This was so much fun! Thanks for posting :)

1 [Something Blue](Playshoes 408566 Girl's Rain Coat Blue 5-6 Years https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001PDN1O8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-CR5AbJ14TEGH). In Scotland April Showers don’t just finish in April! At all points of the year we can expect anything from a light drizzle to torrential rain!

2 Something that says summer. Watermelons totally make me think of summer, and sippy cups are perfect to keep bugs out of your drinks in the summer!

3 food related. A carrot sharpener! I saw these in a local store and couldn’t stop laughing at the thought of someone wanting a really sharp carrot.

4 a gift for someone else. My fiancé is obsessed with this album and I recently bought him a record player so I think he would love having it in this format too!

5 book suggestion. So I don’t know what types of books you are into but this is a YA Fantasy. It follows three sisters who were each born with a power. Now that they are of age, they must use their powers to kill their other sisters and become queen! It’s pretty kick ass :)

6 under $1. Okay so I’m from Scotland and I don’t know if this actually works out to be less than $1 but it is less than £1 so I hope that counts!! And they are really cute :)

7 Doggo related. My spaniel loves things like this! And I think it would work for any dog :)

8 useless but awesome. I’d love for my cats to wear this around Christmas!! Although they’d probably break it within a second haha.

9great movie The LOTRs! Great friendships, a lot of laughs and just a fab story. My all time favourite films!

10Zombie attack. I’m going to be the type of person who hides during the apocalypse and hope for the best! So I think if I find somewhere with some water nearby I could kinda camp out for a while!

11 complete goals. My main goal right now is to be more organised, and to do more creative things. I want to have fun and do more hobbies. So I think a diary where I can be creative and plan all my spare time would be great!

12 add on. WHY ARE PENS ALWAYS ADD ONS????!!!!

13 fandom. This would match my Alice tattoo! And who doesn’t need a purse :)

14 super expensive Jesus!! Who knew you could buy such expensive rings on amazon??

15 sharks or unicorns. Shark cat bed! I can only imagine how my two would react this this haha!

16 wonderful smell. I love this candle! Probably my favourite smell ever!

17 cool toy. I couldn’t find the game I always wanted as a kid, mostly because I couldn’t really remember what it was called! Although here is a Jared Funko pop that I’ve been eyeing up for months!

18 helpful for writers. I thought this was kinda cool. It gives tips on how to get out of writers block as well as mix up characters!

19 current obsession. Musicals are my currently my favourite obsession (see what I did their RHPS fans?)!

20 weird!. I’m just really not sure why these would ever be needed but at the same time I really want a pair haha!

Is your daughter in aba therapy? I would definitely ask her therapist if she has any ideas or witness this kind of behavior before and see what she recommends.

For clothing, I suggest getting bodysuits for your daughter that have snap enclosures at the bottom:

https://www.amazon.com/Toddler-Sleeveless-Bodysuit-8-10-10-12/dp/B0087PZ7DA

They are much harder to open and as you can see from the reviews is popular for older special needs kids. Another idea would be to get rompers that have buttons on the front or back in order take off like:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XHL2F3C/

Do avoid spaghetti straps or anything with large necklines cause those are easy to wiggle out of.

If your daugther likes tight fitting clothes, weighted blankets/vests, etc. You can also try a gymnastics unitard out.

For the pottying aspect, I suggest getting portable potties for every room she spends times in so you and her have fast easy access to plop her down when she needs to go. I suggest sitting her on the potty every hour while awake and every 3-4 when asleep. This can be tweaked based on what you think her pottying habits are, but its a good baseline to start at and time can be slowly incremented once you get a good feel for her toileting times. It helps to keep meals and snack time to be around the same times.

Whenever you sit her down on her potty use sign language, pecs, vocalizaton, whatever you think she will catch on first and be consistent. Let her sit for 5-10 mins than continue throughout your day. When she does potty, make a big deal out of it with whatever motivates her might be singing a song, few m&m's, her favorite youtube video, whatever you decide to use make sure you use it exclusively for a successful potty.

You're right that she see no benefit for her to potty successfully, so that's why you need to create one for her to see and kids with autism it's harder for them to connect the dots, so it's important you are consistent.

It's also okay to take a step back on trying to potty train if you don't think she is developmentally ready and just focus on trying to keep her diaper on.

From each list?

  • Miscellaneous list: High Waisted Pencil Skirt - I've recently discovered how much I love pencil skirts, and it want more. This looks perfect!

  • Books List: Battle Magic by Tamora Pierce - This is the newest book in her series, which I've been reading since I was 12. I still love the series, and am looking forward to continuing it!

  • Cooking List: A Digital Kitchen Scale with Pull Out Display - I've gotten into bread making and more serious baking, which starts to require weighting all your ingredients. I've had my eye on this one in particular because it's stainless steel, and the pull out display is great when your bowl is really big.

  • Tea List: This Tea Mug with Tea Strainer - I'm starting my first big girl job in May, and I'll definitely feel more comfortable there if I can drink my own loose leaf tea. And I love how sleek and easy this mug is, and it just looks so great too! I already have my eye on it being my work mug.

  • Craft List: Ginger Essential Oil - This one was difficult, because this is a multi-part thing. I want to make my own solid perfume, which means I have to get a carrier oil (Almost Oil), beeswax, and whatever I want to smell like. So far I'm thinking I want to smell like ginger, lemon and cloves. Or ginger, lemon, and basil. I plan to make a few different ones and see what I like best.

This was fun! I never really thought about what my highest priority ones were.

I'd say that going for a (mostly) black outfit maybe your best shot at looking professional while also being able to mix in your personal style.

Regarding shirts, this black floaty top will certainly look smart when paired with something like a simple pencil skirt (which is petite too! and elasticated so it'll be comfortable to move around in)

I'd pair these with a pair of simple black or sheer pantyhose, a blazer in any style really, you can't go wrong with an all black outfit and some simple brogues. You can add further personal touches with your hair and jewellery.

If it was something a little more covered up this shirt is pretty good for that.

And to make it a little more casual a cardigan (1) (2) would be a good way to go.

And, lastly, for trousers, these look pretty good and as they are juniors they should fall a little shorter.

Obligatory, Working in my birthday suit and good luck! I hope you find something :)

Much of it comes from Puritanical roots. Perhaps things are different now, but when I was young, Judeo-Christian households carried a certain amount of shame associated with sex, sexual organs, and discussions about them.

More shame and discomfort also comes from society trying to paint every man as some kind of molester. This may even be the biggest factor. This is nothing more than internalized misandry that men must overcome for the sake of their daughters. But internalized misandry it is. There is also external misandry. When shopping pre-K schools for my daughter, I asked if there were any male teachers (as I prefer a balance). I was told by a female teacher that it would be considered a "safety risk" by many parents. I wanted to tell her that sexual abuse convictions of female educators have tripled in the past decade. But I noped right out of there and found a better school. That said, this is what dads face on a daily basis.

As men, it is very easy for us to internalize such blatant misandry. My example is simply one of many that we face each week. Luckily, I did not have the same amount of religious programming as my peers. I just had to face society's anti-male pressures. I can see it being more difficult for my peers who were raised in parochial schools and deeply religious homes.

It takes a mindset to say "Fuck em. This is my daughter and I am her father. We can talk about our bodies. We should talk about our bodies. There is nothing wrong, shameful or dirty about it. "

I was the first to comfortably broach the subject with my daughter. I taught her to wipe and why there is an order of operations. She would happly sing the "Down in the front, up in the back" song that I taught her. Ask her why? "So I don't get Mr. Germ and Mrs. Bacteria in my buh-gina..." Fucking hilarious! And that's exactly what the topic needs, right? A bit of child-like levity.

What has also helped me is to use books from cultures that are not ashamed of the body.

The "where did I come from" question was addressed at 2-3 years old with this one. There are some other Japanese books we used, but I cannot find them online.

Body functions

Undergarments

When they get older this one is more appropriate.

I have to admit, the more you read and talk with them about the subject, the easier it gets. I also got kids' anatomy books to go over the various systems. Using clinical terms helps remove discomfort as does talking about genitals in terms of our pets ("Sada the dog has testicles because he is a boy dog. Men and boys also have testicles just like Sada".)

Regarding inappropriate touching, I find that fathers are probably better at explaining boundaries as we are usually the ones who are more adept at setting clear and consistent boundaries for our children through fatherly discipline. Once we were comfortable discussing the body, it was easy to discuss inappropriate touches. We checked this book out from the library. Good concept, mediocre execution. This one was much better and enjoyable.

These books (and subsequent discussions) helped us set a baseline and standard in the younger years builds trust that moves on to the adolescent and pre-teen years. One of the men in our Dad's Group has a teenage daughter. He was the one who taught her daughter different ways of dealing with her period (cup vs pad vs tampon). He has a wonderful bond with his daughter that was set quite early. That guy has been a great influence on all and has helped many of us remove the shame and stigma around approaching the female body.

A few random factors.

- I grew up in a multi-generational house that had at least 2 girls and women at any one time.

- I have also had plenty of girlfriends and serious (cohabitating) relationships. One girlfriend had ovarian cysts, one girlfriend had very unusually rough 7-day periods. Of course, we discussed these things together.

- I probably found my parents' copy of "The Joy of Sex" at a bit of an early age, too.

- I was the first class in my state to have sex-ed in school. This is when I was living in America. It was very controversial, as we started as 5th graders. Many parents protested this (again, American Puritan roots).

All of these things demystified female genitals and has helped with my comfort with discussions around the female body.

A bit of a ramble. But it breaks my heart to see fathers allow terrible people to drive a wedge between them and successful parental relationships with their daughters. I am skeptical of university studies, as most seek to paint men is a negative light. Perhaps this study will be no different. But maybe this post might help some dads with their discussions and relationships with daughters.

It's a bit spendy, but $260 for a Metolius Magnum is a really good deal. That's what I have, and I love it (and i paid $325 for mine last year).

Generally speaking, yes, get a big pad. A nice bonus is you can sleep on it while camping. Buying a pad on CL is fine as long as it's pretty new and/or gently used. The R3 looks interesting and it's cool that they use scraps, but it's really heavy (almost the same weight as the Magnum) and I'm not crazy about the idea of landing on a surface that's uneven.

Since you said it's not super corporate, and probably a lighter atmostphere I would go with a simple dress and blazer combo. A little color is okay in a more casual environment, but stick with a black blazer and bring the splash of color into your accessories, like a cute necklace or bracelet.

I like to carry something with a four leaf clover for good luck!

I hope it goes well for you! Please do update us :) Thanks for the contest.

  1. Tea tree! Because all the products I cleanse my body and face with are tea tree and they have helped my skin stay spotless through the years. Perfect amount of cleanliness, but not too dry or oily! I also love Jasmine, for Jasmine tea.

  2. Me and my favorite person, my SO.

  3. I collect vintage pyrex. I love pyrex.

  4. These knee highs!

Thank you so much for the contest! :)

Ive got a bunch of little ideas. Fuzzy pants, robes, or shorts like these. Or a nice fuzzy blanket/throw. I love those.

this bath drain will give you an extra 2-3 inches of water in the bath! bath pillows are also a godsend.

If she doesnt already have a phone workout band she needs one. I also seriously recommend fruit infuser water bottles!!

Best of luck.

31 days for Augustus

I don't love or hate August. However, my favorite riddle as a kid had to do with August, so here it is:

There once was a puppy named August.

He liked picking on other animals.

One day, he got in a fight with a lion.

The next day was the first day of September. Why?

Because that was the last day of August.

(I know, as I type this out, I realize how dark this is, but it was my favorite riddle when I was little)

For the prize, I would like:

New PJs for the kiddos:

u/ABKatelyn · 2 pointsr/RAofLittleness

I am right now really wishing that this was in my size D:

Other than that, I'm happy I found this place and hoping to meet some more awesome people!

EDIT: There's this one and this one too! D: I need to figure out how to make my own...

DOUBLE EDIT: I have an idea! I'll order a custom t-shirt with that design on the front then add the ruffles and skirt after! Best idea ever!

u/huskergirl-86 · 3 pointsr/weddingplanning

I know none of them are as gorgeous as the ones you linked, but check out the Amazon options I found:

  • #1
  • #2
  • #3
  • #4
  • #5
  • #6 <-- my favorite
  • #7
  • #8 <-- most similar to the Trisha dress

Please remember that you will need a hoop skirt to make the dresses perfectly poofy!

Also check out your local facebook groups / marketplace / craigslist to look out for a used flower girl dress!

I picked out two completely different ones:

The first one is white and purple with flowers. I love the spring colors. It also comes in pink.

The second one is teal and sequined with bows, if you have a little superstar on your hands :)

I'm looking up accessories right now!
