I did this with mine. I got it off Amazon for something like $5. I ordered two to be sure I got the right one.

This ended up being the right one for me. Defender Security S 4125 Mail Box... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000B4GTS2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

IIRC you need a flathead and pliers to remove the old lock.

I avoided a $50 Rekey or $100 fine from the HOA.

For what you are doing, I'd recommend flag pole brackets, these are $3:

this will be much easier to install and more sturdy.

trying to get the dowels to stay put with the d-ring solution, when a cat / wind / squirrels land on that thing, you're gonna have a bad time.

This is what first-responders like, especially in rural areas and at night.

I bought a house recently and want to replace the mailbox, since it's basically crumbling. But it's currently mounted on a 2 3/8" steel pole, which is not how anyone mounts a mailbox, so no standard mounting hardware fits it. What I need is something like this, but that's twice as much as I spent on the mailbox itself. Does anyone know of a better/cheaper way to do this? Please don't suggest replacing the pole, I'm not doing that.

In the rural area my Dad lives in, most people use a contraption like this, with a longer arm. His box still gets dinged up, but it stays standing.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Letter-Cover-Draught-Excluder-Internal/dp/B0071ZYD00 may work.

Those knobs are actually screws, and if you could loosen them just enough you might be able to fit a draught excluder under them

That is a mailbox lock. If it is different, someone changed it.

It's far from their intended use case, and may require a bit of "warranty voiding" to get an access point mounted inside, but a non-metallic alarm panel enclosure may meet your needs well. They're generally designed to be tamper-resistant and lockable, and usually are large enough to fit an AP inside.

Downside though is that completely encasing an AP will likely impact the signal a bit. I'm not sure how much, but if it's plastic I don't imagine it'd be that bad. I'm definitely not an expert on RF signal degradation though.
