This subreddit has given me some great tips - one of the few places where the comments are often better than the posts!

The ones that have worked for me are:-

  • When washing up, fill a washing up bowl and place on the counter top - rather than in the sink, even then I tend to hold the plates etc in mid air while washing, only placing in the bowl to start/finish the job.
  • I find that preparing food sitting down at the breakfast bar is better for the back
  • Get the shower head higher (generally quite easy in the UK - seems to be rather tougher in the states)
  • Get some elephants feet things for your arm chair https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gordon-Elephant-Raiser-5-5-inch-Eligible/dp/B006ON520U/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1519421591&sr=8-2&keywords=elephants+feet
  • When travelling on buses head for the emergency exit, in the UK any bus made since about 2000 has extra leg room there
  • Raise your desk and monitor - desk raising bricks are a cheap way to modify an existing desk, and at a push a lot of books will do the monitor. The adjustable desk at work is awesome - 80cm vs the standard 73cm makes so much difference.
  • Get a decent computer desk chair if you spend a lot of time there - the Ikea MARKUS has been awesome, for the first time it feels like I'm sat in an office chair rather than perched on-top of it (that being said it could do with going about 1cm higher!)
  • Buy clothes that fit properly - for me it's amazing how much difference you feel. The current trend for Longline T-Shirts mean I finally have T-Shirts of a sensible size, and can find them cheaply on the high street (i.e. Primark) if needed. Generally ASOS.com is good for affordable tall stuff here in the UK.
  • Stretch, walk, be active. Sitting for extended periods isn't good for your back. Personally I find travelling by bike is much better for me than trying to travel in a car or on a bus/train where the seat backs are shaped for much shorter people - the bike you can get to the right position.
  • Avoid the East Midlands Trains HST's like the plague - the fixed arm rests require you to manoeuvre like a gymnast to get it, then the back rests try to bend your back in the wrong place, and the headrests want to destroy your shoulders!
  • If you drive, get some decent sunnies (the large aviator style ones rather than whatever is on trend this week) and keep them in the car - I can't pull the sun-visor down and see ahead, but with decent prescription sunnies I can still see where I'm going!

Thanks for the explanations.

Heard.

65mm M-6 bolts-already bought, for the mounting of the square rails and L bar to the factory rails. I need to buy and finish the L bars. I took my factory setup off a few days ago and sanded it all down and repainted with bumper trim to reduce fading. I’m taking most of it off, but I like to be thorough.

I’ll be cutting the square pole to around 88” and using adjustable chair supports on either side of the sunroof for extra support.

Something like this.

You could turn one or two Mac Pros sideways on top of it, add another 10" or so. Standard desks in my house sit around 28-32" high, so it would do the trick.

Alternatively, you could build a frame above like this and have shelves or drawers or stuff like these old desks.

You could also take /u/ahandle's advice on a scissor jack, only attach it between the Mac Pro and the wood slab so that it served as a desk and a bench. Or you could just drive supports through, up, and out of the Mac Pros, that held the top of the desk at the proper desk height permanently.

That's actually a good idea now that I think about it. Get something like these and either go legs-Macs-desktop or Macs-legs-desktop. You'd have to punch holes in the Macs and make sure everything was sturdy, but there's tons of metal leg options on Amazon to make for some really interesting desk designs.

I've been looking at getting a bigger desk too, and one thing I've been considering is assembling my own from parts on amazon. You can get a decent table top for 50-150, and table legs for 30-100, depending on style, size, and quality. I'll link the ones I'm thinking about ordering.

Flash Furniture 30'' x 60'' Rectangular Resin Walnut Table Top https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FSEHI1G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_rGYMybW1TC15W

Set of 2 Industrial Look Durable Steel Crosscut Trestle Legs for Table , Desk or Workstation , Dark Gray https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B3GBGSY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_YGYMybMPXJM08

There are other options than these, but for less than $200, you can put together a pretty decent, good size desk for yourself.

Just buy some new table legs and remove the entire old setup. I got 28" hairpin legs similar to these (https://www.amazon.com/TE-DEUM-Hairpin-Diameter-Workstation/dp/B077GY96S8/) when I was building a desk earlier this year, and they work great. Very strong and stable, and they just screw into the wood bottom of the desk/table.

Ikea also has lots of table legs at reasonable prices (https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/legs-trestles-11845/)

u/baddadandtheboi · 2 pointsr/AskBattlestations

What's the rough size you are looking for? Anyway, given your criteria these are probably the choices I would go with. They should all have free shipping.

55" x 55" x 24" L-Shape - $143.99

55" x 23.6" Desk, looks a little higher quality - $139.99

33 7/8 " x 19.5" x 23 5/8" - L-Shape, Keyboard Drawer, little shelf - $109.00

'47-71" x 35.5" x 29.5" - Office Style Desk - $188.05

71.5" x 23.25" - Table top - NO legs - $35.00

28" hairpin table legs - 4 pack - $59.99

Also check out Home Depot or a hardware store/lumber yard maybe. They often sell table tops and counter tops, all you would need is legs.

u/anilinered · 2 pointsr/furniture

You should take a look at how the metal bracket is attached to the wood portion of the bottom of the sofa. If it can simply be unscrewed, I would consider finding a like leg and bracket attachment. Amazon has lots. Make sure it’s a similar shape and stain. Also make sure it’s solid wood. This is all assuming there is no solution through Wayfair.

It's definitely missing the legs.

The legs would have been integrated into the plinth that looks like it's still there on this piece, here's a pic.

If you can't get the original legs it won't look quite right unless you have some custom ones made ($$$), but you can get pretty close for not too much money. They won't quite fit right with the plinth, and it will take a little fiddling, but if you get the color right on the legs most people will probably never notice. You'll also need these.

The fiddling might be the hardest part, since the original legs will probably have had a stud in one side that holds them to the plinth like this. For those Wadell legs you have to screw that plate to the bottom of the piece, and the legs will have a stud coming out of the top of them that screws into that plate. None of it's going to line up quite right. You could remove the plinth altogether if you go this route though, I suppose.

> (IKEA adils legs)

Do you like these legs? I've been looking to get some for a new desk I am going to build. They are just so cheap in price, I wonder how strong they really are but I do not have an Ikea nearby. Right now, I am looking at a set of hairpin legs on amazon (link) but would love to save a little bit of money. Killer setup dude!

u/bclinton · 1 pointr/cade

Here is the kit I used. I had to cut a few long edges to angle (about 15 degrees or so) but other than that it fits together pretty good. The t-slots are already there so it was worth the extra $20 versus getting my own MDF and trying to cut it myself.

Hey guys, hardware question. I hope this is OK here, I couldn't think of a better sub to post in.

I want to build a small, simple stand to lift my small guitar amp up about 6-8" off the floor so I can slide my pedal board underneath it. The only problem is that I live in a 104 year old building and the wood floors are SUPER uneven, especially near the walls.

So what I'm looking for are four height-adjustable legs with leveling feet so I can account for the major level differences as well as the crooked floor. I can find height-adjustable legs in this size range, but none of them have appropriate feet to deal with the crooked floor. Most of them seem to be really thick and meant for heavy duty applications too, where I'd prefer something lighter. My other thought for feet was small, semi-spherical, rubber feet because they could just make point contact with the floor regardless of its crookedness, but I really doubt I'm going to find that.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

I think this bookcase could be an amazing and very chic if one was to put in a little bit of work. For instance: Strip, sand, choose to paint it all or as paint/stain combo, then add some MCM legs and a tasteful wallpaper used as a backer to give depth. Declutter some of those books, add some eccentric bookends, maybe a cool lamp, or plants and you have a conversation piece.

Or add some geometric doors and turn it into a console with the below legs.

Ok, we are likely in different countries, but you should be able to get some furniture legs from your local hardware store, they come in different sizes and have adjustable feet, should do the trick and look good

Edit: something like these: (https://www.amazon.com/BQLZR-Stainless-Adjustable-Diameter-Furniture/dp/B00KQH8JPK/ref=br_lf_m_ost2ycy3r9tv6yw_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&s=hi)

Get a desk table top (or 2):

Ikea Linnmon Desk Table Top 47 Inch with Feltectors (White) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XC4LBC8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_TNTDzbS0RJEGV

You could cut the back side off to get your desired width or search one that's pre-made in the width and depth you want. You get the idea.

Add hairpin legs since you can't wall mount:

4" - 40" Hairpin Legs - 2Rod Design - Raw Steel - 3/8" Diameter - MADE in the USA (16” Height x 3/8" Diameter - Each Leg Sold Separately) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HSDJJKI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_ROTDzbB87NKP0

They even come in different sizes if you want the varying heights. You'll still get clean lines and lots of negative space.

Good luck!

u/clearkill46 · 2 pointsr/simracing

They are 1270mm but if using the vesa arms, perhaps go a little taller. Maybe 1350-1400mm. I had to lower my seat and wheel (only about 5-6mm and it's still super comfortable). I had the seat at max height before for easier exit and entry.

I may just buy some little levelling feet and put those under the stand.

u/theJoosty1 · 1 pointr/starterpacks

Only $160 for a Maple countertop!? That sounds like a killer deal. I bet that looks great.

I was really liking the idea of the all ikea set up, but I think it's too tall for me based on a desk height calculator I found. You've inspired me to get these in the height I need and a countertop from the lumberyard

u/PassMeTheWine · 1 pointr/electronic_cigarette

My husband made a thing..... It fits in my cup holder and has a little slot chisled out for my mod.
It was actually one of those bun type table legs in its previous life.
Like this http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Furniture-Leg-Feet-Pack/dp/B00CNH6Y80

It's fits perfectly!

u/p_qrs · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

If you like DIY that coffee table is an easy and inexpensive one. It's just a sanded piece of wood, stain to color preference and seal, and hairpin legs.

u/ISUWalker · 3 pointsr/woodworking

The legs are your typical hairpin legs. I bought them on Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B013VNLC4K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I am lucky enough to know someone with a thickness sander, so that leveled it out quick. As for the finish, it was a coat of boiled linseed oil followed by 4 coats of Arm N Seal satin poly + oil with a very light 400 grit sanding in between each coat.

u/mawfo · 2 pointsr/battlestations

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077GY96S8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

On Amazon. these were the cheapest 1/2 in thick hairpin legs I could find. I was really excited for the legs because my old desk didn't allow my computer chair arms to go fully under but these 28 inch bad boys alloy for the chair to be perfectly stowed away when not in use.

u/piero1255 · 3 pointsr/vinyl

Thanks man!! Actually the unit is a Besta Ikea hack:

http://www.ikeahackers.net/2014/09/mid-century-modern-record-console.html

Just buy the Besta TV Stand from Ikea, buy it with no legs. What I did was buy industrial hairpin legs and attach them to the unit:

74" walnut Karlby top from IKEA and these legs from Amazon.

I built my desk myself and it looks almost identical to OP's! I got my legs from Amazon.

u/kristinez · 2 pointsr/woodworking

they have a baseplate with screwholes. like this

u/TaedusPrime · 1 pointr/buildapc

I followed a home depot blog for the instructions. Got the wood top locally.

I like the pipe fitting look but between having it cut at home depot and spray painting them evenly black, the legs were 90% of the work.

I told another redditor if I did it again I would go with these legs.

DIY, baby:

these instructions, ish

pre-glued/planed wood panel from big box hardware store (cant' find the link now, but the table is ~18"x48"x3/4") Tried to assemble boards but without a proper way to plane them afterwards it'll never be straight. Plus, I can't lie, I am a joke of a woodworker.

small wood strips for cleats (per those instructions, tweaked for my dimensions)

these hairpin legs

Only difference between me and the instructions is that I used spray polyurethane due to time/space constraints. If I was doing it again, I'd do a proper urethane job.
