The Flydigi Wee 2 makes mention of that fact that it supports phones up to 6.3 inches in length. Given that the Note 9 is 6.37 inches, it sounds like it may work. I don't own a Note 9 (nor the Wee 2) so I can't test it, but it may be worth looking into.

For what it's worth, I do own the Flydigi Wee (the original one) and I love that thing. It's the best Android controller I've ever bought, hands down. I've had probably 6 or 7 different ones throughout my lifetime and the Wee was the last one I bought because it does everything I want it to.

Seen this posted on android gaming subreddit. Seems to be best option but most expensive. Guy had a youtube tutorial about it. Actual controller that works even though there is no support right now https://www.amazon.com/Flydigi-Bluetooth-Controller-Telescopic-Connecting/dp/B07DJ85NF3/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3DTN5HG1C8V6O&keywords=flydigi%2Bwee%2B2&qid=1569987040&sprefix=fly%2Bdigi%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-1&th=1&psc=1

Yeah, if we were living in 2005-2014 without a proper smartphone that can emulate the PSP itself at full speed.

These days you can slap a GameVice on a Galaxy S7, S8, Note8, S9, Pixel 2/3 or a Flydigi Wee 2 on anything else and get yourself a proper portable emulation powerhouse.

EDIT:

Here's a small gallery of potato quality images for a comparison using the Flydigi Wee 2: https://imgur.com/a/TDBxr3A

It's interesting how only the PSP games have muted colors on the PSP. But everything else looks quite nice.

A nice alternative.

Can't use it with the fan, but still gets the job done.

Kinda pricey-ish for what it is but get yourself one of these and play it on your phone with a similar form factor :P only downside is it covers where you'd normally plug in headphones but bluetooth ones work fine with it

There's a few other controllers like it, in general they're called "telescopic controllers". Flydigi makes a few including the Wee, Wee 2, and Wee 2T. They're more on the expensive side, but they're custom made rather than using generic parts such as the Daqi M1 (the IPEGA Red Knight basically is the same controller but with a worse firmware).

There are controllers out now that turn your phone onto a Switch-like handheld.

The cool thing is you can also use it to play emulators if your phone is capable.

They are pretty inexpensive as well.

You can already emulate the DS on Android phones.

Drastic. And then a controller like the Ipega PG-9055 or the Flydigi Wee and you're set.

This is the best one. The companion app that it uses allows remapping the controls to touchscreen inputs. A bit pricey but hands down the best controller.

Has some cons, using cases with it is a snug fit. I use the spigen case and it just barely fits. Set up is also a bit tedious but after you have it set up, you do not have to do it again.

Pros are good though, Can even turn off your phone and it will still keep the settings. Unlike that octopus app. Also you have to set the game up in the app for the first time. After initial setup you can just launch the game directly from the game app and not the controller app. Also works with Google play supported games. Although fortnite might not be supported but i haven't tried it so i cannot confirm.

Want to take it a step further? Use this usbc to hdmi cable to mirror your phone to a tv, monitor or projector. It also has a usb c power input that supports fast charging.

And in case you are wondering i use a RP1

I've been looking at this one, but there's a lack of reviews, and it's a bit more than I wanted to spend...
