glasses

TL;DR - Standard answer, the Glencairn glass (the official {Scotch} Whisk(e)y glass). My current favorite though is the Taylor'd Milestones Reserve Whiskey and Scotch Glasses available HERE

I'm by no means an expert, but I have tried many different shapes of glassware over the years... So, here are some of my experiences.

The standard highball/lowball, with their straight 🥃 (or even at times obtuse _/ ) sides, allows for too much area for many of the aromatics in the whisky to disperse and even escape, making the whisky very bland and uninteresting, thereby "weakening" or "taming" it a bit. Hence, this is where most people start.

Something with a bit of a bowl or tulip (_) to it is kind of the next step up. This helps to concentrate the aromas and can help to bring out some of the subtleties of a good whisky.

Then there is the Glencairn style glasses, which kind of combine the previous two. It is a slightly bowled base with the straightened tip of a lowball. This is the official Scotch Whisky glass, and does a really great job at really getting you intimately close with your whisky, bringing out even the slightest nuances. However, to me, this can be a bit much for whisky that is a little heavy on the nose.

So, the 3 different glasses that I have tried that use a very similar shape to the Glencairn, but widen the rim up a bit, thereby taming the nose ever so slightly, are the Canadian Glencairn, the Norlan, and the Taylor'd Milestones Reserve Whiskey and Scotch Glasses.

The Canadian Glencairn is a great glass but there are two things that bug me a bit about it. First off, it is slightly awkward to drink out of, as you nearly have to put the glass vertical before anything comes out. The second, much more minor issue, is that your hand is right on your whisky only separated by a very thin layer of glass, which will lead to warming up your whisky. Which you may or may not enjoy.

Then came the Norlan glass. It is essentially a Glencairn glass with some aerators in the bowl housed in a double walled tulip shaped glass, that way your hand will not warm up your whisky with a lingering enjoyment of a good dram. However, again, to me, it is just slightly awkward to sip from.

Enter the Taylor'd Milestones Reserve Whiskey and Scotch Glasses. And mentioned above, this is currently my favorite glass to enjoy a nice dram in. It is essentially a Glencairn this has an opening that is about 1.5 times the diameter (which can tame a slightly heavy nosing whisky just the right amount), and then a nice lowball type weight at the bottom of it. So, it feels great in the hand, and you don't have to have your hand right on the whisky if you don't want to. It also feels much more natural to sip from.

The link to the Taylor'd Milestones Reserve Whiskey and Scotch Glasses is at the top, but here are some links to some legit Glencairns.

The original Glencairn - 2 pack, 4 pack, or 6 pack

I would recommend that you use either the seller Stock Your Home or Our Pampered Home, as they both sell the official legitimate Glencairn glassware, and tend to be one of the lowest priced ones as well. There are a substantial amount of fakes out there! So, here are the same links, but for Stock Your Home (if available).

Original - 2 pack, 4 pack, or 6 pack

And then for Our Pampered Home (if available).

Original - 2 pack, 4 pack, or 6 pack

(Sorry for the delayed post, I've had a busy past couple of days)

All the best... Enjoy!

Flower petals, fake may work better, but I think their pretty classy.

ice I know it may not last long, but you could make a bunch of these and stick them in a bowl for center peices, and possibly put some black glitter in the bottom of it. Extra points if you can somehow get some uhm...that weird ice stuff that makes things smokey. That'd be boss.

I'm trying to think of cheap Ideas, haha.

The only other idea I have, is to get skull shot glasses like this and fill them with purple dyed water/glitter ect. Very small, but still something. Could even get the petals to go around it.

orrr get something like this to go in a smaller sugar skull vase/cup.

These are neat! They look kind of purpley and small. You could get again, flower petals, or silk flowers to border them. That would be cute.

I found this on google. Could probably make it by hand but its a little out there.

Doily + candle., could even use the no flame ones I linked.

I hope your wedding is absolutely wonderful! I demand pictures, because that seriously seems like an awesome idea and I'm pretty jelly. I wanna see how it turns outttt!

I was just about to suggest that you gift yourself, not realizing it was you. i was about to post a commenting telling the person doing this contest to gift /u/IguanaGrrl then i noticed that you were the one who was doing the contest. haha, awkward huh? but I guess other than gifting you something because you're such an awesome person I would love a gift for my boyfriend. he is obsessed with skulls and I love surprising him with gifts. most of the gifts i give him are hand made, just as you do.

thanks for the contest as well!

Detailed description, as required by sidebar and bot:

Handcrafted in Los Altos, the highlands region of Jalisco, El Espolón reveals the essence of Mexico. At its core is the spirit of the iconic rooster, a symbol synonymous with Mexico's proud history. This tequila is a tribute to the Mexican artists who inspired the world with their true portrayals of the rich, storied culture of Mexico. El Espolón takes you to where people celebrate everyday life - it pours you into the heart of real Mexico.

It is a 100% agave tequila añejo, distilled in San Nicolas, brought by Hecho & Envasado. It has a clean bright sweetness on first taste, developing a warm subtle spice, finishing with a cool green citrus cactus breeze.

It is served in a novelty shot glass, a 30ml glass cup, pierced with a .308 round, made in the USA, which we normally use to incentivise the winner of Russian Roulette World Championship with Русский Стандарт vodka.

Oh, also there's a fucking S&W wheelgun in the way. My FBI grandfather shot bad guys with it in the 50s or something.

S&W K-frame Military & Police, .38 special, 4" barrel

I inherited my dry, peeling, thin-as-paper nails from my mother and I live in a very arid climate which doesn't help.

I've gone through hundreds of nail products over the past decade or so and the only thing that works is Nailtiques Formula 2 Plus in conjunction with a lot of moisturization (hand cream, cuticle oil, and all the water you can drink). When I get lazy and stop using nailtiques and moisturizing my nails go right back to peeling at the quick and refusing any growth.

Some other tips:

  • Get a cheap angle brush for cleanup (like what you'd use for eyebrows or eyeliner - I picked up one from my local arts & crafts store in the paint section). After painting my nails I pour a small amount of acetone into a tiny ceramic or glass pot, grab my angle brush and a paper towel, and get to work cleaning up the edges. This is especially helpful on my dominant hand because that one can get a bit messy!
  • Use a hand cream with AHAs at night to help exfoliate your cuticles.

  • When needed, a gel cuticle remover in conjunction with an orangewood stick is a very effective way to push back your cuticles and get rid of extra skin around the nail, pre-manicure. After you've pushed back the cuticle skin, rinse it off and use cuticle nippers to cut off any hanging or dead skin (don't cut your cuticles off!).

  • A crystal or glass nail file is great to keep around, especially for nails like ours! They're more gentle on the nail and they last forever which mitigates the price in my opinion.

  • Always try to file in one direction, not back-and-forth. This helps prevent more fraying, peeling, cracking, and other general damage. I've found it also helps with tip chipping.

  • Clean your nails well before starting any coats of treatment or polish. I use OPI's Chip Skip, but swiping an acetone-soaked cotton ball over each nail should work well too. The idea is to get rid of any oils or other unwanted particles that get trapped under the nail polish and eventually lead to chips and bubbling.

  • When painting the nail, bring the polish over the edge of the nail (and a bit underneath if possible). Do the same with the topcoat. This should also help with chipping.

  • Seche Vite top coat gets recommended frequently - I used it for quite a few years until I realized it was the reason my nail polish was peeling off and shrinking off my tips. It dries very quickly but it has the tendency to pull the polish underneath right off the nail. I've had full nails of polish peel off with that stuff. For a quick drying top coat that works like a charm - and is way cheaper - try ProFX's Quick Dry High Gloss Top Coat - just FYI the only place I've been able to find it in-store is Walmart.

    Good luck!

You should get:

1.Black Flats -> You can match them up with literally EVERYTHING, and you'll wear them more than once.

2.Necklace -> These are SUPER matchable (if that's even a word.) They can make any plain old shirt pop and give it an extra fashionable kick. I'd go with orange and/or White

3.Scarf -->Fall is coming and then Winter, this is SUCH a good acessory to make you warmer and look better, you can wear it around your neck or as a headband It's a cream color so It's super easy to wear with anything; you could even wear your flats ;)

4.Food Chopper -->Think of how easy it would be to make some salsa or guacamole with this! (Now my mouth's watering)

5.Tie Hanger--> You can so use it to hang headbands and belts and scarfs, not just ties! Mess be gone!

6.Shot Glasses--> These ensure a fun night, and who doesn't need shot glasses? There's never enough!

7.Too Faced Matte Collection--> I know for myself I always think, oh I don't want to pay that much for makeup but you know what? It's worth it. Too Faced is such a good brand and the combinations are endless, they're very well pigmented and work so good.

Total: $99.44

I have an extra tip for you! Don't buy elf products from here, they're 50% more expensive and if you buy them on their webpage and spend 25 or more, you get free shipping and they ALWAYS have special offers.

for some good scotch.

=========================

What's being reviewed: Compass Box Peat Monster

In what: Glencairn on steroids. This one actually.Let's forego the rest of the details since you all know it by now.

Pre-drink thoughts: I like Compass Box (tried the Muse at a bar, loved it, bought a bottle 2 weeks later. That's a review for another day). But I'm not sure if I like peat. But the wife does and this is a hobby I'd like to share with her, especially since I plan on spending our money on it - so why not try something she might enjoy as well.

Nose: Smoke. Nasal burn. Light band-aid-y scents.Taste: Faint smoke, kind of like how I would imagine what my shirt would taste like the morning after a bonfire. There's a sweetness to this as well. A hint of something salty I think.

Finish: Might be me, but the finish seems long. It's smokey, It stays with me after the exhale, it lingers...like a memory. (Also that medicinal note is there too)

Rating: * * * *Would I buy again: Yes absolutely

Final Note: This review is being written without notes to reference, as I want to only convey the parts that really stick with me. Plus, I can't discern things like "malty peat", "hammy fruit jam", "wafting fields of baby octopus tentacles", hence the very short descriptors.

================Rating System (stars)

  • 1 = nope. never again
  • 2 = will drink if offered for free
  • 3 = would not buy a bottle, but would buy at a bar
  • 4 = must have on hand at home at all times
  • 5 = cream of my crop. willing to pay premium for a bottle.

Ideally you want a tulip-shaped glass when drinking neat, it will give you a better nosing experience by directing/concentrating the fumes. Same reason you use a large bowl-shaped or tulip-shaped glasses for red wine.

That said, I think a glencairn is less than optimal for anything more than a small taste of lower- to moderate-proof whiskey. It has the tapered shape to concentrate the nose, but it's actually a little too concentrated for stuff like barrel proof unless you just really enjoy smelling ethanol fumes.

The biggest issue with the glencairn though, is it's just too small. The nose develops due to air exposure, and the larger the surface area of your whiskey in the glass, the more quickly (and more fully) the nose will develop. When you pour 1.5-2 oz into a glencairn the surface area is actually quite small relative to the volume of liquid.

IMHO you'll get a better nosing experience for high-proof stuff by using a small rocks glass, or some sort of tulip-shaped glass with a larger bowl than a glencairn. My personal favorite is the Taylor'd Milestone.

This card game

This shot glass

My hubby and I are so competitive when it come to games. To the point that one of us is always laughing at the others little tantrum. All in good fun of course. And to have a little alcohol in an amazingly awesome shot glass to go with a round of Cards Against Humanity may give me a fighting chance seeing as I can't drink right now it would give me the upper hand :)

Schmad on my add. Thanks for the contest.

My current settings (although your will be different, as it varies based on beans and machines, this is just to give you ideas) uses 200Degrees Brazilian Love Affair Beans, 16.8 seconds grind time, on grind size 25 with the Sage (Breville) Smart Grinder Pro, which gives me 18g of ground coffee. I then extract for about 30 seconds giving me 60ml of espresso.

So to answer your questions

1 - Single shot = 7-10g coffee, 25-30ml final shot volume

Double shot = 14-20g coffee, 50-60ml final shot volume

2 - I have a small set of scales for checking the weight of coffee, and a graduated shot pitcher to collect the coffee in, they are VERY useful when getting your shot tuned. I highly recommend getting both.

3 - I personally would get everything else tuned in using the single cup preset, as then you can keep that consistent while tweaking the other variables.

We use the Montessori method of introducing a small cup of water with meals at 6 months. We just used a thick glass shot glass with an inch of water at a time. My LO picked it up pretty quick. I found a shot glass at good Will with a handle like a mug and it’s perfect!

Now when my LO needed more milk around 13 months we used strawcups because she needed the calories otherwise I would’ve kept using the small cup.

We used these glasses they’ve been dropped on wood floor and never shattered

Here are some of my basic DIY juice tips:

  • All liquid containing nicotine needs to be stored securely. It is the one poison in your house that doesn't smell or taste bad; in fact some of it smells downright tempting. The risks are thus high to a pet or child. Don't screw this up!

  • Measuring cups are great for the larger quantities such as diluting down your nicotine base.

  • Some flavorings (e.g. Absinthe) can react with plastic so your steeping should be done in glass. I prefer small amber glass bottles, but I then tap off very small quantities into needle capped bottles for filling convenience.

  • The markings on small plastic syringes (e.g. 1ml syringe) wear off quickly. So just get a serrated knife and score at the 0.1ml, 0.2ml, 0.3ml, 0.5ml, and 1.0ml mark.

  • You NEED to make notes. Nothing fancy, a plain text document will do. Some flavorings are added at 1% but some at 10%+ and you need to note down which.

  • Never, ever make more than 30ml of a particular flavor at a time. You'll always regret it.

  • Some flavors are really designed to be added in small quantities to change/enhance others. For example Creme De Menthe or Dulce De Leche. On their own they're "meh" but when used with other flavors they're game-changers.

  • Some of the FlavourArt flavorings are fantastic value for money as they only need to be added at 1%. I'm thinking in particular of their Virginia and Ultimate Maxboro. Use http://www.flavourartexpress.biz/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=3 to identify their reccomended ratios.

I personally love mixing my own ejuice and the 400%+ cash savings are just icing on the cake.

When you wish upon a star

My favorite Disney/Pixar movie is probably Up. It never fails to make me smile and cry. The funny moments really make me smile/laugh, and the sad moments make me cry my eyes out, and I like how it has that balance. But even without that reason, I feel like Dug the dog is enough reason to make it one of my favorite Disney movies.

My favorite Disney song is Colors of the Wind. It just sounds really soothing to me. I used to have a really close friend who always sung it, but we drifted apart due to some circumstances, and whenever I hear the song, I'm reminded of her.

I think you need these I mean... who doesn't want to take shots from their pill bottles? It's the best feeling ever. (Also, I totally added them to my own wishlist because they're just THAT awesome.)

u/Saermegil · 1 pointr/Coffee

Get them some very nice coffee cups, depending on what kind of coffee they drink ,something like this , these are affordable enough to get them a couple of different sets maybe.

u/daermonn · 1 pointr/espresso

I use this measuring cup and this scale. I weigh the beans going into the grinder. I measure the espresso coming out by setting the scale on the drip tray, putting the little plastic cover that came with the scale on top to protect it from spray/overflow, and then put the cup on top of that. With my bottomless portafilter, there's more than enough room.

I always thought this was pretty cool.

For anyone curious about the skull glasses they were using, Amazon Link.

Just bought a couple as xmas gifts, they're pretty slick.

/u/Fmradiochick your drive impresses me every day.

I have a pretty decent array of facial hair.

Wanting to be someone else is a waste of who you are

I like the double-wall shot glass style cup for ristretto shots, but prefer the Ozeri Moderna over the Bodum Pavina because the Ozeri are completely enclosed glass and don't have Bodum's silicone 'seal' on the bottom. They're also less expensive and feel sturdier. Ozeri makes several different larger volume glasses for your filter coffees or milked espresso drinks as well.

u/insomni666 · 2 pointsr/AmazonUnder5

That's an add-on only.

This one is the same thing for $3.33 plus free shipping, and is not an add-on item.

u/teemark · 1 pointr/bourbon

Mostly a glencairn, but I'm starting to like the Taylor'D glasses for bourbon. They're basically a wider, shorter glencairn.

u/Vegas99 · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

For science! This totally counts, right? =P

Really, on a Monday?

Happy future birthday! Drink responsibly. It's no bueno to me projectile vomiting on a day of happiness.

I found this really awesome skull shot glass.

I got it on sale at Michael's for $30, but this one on Amazon is similar.

My goal is to get enough money to build my dream house and open a bar or comic book shop. Its just a way for me to connect with the people who have no one in their lives to connect to. I want to pay it forward to the young nerds who have no friends or a way to express themselves (like how I used to be).

How about this shot glass?

u/drummer_girl · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

We just kind of dove in. We offered a cup at mealtimes, and once he got more of that in his mouth than on his lap, we started offering a cup throughout the rest of the day too. Right now, we offer a regular cup like this shot glass whenever he asks for water, and he has access to one of the 360 cups full of water on a low shelf in the dining room at all times.

Its a couple of ceramic shot glasses that look as a medicine dispenser.

u/ArchibaldHairyTuttle · 2 pointsr/whiskey

I just bought a set of these. More of glencairn shape, but with a stem.

u/nightwing_87 · 6 pointsr/pics
u/SpaceCadet2000 · 4 pointsr/Scotch

It is a Glencairn, they have a crystal cut variant.
