Edit: I'm open to having it be fairly white honestly.. things such as a black / white painting over the bed and a white couch in front of the bed. Hey there! I actually purchased this desk and if you have the room for it, I highly recommend. I think in one of your previous comments on this thread you talked about "why have a flimsy desk when you have such dedicated hardware". I couldn't agree more, and that's why I made the same investment in a sturdy desk. I think for the price I paid it has recouped it's investment many times over and I will not need another one for a long, long time.


I picked up the BUSH Furniture L shape desk off Amazon for around $235. Personally, I think it was a solid investment as I've had it for close to 8months and couldn't be happier with the comfort for work, personal projects, or gaming. It has given me tons of room for my Laptops (work and personal), phone holder, external monitor, paperwork products, Bose Companion 5 speakers/sub, pens, lamps, and desktop (paper) calendar. Best part is the USB outlet for four devices plus the hole for cable management. Highly recommend also a laptop fan/lift piece to maximize cooling efficiency as well (of course, if your laptop is your primary device). It has tons of legroom to store anything underneath as well and swivel unencumbered. The draws and cabinet space are perfect for my uses, and the mechanical pieces seem great quaity for the price I paid.

I'm currently redesigning the cable management, which is how I was brought to this sub and saw your post. I think your head is in the right place on making the investment on a solid desk. Best part is that you can take this baby apart if you ever consider moving! It did not take me long at all to put together and frankly I prefer it over my desk at work.

IT WILL WORK, it will be tight though. I had two 24" 1080p monitors, propped up horizontally on a big thing of wood at IKEA. I had it cut with a miter saw prior to driving to Clemson. The repurposed shelf sat across the lip of the desk in Byrnes, but I'm sure you could make it work in Lever if you want.

My roommate also had a small desk he put next to him for his laptop (he had a single 27" monitor + desktop), and because I didn't have an extra desk, it was fine.

For reference, I was in a normal outside room in Byrnes. I fit in a 2.1 speaker set in as well. Here's a picture, ignore the mess. I have my desktop on a thing of plywood on the carpet so the fans won't choke. Proper cable management and a good surge protector is recommended. Edit: It was a 22" 1680x1050 monitor and a 24" 1920x1080 monitor, but it should work with 2 24" 1080p monitors.

Edit 2: I didn't have height-adjustable monitors, but I guess it could be done with them.

Well it depends, do you just want a good starter desk or something you can use for a good length of time without feeling like you have to get another one?Personally I have a rather small desk I thought I would like but have come to realise leaves me wishing for more space for my mouse, keyboard and assorted desk decorations (a few figures mainly). A few months ago I was looking for the cheapest desk with the most amount of real estate to fit my (ultra wide 29") x3 and I found this 72x36 desk for 200 bucks

I am very happy with it so far. It comes in a variety of sizes but I love the largest one I have because it is very deep and the triple ultra monitors don't stick out of the desk. It also has optional future attachments, like the side desk attachment and drawer pieces if you have the extra cash

I bought a used desk from a local free and for sale. It’s a big L shaped desk. Super sturdy, has plenty of drawer and storage space, and looks really nice. I paid $70 for it and a nice leather rolling chair. You can always hope you can find classified ad gold.

Don’t buy things new unless you absolutely have to

I personally look for a desk to hold two 27 inch monitors and a long mouse pad. I don’t really like the keyboard trays cause I move my hand around with my mouse and wouldn’t want it to be on a different level than my keyboard (if that makes sense).

I like a basic desk. No shelves/storage stuff. I have tried those before and it was a mess. One thing I invested in so I wouldn’t have my desk holding my PC was a PC caddy. Cost around $10. Incredibly helpful so you have maximum desk space. I got mine off Amazon. Also I sit on my legs A LOT and personally hate sitting “normal” when gaming. So I got a little foot hammock so I can have my feet off the ground and stretched out and comfortable.

Get a table like this with a folding leaf. Those sidefacing drawers would be super useful. It might be easier to build something like this yourself for your measurements than ready made. But it would give you a prep counter and an eating space that you can fold away.


Here's another style you can buy premade on amazon Maybe use the filefolders for placemats/napkins, and the cubbies for spice or cutlery storage.


Ikea is definitely the standby when it comes random small but efficient wall organizers. I noticed they had a wall mounted dish drying rack. (Fintorp)

I've been using L shaped desks for a few years and like them. My mouse arm sits on the part of the table to my right so my entire arm is on a flat surface. The keyboard it the only tricky part, but is perfectly fine if there is a keyboard shelf directly under the front of the desk.

If you look at the Office Depot Black Friday ad where the desks are here there is a nice looking L-shaped desk that comes in several colors. Personally I like the gray and it is on sale for just over $200 for both the desk and hutch.

Not my favorite but something a bit different for $270, Techni Mobili L-Shaped Tempered Glass Computer Desk, Graphite which I can not link for some reason.

I kinda like this black and white and it has a lot more storage then option 2 but it is $565.

This Wayfair desk keeps all the storage on one side and the whole other side clear for you, which looks comfy.

Another site I really like is Joss and Main. I didn't see anything good unless you want to put two desks together but they always get new stuff.

This desk is relatively cheap, very stable, very spacious, and incredibly simple to put together. You can easily fit both monitors on there and you can fit your tower on it if necessary, although I bought a case caddy for about twenty bucks to keep my tower on the floor.

You sure you can't do a desk? I don't know if anything on your lap is going to be great for long sessions.

I was certain I didn't have enough space for a desk in my old tiny apartment until I got this one (and threw out the media rack and adjustable shelf), which is fairly small. At $50 you might be able to get a basic desk chair to go with it while keeping it around $100 total, though most are a little more.

How do you like that monitor stand?

I've never done a monitor mount before and C-clamp style seems much easier than drilling a hole for a grommet mount solution. I have a similar sort of desk as you except mine has a 0.5 inch overhang of the desktop relative to the horizontal frame bar (looks like yours is flush or very nearly so). Do you think a 0.5 inch overhang would pose problems with the C-clamp? The vertical distance from the top of the desktop to the bottom of the frame bar is 3 inches and the frame bar is about 1 inch thick.

Its only $90 and Comes with shelves like requested. Now the size im not too sure about, you’d have to check that yourself. I actually purchased this a while back and its been holding up pretty well for me. Would recommend it.

I have a filing cabinet I really like, however it is just barely over the clearance height to fit under the desk I currently have. I’m wondering if I can raise it somehow by something like ⅝ inch so it can fit under. The thing is, my desk doesn’t have legs, it’s one of those desks with a metal frame and the entire rectangles on the left right side act as the “legs”. Photos on Amazon:

There are some risers out there where I can still fit it in, but I don’t like how they add big round things to the corners of my desk in a room that has very clean lines, and also I’m worried about the unsupported weight in the middle of the metal bar that would otherwise be touching the floor. I’m wondering if there is some kind of rubber anti-slip padding that isn’t sold in a pack for a standard four-leg desk, but as a sheet that I can cut, especially if they’re black?That way I can cut it exactly to size the bottom bars on both sides and just line both the bars with an adhesive, make it basically invisible, and then fit my filing cabinet under it. there's enough of a gap in the back for monitor mounting and the cable routing holes are potentially useless unless you have your pc under the desk but might have use if running a cable from pc on top of desk, under the desk through hole and out otherside to like a speaker or something.

Took me forever to find what I wanted, which was just a basic, sturdy, and large desk for a reasonable price. This desk fits all of those things. It's very heavy, and has lots of leg room to stretch when sitting for a while. And for $200, it has been a great purchase for me anyway.

With my home setup, I have this desk.

Where the tower is supposed to go, I have some plastic bin drawers and the NFB12.1 sits on top so it's right above the keyboard tray. I connect my D2000s and run the length back towards the back of the desk and use binder clips to guide the cable and up my monitor stand where the holder is. Everything is tucked nice and neat, cable never gets in the way. It's a hassle to disconnect/undo but they never leave my desk so it's not a problem for me. I use my HI2050 when I want to move around.

I got a cheap one off of Amazon for $90, and I would recommend paying a little more for something sturdier, or a used one locally. Sometimes other L desks go on sale for like 10 to 20 more dollars.

Agreed about the shoved against a wall/corner part. The desk is not big, but it is big enough for what I need. As posted earlier, I do have some ideas for designs for a slightly bigger and better mobile desk. Just wanted to go with this one for a starter cause I needed something now.

My X34 is sitting on this desk. It's very solid and easy to assemble, if you can manage to drag the 120lb box where you need it. Prices on Amazon change frequently for these desks, I got mine for $180 a couple months ago.

I slept on one of these for a while and found it comfortable. When it's folded up, it's not quite firm enough to sit on but you can lounge on, back against the wall, or use it as a footrest with a chair.

As far as a desk, have you looked at something like this? I have no idea about the quality of that (this particular one looks kinda cheap in my opinion) and depending how handy you are, you might be able to make that yourself as well.

I'm weird and enjoy looking up new space saving, multi-function furniture. I just found this fold out desk on Amazon that might work well for you.

Only problem I had with it is I thought it had more space in the back to house cables and mount a monitor stand. It is more or less flush, when I ordered it I thought it had more of a lip in the back. But it's nice and if I really want to mount the monitor I can just custom cut a lip spot in the back.

Was looking for something to store polish and ended up stumbling across murphy desks. I have not. The PC is quite far away, on the left hand side of my desk. The hub acts not only as more USB slots that I normally wouldn't have, but also as a way to bridge the distance between the mouse and PC. I think the cord on the mouse may be long enough to do so though, so maybe I'll try that.

Won't win any quality awards but for the price hard to beat. Comes in light brown or black. Looks to be almost identical to the Tribesigns desk at Amazon going for $135.99 + tax.

If you don't mind putting one together yourself I recommend this one. Took me about 40 min with just a multi tool. I have a 27" and a 24" vesa mounted on the small side and a 55" TV on the big side and i couldn't be happier with it.
