I just use one of these . The SQ is obviously potato quality but for the ambient noise I play to fall asleep to, it does an alright job.

I fell asleep with my 1000XM2s last week and woke up at 3am with my ears throbbing.

I’m currently using these sleep headphones, they are very comfy. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014T3QLBA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_459MBb2F6K5S4

They make "sleep headphones", masks with built in earpads. It's a lifesaver. Ex: CozyPhones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014T3QLBA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LfASAb2KADT2S

would she maybe like these better than the airpods?

If you want something that doesn't make any noise for other people (or has a more options), I'd recommend buying some headphones you can sleep on (or, if you have airpods, just leave an airpod in only one ear and sleep on the other). In addition, if you have IOS, Dark Noise is pretty good and has a variety of noises (beach, rain, campfire, white/brown/pink/grey noise, etc) which makes it optimal if you're also using it for things like work.

I sometimes have trouble falling asleep because I'm thinking about things, so I recently wrote a script that just brings my computer volume to 0 over the course of an hour and just put on The Office. Netflix also stops and asks if you're still watching after 60min, so it'll automatically pause. Plus, it has the added benefit of making it easy to convince yourself to go to sleep if you ever procrastinate on that (you're not "going to sleep", you're "listening to tv"). Would not recommend with a show you haven't seen before since you're very likely to miss at least 40+ min of content.

They make sleep headphones.

I never got around to buying any, but I think I have the extra funds now. Thanks for the reminder!

Yep, I do this all the time. I set a marker where I am when I settle down so I can rewind easily.

I have one of these too which helps massively https://www.amazon.co.uk/CozyPhones-Headphones-Speakers-Meditation-Relaxation/dp/B014T3QLBA/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1543401203&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=sleep+headband&psc=1

This is the set I use, because it's cheap and I was trying it out for the first time. It works, but sometimes I wake up with the cord tangled around an arm or my neck.

When these wear out, I'll be going for a wireless option, something like this.

I sleep on my side and my stomach. I use an app called Rain Sounds (android) to generate white noise. Best of luck, friend.

I've tried a few and they're all mostly similar. If you want some that plug-in to your phone, these are decent: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014T3QLBA

All the ones I've seen still have speakers that are not super comfortable if you sleep on your side, but they're not too bad. I hope someday someone will make some super thin/comfortable ones.

What are struggling with?
I’m obsessive about headphones. If you listen to audio while falling asleep maybe try something like cozyphones, I’ve got the Bluetooth version and use them almost every night.

I have to use a white noise machine app and sleep headphones like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014T3QLBA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_bSRSBbXHNH69G

With the headphones playing that white noise directly in my ears it blocks out all other noise. I was even able to sleep through an exes sleep apnea sometimes. The only problem is now I’m completely dependent on them and can’t sleep without them.

If you need to listen to something to nod off, I highly recommend sleep headphones, where they're flat and wrap around in a cloth band. Like these.

They're not amazing when it comes to sound quality, or will they drown out the world, but you can listen to stuff and sleep on your side, so, of course, they're the greatest thing ever.
