It's my birthday today and went on a purchasing splurge!

New Purchases:

Refillable Atomizer Bottles - Came in 6 pieces and a little soft bag! Originally I was gonna use this for my colognes and perfumes; easily fits in pockets so I can spray on the go (also bonus point quick air freshener for bathrooms cuz some men's rooms be rank af.....); but then I was on the hunt for misters for my toners and realized I could use these perfectly for them! It's color-coded too so I don't mistake one of my scents for a toner!

-I filled the pink one with Kikumasamune High Moist Lotion
-the red one with Thayer's Witch Hazel Toner w/ Rose
-the blue one with Secret Key Milk (new)
-and the gold one with Secret Key Aloe (new)
The secret key ones are new purchases im trying out B) giving them about 2 weeks trial runs each before I rotate them in my routine!

Benton Snail Bee Essence - I enjoyed using the sheet masks once a week beforehand, and figured I'll up it to a more frequent usage so I went ahead and got the essence bottle! \o/ Dipped my toes with sheet masks first cuz I wasn't too sure about the bee venom ingredient (especially considering I get a bad reaction from stings) but it's gentler than I thought and no allergic reaction!

Etude House Sunprise Airy Finish SPF 50+ PA+++ - Received this 2 days ago! Previously I used Cerave AM and disliked the pilling and white cast on just a beige skintone! This is my first time using a sunmilk and the consistency is really nice! Goes on smoothly and can layer easily, with no whitecast after absorbing! If I wanted to, I could layer a moisturizer underneath without worrying about it pilling as well! Since I'm oily enough I'm not as concerned with it's lack of moisturizing and I find just toning layers is enough for me underneath! Great for oil control so far!

Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen Tinted Face SPF 50 - Got this about a week ago! Since summer is around the corner, and the etude house isn't a waterproof sunscreen, I went with this that I bought at ulta! This matched my skintone pretty well so there was pretty much no whitecast. If it's a really sweaty day or I'm gonna be somewhere where there happens to be water/rain, this waterproof sunscreen was perfect! (and reef-safe for ocean trips)

Rohto Melano CC - On the way in the mail but excited to try this out since I was looking for a vitamin C, but wanted to start out gently!

Kao Success Scalp Washing Brush (Normal Type) - Sort of skincare since it has to do with the scalp, this is also on it's way on the mail. I'm a fan of scalp brushes since my hair is pretty thick (and also dandruff woes). The tips of it has little bumps on them and there's 3 types of tips on a single brush for that jam packed scalp action, so gonna give it a whirl and see how different it is from the standard silicone scalp brush!

-----------------------------------------------------

Repurchase:

Tony Moly Chok Chok Green Tea Watery Cream - I realized using stridex as my gentle BHA exfoliator and a Cerave SA cream on top of that meant I technically had 2 BHAs in a night routine, so I'm returning back to chok chok! Good point to change tbh since the cream is too heavy for summer. The tony moly one is pretty light and had good oil control!

Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Pads - Bringing back AHAs into my life for my PIH; I'm gonna rotate them with my BHAs. I prefer low %s so the 2.8% was perfect!

I wash every 4-5 days with Paul Mitchell Shampoo Two or Devacurl build up buster. Most of the time I use this just by my roots and use a deva curl low/no poo on the rest of my hair. If it's sooner than 4-5 days but I need a wash, I'll use a CGM approved non-sulfate shampoo everywhere. I over clarify for the CGM but my fine, thick, low prosperity hair and scalp needs it. I get lots of build up.

For conditioner, I mix a CGM approved conditioner (it varies but I've had the best luck with Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Conditioner) with a good amount of Neutral Protein Filler. I glob it on, flip upside, squish to condish, lots of water, flip back, and leave it in as a deep treatment for as long as possible. My hair LOVES proteins and get mushy without it or if I over-condition. Wide tooth comb after letting it sit for a bit.

I rinse, then use a tiny bit of Kinky Curly Knot Today while I’m still in the shower. To apply, I flip upside and scrunch in- don’t rinse. I find it's a really light leave in and doesn't cause a lot of build up. Hair still soaking wet, I scrunch a bit of deva curl styling cream, then prayer hand Kinky Curly Custard, plop for a bit, air dry the rest.

I also use one of these shampoo brushes when rinsing the shampoo and conditioner and it has made a huge difference in the health of my scalp and build up by my roots. I don’t even need prescription dandruff shampoo anymore!

To sleep: flip upside down, put it up in a high bun.

To revive: I spray water mixed with Neutral protein filler and kinky curly knot today all over. Then wet my hand and scrunch the water in kind of. If it's extra frizzy, sometimes I'll put a tiny bit of a CGM approved cream (like Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothi) in my hands and add water and scrunch that in too. I did this yesterday on day 2, but not today on day 3. I've learned with my hair less is more, unless it's protein and water.

I have similar hair goals. I have dry scalp (psoriasis) and wavy fine hair.
Here are a few items I recently have added to my hair routine that have been successful:

  • A shampoo brush - it helps my dry scalp. I have seen them on Yes Style and Amazon.
  • Shampoo only the hair close to my scalp and condition everything else.
  • A wet hair brush. I use it in wet and dry hair. It looks like [this](Tangle Teezer The Original, Wet or Dry Detangling Hairbrush for All Hair Types - Plum Delicious https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008HJRLXK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Xlj1Ab4PW6KS4). I have some from Yes Style that have handles.
  • Use a hair serum for dry scalp. I currently use this. There are several to choose from and you can find them everywhere. Sephora has some non AB ones that look nice with charcoal in them.
  • Dirty Hair styles so much easier, and dry shampoo adds volume. The oils in dirty hair help hide split ends and baby hairs, by locking fly always down. There are so many different types of dry shampoos, like spray, powder, and wipes. You can find them easily, too. I currently use a powder dry shampoo that I bought on Etsy. I get more volume from the powder version.
    I hope that helps!

Yep! A beard club can be a lot of fun and most of them run events to benefit a charity of their choosing, generally something local.

For balms you can easily get your hands on check out this list in no particular order just off the top of my head
Mountain Man Oils
Honest Amish
Beardilizer

There are countless of companies making these products. A search on amazon for beard balm will bring up a ton of options for you as well. The above are just a few that I have tried over the years and they were memorable enough to stick with me, obviously.

For a brush I have been using this simple Diane D8114

For a comb I use this Cricket Ultra Smooth Conditioning Rake

Ultimately it is up to you and what you prefer. I prefer a bit of a firmer balm.

For routine I condition every shower and wash 2-3 times a week. After the shower I towel dry and go about my business allowing my beard to dry naturally if I can (blow dry on cold days when you are in a rush if necessary).
Once dry I put in balm and let that soak in for a few minutes then I will add oil and start combing with the Cricket comb.
Once I am all combed up I have at it with the brush. Use it with a bit of a soft hand you don't want to smash your beard into your face.
At night I will do just balm or oil depending on how dry it is from the day and use the brush. At night I go a bit deeper with the brush to get to the skin.

Hope this helps!

u/Amonette2012 · 46 pointsr/mildlyinfuriating

I use three different tools - a standard plastic comb, which is good for combing out the long haired one and giving them a quick tidy up if they look a bit dusty, this one for general hair reduction and scratchies on both of them, and I just got this one which is amazing for taking out hair they're going to shed soon. I know it says it's for dogs, but they use it at my local grooming place and it just takes out clouds of excess fur. I tend to use the wire brush most, the plastic comb once a day or so for general tidying up and back scratchies, and I just use the major hair removal one when I can see they've got some hair to shed, maybe once a week or so (still testing it out).

Doing it in the bathroom is good because it's so much easier to clean up, and if you do it every day there's little enough coming off that you can just leave it on the wire brush for next time and throw any stray tufts in the trash. It's just like brushing your hair I guess - if you brush it properly every day you don't shed hair all over everything.

Thinking about it, this also works on long-haired roommates and partners, but you'd need a different bush and an interesting relationship...

Edit: Almost forgot to pay my cat tax!!

u/2Cuil4School · 4 pointsr/AskReddit

I possess extremely long, extremely thick, extremely coarse, extremely curly hair. Think somewhere between Claudio Sanchez of Coheed & Cambria and the fat guy from Lost except halfway down by back.

Every day, I shower. When I do so, I wet my hair then rub it down with a cedarwood/rosemary shampoo bar (solid-form shampoo composed mostly of saponified shea butter and jojoba oil without any natural-oil-stripping sulfates) and lather it up. I let it sit for awhile, then rinse. After that, I apply a thick coat of dandruff-defense conditioner (liquid form) and let that stand while I wash my body (with a fancy loofa and a really nice bar of cold-pressed, natural soap called "Desert Sands"). I rinse the conditioner out, wring most of the water out of my hair, and then step out of the tub.

I apply a mist of leave-in spray condtioner and let it stand while I shave (using a variety of natural shaving soaps and/or creams with a badger hair brush, a German safety razor, and a number of facial care products including an alum block, witch hazel splash, and moisturizer) and brush my teeth. I finally run a large brush (with scalp-protecting beads on the bristles and a malleable backing to allow it to shape itself to the contours of my head as I brush) through my hair until there are no more knots or tuggy spots..

On work days, I'll throw on my shirt, pull my hair back, then brush it back into a ponytail that I'll hold up with a hairtie. Otherwise I let it airdry into a gloriously fluffy, unbelievably soft, and delicious-smelling mane that encircles my entire head and neck and draws the eye of every woman I pass.

What else would we use indeed!

u/Anenome5 · 2 pointsr/malehairadvice

Super Light works for me, but I wouldn't call my hair very thick.

I also have the regular Murray's but prefer the light. Regular Murray's can be used the same way. If that doesn't work, the stronger version is liquid beeswax, or the straight beeswax. These things are cheap and they last forever. Just a tiny dollop is enough.

As for boar's hair brush I've got one a lot like this, including the nylon reinforcement.

Boar's hair brushes are too forgiving to straighten-out freshly toweled damp hair, so get it straight with the strong coarse brush, something like this, then finish with boar's hair.

For a rougher look I sometimes go back over some of it with the coarse brush after the boar's hair, puts fingerlike ruffles back in.

If I don't use the boar's hair to straighten, my hair has a tendency to form into strangs and curl back up. The boar's hair is just fantastic in making all the hairs touch each other equally and no separate, thus keeping them straight.

Don't even need to bother with a hair dryer, and iron-straightening is completely unnecessary (unless you have some seriously wiry hair).

u/krymson · 3 pointsr/climbing

get yourself one of these if you can:
http://www.amazon.com/LAPIS-LIB611090-Lapis-Boars-Brush/dp/B001OPJJPW

I've tried different brushes but the boars hair on the lapis brush works a treat. or if you have another boars hair brush it may work as well. I find it picks up chalk and fine particles much better than nylon and gets stuff out of the texture of grips better.

TO answer your quesiton though, just use a soft or moderate toothbrush -- they are relatively soft and wont harm the hold.

u/Untimely_TARDIS · 1 pointr/NoPoo

Maybe you can ask her to buy the apple cider vinegar for consumption. ACV tastes great on cucumbers with a bit of salt or on tomatoes, it is also used in making your own italian dressing.

I bought some trial sized shampoo bottles from the dollar store and I put a small amount of vinegar in it and then fill the rest with hot water. I tried pre-mixing the stuff but it was waaaaay too cold when I poured it on my head.

One of the first things I bought when going the no poo route was to buy this shower brush I feel like it really is scrubbing my scalp really well and is great at detangling wet hair. First i scrub it in a circular motion in a small area for a bit then comb my hair back out, then onto another section.

I'll do the scrubbing first with just water or the baking soda and water mix, and I just bought castille soap so now I am trying that. After rinsing I pour the ACV on my head and do the same scrubbing on brushing to make sure all my hair gets soaked. Your hair only smells like vinegar while it is wet but it is not too strong and when it dries you can't smell the vinegar at all.

u/Nice_eWRXtion · 4 pointsr/FierceFlow

Your hair is at its weakest and most vulnerable when it is wet so combing or brushing your hair in the shower or right after is not good. Use your fingers to comb your hair when it is wet.

There really is no way to stimulate hair growth by combing your hair a certain way, but using a boar brush is the best and healthiest way to brush your hair. This is the brush I've been using for the past year and it has held up perfectly and my hair is ridiculously healthy. GranNaturals Boar Bristle Paddle Hair Brush https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R1TAN7I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_elBFybAXW5SZX

u/coffeeczar · 2 pointsr/HaircareScience

For the brush, I think it depends on the type of hair you have. I have very fine hair and I only brush with a comb when my hair is wet. I use a tangle teaser: http://www.amazon.com/Tangle-Teezer-NO-PU-011012-Brush-purple/dp/B008HJRLXK/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1462815523&sr=1-1&keywords=tangle+teaser

I also like a boar bristle brushes. Here's the one I have: http://www.sephora.com/gloss-dual-boar-paddle-brush-P385592?skuId=1583897&icid2=search_search_p385592_image

This is google search result for best brush for fine hair: "To be extra kind to delicate hair, look for a brush with especially soft natural bristles set in a rubber cushion, which makes bristles more flexible in the hair and gentler on the scalp". You can usually find good brushes like this at hair salons but some can be very pricey!

u/Reddit_PornoMachine · 2 pointsr/malegrooming

Get a fade and twist your hair. You can get a twisty sponge thing on amazon for like $5 so you can twist the top of your hair. Trust me it will look dope. I used to rock a bald head for years till recently when I decided to grow out my hair. My hair texture is like yours and twisting makes it look so much neater.

Happy birthday! 🎂🎉🍧

Gift day.

Thanks.

u/CosmonautJizzRocket · 2 pointsr/headphones

First off, something like this headset would probably help quite a bit. It's pretty expensive, but comfort always comes first when gaming in my opinion.

So i have pretty dry skin, and in turn have a very dry scalp as well. I can recommend trying some sort of conditioner with tea tree oil in it, as well as something Like This to use while the conditioner is in your hair. It will help with dead skin collecting/dandruff.

Also another thing, maybe try not washing your hair every day. Some people just have naturally dry skin and washing it every day can make that worse. Otherwise, You may just have to switch to earbuds if it becomes a big problem.

u/-Zoomacroom- · 3 pointsr/SeattleWA

This is what I bought years ago and still use it to this day, doesn't seem to have lost/bent any bristles. I have a 3 year beard. It works very well, has a good feel in the hand.

I think this is the sandalwood comb I bought too. Doesn't have a curvy/branded handle.

u/ThePogonophiliac · 8 pointsr/casualiama

High in potential, though it would look really good with more grooming.

I keep a pocket brush with me when I go out with one of my beards to help when it gets out of shape. Something like this

This seems to be only concept art sadly.

There are a few brushes with different solutions to cleaning hair though:

$15 - Retractable Brush:
https://www.amazon.com/Self-Cleaning-Hair-Brush-Retractable/dp/B016WKK1H8

$11 - Disassemblable Brush:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00197623M

As for the concept art, it is a design by Juhyun Lee. It is called "Easy Comb".

i get gnarly knots so im very careful about taking care of my hair. usually i have french braids or keep it tucked into my hat, plus a small bamboo brush and a coghlans mirror for every morning and night. i never use shampoo anyways so i dont worry about it.

hairbrush is 1 oz not cut down

mirror is .5 oz and can be trimmed

We use a Mini Brush from The Body Shop and have been very happy with it (size, weight, cost, etc.).

We considered a lot of different types like foldable, pop-pop, etc., but ultimately picked this one because we felt it would hold up well longterm.

u/s3rvant · 2 pointsr/beards

Agree with DuckCommand. That said, I've much enjoyed my brush by Bass Brushes.

u/gooberfaced · 4 pointsr/femalehairadvice

It makes it 100 times easier and they are not expensive- I'm really liking this one.

u/Jalega23 · 3 pointsr/beards

The brush linked has soft boar hair which is good if you have thin, less tangly hair. If your beard is thicker or tangled, you'll want firm bristles like this one from the same brand http://www.amazon.com/Bass-Brushes-Deluxe-Oval-Bristles/dp/B00898E4SO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420600846&sr=8-1&keywords=bass+brush+bristle+firm

u/aa2244 · 129 pointsr/INEEEEDIT

https://www.amazon.com/Self-Cleaning-Hair-Brush-Retractable/dp/B016WKK1H8?th=1 found this thing, but it's debatable how long the mechanism could last, and it seems easy for hair to get inside it. Similar concept not the same.

u/Rexingtonboss · 2 pointsr/beards

When my beard is still damp or towel-dry is when I apply the oil. Keep in mind, a little goes a long way! I have a 16 month beard and I need about a quarter-sized amount for the whole thing.

You also have to be careful with the oil when using the hair dryer. You don’t want to fry your beard :)

I only use oils about 2-3 times per week, and I don’t use butters or balms because they tend to get flaky and look like dandruff if I scratch my chin.

The round brush I use has a center post with about a 1.5” diameter. This one is similar and can be purchased in a couple different sizes, but this is just to give you an idea: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001ESJ0BC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PcE-Ab221VGDQ

Does this work? I definitely think it helps with definition more than anything else!

I have seen the Tangle Teezer mentioned a couple times. How does it work, as opposed to a brush with this sort of bristle?

I'm afraid that the other might make my hair static-y. I have tried that type before and I ended up looking like the beginning stages of becoming Frankenstein's Bride, especially in winter.

I was just considering trying out coconut oil actually. I've already been using it for other things; I've just been reading in several threads about using CO for hair too.

The tea tree secret spot patch came with my black sugar mask when I ordered from amazon (link). Has anyone tried it/know how well it works?

Yeah, maybe not that one, then. :-o

It's BOAR'S hair that you want. This is the one that I have:

I've used innisfree's mint scaler before. I didn't especially notice a difference.

However one thing you must get is a shampoo brush. That actually does make a huge difference, your fingers will never be as good at massaging all the dead skin off. I recommend using a silicone one instead of a harsh plastic which might just tear the delicate skin.

I was recommended KAO success brush over 6 years ago and I still use it today. It's got different bristle shapes and the silicone is hard enough to be effective but won't scratch you. There's also a sensitive version that's lighter blue that's a more squishy silicone if your scalp needs it.

>I have had the same Bass brush for the past 10 years.

Me, too! Only in my case, it's 15. Specifically, this brush. No thin plugs, either. I was just going to post about it in BIFL! Lol.

So my girlfriend just got a brand new Mason Pearson hairbrush, her mother bought it for her simply because the old one was "too dirty". The original brush was given to her by her grandmother long ago, and has been in use for at least 20+ years.

This is the specific brush on Amazon but a quick search will show you the various shapes/sizes of the brush.

If you have a bit of time, you might want to try Amazon. This boar hair beard brush only $10 and they usually go for about $30 in stores:

Get a cheap soft palm brush on amazon. If your hair isn't really long, you can rub it through your hair to massage your scalp. It'll bring up all the flakes off your scalp into your hair, and then just keep running it though your hair for a few minutes to get the flakes out.

You will have to do this every day if you want to completely remove it, but going one day without isn't too bad.

Personally I use a detangling brush when I wash my hair because it washes my hair and takes off all off the flakes when I flare up. When my hair is dry I use a wide tooth comb though or a regular brush.

Here’s a detangler similar to mine:

You might also consider a scalp massager?

I ordered this one, since it was well reviewed, and I got two, but I will look into the one you recommended once I inevitably lose mine.

Honestly, I got a shampoo brush for myself and it came in a two pack so I use the spare on my pup. It’s like soft silicone and the bristles don’t irritate her to the point where she wiggles away from brushing. I’ve used the furminator & similar metal dog fur brushes but she always tries to grab them from my hand and run off to destroy them.

Also- I try to brush a few times a week. It’s never as often as it should be, but the change of seasons I double my brushing schedule and try to get her groomed (we took the shiba i had as a kid to this same place so i trust her) monthly vs bathing her on my own schedule bc she’s a hot mess in the bathtub

Here’s the link to the brush I mentioned - Shampoo Brush

Which version of the tangle teaser do you guys use? I see one with a handle and one without?
