Absolutely.

For your controller needs, if you want to use a DualShock4, DS3, Wii U Pro Controller or WiiMote, all you need is a mini Bluetooth dongle and a driver such as DS4Windows (google "[controller] driver windows"). With the proper driver they should be supported under most games, but they might require a button mapping tool to work with some stuff (we can help you with that).

If you want to go the easy route and have a controller supported by most games with no driver configuration as soon as you plug it in, an Xbone controller is your choice. However, it will require a special M$ dongle to work wirelessly, and be warned that this dongle only works under Windows 10. Alternately, if you can live with some inferior design features, you can get a 360 controller (which still works with nearly all controller games) and its corresponding dongle, which has the added benefit of working with all Windows's back to XP. However, be aware that both of these controllers require AA batteries rather than the rechargeable packs found in DualShock/Nintendo. You can buy a rechargeable pack for Xbox controllers but it obviously costs extra.

All of the aforementioned controllers will also work over USB with any operating system.

Now to the second part of your question. I assume that you mean you want to play on your TV–this can be accomplished one of two ways and is easy to setup. The first and most obvious way is to simply keep your PC in your entertainment center and hook it to your TV over HDMI, in much the same way that you would your PS4. Steam's Big Picture mode tries to emulate the homescreen of a console to make controller navigation easier, and does a pretty good job of it. Coming from the PS4 interface I'm sure you'll feel right at home–but you do still need a KB+mouse to get in Big Picture from a cold PC startup. This shouldn't be an issue as there are many cheap wireless keyboards with inbuilt trackpads on offer.

The second way is to use a Steam Link. This is a very handy little set-top box that will stream video input over the internet from a PC in the house–if you've ever heard of the PlayStation TV, this is similar. In order to use the Link you must have fast (at least 10mbps; check using speedtest.net) Ethernet on both ends (your PC and the Link) and a controller that connects over USB (either thru a USB cable or a USB wireless receiver. The Xbox receivers mentioned in a previous paragraph currently don't work with the Link but Valve says they are looking into it). It's very simple to setup–hook the Link to internet, plug in your controller and HDMI cable for TV connection, and pair it with your PC. Then you'll have total access to all your controller-supported PC games from the couch, with no loss of graphics.

Also, as a PC gamer, I have a word for you–there are some games that do play better with KB+M, especially shooters. Trust me, once you try something like Call of Duty with a mouse, you will never be able to go back to aiming with controller sticks. If you want this benefit but still find KB+M uncomfortable, there is the Steam Controller which features a more accurate trackpad in place of the right stick, and will work with most of the games that an Xbox controller works with.

One final word. If you are actually, legitimately serious about getting into PC gaming–please for the LOVE OF GOD do not buy a pre-built one. BUILD. YOUR. OWN. Seriously, if you are looking to surpass consoles and get value for money, I CANNOT stress this enough. Although it may seem daunting at first it's really little more than high-tech LEGOs–/r/BuildaPCforMe will furnish you with a parts list so you don't have to bother with that, and then the build will take two hours tops (even if you're inexperienced). There are tons of great videos on YouTube that will show you how–this is my personal fave, although I do advise you not to use any of those parts since that vid is considerably old.

If you have any questions feel free to reply to this and I can help you out.

Go in with minimal expectations. It's a really well done thing, ESPECIALLY considering it's running on your phone, but there are limitations and flaws.

Make sure you have at the very least some decent headphones. Using headphones makes a HUGE difference in VR. A Bluetooth controller isn't required for most apps in the store, but it doesn't hurt to have it for some games. Most apps control just fine with the touch pad, but there are a couple games that need one. I picked up a SteelSeries Stratus XL and it's sturdy and feels great, although it isn't rechargeable.

It's also not a bad idea to have a micro cloth and maybe some alcohol wipes and canned air on hand. You really want to make sure that there is as little dust, smudge on both sides of the lenses as well as on the screen, since you're gonna be seeing all of that really up close.

Now here are some apps that I've tried and I think are must have so far:

Introduction to Virtual Reality
A relatively short video of some clips that show you what VR is about.

Netflix
You're in a cozy cabin with a mountain view watching Netflix on a giant TV. Really immersive.

Oculus Video
You can stream different types of videos from facebook, twitch and vimeo and play them on a big screen in different settings like home theater, movie theater and even on the moon. Works in a similar way as the Netflix app.

Milk VR
Another streaming service, but without an immersive area where you're relaxing, just a floating screen. You can play downloaded VR videos through this app.

Cirque du Soleil's Kurios and Zarkana
I've never been interested in Cirque du Soleil, but seeing it up close in 360 and 3D is really neat. Zarkana is a really short part of it and Kurios is a 10 minute act. Really fantastic, immersive stuff.

Jurassic World: Apatosaurus
Short video where you're sitting on a log in the woods with a giant sauropod from the Jurassic Era comes out of the ground and asks for money. We was so scared, lord have mercy. WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM US, MONSTER?

Dreadhalls
Randomly generated dungeon crawler where you don't have weapons and are stuck with a bunch of nasty creatures. I love horror games and have been playing them for many years, but this one makes me really uncomfortable. Play with headphones.

Land's End
Kind of a mild puzzle experience with really nice, clean visuals. Very neat

StreetView VR
It's not 3D, but really cool to be able to just zap around the world and see 360 images of places where you've never been. Swipe up and you get a random location, swipe down and you can tell it where to go. Voice recognition has worked for me really well so far. There isn't any ambient audio in the app, so I recommend playing your own music before you start this.

There are a TON of different apps out there and a bunch that I haven't mentioned, so have fun with it when you get it.

So far i got my LaunchBox installed and working, BigBox License will be bought eventually.

Gamepads, i got the Xbox 360 pad, but i don't really want to use it for retro gaming, that just doesn't hit the right feels for me.
Instead i got these two 8bitdo Pads here.
Love the SNES one, the NES looking one with the sticks i don't really use but i like the novelty of it.

Just ordered this NES looking 8bitdo pad
i would prefer if it the button layout was identical with the NES (2 buttons instead of 4), but wireless takes priority and the 8bitdo quality seems really good so far.

I also ordered a SEGA Genesis pad from Hyperkin, from what i read this is the best quality mockup that is available in my region.
I've seen one or two others that might not suck but aren't available and i've seen a few more that are obvious trash.

What i'm really looking forward to are the SEGA/retro-bit wireless controllers they showed at CES 2018.
I know retro-bit quality has always been hit and miss (especially the PC USB pads seem to be trash level), but they are licensed by SEGA now, i'm confident they will put their A-Game forward here. But no idea when those will be released or if they will even make it to Shops in Germany.

...
as far as Emulators go, i'll use whatever makes the ROM start.
I'm really not happy right now that some Emulators (i'm looking at you BizHawk 2.2.1) need BIOS files that are not supplied to start certain games, just makes stuff pointlessly complicated and the next Emulator starts the same ROM without bitching.
The nice thing is that i can tell LaunchBox which Emulator to use for which ROM, but at some point i would like to be confident when i click on one of the thousands of Icons in LaunchBox that the game will actually start instead of it being always a gamble.

...
i also started a little bit of rom hacking (romhacking.net), like taking the PAL Super Probotector SNES ROM (a.k.a Contra III) and changing it to NTSC for 60FPS and re-enabling the cheats that the JAP version of Contra III originally had.
Now i got bunny eared robots and 30 lives to actually play this game the way i want.
The 50FPS PAL versions feel a lot more sluggish in direct comparison.
Thankfully there are few games like Super Probotector with changes worth keeping in the PAL versions, so i default to the NTSC versions most of the time.

oh, and maybe i should mention the PC i'm playing on, so here is the build-log -> https://imgur.com/a/FBDEo

i'm also thinking about building a retro PC for some Win9x gaming with some old parts (Voodoo3 2000, Creative Audigy 2ZS) i still got sitting around, but i kinda got stuck on this whole Emulation thing the past few weeks.
So the 3Dfx / EAX capable Win9x build with CRT Monitor will have to wait a bit longer.

You're welcome. I'd have added more but, as you may have noticed, I hit the comment character limit.

By the way, the 360 dongle doesn't cost as much as the steam controller. I have this one, it's $14 atm.

If you do decide on the steam controller, Amazon has it with the carry case for the same price as they have the controller by itself. Here.

Also, adding on about the controller, at this point I've had two other people (who don't play a lot of games) try the controller and they picked it up easily. It seems like the biggest issue people have is unlearning other controllers, rather than learning the new one.

It's also possible that part of it is the fact that trackball emulation is the best way (imo) to control the camera via the controller. One of the two people, the one who picked it up easier, regularly uses a trackball to play games already and was used to the way it responded. In fact, I used a trackball to play games for a long time as well. Maybe that's part of why some people learn to use it easier than others. I'm not sure, I'm rambling anyway. The point is that it takes a bit of effort to unlearn how you play with other controllers.

I'd love to know what you decide though. The steam controller is superior, in my opinion, except for the lack of a physical d-pad. That's just about the only downside and I can make do with that since I don't play a lot of platformers and the radial menus make waaaay better quick selects.

u/BSCA · 1 pointr/skyrim

Well, I should have done my research a little better. I'm not very happy with my game pad. I did pay $15 but since then the price increased to $18. https://www.amazon.com/Matricom-Wireless-Rechargeable-Bluetooth-Compatible/dp/B015YF3YZ8

This game pad is probably better suited for Android. I had to use special software to use it in morrowind.. And even now, button presses do two different things. So I don't recommend it.

I have a 360 controller that works well but requires a receiver plugged in. The Xbox one controller works perfectly with Bluetooth and w10.. It costs a bit more. I also would love a $50 steam controller because it has mouse emulation and is specially suited and built for PC games. Xpadder and an Xbox controller can probably do mouse emulation also. If you need help with configuration let me know. I use some weird program for my cheap gamepad. And it's not enough, I need to fix it more.

I ordered my friend a $20 bluetooth keyboard with trackpad. He's going to use a w10 tablet as a htpc and I think this is perfect for it. Just waiting on micro HDMI cable.

A side use.. I want to practice and learn coding. I had a keyboard case that fits 7/8 inch tablets and plugs right in to micro USB. When I find it, I will have this tablet set up like a laptop to learn coding.

u/OwThatHertz · 1 pointr/GearVR

Fair enough. To answer your original question, the S8+ is technically compatible with the 2016 Gear VR but there are some slight fitment issues. The general consensus is that the 1027 2017 version fits and works better, so make sure you can find the model number of the Gear VR and that it matches the 2017 version.

Regarding cellular vs. non-cellular, I use a 2016 version with a carrier-locked Galaxy S7 edge that has the SIM pulled and it only uses WIFI. It works fine. I can't speak to the specific demo model you're talking about as I haven't used it, but it sounds like it should work. If the only difference is that the cellular radio doesn't work, but all other functionality (including Bluetooth and WIFI and the Oculus software) works, you should be fine.

Note that Bluetooth and WIFI being functional will be important. WIFI for downloads and Bluetooth for the remote and for controllers. It's possible that one or both of these will also have been disabled in the demo, so I'd confirm with the seller that both work before proceeding. That said, I've seen store demos that had functional Bluetooth and I'm not sure if it's a separate radio or not. I think it is, because I can put my phone into Airplane mode (disables all radios) and then enable Bluetooth and WIFI while Airplane Mode is still active.
However, given that we're in different markets, I'd still ask the seller first.

For controllers, I recommend the Steelseries Stratus XL or, even better, an Xbox 360 wireless controller. Note that the current version of the Xbox Elite Controller is not bluetooth (uses a dongle) so will not work with Android, so stick with the non-Elite for now. There's supposedly a new version of the Elite controller about to be released that uses Bluetooth instead, but I haven't seen any confirmation on release date as yet.

Good luck!

Edit: typo.

Definitely check out the Gamesir Wireless Controller for ₹2k

I know 2k may seem pricy but it’s worth it IMO. 100% recommended. Look it up.

https://www.amazon.in/Gamesir-Wireless-Controller-Android-Black/dp/B019H5II8Y?tag=googinhydr18418-21&tag=googinkenshoo-21&ascsubtag=8b027a83-4b81-4248-b793-0f2ab8ca3dce

Works with PC/PS3/Android/iOS

The nice thing is that it has the XBox’s buttons, so if a game with Xinput tells you “press X” you know to press X on your gamepad, which is useful for fighting games.

Same can’t be said about the PS3/PS4 gamepads which have shape buttons. If a game tells you to press X, you’ll have to press “▣” on your gamepad. That can get annoying.

It’s really good and feels like the PS4 controller (I’ve used a PS4 gamepad a few times).

but If you don’t want to spend 2k you can check out the wireless Redgear one for 1.3k. I haven’t tried this but it has good reviews and is a best seller. The [cheaper] wired model is unavailable.

Sorry if you wanted some super cheap get-the-job-done controllers. I’ve always presumed super cheap ones were a waste of money so I never bothered with them.

u/5H4D0W_5P3C7R3 · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Sorry for the long post, but the original text post I made got deleted by the automoderator and I was told to post this here. I'm looking for a controller for PC gaming. I would prefer for it to have both wired and wireless capabilities (since I sometimes game on a monitor and other times on a big TV, and in the former scenario I'd prefer the minimal input lag of hard wiring, while in the latter case I'd prefer to sit further away and not deal with the hassle of another long wire), but neither of these is a must. Either/or is fine if necessary. Problem is, though, that I'm extremely picky about my controllers. Here's all the shit I want, in descending order of importance:

u/SillyArkun · 2 pointsr/EmulationOnAndroid

I can't speak for the Beboncool, but the MOGA Hero Power is a bit meh with the twin sticks and the triggers (you get what you pay for). MOGAs are great though in that they're generally compatible with everything.

Additional side commentary fluff:
Something to consider - you can get a nicer controller if you take out a few options - if you don't need a clip, you're not going to be on the move and you have a phone stand, you could just get a normal bluetooth controller.
This controller I found was pretty good (although a bit annoying since my phone thought it was a keyboard):
https://www.amazon.com/Matricom-Wireless-Rechargeable-Bluetooth-Compatible/dp/B015YF3YZ8
If you do decide on that though, keep in mind the thumbsticks are a lot better than the options you listed, but the dpad is garbage.

I would also say look into an OTG controller, but I researched your phone and it doesn't support it. Right now I use a wired iBuffalo USB controller and I love it.

u/Jammerware · 1 pointr/DarkSouls2

I've never connected a PS3 controller to my PC, but I'm positive that it's possible and nearly positive that it's possible to do so in a stable fashion :) This might help, but I've never used it. Reviews look pretty good though.

u/tomkatt · 4 pointsr/EmulationOnAndroid

I can't see a problem with it. I dunno anything about that controller but 8BitDo makes good stuff so it's probably a good choice. If you want something nice and compact, the NES30 Pro is also a good one.

Alternately if you want a controller that can hold your phone, the Ipega PG-9055 is a good bet as well.

If you're looking for controller info, check out our wiki on the sidebar as well. There's a ton of controller reviews available.

u/qwertylerqw · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I’ve never heard of that controller but 8BitDo is good for a controller with a good d-pad. I would recommend waiting for the SN30 Pro+ to come out because it’ll be much more comfortable than the current SN30 Pro

I have the wired SN30 Pro and it’s d-pad is fantastic. It’s a nice cheaper option

You can also use 8BitDo’s adapter or the MayFlash adapter to use a DS4 controller on the Switch if you already have one

u/samvest · 2 pointsr/AndroidGaming

Heroes Evolved has partial controller support. It works best with a telescopic controller like the Fyldigi Wee so you can still reach the screen with your thumbs when needed. Also the Wee comes with access to a touch mapping app developed by the manufacturer that has preset mappings for games like Arena of Valor. Ymmv, I don't really play AoV on mobile but I do have hundreds of games of Heroes Evolved using a controller (some champions work better than others).

1. I use the built in touchpad for everything except games that require a bluetooth controller. The touch pad is very responsive and functions perfectly. I bought this and it works well with games that require it.

2. My favorite games are Smash Hit, Gunjack, Anshar Wars 2, Esper 2, Oculus Arcade (Sonic the Hedgehog), and Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. All these games have exceptionally high replay value. I have been playing Smash Hit everyday before work. The game is free and it helps wake me up.

The only game I didn't like was Mortal Blitz VR. I wish I hadn't bought it.

3. I use the Oculus video app for the "Void Theater" setting so that I can watch content I put on my phone while laying down. I use Samsungs MilkVR for the 360 3D porn I put on my phone. I also use the Vrideo app for random awesome 360 3d videos. I like this app because I can download the videos.

u/Native411 · 19 pointsr/gaming

Its this one.

GameSir G3s - an fyi this is a Canadian link - this is Green but I have the black one which looks sold out and being resold for much higher than retail. The App I use supports other gamepads too.

I dug up the link for the US one for those not in the Kingdom of Canada.

It does ship with a phone holder to mount it ontop so just make sure yours fits before you consider buying.

The App is Matsu player and it does N64,PS1, All gameboy models, Snes, Nes and I think a few others. Ive tried them all and they run pretty good.

Free one has ads but after I used it for a bit of time and saw how good it ran I sprang for the full version. To each their own but I knew I'd get enough time out of it to warrant the upgrade and go ad-less.

u/WireJunky42 · 13 pointsr/RetroPie

Raspberry Pi 3 comes with built in WiFi and built in Bluetooth. You can get a nice Bluetooth controller from Amazon for ~$36USD. I have two of these as well as a wired USB retro SNES controller.

You can visit Retropie's website and download a working image as well as get very detailed instructions on how to get it up and running. This is how I got my first one set up and had it up and running in under an hour. They really do have some great documentation. For this you will need Win32 Disk Imager. It allows you to write an operation system image file to a SD card. Sounds more complicated that it really is. Download the image, run disk imager, pick the image you want to write, pick the SD card you want to write to, and press the Write button. When it is done, pop it in the pi and power it up. Boom, you now have a working raspberry pi system.

Know and understand how to SSH into your Raspberry Pi. For Windows I recommend downloading WinSCP. SSH can be used to update the OS, upgrade the firmware, and push ROM files to the pi. Adafruit also has an amazing line of tutorials to help you get up to speed.

Use MonoPrice for your cables and such. They are so much cheaper that big box stores.

The greatest thing about the Raspberry Pi is that if you make a mistake, you can easily re-apply the image to your SD card and start over. When I was first getting started I ended up doing this a lot. I learned a lot from my mistakes and learned to search Google/YouTube to see how somebody else solved the problems.

Lastly, I found this incredible group on Facebook that has posts of builds as well as tips and tricks to getting your setup working.

Hope this helps. Enjoy getting into the world of Raspberry Pi. I know I have, I now have three at home all doing different things.

u/BrandonThe · 2 pointsr/Minecraft

This is the one I have. I like it a little too much haha. It's a bit pricey but it's a solid build and feels like an xbox controller. It definitely makes minecraft way more fun and easy to control on the ipad. I wish there were more games to use it with but then I would get nothing done

This is the best one. The companion app that it uses allows remapping the controls to touchscreen inputs. A bit pricey but hands down the best controller.

Has some cons, using cases with it is a snug fit. I use the spigen case and it just barely fits. Set up is also a bit tedious but after you have it set up, you do not have to do it again.

Pros are good though, Can even turn off your phone and it will still keep the settings. Unlike that octopus app. Also you have to set the game up in the app for the first time. After initial setup you can just launch the game directly from the game app and not the controller app. Also works with Google play supported games. Although fortnite might not be supported but i haven't tried it so i cannot confirm.

Want to take it a step further? Use this usbc to hdmi cable to mirror your phone to a tv, monitor or projector. It also has a usb c power input that supports fast charging.

And in case you are wondering i use a RP1

The Flydigi Wee 2 makes mention of that fact that it supports phones up to 6.3 inches in length. Given that the Note 9 is 6.37 inches, it sounds like it may work. I don't own a Note 9 (nor the Wee 2) so I can't test it, but it may be worth looking into.

For what it's worth, I do own the Flydigi Wee (the original one) and I love that thing. It's the best Android controller I've ever bought, hands down. I've had probably 6 or 7 different ones throughout my lifetime and the Wee was the last one I bought because it does everything I want it to.

u/JasperSlade · 2 pointsr/RetroPie

I picked up 2 of these:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EO5QPN2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I was looking exclusively for bluetooth controllers because I didn't want to mess with cables at all. These were on sale for $9.99 when I purchased them, but they're obviously worth more. They feel sturdy & well built. Their battery life is pretty good too.
These controllers have different "modes", depending on whether you're connecting it to an Apple or Android device. Holding the "B" button while powering on will allow the Pi to see it.

I'm duplicating my setup for my younger brothers and a few friends, I'll be purchasing 2 of these controllers for each of those builds for sure.

u/sandman53 · 1 pointr/emulation

I never liked the stiff feel of the x1 dpad, and the 360 controller dpad really sucks. I also tried the logitech controller and didn't like their triggers. I also did not like the fact that the F710 dropped its signal all the damn time. The steam controller looks interesting, but I didn't feel like messing around with that.

http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Wireless-Controller-Smartphone-Playstation-3/dp/B019H5II8Y

This is the one I came across. Despite being from one of those chinese knockoff companies the controller itself is built quite well. It has a nice dpad, and the buttons and triggers all feel good. I also like the feel of the PS4 controller. The battery life on it is also pretty damn good and I can recharge it with a usb cable.

I may try the steam controller at some point, but I got two of these right now, and im very happy with them.

u/Goins2754 · 1 pointr/SF4

Pad recommendations?

I've tried the MadCatz fight pad when I was on PS3 and didn't really like the D-pad. I tried the XBox 360 Versus controller now that I'm on PC and I don't like the joystick on that one, either. I tried the Logitech F310, but I prefer having all 6 face buttons.

The only pad I really like is the Sabrent 12-button controller, but man is the construction on that thing trash! I've gone through two of them in about two months! I can't buy a controller every month. LOL.

I'm looking for a good 6-face button controller for PC. Any help would be much appreciated.

u/KairoPlays · 5 pointsr/nintendo

I'm just gonna push a shameless plug for 8BitDo's Nintendo-inspired controllers. They're all fantastic for what they are and do a great job as controllers for both mobile and PC. They are the perfect thing for emulation. I love my NES30 Pro for Project M. Works great. However, the one problem with it is that starting it up is a pain sometimes. You'll have to look up the control manual a couple times before you memorize how to use it.

Two variations are available for the pro version. The pro has four face buttons, d pad, 4 shoulder buttons (all digital) and 2 analog sticks. NES30 Pro is my favorite, though they have a Famicom30 Pro as well. The FC30 uses real brushed metal.

Edit: They have other more simple controllers too that function just like an SNES controller in all kinds of shapes and sizes.

u/smallbritishboy · 1 pointr/AndroidGaming

Firstly, thank you so much for the detailed response. I knew nothing about this stuff so this is insanely helpful! I just have two questions if that's okay:

You mentioned that the controllers will work with emulators on Android no problem which is good to hear since that's what I'm getting it for, but I'm wondering how exactly they work. The emulator programs I've used don't seem very advanced and they don't have a lot of options. Maybe if you can just tell me what you had to do to get your own controllers working that'd be great

Also this one that you showed me: https://www.amazon.com/Bounabay-Wireless-Telescopic-Bluetooth-Controller/dp/B06XKSNCTM/ looks nice and portable and exactly what I'm looking for, but what exactly is the USB stick in the picture for?

Thanks again for all the help!

I have a Steam Controller and an Xbox 360 controller. My girlfriend and I played though Lego Marvel Superheroes, the Lego Harry Potters and some of Jurassic World with two different controllers. So if you want to mix and match, you're totally able to.

If you have any controllers laying around, see if you can find an adapter for them.

u/alienangel2 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Yeah that used to drive me nuts with MIJ - it was fine wired, but if I'm using a controller I'm probably playing from couch with the game displayed on the TV so I want bluetooth - and MIJ would need to be re-paired more often than not for BT to work. SCP is a lot better.

According to earlier reddit posts http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DSFW5MA works for BT pretty much plug-n-play and supports multiple controllers through the same connection. I'm waiting for mine to arrive to see if it's actually better than SCP or not.

Do you get a free monitor with any other entertainment device? You can buy a monitor on craigslist for $15-$30

Here's the RPi for $60 with all accessories needed

Here's the monitor on craigslist near my hometown

And here's the controller

Comes out to a sweet $90, comes with every connector you need and the monitor. (I'd be willing to bet you could find a keyboard/mouse combo on special for $10 to make this a real computer)

So yeah, it's probably the UK being expensive.

(Edit: Just saw that my $20 monitor doesn't have an hdmi input. Looks like you'll have to spend $106 to get the controller, monitor, computer, hookups, and KB+Mouse... oh well, pack it up)

This one

Is awesome. Super cheap and works great. I got it on sale for 17 and it works awesome. It's on sale for 22 now.

u/Deadly_Fire_Trap · 1 pointr/PlaystationClassic

Okay so what you're asking for is very possible. Start the game you want to map controls for, open retroarch quick menu, go to input and change the dpad directions with the appropriate stick directions for player 1. However, this will cause issues for certain games. So, I would like to propose an affordable yet reliable alternative:

8Bitdo SN30 Pro USB Gamepad for Nintendo Switch, Windows, Raspberry Pi (SN Edition) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R481CVY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XCW2DbRMD143Z

For $25 you can get this controller that has all the functions a PS4 controller has and works perfectly with retroarch. Its detected as an Xbox 360 controller which maps everything correctly for you. I own several 8bitdo products including the wired controller and the build quality is fantastic. Also the cord length is 6ft which is pretty standard.

u/mynameisntjeffrey · 4 pointsr/GearVR

I can confirm that that specific moga controller will not work with mincraft, or any vr games. It has a really stupid way to connect, and it just feels uncomfortable. Minecraft uses all the buttons on a normal sized controller, so you're really going to need to get one. I bought a cheap 20 dollar one that has a ok build quality but has enough buttons to actually play the game. The analog sticks are pretty good but the triggers are simply one button press and the d-pad is pretty awful. But it works great regardless.

Edit: here's the one I bought.

u/MyCatEdwin · 2 pointsr/GameDeals

While gmessad's recommendation is great, I would say the Steam Controller is a super solid choice too. If you can wait a bit, GameStop and Amazon have deals on them pretty often. If you have basically any existing PC gamepads you'll be fine while you wait.

If you don't mind used (my controller has been indestructible the year and a half I've had it), Amazon has a used one with Prime for $35 https://www.amazon.com/Steam-Controller-SteamOS/dp/B016KBVBCS?th=1

u/MrAureliusR · 1 pointr/AndroidGaming

I've been playing a lot more Android games now that I've upgraded to a Pixel 2 XL. I love this phone. I have very big hands (I'm 6'7"... generally most things are too small for me) and even when I customise the button layout for, say, My Boy! or My Old Boy! I still find my hands getting cramped after a while.

I have been looking at controllers that allow phones to clip on, and there's quite a few on Amazon Canada that look good. I am leaning towards the GameSir G3s with included bracket, GameSir T1s (slightly more expensive for some reason?) or the "Mad Giga". I also was considering the Bonusis STK7003 though it's more expensive and looks like it might be flimsier. Those are all generally within my budget -- $30-45ish.

When I used my Vita a lot, I had to buy a handgrip attachment for it, and even then I would still get hand cramps. It's very difficult to tell from the pictures which of these is the largest. As reference, I really like the size of the Steam Controller, which I've used a lot, and PS3 controllers are good for decent lengths of time as well (though I do eventually cramp up with those as well).

In any case, any recommendations or information about which of these controller types are good for large hands would be greatly appreciated! I could potentially just buy a controller-grip shaped case, but I think I'd prefer to actually have a full size controller.

[GameSir G4s Bluetooth Wireless Gaming Controller for Android/Windows/VR] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HNXGKT6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_UbeTzbM593AC0)

I LOVE this controller. It's so nice. It has Bluetooth and a wireless USB receiver for PC gaming. Works really nice for emulators and for the Gear VR too. The phone cradle is super secure and fits the Note 8. Totally recommended.

u/sidsixseven · 5 pointsr/OverwatchUniversity

I don't know if this is of interest to you, but I play on PC with Mouse + PS3 Move Navigation controller. There are a couple of ways to get the controller to work but the easiest is to simply buy the Mayflash PS3 to USB adapter.

The Move controller is one handed, so you hold it in your off hand that would normally be placed on the WASD keys. For me, it's mainly a comfort thing.

u/LinkedDesigns · 1 pointr/EmulationOnAndroid

The Daqi M1 is a better value, but I would not say it's a better controller. I just picked up a M1 to compare to my Wee 2. The build quality is fine. The d-pad on the Wee 2 is better than the M1, the pivot is a little bit more noticeable which helps with responsiveness. The Wee 2 is $50 shipped from Amazon so it's not $100+.

If you want something closer to an Xbox/PS3, the only choice you have is to get one of those traditional controllers with a phone clip. It's a bit top heavy and it might interfere with your volume/power buttons.

Flydigi does sell an accessory to solve the USB-C port being covered. They don't have a solution for headphone jack however. It'll probably work with the Daqi M1 too.

Gamevice does sell a controller that provides a headphone jack and power pass-through. It even has vents to redirect side-firing speakers to face you. However, it's a bit bulky and it hasn't been tested to work on a Poco F1.

for a case, I had a zalmand t5 because it was on sale, but a case is a case is a case, so simply look at the form factor of your motherboard (mini-ITX, Micro-ATX, or ATX) and find a case you think looks good and will fit your motherboard.

for a GPU get a r7 360 or commit to PC gaming, sell your console and spend 150-200$ on a r9 380 or 380x which will let you run 1440p monitors.

I highly, highly recommend John's SNES emulator. He made NES and GBA ones as well. I purchased all of them and have used each of them thoroughly. They may cost a few dollars but the way I see it I'm gaining access to thousands of games for less than the price of a book. They all support controllers and have heavily modifiable virtual interfaces and screen aspect ratios. If you are interested in a gamepad I was recently eyeing this one. Most likely going to purchase it on Christmas to test it out.

u/AedandoRL · 5 pointsr/EmulationOnAndroid

The form factor of the iPega PG-9033 is nice, but the issue with that gamepad design is that it is incredibly top-heavy with modern smartphones and will put discomfort on your wrists while playing.

I stopped using my Moga Hero Power for that reason alone, as when I made the transition from my S3 Mini to my S8, it was incredibly uncomfortable to use after 30 minutes of play.

If you want to stick with a universal iPega controller, I would recommend the iPega PG-9055 ("Red Spider").

It pretty much fits any phone and even 7" tablets because it uses fasteners to grip your phone, rather than a telescopic arm.

If your phone is on the smaller side (i.e. 5"-5.75") and you use a thin TPU/rubber case, the "Wee" gamepad is probably the highest quality one money can buy. It's an exact copy of the PS Vita's design, except with the left thumbstick and d-pad inversed. All of the buttons are clicky microswitches like the PS Vita, rather than being membrane+contact like everything else. The L2 and R2 triggers aren't analog, but they basically act as a second set of bumpers (and have the same clicky microswitches).

u/ftpguy · 2 pointsr/ipad

Not OP but it’s the SteelSeries Nimbus Bluetooth Mobile Gaming Controller - Iphone, iPad, Apple TV - 40+ Hour Battery Life - Mfi Certified - Supports Fortnite Mobile https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AZC3III/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_eOVRDbJZTM4NH

I have it, it’s a nice controller but honestly? Just get a PS4 or Xbone controller. My biggest complaint with the Nimbus is the L3 and R3 buttons do not work on it. They press in, but nothing happens. I do not believe there is an actual switch there unfortunately. This makes remote PS4 play difficult for some games that use those buttons.

Otherwise if that is not a deal breaker for you it’s a fine controller. Good build quality, battery life, responsive, and just works out of the box with iOS.

After an initial struggle getting it set up and working properly, I gotta say I'm really happy with the Matricom XYBA. Can be had from Amazon for $22. Given the price, I'm pleasantly surprised by the build quality. It's solid, got some weight to it, and while I've only had mine for a few weeks weeks so far the buttons and analog sticks feel just like they did when it was brand new.

The initial struggle setting it up with RetroPie came down to finding this review on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/review/B01EO5QPN2/R2B6DAP4EI7TQG/ref=cm_cr_dp_mb_rvw_1

After following those steps and customizing gamepad.cfg accordingly, everything has been working great. Once paired, it will reconnect in a few seconds from powering up. And this is all with the on-board Bluetooth on the RPi 3 by the way. At under $25 per controller, you can afford to get a decent four-player setup.

> I'm no expert but I always thought prices paid for things at the national level depended on many political factors like taxes, trade deals, and the relative strength of a nation's currency?

Absolutely. That's why I expect to pay 5 - 20% more for an item in Canada, after exchange rate. However the Steam Controller was selling for ~$130 on amazon.ca, if I remember right.

edit: OK, it's down to just under $100 if you add in the import fees. When I was checking the price obsessively for months it was more like $130 but that was well over a year ago now, eventually I gave up and was waiting for it to come to Steam in Canada. I happened to check my Wishlist yesterday and it still said "Coming Soon!" :/

u/brain_56 · 1 pointr/darksouls

Yeah, I'd really recommend wireless. The XBOX 360 controller comes with a really long wire, and since I play on a laptop, I play sometimes on the couch or on the floor or just in front of the laptop. This lead to some wear and tear of the wire. And it was a hassle to fold it every time! So I'd recommend wireless if you're like me.

The Steam controller's $49.99 on Amazon.

Not true. This guy's proves it = https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZR-a35sxLg

>I'd have to buy a desk and shit to shove the monitor and keyboard and all that bollocks on

Well, if you want to sit on your couch and just skip using a keyboard you can do that...

Also how fucking big do you think a PC has to be? Like.. Seriously how big? Because you are so full off yourself. Also, you still need to buy a controller for your console (I know one comes with) but you can literally buy a keyboard and mouse for 5$

Last time I checked you still need to buy a TV to use it for your console. So why are you telling me that a PC needs a monitor but a console doesnt need a TV?

Here let's do some comparisons.

400$ PS4. http://www.gamestop.com/ps4/consoles/playstation-4-system/109942

14.99$ TV unit (I took the absolute cheapest one...) http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50243299/

Sofa or sitting on the floor? Alright here you go. A chair 29.99$ (still, cheapest one I could find) http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10289128/

You want some games? Hm, let's take some games that are new and are on both PC and PS4. Let's say 4 games.

Dying Light 59.99$ http://www.gamestop.com/ps4/games/dying-light/111372

GTA 5 59.99$ http://www.gamestop.com/ps4/games/grand-theft-auto-v/115462

Evolve 59.99$ http://www.gamestop.com/ps4/games/evolve/113546

Far Cry 4 59.99$ http://www.gamestop.com/ps4/games/far-cry-4/115109

Do you want to play with a buddy? Another controller. 53.33$

http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Wireless-Controller-PlayStation-Black-4/dp/B00BGA9X9W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420739574&sr=8-1&keywords=playstation+4+controller

And lastly. A TV that is in 1080p 156.59$ (the cheapest one I could find that was NEW. NO Used ones or refurbished!) http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00EAY1FGA/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Total price 894.86$

Also, do you want to play online? 1 month is 9.99$, 3months is 17.99$ and 12months is 49.99$

Now, let's do our 350$ PC. So PC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZR-a35sxLg

Do you want to use it on a TV unit or on a desk? You choose. (you could technically do this on the console too but a desk is more expensive.) Let's go with desk for your convinience so 79.99$

Same here, couch or a chair? I'll go with a chair 19.99$ http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79046260/

And now on games.

So, since Dying Light hasnt released the price for the american price I'll pick the european price and change it to the american currency (This will make it more expensive than usually) EU price: 49.99€ converted to dollars 59.07$ http://store.steampowered.com/app/239140/

Since steam has not given out a price of GTA V on steam I'll pick it from G2play.net (it will most likely be sold for 49.99$) but here you go. 55.64$ http://www.g2play.net/category/3077/grand-theft-auto-v-steam-key/

LoL, I am actually kind of happy right now, it's not that usual that europeans get the game cheaper than americans do but we do on Evolve, anyway. Here you go 59.99$ http://store.steampowered.com/app/273350/

Far Cry 4 59.99$ http://store.steampowered.com/app/273350/

Do you want to play with a friend? A controller. I couldnt be bothered looking for a cheaper one. Here you go 9.99$ http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Twelve-Button-Game-Controller-USB-GAMEPAD/dp/B00AEWTSWU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1420741023&sr=8-5&keywords=pc+controller

And lastly, A TV/Monitor 156.59$ http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00EAY1FGA/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Total: 851,25$

Now, yes. It is very close but my argument will always stand, it will be cheaper on steam. With steam sales, humble bundles (https://www.humblebundle.com/ seriously it's 4 games for 1$... Altho I never pay below average because I am not a scumbag, but still) and websites like G2play.net you will ALWAYS find games that are cheaper, for an example here you go with Far Cry 4 for 34.64$ http://www.g2play.net/category/11641/far-cry-4-uplay-key/

I haven't used it enough to give it a complete verdict. I can say that it connected easily, has stayed connected, and I played through the first world of Banjo Kazooie, and took gold in a Mario Kart 64 GP. 150cc of course. Yes I took the shortcut on Wario Stadium.

The led button lights are too bright in my opinion, so I usually turn them off. There are brightness levels though.

It's not perfect, but I like it a lot. Just wish I had more time to use it. I'm tempted to try something from 8bitDo just because they look cool and make me nostalgic.

I can get round trip tickets to Korea, buy some stuff for 6,000 yen, and still save some money because they want 30,000+ for the same exact thing in Japan.

Japan has huge import tariffs. Usually ~8% import, 8% consumption, and 5% landing tax (aka processing/inspection fee) for anything over 10,000 yen.

Then if you're importing it for personal use, another 8% sales tax.

Some goods, like leather shoes, have a 30% import fee.

I can buy a $500 USD retail part, listed wholesale value (according to customs office) of $300. By the time it lands at my front door, I've paid an additional $92 in fee's.

That's why you get this listed for $34 in the USA (on sale, normally $50)

£53.74 ($66.52 USD) in the UK

And ¥ 8,980 ($79.61 USD) in Japan

You can look at lots of imported products and compare the costs local to you all day.

I have a G3, a slightly older version of this controller and the Bobo Z4. It's an AMAZING setup, given what it is. QVR (Quake VR) is one of the coolest things you can do with it, since it's a fully fledged actual game that you can play. Don't waste your time with those piddly small controllers. They are all pretty much garbage.

u/scswift · 3 pointsr/Vive

Valve is selling their Steam controllers for $50:
http://www.amazon.com/Steam-Controller-SteamOS/dp/B016KBVBCS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1452130049&sr=8-4&keywords=controller

Presumably they're making money on those and have marked the price up by 2x as is typical with hardware, and the Vive controllers are no more complex, so if they don't mark them up, the controllers should add only $50 to the cost of the final product.

At this point, if they could keep the price below $550 I think they'd have a winner. The Rift is $600 without controllers, and from what I can tell, without a second base station for room scale VR. And the consumer Vive will have headphones and a mic in addition to the front facing camera to allow you to safely move about your room.

All I know for sure is that their headset should be cheaper to manufacture. Whether the other stuff adds up to bring the price up to Oculus levels, or whether Oculus really did subsidize the hardware to the extreme I couldn't say for sure.

Also you're not the only engineer around here. :)

There are controllers out now that turn your phone onto a Switch-like handheld.

https://www.amazon.com/Flydigi-Bluetooth-Controller-Telescopic-Connecting/dp/B07DJ85NF3

The cool thing is you can also use it to play emulators if your phone is capable.

They are pretty inexpensive as well.

u/AustinAuranymph · 1 pointr/OculusGo

Pretty much everyone recommends the SteelSeries Stratus. It's a very well made Bluetooth controller and it's about $10 cheaper than the Xbox One S controller. Personally I wouldn't spend less than $30 on a controller. Quality is important, trust me.

u/recursivethought · 1 pointr/gadgets

ah sorry. I have this.

I have 2 complaints. I needed to take my last phone (LGG2, not a huge phone) out of its case (Otterbox commuter-size) to fit it. The toher issue is the weight distribution at a comfortable 45deg angle makes it back-heavy. Sitting position isn't ideal for extended periods, may cause wrist discomfort. In bed with knees curled up this wasn't a problem. Other than that this is a great controller, connected to my PC as well.

I have NOT tried this, but I'm considering it. Again, the size of your phone will determine whether this will work for you. Also the shape of the controller isn't modern-style, it's not ergo or anything. I'm wondering if it's overpriced but it might be worth the wrist comfort.

That's all the experience I have. I know I don't like a separate controller for sure, so I just wanted to recommend something with a clamp.

u/henleyregatta · 1 pointr/oneplus

GameSir T1S. Only had it a week, but it's a well-built controller that works on multi-platform, similar in size and function to a PS3 controller, and the built-in clip holds the 3T nice and firmly. Haven't tested any emulators but it works perfectly with GTA:SA.

I bought this one:

SteelSeries Nimbus Wireless Gaming Controller for Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01AZC3III/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_yNiRzbW8ACDWB

Came yesterday. I bought a used one for 30 bucks. Worth it for sure..it looks and feels like an Xbox controller..and there are no R3 and L3 but if you double click on the analog on the screen on your phone it works. I'd recommend buying it..felt really good and is worth the price imo.

Alright. This is gonna be a long comment so stick with me as you read it alright. Don't just scroll through it.

So based on your post, you're looking for a wireless controller with a good D-Pad similar to the ones you would find on a Nintendo Controller (Either the NES or SNES i'm assuming). If that is the case, you have two options. Both the options are based on the PS4 and Xbox One/Elite controllers respectively. With that being said, let me show you the controllers.

The first one is the GameSir G3s Bluetooth Controller. This controller is based on the PS4 controller, especially considering the triggers on the controllers based on what everyone says and my experience with the controller. This controller has built-in vibration feedback (spoiler alert: this function only works on PC and PS3). So this controller has a separate bracket for holding an average sized phone, turbo fire buttons, Bluetooth 4.0 as well as micro and mini USB connectivity for PC, PS3, and Android. It also comes with a wireless USB dongle as well (similar to the DJ Hero wireless connector or any wireless connector for a mouse and keyboard). This controller has a battery life of 18 hours as well.

The second option is the GameSir G4s Bluetooth Controller. Unlike the G3s, this controller is based on the Xbox One/Elite Controller as aforementioned earlier, especially considering the design of the controller itself. Also, the bracket is built inside the controller itself for the phone for less clutter. However, the clear and turbo buttons are placed inside where the bracket is located. If you look at some unboxing videos of it, you'll see what I mean. Another thing to note is that it has 10 hours of battery life instead of the G3s' 18 hour battery life. Other than that, it's the same thing as the G3s controller (Bluetooth 4.0, Wireless USB Dongle, Controller Vibrations, .etc).

There is a third option for your situation if you're on a budget, and that is the GameSir G3s WIRED Controller and the GameSir G3s WIRELESS Controller. Even though this is the cheapest option and is still compatible with Android, PC, and PS3, it doesn't come with a phone bracket. HOWEVER, I wouldn't get this because to order a phone bracket, you're gonna have to wait 2 weeks for a 8 to 10 dollar bracket for the controller if you're gonna buy one off Ebay because it ships from China. I don't know about shipping with the controller bracket off of Amazon, which costs 13 dollars, but I'm going to assume that it's going to take the same amount of time if you were to order it off of Ebay. With that being said, by the time you were to pay for the bracket with the Wired or USB Dongle Controller, you would've paid the same amount of money you would for the Bluetooth G3s Controller.

Too Fucking Long; Didn't Fucking Read: Either get the GameSir G3s Bluetooth Controller or the GameSir G4s Bluetooth Controller

u/smacksaw · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

That's a pretty good price, but I have to wonder if it's really any better than the GameSir clones that are that $15-$20.

The wireless one is $30 normally

https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Wireless-Controller-Smartphone-playstation-3/dp/B019H5II8Y/

And there's a clone for $22

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRGSJCO/

So I dunno. I think for me there's a point where a controller should have PS4 or XB1 compatibility as well, just in case. If not, go cheap.

It only supports version 2 of the controller. I never found any work around. Just went ahead and purchased a controller that was compatible. Not a great digital pad but the analog is pretty good. u/undue-influence · 1 pointr/GearVR

I bought this controller. It works really well and I'm happy with it. I've not had any problems. There are probably many others that are just as good and cost less (or more even).

I also got a usb battery back to power the headset while playing. I also plug in ear buds for sound.

I've not really found a game I really enjoy yet, but I've not played with it all that much. Depending on the games you play, you might want to sit on a chair that swivels.

u/gurnec · 2 pointsr/Steam_Link

I'm using a DS3 controller along with this Bluetooth adapter.

The adapter has a switch to choose between one of two modes.

In Xinput mode, the adapter supports a single DS3 controller and works out-of-the-box (w/o VirtualHere). I've never run into any problems in this mode.

In Direct Input mode, the adapter supports up to 4 controllers, but requires VirtualHere. Although I also haven't run into any problems in this mode either, I haven't tested it very much.

One thing you may want to add is some info regarding Ethernet-over-powerline which can be a great alternative to Wi-Fi (when hardwired Ethernet isn't an option). The current standard is called HomePlug AV2 MIMO with a claimed theoretical speed of 2000Mbps - this is what to look for if you're buying a new adapter.

There are two AV2 MIMO chipset manufacturers (that I'm aware of), Broadcom and Qualcomm. Broadcom-based AV2 adapters tend to outperform Qualcomm (according to this review), but the adapter manufacturers don't usually tell you which chipset they use. These two adapters are Broadcom-based. The first has a built-in AC filter so you can plug additional stuff into it w/o affecting the speed, the second is cheaper but has no filter (but a 10 foot extension cord makes a pretty effective filter).

Finally, in my own experience, I've found AMD hardware encoding to be much more susceptible to dropped packets and jitter versus software encoding. If your network circumstances aren't ideal and you're getting dropped frames, try software encoding.

The Pokken controller is fantastic for playing, but not for building. The lack of joystick makes using the cursor impossible.

Rather then that snes looking one, Id go for a 8bitdo device.

Better build quality, actual customer support for any issues, and they here is a bunch of colors on the horizon, plus a whole line of controllers with grips. but those aren't out yet.

I'd love that if it fit other phones.

EDIT: Found this though it looks fairly cheap: https://www.amazon.com/Bounabay-Wireless-Telescopic-Bluetooth-Controller/dp/B06XKSNCTM/

EDIT 2: So I just got that controller, mini review:

It is very cheap, the joysticks, the d-pad, the buttons, are just mediocre. The biggest problem over-all is the right joystick is in an absolutely awful location, you cannot comfortably use the buttons without rubbing against it. The only positive is it is more comfortable to hold than the top-mount you often see, just as long as you don't use the buttons. Overall would not recommend.

u/MrPG8 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I had a PS4 before and I liked the layout better than the xbox ones. The battery life is not very good on the PS4 controller and the ingame icons didn't match the ones on the controller (plus you need a bluetooth receiver or a cable to connect it to your PC).
I ended up buying this:
amazon link
Which works really well (you just plug it in and works), has PS4 like layout but with xbox button icons, the battery life is much better (so is the range) and it is cheaper!

u/Koadic76 · 2 pointsr/GoogleCardboard

From what I have read on this reddit, your best bet is probably a BoboVR z4/Virtoba x5/(insert clone here) which is around $40 on Amazon, as it will support phones with screens up to 6 inches.

It includes a capacitive button for Cardboard apps, but you will still need a controller for other apps that require one. I picked up one of these for $10 on sale ($15 now) and it works pretty well... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EO5QPN2/

u/n64WasAnInsideJob · 1 pointr/linux_gaming

GameSir G3w is an amazing controller.
It's about the same size as a ps4 controller, which feels nicer in my hand than the larger Xbox 360/One gamepads that are all the rage.
The D-pad is top notch (rivaling the Japanese Saturn gamepad).
Analog sticks have just the right amount of distance and deadzone.
the l/r triggers are fantastic.
The ABXY buttons, while closer than most other gamepads, are still easy to hit individually by people with large hands (like myself).
The only complaint could be that the start/select should be swapped with Turbo/Clear, but even that isn't that big a deal in most situations.
Linux/Steam both detect it as a generic Xinput/Xbox360 controller, so it has zero issues working in games.
No noticeable input lag, either.

Plus, it's $22 USD. and definitely hits above it's weight class. It's my favorite controller for linux by a long shot.

u/esmith213 · 2 pointsr/RetroPie

For generic gaming needs I would recommend one of the following priced lowest to highest:

  1. 4 GameSir G3s Controllers (each comes with a 2.4GHz USB Dongle (recommended) & Bluetooth 4.0 (will lag)). $31/ea from amazon - $124 total LINK

  2. 4 Xbox 360 Wireless controllers & 1 Wireless USB Adapter (Controllers $44/ea - USB Adapter $14 - $190 total)
    USB Adapter
    Controllers

  3. 4 PS3 Controllers & (optional) USB Bluetooth Adapter(controllers ~$45/ea - USB BT adapter $13 - ~$193 total)

Obviously there is an advantage to be had if you already own some controllers under one of the suggestions, but aside from that it's personal choice. As a side note, if you get a Pi3 or Pi0w you won't NEED the $13 bluetooth adapter listed for option #3 but it's highly recommended since using the built-in bluetooth seem to have more inherent lag than a USB adapter. It's also worth mentioning that options #1 & #2 will likely have less lag than option #3 even with the $13 adapter since the wireless dongles for options #1 & #2 don't require the Pi to do any of the work in receiving any of the wireless signals and the manufacturers of #1 & #2 claim their wireless dongles are 100% lag free. The Pi will see #1 & #2 as if they are wired USB controllers.

This is not an exhaustive list by any means - just a recommended one. For example, you can use $10 knock off PS3 controllers as well but you need them all to be a specific/identical type and you have to mess with drivers to get them to work right. Also, ANY controller that comes with a USB wireless dongle will work, but quality, number of buttons, response of analog sticks, battery life, etc will vary greatly from product to product.

    Hope this info helps!
u/Chemtox · 2 pointsr/GameDeals

A quick analysis of previous deals tells me that it will last... less than a month, most probably.

As for someone knowing exactly how long, well, I would venture that not even Amazon nor Valve know that, judging by the same data sample. Pretty sure they are using advanced American Economics.

I like the controllers with the phone clips because there's more control with how the screen is angled. I don't like the controllers that attach to the sides of the phone (like a Game Gear). I have a Gamesir G4S. It's quite good in feel. The only issue I have is it randomly disconnects now and then, which isn't too big a deal for a game like FFT.

A lot of people like the 8bitdo variants with a separate clip, but they're smaller than I'd like.

For people whose PCs don't have Bluetooth, who don't want to dedicate their Bluetooth adapter, or who want a simpler solution, I highly recommend the Mayflash Wireless Adapter for Dualshock 3. Just plug it in, use the hardware switch to select either Xinput or Dinput, and play.

My Bluetooth adapter is tied up using my Wii remote for Dolphin and I didn't want to have to constantly switch between standard Bluetooth for Wii or this wrapper, so I got it. And it's worked flawlessly since.

u/birdsandberyllium · 3 pointsr/ShouldIbuythisgame

You can buy a Mayflash adapter which basically makes you PS3 controller work exactly like a Xbox 360 controller; you never have to mess with any software on your PC.

That said I wouldn't bother with it if you're getting a 360 controller since that's a far better controller for racing games anyway. Just thought it's worth a mention

As someone who has played on both Controller and K/M and mostly plays games on K/M, I have to say that for BotW a controller feels nicer to me.

If anyone was wondering I personally use a wireless Xbox 360 Controller and Receiver.

I would probably suggest an Xbox One controller though, considering the battery life on 360 Controllers is eight hours on 2800mAh rechargables. This means I have to cycle using four rechargeables, two on charge two in controller to avoid the expense of disposables.

That said, if it's cheaper for you to buy a 360 controller, receiver and rechargables, or you don't mind wired, do that instead, there's very little advantage otherwise.

I'll shill for my own company and recommend the Nimbus. I admit I'm a biased source but it is really an excellent Bluetooth controller.

u/Max_Roc · 1 pointr/ShieldAndroidTV

I ordered one of these and am happy with it. Definitely won't be as durable as a ps4 or x1 controller if dropped as many times as we've manhandled those conrtollers, but it's good for the price.

Another GameSir user here, GameSir G4s, it was on sale a few months back so I snapped it up. Never had an issue with it, worked like a charm.

A couple of highlights that tipped me in its direction is having a proper internal battery instead of using AA's / AAA's, and it being plug and play with PCs. I have only tested it on the PC and havent used it for that since, but it was nice to have the option.

I've used a Logitech PowerShell for RetroArch. It works great with all of the cores I've tested (SNES, GB, GBA, N64) and the built-in battery is nice. Plus it's MFi compatible so it works with much more than just RetroArch and other emulators.

Thanks to all that have responded to my query! :)

Another late entry into the contest for quality and bang-for-the-buck, with Linux Steam compatibility, is the 'GameSir G3w Wired PC Game Controller' ($28 CDN), which adds compatibility (and a nice bracket) for also playing Android games:

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B019H4DSI0/?coliid=I4UZK5P5GNI18&colid=NITK2G295TE9&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

This controller was mentioned in another thread in this same Linux gaming forum, and even though I find very little info on Google saying so, those that do claim good Linux compatibility. Thoughts?

What I also find interesting is how relatively unclear the 'winners' are for Linux-compatible gaming controllers -- both on Reddit, and on Google in general i.e. everyone seems to have their favorites. Rather than worry about this uncertainty, maybe I should just interpret this as meaning that I will be happy no matter what I pick -- as long as I stay away from knock-offs and fakes, right?

For me, there is some appeal to the simplicity/dependability of a low-end wired device (Xbox 360, Logitech F310, GameSir G3w), but another part of me suggests doubling my budget ($60 CDN instead of $30 CDN) and get something wireless, in order to future-proof my purchase (Logitech F710, Xbox One) or even with with touchpads and/or gyros the same price (DS4, Steam Controller). Sigh...

u/Zero_Risk · 5 pointsr/lowendgaming

I have one of these 8bitdo SFC30 controllers and I absolutely love it. I've used it so much over the last year and a half that I'm very likely going to buy one of their NES30 Pro controllers. I think the NES30 Pro is better suited for PSP emulation and for use with a lot of indie games I have on steam (e.g. Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac, Risk of Rain).

u/EsquireSandwich · 2 pointsr/SteamController

u/BretHartsSpandex · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

That's good! I actually have an idea. A steam controller does the same thing as a trackpad, so maybe you could use that instead. They're on sale right now too, you can save $15. https://www.amazon.com/Steam-Controller-SteamOS/dp/B016KBVBCS?th=1

u/Kuroyama · 1 pointr/Vive

That doesn't sound right... here's the official Xbox 360 one for around 50$

But anyway yeah the Xbox One one + Windows adapter also works if you have Win 10 (and slightly cheaper)

u/SenorPancake · 1 pointr/Games

Your point isn't exactly correct. You don't need a PC for each person - local multiplayer isn't something that is completely unheard of on the PC - go to this link and enter "PC" as the system for a small taste of what is available - note that this just covers co-op games.

You can still set up a PC to be hooked up to your TV, connected to wireless controllers, and to play a multiplayer game together. For the most part, it doesn't require much setup, as modern PC games tend to auto-detect controllers. Add the benefit of the PC being able to emulate almost all of the classic systems (the Xbox and Xbox 360 being very notable exceptions), the potential of using custom USB controllers (such as N64 Controllers, NES Controllers, or SEGA Genesis controllers), and the cost of a PC comparable to the XB1 and the PS4 (about the same price), it can act as a very potent, cost-effective multiplayer machine.

u/Captain_Wonderbread · 1 pointr/zelda

You mean the adapter for the Wii U? That's a fine idea for anyone who has a Wii U and that accessory. Otherwise, I'd go for the usb controller. The reason I'd go with a controller rather than getting an adapter for my Gamecube controllers is that you can get one with nice joysticks and six face buttons on the right side which gives you enough for A, B, and four C buttons, so it's good for N64 games as well.

u/acosmichippo · 3 pointsr/appletv

yeah i have one for gaming on my ipad, i recommend it as well. it’s also a little cheaper on amazon:

Ouch, that's a pain. Not sure how cheap you need to go but I ended up getting a Gamesir G4S and it's detected fine by everything I've tried and works well enough. Not really a fan of xbox-style controllers, but it's pretty tolerable for all of that.

u/tescoemployee · 2 pointsr/gaming

For the 360 controller you need a certain kind :

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Xbox-Common-Controller-Windows/dp/B004JU0JSK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344965767&sr=8-1

For the ps3 controller you need unofficial firmware and to have it emulate a 360 controller, of which there are many guides on the internet.

360 is supported but you need a special type, PS3 is cheaper if you already have one but a little more finicky.

u/m-p-3 · 1 pointr/PS3

It won't work out of the box, you either need some drivers like MotionJoy, BetterDS3, SCPToolkit, or this adapter which make the PS3 controller looks like an Xbox 360 controller (including rumble, etc).

I opted for the adapter, and so far everything works well. I use it in several games on PC (Fallout 4, Skyrim, GTA V) and it works out of the box.

There are actually two versions of the Stratus XL: one designed for use with Android and Windows, and one designed for use with iOS devices. There are some cosmetic differences and obviously some functional differences as well. If your current model works with your Apple TV it's probably the iOS version which doesn't behave correctly when used with the Gear VR platform (or Android in general).

I should have mentioned this but Android is everywhere in my life and iOS nowhere to be found so I'm a little blinkered (there's no philosophical stance involved, or misplaced devotion, it's just the way things turned out).

As for the controller you ordered it will almost certainly work it's just that some of the inputs might not be mapped correctly across all the experiences on the platform. Or maybe they will be.

u/ThatOnePerson · 1 pointr/Games

There's the Xbox One S or a Dualshock 4 controllers. They're both Bluetooth and people sell mounts for them for your phone like this: https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Smart-Clip-PlayStation-DUALSHOCK-Controller/dp/B00FLLFGO8?

Otherwise, I use a 8Bitdo SN30 Pro which has a seperate phone clip designed for it: https://www.amazon.com/XFUNY-Bracket-8Bitdo-Handgrip-Telescopic/dp/B078TWMQFM/ . It's a smaller controller and easier to fit in my pockets than the proper DS4/XBOX controllers.

Though I think the real problem is you're on iOS, and Apple doesn't allow Bluetooth controllers that aren't on their MFi program to work on iOS. Searching on Amazon for mfi controller, looks like Steelseries has a few. But I've got no experience with that.

u/amipow · 2 pointsr/AndroidTV

This one has worked well for me. I've used it with my MiBox (actual Android TV games and emulators) and paired it with my Android phone with success. I don't know about the other systems. Plus, it's only $18.

I recently bough a GameSir G3s. It seems to work pretty well so far, and I like that I can switch it to mouse mode for use with an Android box I have hooked up to the TV in addition to my phone.

I have tried it with my PC but only really to test out the pairing. It seemed to work fine there too.
