've found that three things really help:
I had a problem with getting super bruised knees, I bought a pair of these (link below) and slowly weaned myself off them until my knees toughened up and I knew how to move properly.
http://www.amazon.com/ASICS-Unisex-Gel-Wrestling-Knee/dp/B005ACKYZY/ref=pd_sim_sg_8
has anyone tried these:
https://www.amazon.com/White-Crusher-Knee-Elbow-Sleeves/dp/B00ELK8TBW
I am curious what triple ply means, what they’re made of, etc
just generic wrist straps. You can buy them online or any store that sells workout stuff i am sure.
https://www.amazon.com/Lifting-Wrist-Straps-Rip-Toned/dp/B01J7L8HYS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1479069227&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=lifting+wrist+straps&psc=1
Just an example
if you want a pair to use during other activities I would get a second pair similar to the Hookgrip knee sleeves. the hook grip ones can be pricey but there are cheaper versions on amazon.

Any kind of nylon strap will be just fine. I've been using these for a few months.

I like these but i have never tried anything else, so i have nothing to compare to.
I'm interested. Is it these? saw this in a previous post, but without a link to the product you are referring to I am not sure

Try figure 8 straps

Wrist wraps
I've used different kinds and found that the Asics wrestling knee pads for me works the best.
If your bursitis is bad (like mine) the padding will still somewhat irritate it, but with other kneepads I can't even put my knee down.

I bought this chalk in September for $12 a pound. Comes in 8 blocks. Have not finished a full block yet and I workout 5+ times a week on average, so I imagine it'll last 2 years minimum.
I bought these straps when I decided I didn't want to use mixed grip anymore since they had the best reviews on Amazon and I have no complaints, they're excellent.
Now I just need to stop losing my goddamn wrist wraps.
Hi there. I broke my wrist 3 years ago. I tried bench press last week it really hurts now (felt ok at the time). Not totally sure if it's from the break but my other wrist is fine ... Has anyone had experience with bench press after a broken wrist? Is it probably just bad form? Should I be strengthening my wrist (and if so how)? Should I be using something like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B010116LPU ? Thanks in advance.
Here's an easy one for you.
I was a gymnast so i have plenty of them lying around.. but if you can find a pair of old Velcro grips for High Bar or rings. Simply cut off the part that goes over your hand/palm so all that's left is the wrist part. Just keep those tight around your wrists when you're doing handstands etc. I have terrible wrists from years of pommels and pbars.. this is pretty much the only way I can get a full workout in, otherwise my wrists kill me within 10 minutes of starting a workout.
If you can't get any of those, just buy a pair of these.. http://www.amazon.com/Grizzly-Fitness-Power-Training-Wrist/dp/B0030FY0GM/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1405536776&sr=8-7&keywords=wrist+support or something similar.
