I personally love elbow patches-I associate them more with knit sweaters and tweed blazers, usually in tan/brown leather, but they can also look killer in say, black leather on a gray sweater.

I have had very little luck finding tops that already have them in stores, and when they do, the elbow patch is not where my elbow is which is awkward looking.

But I still love it when it is done right. And you can bring these patches to a tailor and have them sew them on at the correct location!

Edit: Also, these are an option? Not sure who these are marketed to...but hilarious.

Oh girl, I feel you! Anything that pills (wool, some synthetic fabrics) is out, as is anything that gets staticky. Personally, I tend to go for variations in the key of cotton: high-quality denim (I love Madewell's black skinny jeans for this) or cotton twill e.g. chinos tend to hold up the best.

You can also add some preemptive patches to the insides of your pants where your thighs touch, to help prevent holes from forming in the first place!

I got some on Amazon (this one) that is pretty cool! It’s neon pink in normal lighting, but glows yellow! I used it along with reflective vinyl from the same seller and Cricut gold to make my Chromeo shirts. This was my only HTV project really, so I can’t say how it compares to any other vinyl, but the colors were fun and it ironed on fine for me.

u/Monskiactual · 14 pointsr/CampingGear

this is correct. use a piece of cloth on both sides to reinforce the seam.

Also, cool pic. Ride Safe!

u/shesaidgoodbye · 6 pointsr/running

I was actually just looking at reflective iron ons to add to a bunch of my running clothes - is that how you add the strips? I was looking at some fun shapes like this haha

u/holesinmyheart · 3 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

I need some help with repair ideas! My favorite pair of jeans now has a small threadbare patch on the side of my back left pocket which is threatening to tear.
I was thinking of adding on a small patch like this lightning one or one of these roses but I could also do some bigger roses. What do you all think? Would putting a patch on help or could it make the jeans weaker? Thanks!

u/unthinkableduck · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Ooooooo! I come from a family line plagued by headaches. (We probably just need to stretch more. Lazy bums.) So I like this kind of stuff!

As for fabric, a pirate cat
never fails. Or to make it easier, something simple and elegant is always nice. :3

HANDMADE ROCKS!

u/apri11a · 0 pointsr/3Dprinting

I did similar for a group thing but I used a printer (lol) Print the image onto ink jet transfer sheets and then iron it onto the shirts. Worked a treat, washed well. There's a dark and a light type for applying to either a dark or a light shirt.

u/notopoli · 4 pointsr/CrossStitch

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001EQYYUG/ This was what i used. If you look at the reviews, you'll see my pictures of the towel i made. I do have to tie and tuck the floss. The backing comes off with washing but honestly i haven't applied a new backing since i made it. You can sew it on after ironing for extra reinforcement.

Got scared for a moment thinking that this post was for me! 😮

If you live in southern California, perhaps you could try to arrange a tour at JPL with him and friends (need at least 10 people).

Some space patches: NASA, Interstellar

Or maybe just clothing (tee's or hats) with regards to NASA, JPL, SpaceX logos or missions.

Space artwork prints and framed for display.

Perhaps recovered meteorites for display or some sort of necklace incorporating these fallen rocks.

And to break away from the space theme, any piece of tech you can find might be cool too. Metal detectors, Digital Multimeter, lasers, drones, home security or automation related products, computer accessories, Bluetooth headphones or earbuds.

If he is really into guns, perhaps a quality safe or rifle case.

If he is new to gun ownership or inexperienced, then perhaps a couple's training course for marksmanship?

Welcome to the Broken Bone Club. Heal up, the road awaits you...

u/dinaaa · 2 pointsr/sewing

yes! you need to go out and buy some THIN fusible interfacing. i have this kind at home which irons on and then stays permanently.

based on the pattern, you will probably need enough for the whole collar, and for the fabric going down where the buttons are. that is based on my experience making a dress with buttons going down it.

u/Ammulfinger · 5 pointsr/sewing

I'd use an iron-on patch, like those sold for jeans and khakis.

Or, you can darn it

u/kylemsweethockey · 1 pointr/coys

Pick one up from Amazon, go to your local soccer store and bring them along when you get your jersey customized. They should easily be able to add them if they have a heat press

u/KellyeTheGreat · 1 pointr/Embroidery

Sure, it's a hot iron transfer pattern. You can buy it here:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007300FHS/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_EKSSub14Z3DN1

Although you can likely find for much less at your local craft store, or even Walmart.
