Well, this turned out longer than I though. Sorry about the wall of text.

Hey man, congrats on enrolling. Once you start going and notice how good you feel it will be hard NOT to go. The hardest part is forming the habit. Also, a lot of people overdue it when they first start and end up extremely sore and in turn - don't go back. So take it easy at first and ease your body into it.

Since I’m bored at work I’m just going to ramble along here about what I use.
For attire I wear Adidas tank tops and Champion basketball shorts – both I got off Amazon.

If you’re not comfortable in a tank top then a normal shirt will do. I just find having sleeves to be annoying when working my upper body – but that’s just preference.

I'd suggest a good pair of cross training shoes (not running shoes). I linked the Reebok crossfit shoes as I definitely recommend them. They are super light, sturdy, and fantastic for working out. I've had the same pair for 6 years and they just won't quit.

I'd also suggest and iPod or other small Mp3 device. Most people use headphones and I must say I can't workout without it. Just walk in, crank up the tunes, and do your thing. Most people do the same and it really helps you focus and tune out all that's going on around you.

I wear gloves, but not everyone does. During heavier lifting sessions my hands get torn up, to prevent it I wear gloves. Not mandatory, but something that may interest you.

Water bottle – make sure you bring a big water bottle. I use this one. But anything will do as long as it’s big enough. Drinking water is extremely important.

Towel, most gyms sell hand towels. It’s good etiquette to use, especially if you sweat a lot.

Gym bag - I use this one. It's small, holds my shoes, workout clothes, etc. and the water bottle I linked above fits perfectly in the mesh compartment. This is obviously optional but I found it extremely beneficial to have.

Lock – I use this one to lock my car keys/phone up in one of the gym lockers when I get there. Not necessary but you will need to carry your keys/phone/etc during your workout.

Routines (routines vary indefinitely) depending on your goals, preferences, etc. I’ll give you my schedule so you at least have an idea, but please know there are virtually endless workouts you can do.

I focus on working my way up the body throughout the week. I generally workout 3 days per week for about an hour and a half. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday are the days I go but again this is totally my schedule. I go Monday and Tuesday because I’m rested from the weekend, break Wendesday to rest, and then finish up Thursday and give my body a rest Friday – Monday. Please keep in mind this is my schedule and yours can be anything you want it to be.

When I get to the gym I do 5-10 minutes on the elliptical, rower, or stairs to warm up and break a sweat. After warming up I stretch out (important to deep stretch after your body is warm, not before it) – this is a full body stretch, not just the body parts I’m working out that day.

After about 10-15mins of stretching I get into my workout. Again, focus on warming up the muscle group before you start to add any type of heavier weight.

I work the following muscle groups on the following days:

Monday – Legs/Core (3-4 exercises per muscle group)

Tuesday – Chest/Back (3-4 exercises per muscle group)

Thursday – Arms/Shoulders (3-4 exercises per muscle group)

After the workout – depending on my current goals, I’ll do some Cardio (usually 10-30 minutes or so). I rotate between the elliptical, bike, stair master, and sauna.

If I can suggest one thing over all else it’s to familiarize yourself with the exercises for each of the main muscle groups and how to do them correctly – emphasis on correctly. You can go to google and type in “Back workout” and you’ll find endless back workouts. Pick out 3-4 exercises for each muscle group, watch some videos on Youtube, and get an idea of how to do it.

To give you a starting point, 3 exercises per muscle group and do 3 sets of 10-15 reps per after your warmup set.
Every day I see people in the gym trying to lift more weight then they can do correctly, and in turn their form is terrible. Bad form is a fast-track to injury. Focus on doing the exercise correctly and then up the weight from there.

One thing to keep in mind is the body will adapt to your routines if you don’t adjust them. There are tons of workouts for each muscle group. Spend some time up front educating yourself about the exercises and build a few different routines. Don’t be afraid to bring a note pad with your routing written down – people do it all the time. It’s actually a good way to keep yourself accountable. You can record the weight you lifted, the date, etc. It’s a good way to see progress.

I’m sure I missed a lot but hopefully this helps. Try not to be overwhelmed. Take it slow and just know the gym is a really positive environment.

Cheers

  1. Water - Lots of it. Bring a water bottle of some sort that you can refill. Be sure to refill it before workshops and be sure to drink.

  2. Backpack - Bring something that you can carry all your papers, handouts and guidebook in. One of those drawstring backpacks is best (IMHO). You can find them pretty cheap at Target/Wal-Mart type stores.

  3. Business cards - You are going to make a lot of new best friends very quickly. Bring business cards. Don't have any? Make some up with your printer and some cardstock.

  4. Go To Plenary - No, it is not the most exciting part of GA, but this is your opportunity to be heard and to make a difference. Listen to what is being discussed, especially if you are a delegate. Also: Read the agenda beforehand! It makes it easier to follow

  5. Bring a snack - Granola bars, Cliff bars, Bananas, whatever. There is a chance you will be running from place to place and may not get an opportunity to eat. Have a back up.

  6. Know your limits - You cannot do it all. It's okay to say to yourself, "I am exhausted! I'm going to skip this one program and get a nap." You can't do it all, don't kick yourself if you want to rest. Your body is telling you to do so for a reason.

  7. Find a place to eat before you get there - Convention center food is fair at best. Google restaurants near the convention center and make plans to hit those for lunch. They're probably cheaper too.

  8. DO NOT MISS: Synergy, Service of the Living Tradition, Opening Celebration and the Ware Lecture.

I don't know if you are in the youth or young adult groups, but they have a lot of separate activities that are great for community building. I suggest trying to attend those (if you are in that demographic). If you have a group that you are with, meet once a day to check in with each other, but do not become clickish. Go out and "press the flesh"! Meet new people!

I recommend journaling every night before bed. It is a great way to settle all the things that have just been put into your head and will give you some concrete things to take back to your congregation. Just take 15 minutes after you brush your teeth.

Bring extra cash. There are a lot of UU knick-knacks you will want, and bring your Standing On The Side of Love t-shirt (if you don't have one, you may want to buy one there for $20 or just bring a yellow shirt)

That's all I got. I'm sure others have better advice for ya!

Looking for some advice on top bag for my bike, when touring. A big issue here is waterproofing. When traveling for potentially months, the contents, namely clothing must remain dry. One of my biggest issues here is that I hate the material and design of a waterproof bag.

I tested this out on one of my favorite brands, I like 5.11 products. So I purchased this. A 110L MOLLE Tactical Bag. Was a really nice bag and was fun for the 2 week trip I used it for. Except for a couple things. It doesn't hold it's shape, and had no dividers inside of it, and it turns out I don't really use 110L, but that's not a big issue. It's nice to have the amount of space as long as it doesn't more around when tied to the back. The worst part, thought, at the end of my 2-week trip, I had to ride through the worst rain storm I've ever ridden in before. This bag can't do it. I'll be returning it, even though I like 5.11 so much.

Okay, so 5.11 doesn't make any other bag that is more waterproof, just smaller sizes. So after a bunch of searching around. I've found some options. First we'll start with the actually waterproof items.

  • Kwik Tek Dry Pak 70L or 110L $45
  • COR Bag 60L $55
  • Firstgear Torrent Bag 70L $90

These ones are fully waterproof, but I hate the design of them, so the options that are left are either get over it, find a water-proof tactical bag, or get a cover for a water-resistant bag.

Trying to find that perfect bad-ass looking water-proof tactical bag, I've found a couple options

  • Tactical Bag 1
  • Tactical Bag 2
  • Tactical Bag 3

On the pro side, the designs of these are absolutely awesome, portable, modular, and have 4.5 stars averaged on them, albeit low amount of ratings, a indication of low purchases.

Unfortunately, if my time as a Amazon enthusiast has taught me anything, these are clearly all the same bag. And it's very unclear who is the manufacturer. The fact that there are multiple listings with no specified manufacturer is very suspicious. And from a more important point, the specifications are different on the different links. One link states that it has a nylon rating of 1000D, one states 900D, and one only states "tear-resistant". More clear signs that this is a bad purchase. If I had to choose any of those three, this one has the 1000D nylon, highest rating and reviews, and includes a waterproof-resistant bag.

Despite all the draw backs, I am drawn to that one, because I love the design, and although it is not waterproof, it does come with a cover designed for it. Which is better than carrying a tarp and cutting it and messing around with it trying to get it fit right, only for it to tear to the wind. On top of that, this beats my current 5.11 110L bag, because this has a shoulder strap and is smaller for portable use. If I'm traveling, I'm not going to be 24/7 on my bike, a lot of walking will be involved and this bag provides some very important positives in that area.

A concern I do have with this, is the durability of the cover. And if that cover will break apart when riding at 80 MPH in the wind. A experience I've had when jerry-rigging a cheap plastic cover on to my 5.11 bag.

Of course, if I purchase the truly water-proof bag, it will not be an issue in rain. But it will look terrible, and there will be no comfortable feature for traveling by foot with this. What are your thoughts on all of this, do you think I should give that bag a try or should I play it safe and get the truly waterproof bags? Do you recommend any other products at the sub $100 price line?

    All advice is appreciated.

EDIT: Also, found this. Which looks more reputable, thoughts on this?

Necessary? No. You can do 'MMA' with no protective gear in the buff. I wouldn't, but you can.

Useful? Sure.

Here's my take on gear:

Grappling gloves: Definitely should have a pair.
Head Guard: Unless you like getting concussions, this is useful.
Ear Guards: I don't own this currently, but it's a useful thing to have if you want to avoid looking like a fighter (cauliflower ear can affect employment similarly to facial tattoos in some situations). You can get cheap wrestling headgear though, no need for special mma earguards.
MMA Shorts: grappling shorts? yeah, you should have some shorts. Do they need to cost $50+ a pair? No. Cheap $20 shorts are fine.
Kneepads:Not necessary, but if your knees are getting busted up, wear some. Again, you can get cheap ones, so it's not a big deal.
Mouthguards: A necessary item. You don't need to spend $100 on a custom fitted one (though people claim those are very comfortable), but you do need to have one. Use it all the time. It's the little accidents while rolling, or the accidental hit when drilling that can cut off your tongue or knock out teeth-not just the big fights. A cheap boil and bite is fine when you're beginning.
Shinguard: Necessary. I don't care if you plan on kicking trees until your shin becomes made of adamantium. This allows you and your partner to spar a few rounds and still be able to walk tomorrow.

Other necessary items:
Compression shorts: Unless you're going with vale tudo style shorts, have something that won't get pulled down even if your shorts do.
Cup: A lot of guys like the muay thai steel ones, I like my nutty buddy, find one that works for you. Some people say to not wear one. If you're done having kids, maybe. Really it won't be useful most of the time. That one time every couple months that it will catch something is well worth wearing it every day.
Sparring gloves: 16oz usually, depending on the school.
Rashguard: I don't care if you're doing gi or no gi, you should have this, IMO. A cheap walmart one works fine though, no need to spend for an MMA one. Just make sure it's heat dispersing not heat retaining.

Personally, I also own some thai pads, focus mits, kick shield, tombstone pad, and I'm planning on buying some mats in the next month or so.

That said, talk to your trainers. Don't buy any gear immediately. Any gym will have loaners of all the basics. Go in there, get your ass kicked for a while, and then figure out what you want to do. A gym may specifically want you to have this or that that's slightly different from the norm.

Edit:

A good bag makes a world of difference. I have a great duffel that has a separate compartment for clothes so they don't get mixed in with my sweaty gear. I love that. It also fits shinguards/headgear/mma gloves/16oz gloves/etc with no problem. http://www.amazon.com/Hatch-Mission-Specific-Size-Black/dp/B000MAXN2U/

Some people prefer backpacks, and my wife uses the Rush 72 for BJJ, I think it could hold most of my gear also. Great bag for traveling as well. http://www.amazon.com/5-11-Rush-72-Back-Pack/dp/B005AG3YQG/

Hodgkin's survivor of almost 11 years here. First, I'm so sorry. It sucks that you're going through this. It really really sucks. I was diagnosed in July of 2005 when I was almost 20 and went through 6 rounds (12 tx) of ABVD chemo. Some advice for the other side:

  1. Cut your hair now. I actually didn't lose all of my hair but I shed a lot and it helped not having giant long clumps fall out. My hair didn't pass that critical thinning till around Christmas so by then I actually needed winter hats and never used the summer ones I got. I had a wig kept on hold at a shop but never needed it and released it later. I usually wore some bandanas Rosie the Riveter style in the summer even though I wasn't bald just to keep my hair contained. I wore a lot of boatnecks (to hide my port and biopsy scars) and plain pants and the outfits worked well.

  2. Outfits - For me, the day of chemo (usually Fridays) I'd wear a button up shirt/v-neck so they could access my chemo port in my chest. Normal jeans. Definitely wore layers. Many chemos are temperature and light sensitive so they keep the infusion rooms cold. I also found out the first time it was sunny on a chemo day that my chemo made me light sensitive so when I walked to the car I thought my skin was burning off. I started wearing a light jacket after that. Day 2-4 post chemo I was typically worthless. I still tried to make it to class on Tuesday and by my Thursday class I was back to normal-ish. I wore the boatneck looks those days, a lot like your #1 pic. The steroids made me gain so much weight so having flexible waistlines were important. I didn't want to be shopping then (I ended up with immuno issues) and online options were more limited in the dark days of the internet so I lived in what I could still fit into or what Old Navy would deliver.

  3. For my bag I brought a commuter/gym bag. The Lands End one would be good! I have a bag now that would have been great then (by Lug). I kept slippers in there for the 2-3 hours of chemo + appointment, my blanket, my light jacket, any books, etc. Music is good since you are sometimes close to people and don't want to intrude. For me, the hospital had magazines but I'd bring a book or puzzle book, watch the TVs in my cube, and some snacks or drinks were always helpful, even if I didn't want them. Avoid red colored drinks since they'll remind you of the chemo you're getting. I had problems with being able to "taste" things going into my port so I sucked on lifesavers to distract me. I was usually too jittery to do much but I tried to distract myself.

  4. Make sure you have some Netflix queued items that you won't care if you fall asleep in (I recommend HGTV shows) and be prepared for steroids to give you insomnia while you're exhausted. Amazon prime would have been amazing to make sure I could get items delivered if I didn't feel I could make it to the store. My eyesight got a little weaker during treatment so I got eye strain really fast so I sometimes listened to music instead (I think I have a permanent Green Day American Idiot earworm). I really recommend some form of puzzle books. I got hit with chemo brain really bad and it helped after chemo to improve my memory, recall and speed, though it took longer than I expected.

Sorry so long but hopefully it helps!
u/chabz5000 · 5 pointsr/bikeboston

if you are going full rain-gear, it would include either making your only bike all-weather compatible (full fenders, etc) with the understanding that it will be clunkier to ride and will deteriorate more quickly (rust, sand, drive train, brakes). if you can swing it, get a beater bike that is specifically set up for rain and keep your nice bike (if your bike is nice) in fair weather condition.

carry a basic toolkit (spanner, hex wrench multi tool, spoke wrench, tire levers) and a spare tube or two. unless you want to carry a small handpump, you could invest in some CO2 cartridges and a small inflator. include some elastics, bungees, and a small roll of rubberized gaffer tape (just tear a strip of a few feet and roll it on itself so you have a little finger of black magic) -- the tape can be used for many things, from lashing something to your frame to layering up and booting a tire puncture. last but not least, buy a box of rubber gloves, and keep a few pairs rolled up in your kit. all of this can fit in a small saddlebag, handlebar bag, or hip pouch.

along with your standard toolkit and flat repair/replacement kit, carry an emergency rain poncho and a pair of rubber boot covers. boot covers are especially nice if you end up getting a pair of shoes that you don't want sprayed with water and sand should you get caught in a downpour or have to ride on sticky/tacky surfaces after a rain.

if there is a chance you are going to be riding at night, get a rear flasher and a good headlight (a powerful LED array with multiple modes & brightnesses). good lights usually have a rechargeable external battery pack -- carry a spare battery pack or at least get a few cheap LED flashers (frog knog or similar) to keep in your toolkit as a backup.

one last thing that i find helpful is keeping a few drawstring backpacks rolled up in my kits, as they can really come in handy if you need to pick up or carry something (or remove some clothing) unexpectedly. when not in use they fold up smaller than a deck of cards. if you have to lock your bike up outside and have a nice saddle, you can tie one of these over it so it's not so obviously nice.

i didn't really answer any if your big questions with specific recommendations, or cover any basic cycling equipment (like riding gloves or bike locks), but these are little tricks or lightbulb discoveries that i've picked up over biking in the city for the past 12 or 13 years. most of the small things are non-essential, but come in very handy and can save a lot of unneeded cleanup and frustration. now i never ride without them.

Many people carry a small collapsible daypack within their larger pack which is an option to hold electronics and valuables while in transit in the way you are suggesting.

As another option you could work on reducing your stuff so it all fits into a smaller pack (20-25L).

I use a 21L pack but my wife and I tend to like buying food, snacks, and drinks to bring back so I've run into the issue of how to do that. On my last trip I brought this 40L packable duffel ($17) which fit easily into my pack. It fit a ton of goodies which we just checked in on the way back. I was pretty happy with how it worked out and it added a lot of optionality for me. Maybe something like that would work for you.

u/constipated_HELP · 6 pointsr/malefashionadvice

I didn't mean colored canvas. Classic, military canvas. I have two huge ones colored like this that I use all the time because I don't spend much time in one place. I've had them for 10 years and my mom had them for several decades before that - they may be WWII surplus from my grandfather but we really don't know. Canvas will be far more resistant to aging than leather.

If you're actually looking for cheap and reliable, I'd recommend searching for something similar. Army surplus perhaps. That being said.... your mention of leather trim gave me an idea. I grew up racing small sailboats and your that reminded me of off-white canvas totes with leather where the handles attached. I'm fairly sure they're a deliberate take-off of sail bags. Some are even made from old sails. (Edit - this, but with leather is essentially what I was thinking of).

Land's End or LL Bean may have something you'd be interested in. Here are some options as well. Do some searches with a combination of "tote," "bag," "sail," "canvas," etc. If you're anywhere newport RI or other seaside towns (Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, etc), check the tourist trap stores - places where rich people on sailboats buy "gear." You're looking for things that would be carried around a yacht club.

Touching on the sailing topic will jack the prices substantially, though. I can remember going to sail shops and getting advice on boat hardware then going to the hardware store to save 90%.

Edit: found one mostly like what I was imagining, though there are some very classy takes on this. Add "regatta" to your search terms.

Edit two/Tl;dr - Sorry for the ridiculously disjointed post. Just click all think links - my bet is there's something you'll like there.

I really lucked out with this one. I was researching bags and I set a budget of $50. It seems like I couldn't find any decent bag under $50 and so I was going to settle for this bag off Amazon: Jetstream 36 inch Hockey Bag. However, when I went to Canadian Tire to pick up practise jerseys and socks I came across this bag which was originally $70 but the tag said it was on sale for $42. Turns out that sale actually expired about 2 weeks ago but since they left the tag on, CT honored the price. Super happy that I got such a sweet bag within my budget.

u/penny_dreadful_mess · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

oops, sorry! This is what I get for clicking off articles and forgetting they have referral links. See below for edited.

So my first thought was the knomo Grosvenor Square but at $180 it's more than a little out of your budget. However, I would look at knomo and baggallini on eBay if you don't mind used. If I remember correctly, baggallini was designed by flight attendants so they are super travel friendly and there is a great selection of them on eBay.

*I know that knomo one is olive and still $60 but I've seen black ones for about 40 before, you just have to watch.

EDIT: I found some more options, though I'm not as sure of the quality.

u/Ryngard · 2 pointsr/DnD

I recommend a nice duffle/gym bag. I had one with a fold down bottom for extra stability and i could put two stacks of books in it (so I'd have all my stuff handy and during the time of 2nd Ed I had box sets for our campaign and miniature cases (made from plastic fishing tackle cases), it was awesome! :)

It really depends on what you need to carry. You could look at a small luggage bag on wheels, that could be excellent.

These are close to what I had. Like $6 each. http://www.tedpella.com/storage-boxes-bags_html/styrene-boxes.htm#139-706

When I used metal minis I got some foam from like Walmart and cut squares to the right size. Worked great!

I have bought both of these and I love them.

Messenger/laptop bag (https://www.amazon.co.uk/S-ZONE-Messenger-Resistance-Traveling-Briefcase/dp/B01IEXH7WS/ref=sr_1_49?s=luggage&ie=UTF8&qid=1522500839&sr=1-49&keywords=szone+leather+bag) (I bought this in Green and it looks great for work).

Large duffel bag/ weekender bag https://www.amazon.co.uk/S-ZONE-Capacity-Adjustable-Detachable-Shoulder/dp/B01HO2DQLQ/ref=sr_1_40?s=luggage&ie=UTF8&qid=1522500818&sr=1-40&keywords=szone+leather+bag (I bought a green one for a friend as a present and he loved his so much that I bought myself one in black. I think the green is also probably the best for this bag).

I first saw stuff posted about S-zone on Primer (https://www.primermagazine.com/2017/spend/the-40-waxed-canvas-and-leather-weekender-duffel-bag). I have seen and bought lots of shitty bags and belts made in Asia but with s-Zone, this is not the case. I have genuinely been really surprised by the quality. I think they are also sold on Amazon.com as well. The leather on all of them feels really solid and looks like it will age nicely (I have bought a duffel from Hershel and all the leather on the handle peeled off after less than a year). If you are suspicious of this give me a message and I can send you a picture of the bags that I bought.

The game is over once all the jewels have been taken/discarded. You do not get your adventurers back, they stay until a dragon is defeated. The reason could be, because some magic cards let you love the jewels from one dragon to another, therefore screwing the other people over.

I love this game and used to bring it out regularly, but had to put it aside for a bit, so it doesn't get overplayed. I always play with the Advanced Rules.

The only problem with the game is trying to distinguish between the gold and silver gems.

The bags are a good idea. Here are some that might work really well, I own some myself, but don't know if they match EVERY color available in the game. It comes with 12 bags (2 of each color), so you might be able to use the extras on another game.

I'm now thinking about purchasing these again for this game. It will come in handy when using the blind thief ability. Thanks for the great idea.

Most boat shops have a gift section (At least in Sweden that is my point of reference), steer away from tacky signs like whiskey time is 12:00 to 11:45 etc.

If he don't have one A handheld weather station works for all boat sizes and are (at least for sailors) worth having, https://silva.se/product/uncategorized/adc-summit/ (example)

As suggested below, winecups out of quality plastic, not something that is always prioritized but increases the quality of life at sea.

Sailors canvas bags (https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00L7SEK8W/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new) not something that is a priority to buy but is awesome because they are good for ropes, clothes, dirty clothes, in short words there is a lot of ways to use them.

A water tight wrist watch, with background light of some sort.

A head torch with white and red light for maintenance and night sailing. (Even if one have one, one can have one more)

Nice tools, socket wrenches, allen keys are used everywhere, a good quality spanner is also golden.

I purchased a few of these (not the exact ones) a couple years ago! I made sure to get a bright color that would be unique and easily recognizable when mixed in with a bunch of other runner's bags. They were cheap and I am not worried about losing them. I also make sure to line the inside of the drawstring bags with a plastic grocery bag if the weather is rainy just to make sure my supplies stay dry.

Buy. It's easily me and my girlfriend favorite game. Once you're familiar with the game set up and break down plus a game is like 30-40 minutes. It's great. Also I highly recommend bags! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XDBSEW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I can't recommend them enough. It makes setting up and putting away the game so much faster. The artwork kind of sucks but think of it that you're getting an amazing game for half the price as you'd get for the same game with fancier artwork.

This is the bag here. It fits 2 changes of clothes, my laptop, snacks, water bottle and has a side pocket good for shoes or separating shoes or dirty clothes and 4 netting pockets on the outside as well. Fits perfectly under the seat and allows me to grab anything without having to pull it out. Been using mine for 6 years now and love it

Two options I've used here:
For games I know I like, I either design or use others designs for Artscow bags. They have both drawstring and zip canvas ones (the latter best for game transportation)
https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/190164/direct-links-artscowcowcow-draw-bag-designs/page/1?
Plenty of promo codes exist, if you're trouble finding one I'm happy to generate one - PM me. The best deal here is 10 bags for $20 shipped. There's also a Geeklist with completed bags which should also give you a feel for the size of them.

For games which either require a ton of bags (Castles of Burgundy) or just to have extras, I bought a set of these:
Dozen Bright Color Canvas Drawstring Bags https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004XDBSEW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_W3xzzbMGP2TJX

I think they're a little narrower than my husband likes for drawing tiles but they're not too bad. I use 4 or 5 of them in CoB.

Thank you! Looking into packable day packs, I found some duffle bags (example). This seems to be a pretty good solution.

u/kuzai123 · 1 pointr/boardgames

After seeing your comment, I searched around on BGG which led me to these - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XDBSEW

They're not coming in until next week, but I hope they fit well!

I wouldn't right out say that someone would regret not buying physical things on trips. They might enjoy their trips differently.

I second the first idea to pack an extra collapsable bag if you're ok with flying home with two. Amazon has a few cheaper ones like this: https://www.amazon.com/Foldable-Travel-Duffel-Luggage-Resistant/dp/B019HIP8X4

If you're also thinking of buying souvenirs for friends, I would suggest skipping the little trinkets and sending them a postcard from wherever you are, which can be more personal.

u/atllauren · 3 pointsr/travel

Yes! It's very nice when walking around the airport. I used to always carry a backpack, but having a bag on my suitcase is so much more handy for getting things out of my bag.

I have this bag from Amazon, and it's surprisingly well made for only being $40. My only complaint with it is that I wish the handles were attached with a bracket or something so they would lie flat against the bag when not in use. The same company also has this bag which has the kind of handles I want and looks bigger. I might have to get that one at some point.

I really like my Everest, which I heard about from Wirecutter. It's got enough pockets, easy to clean, and a separate compartment for my smelly shoes. $25.00

I bring a bag like this on every trip I take, just in case:

https://www.amazon.com/Foldable-Travel-Duffel-Luggage-Resistant/dp/B019HIP8X4

Easy to pack, and worth it whether you use it or not.

Their workout bag is one of the best. Had it for four years without any problems.

The original box works fine: Put animal tiles, knowledge tiles, goods, buildings, and the center black tiles each in their own smaller portion of the insert. Leave them there for gameplay - when pulling new tiles just grab out of there without looking like you're pulling out of a cup. Everything else can get dumped in the big section since none of that needs to be randomized.

But I bought a set of novelty bags on amazon after a few games of that, and moved my copy of Agricola out of bags and into this box (which, incidentally, is superior to plano since it has rounded bottoms for each compartment). Now the 5 types of tiles that need to be randomized in Castles each have their own cloth bag, and workers, silverlings, castles/mines/boats, and everything else have their own plastic bag respectively.

Not OP, but I bought these and I'm returning them. They were very poorly stitched. The yellow one was falling apart the second I opened the packaging. If you have any sewing skill, drawstring bags are not that difficult to make. I've made one for Carcassonne tiles and am in the process of making another for Alhambra. Pretty decent tutorial here.

I'm 6' 1'' and just recently went to this bag: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OD5K6DE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I did have a roller bag, and I love my new carry bag in comparison, it's cheap, has a couple side pockets, and it's actually lighter than my roller bag was.

u/Conesus_Kid · 2 pointsr/boardgames

These are the ones I got for Bora Bora and CoB. The colors are perfect! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XDBSEW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/mjxii · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I have one of these folded up in the inside pocket of my jacket for just such an occasion. You guys might want to invest in one!

u/Mlcknight06 · 1 pointr/boardgames

Amazon bags. They work fine but aren’t the same colors as CoB.

u/RynoKenny · 2 pointsr/Boardgamedeals

On recommendation, I picked these bags up with the purchase as well

I didn't know until today that there were expansions

I'll check them out eventually, I've been making a rule that I need to milk the base game to almost boredom before purchasing expansions, no matter how good they are. Saves money on expansions for games I don't even really like and increases longevity of the game.
