Find an app on your phone that can scan cards. If you are on Android, Delver Lens is fantastic for this. I'm sure there are others for iOS as well. Scan the cards you save in so 1) you can ensure you only keep 8 of them and 2) you can see if there's any valuable cards in the bunch. This also makes it super easy to look back and see what you have if you decide you want to make a new deck.

If you score some valuable uncommons then I would suggest a binder for them, or at least investing in some penny sleeves to keep them in NM condition.

Beyond that, you can keep the bulk in a corrugated box like this. There's also dividers you can get for very cheap in bulk to separate things. Probably by set > color at least. They sell binders that have pages permanently attached, which are fine and sometimes have cool designs, but for my "valuable card storage" binders I just get a regular 3-ring binder and fill it with sleeves from Ultra Pro. Be 100% sure if you get any binder that it is acid free. Check out Tolarian Community College for review on products like this. While you're there, take in some of the hilarious videos. I always get a chuckle out of the Magic the Gathering the VCR Game.

Good luck with your new collection! Welcome to the cardboard crack club.

I think Magic is one of the harder hobbies/interests to buy gifts for if you're not in the hobby yourself. So guides like this are a good idea and necessary. However, I think this one could be improved. To be frank. I think you could still go really wrong buying for a magic player using this guide, especially for established players.

First, I think the deckboxes you've included there are not a good recommendation at all, even for beginner players. Those deck boxes are just at the bottom end of quality - which is why they're 5 for eight dollars. You can get an Ultimate Guard Boulder for about the same price as this 5-pack or an Ultra Pro Satin Tower for a little more - and those are two of the best deck boxes on the market. If you want to get something for multiple decks, get [one of these](https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Pro-2-Piece-Storage-Compartment/dp/B0002TT3JI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1543283539&sr=8-2&keywords=ultra+pro+card+storage) which isn't top of the line but is probably more useful than the recommended product. Even new players move on from deck boxes like that pretty quickly, so why spend money on something that's low quality and won't be used long? Same issue with your card sleeve recommendations. Those basic ultra pro sleeves are terrible, can't speak for the inked gaming ones but I know art sleeves are often very suspect outside of some of the most recent developments. Why not link to higher quality sleeves and make purchasing easy?

For similar reasons, I don't think I could recommend planeswalker decks for anyone except the absolute beginner.

As far as the sealed product goes, while I wouldn't be upset to receive a bundle or booster box, I would kinda feel bad that the giver spent so much on a product that is ultimately unlikely to be of much use. If you're willing to spend $40 to $100+ on magic product for a friend or family member, you can do so much better than buying a ton of packs. Also in this respect, I'm not sure how helpful a guide is when you've essentially listed everything they sell on the shelf at walmart. Why not just make a page that says "just go grab a box of cards off the shelf, it's fine!"

I enjoy opening packs occasionally, but it feels bad when someone gets me a gift they'd like me to enjoy and have spent their money on, and I get a bulk rare I can't use. Even if they do pull something good, unless it's useful in a deck they have, best they can do is trade/sell it, which is also not great for a gift. There are a lot more things you could find that would be both valuable for MTG players and stick around in their collections a lot longer.

I use these and LOVE em for my best, most valuable, treasured cards. And yes, I put a perfect fit sleeve over it first.

Congrats on the cards!

u/NTPrime · 3 pointsr/TransformersTCG

Soft: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JHZBVQ9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hard: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000VVCPUG?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title

I recommend Ultra Pro for soft and hard. BCW does not have a soft sleeve and Ultra Pro's soft sleeve does not fit inside a BCW. With Ultra Pro you can easily double sleeve.

Titan Size Soft (not perfect but best fit. Does not perfectly fit inside the hard one, it will hang out of the top by a few millimeters but the card is fully covered): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TJQZ31W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Titan Size Hard (not perfect but best fit. Putting a soft inside does hang out of the top a little bit but the card is fully covered): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V0EYDYY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

As for combiners, unfolded they are the same size as a regular character so they will fit with these the same way. I leave them fully unfolded inside a sleeve and then use a marker of some kind to show their mode. My tip for that is that a character card is exactly the size of two battle cards. So any spare battle card can be used to cover up one side or the other.

u/BaSkA_ · 2 pointsr/pkmntcg

I believe your best option for a binder to hold the 4-slot sheets for top loaders with be double sleeved (perfect fit + penny) cards inside each top loader is Top Loader Binders: they are quite expensive though, even if your cards might be worth $400+. Example of the product.

However, if you don't plan on showing off your collection often and just want them to be safe, I'd recommend putting everything double sleeved in top loaders and storing them in regular cardboard boxes for top loaders. I think boxes are safer than binders, if both were kept in the same conditions.

u/alexanderM40a3 · 1 pointr/discgolf

If you were to put it on your wall I would get a shadow box or something. Whirling Circles makes a good shadow box that I think is available on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HLYGWS9/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1537734553&sr=8-1&keywords=shadow+box+disc+golf

It would probably be pretty cool and my area's tournament leader gets his in bulk from Amazon. Each tournament in my area gives out a display case as the 1st place prize for the winner to hold a trophy disc or an ace disk. I would check out Whirling Circle.

u/RAChiraneau · 8 pointsr/twilightimperium

Here's what we did to store our TI4 in the box. I stole the idea from user bigegg on the bgg forums in this thread--

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1885145/storage-solution-box

Some of his details are incorrect and he has no references for what he actually used or bought, so that's what I'm doing here.

Ground force tokens, trade good tokens, and other misc things go in one of these: (EDIT: we clipped off the little hanger thing on the end because it made the box just barely not fit) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000E39T4Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Action card deck and Agenda deck each gets one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002TT3KW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Seventeen of these for the race tokens and cards, one for the planet deck, and one for the objective deck, for a total of nineteen:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002TT3KM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Lastly, these six boxes are for the ships and the colored cards--the tech decks and promissory notes: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K2DREPO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Everything all together was around $50.

We cut the planet tray out of the rest of the tray with a box knife, and we put the strategy cards atop one of the stacks of planets. The victory track we ended up moving to the top of the race boxes so it would lay flat. Other than that, the books and stuff sit on top of everything, and the box closes up no problem. It's considerably heavier than before due to all the added plastic, of course, but it's looking like cleanup and set up will be much easier with this method because all anybody will need to grab is their color box and their race box. Hope this helps!

Edit: Ah also forgot to mention--we sleeved everything in these. They are thinner than the FFG ones and therefore fit in our plastic cases:
https://www.amazon.com/Mayday-Games-Sleeves-41x63mm-sleeves/dp/B06XZGN51N/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1511979051&sr=8-4&keywords=mini+card+sleeves

This softball display case has been amazing! You have to fill it up with a ton of sub but it is crystal clear and easy to open!

You have to add ventilation, but that’s very easy! I also have one from Jaimie’s and prefer this tenfold.

u/Mare_Vaporum · 3 pointsr/KingdomDeath

I have the base game and all expansions. Every card I have is sleeved, except for the gear cards.

For all normal sized cards:
https://www.amazon.com/Clear-Sleeves-Standard-American-Board/dp/1589945131
These fit flawlessly!

For settlement locations:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J01XP52/
Yes, they fold around and seal on the back, but right now they are the best answer to protecting this huge investment.

For settlement events:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003D06SGE/
These are like 1mm too short. Sometimes it drives me a bit mad, but again, I would much rather they were protected this much, than not at all. They do get shuffled and used every round. I've seen some people use two sleeves per card to cover it completely, but that's a bit much and they tend to split badly when you attempt it.

Why did I not sleeve the gear cards? Because I bought these and cut them down to a 3x3 grid:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002KDNAU2/
This keeps them quite protected during the game and is incredibly convenient as far as storing for next round.

Hope this helps!

u/onefreehour · 1 pointr/DIY

A shadow box may be what your looking for, something like [this](https://www.amazon.com/Jersey-Display-Frame-Shadow-Hinged/dp/B00DWHZQES/ref=as_li_ss_il?ie=UTF8&qid=1468448583&sr=8-2&keywords=Shadow+Box+frame+4"+deep&linkCode=li2&tag=onefreehour-20&linkId=722a4dfab0893b28ff34837019780515" target="_blank").

Though at 3" deep it may be just barely deep enough for the dream cast. I would then use the Command 2-way damage free strips to mount it to the inside of the shadow box.

Whatever you end up doing post some pictures of the finished product. I wold love to see it! Good Luck!

u/JDAggie06 · 2 pointsr/KeyforgeGame

I like the idea of having all my decks together with a storage solution like that. It's looking like I'll have at least half a dozen after splitting a display with a friend of mine plus any that I pick up from sealed tournaments. Do you know if there is anything sort of foam insert block product out there that I could use to fill the extra space in that box until my collection become sufficiently large to not fall over in the box?

EDIT: Think I found a winner - https://www.amazon.com/20-Pack-Trading-Card-Monster-Pads/dp/B00FGL43QA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1539797548&sr=8-2

u/BenGEE · 22 pointsr/baseball

Do it. Sentimental issues aside that ball is worth a few grand. Roy Campanella was paralyzed the next year in a car accident, Early Koufax signatures are even more rare than the rest of his signatures. You have like 7 or 8 hall of famers and cy young award winners. Protect it.

u/LinkOpensChest_wav · 4 pointsr/EDH

Here's what I do: I put them in these first, and then slide these postcard sleeves over the top. The postcard sleeves fit perfectly over the top of the Ultra Pro oversized commander sleeves. There is a little overhang at the bottom which can be easily trimmed with a hobby knife if it bothers you. So it's sort of a reverse double sleeving, but just as protected nevertheless.

u/iPrime27 · 1 pointr/hockeycards

You’ve got some good cards there, especially for just starting out. I recommend putting the better cards such as the McDavid, Tkachuk, Larkin, etc rookie cards into a penny sleeve and top loader or a one touch case.

Nice pucks! I use these for displaying single pucks and these are great if you wanna display a card with it.

u/VicVox72 · 1 pointr/KingdomDeath

Perfectly fitting SEs -- you wish. The sleeves are about 2mm too short... I tried "double bagging" them by having a second SE sleeve the other way round -- but then you actually start having weird refraction light issues and cannot read the cards all that well anymore.

Anyway, at own peril: these are what I am using:

u/matrix121391 · 2 pointsr/dropmix

I am currently using this to store my cards (sleeved), which is perfect for wave 1 (one compartment per genre with dividers to separate each playlist, as organized in the app's Collection section):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002TT3JI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I might end up getting another one for wave 2.

For the Dropmix board itself, I took the advice from several threads around here and on Discord:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002GL7ZO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The deck box I specified fits pretty well in the front pouch. The main compartment is a tad bigger than what the board requires, but you can probably use the extra space for more deck boxes or speakers.

I can take some pictures after work if ya'll would like!

They are great for the price. The front is plastic and is an absolute dust magnet but they display nicely.

u/Marc_IRL · 1 pointr/magicTCG

Ah, of course sports cards have been doing this for years. Started looking at the screw-down holders, and it led me to some other displays. I could see this 20 slot holding something like the spirit avatars and lieges cycles from Shadowmoor era sets.

More irregular requirements might get me to try my own matting though. Thanks for the advice.

Ultra Pro 4" X 6" Toploader 25ct https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000O9QJP2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_QrvBEzu75nP1H

Trim the top and your player mats will last forever. It's what I use and they work great.

u/pyromosh · 2 pointsr/magicTCG

That hasn't been an issue yet, mostly because I use "Monster pads".

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FGL43QA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Someone else may make them too and call them something else, I don't know. But they're just foam rubber inserts that take up space and allow cards to not move even if the box isn't totally full.

I started with one at the end of each row and a little extra space on top of that. I know eventually, I'll have to add a box and just move stuff around to evenly distribute it all. But I've had this system in place for the better part of a year without that happening yet. I can live with that.

u/skeakzz · 3 pointsr/funkopop

Not sure what that one is but I really like the ultra pro hard stacks. Really thick plastic and no bottom or top lid, just two pieces that fit together.

I ordered some of these of various sizes and they're really nice. But for a game like Eldritch Horror I noticed setup and tear down was taking too long since I haven't actually labeled them so I ordered this and just got it yesterday. I haven't actually put anything in it and it's a little pricey but not too bad for a sturdy card holder.

Ultra pro sell these six compartment deck boxes with enough room for 6 decks I believe. I can’t remember what they’re called but they’re a clear acrylic material and relatively cheap. I’ll try to find them online.

So it’s ultimate guard that sell the 6 compartment boxes: 6 deck box

And ultra pro sell these 4 compartment boxes: 4 deck box

u/chaotic_iak · 1 pointr/boardgames

Whoops, doesn't ship to my country unfortunately. Although I found this one that seems to be good (a review says 100 per compartment with 4 compartments). If you or anyone have experience with that, how good is that?
