Something more lantern-like works better. Nitize makes an LED collar and a LED marker carabiner that are perfect for keeping track of your dog.

^^Also good for small children.

tl:dr There are a few options but if you want a device that will be reliable and effective you'll need a standalone GPS system typically used by hunters ($$$).

I also have a Spliff and my doggo pulls me too! I like that you have a harness on your pup, I've seen dogs with collars being chocked as they run -_-

If you plan on mushing at night, I'd recommend this for your dog's collar and these for your board! This combo makes you and your dog visible, plus glow wheels are dope. Here's a video showing how bright they are in different settings. Have fun!

Nite Ize Clip light for collar

Cheap tupperware bowls for food/water.

A bell. (This in particular has been a huge help. Allows you to continue hiking while the dog bushwacks around, and gives a good idea of whether your dog has stopped moving to investigate something if you don't have eyes on them.)

Are you looking for something to light your way so you can see? Or something that just makes you visible to motorists? If the later, you can find red blinker lights at any sporting goods store. If the former, you could try something like this or this. Or why not just get a regular headlamp and lengthen the strap to fit around your waist? My suspicion, however, is that it will be bouncing around an awful lot in that position.

As someone who's recently begun night-time MTB riding through the forest with their dog, I'd highly recommend getting some kind of LED light that hangs from their collar. I dropped about $6 on this guy at a local store, but there are plenty of options.

Not only does it help you know where your dog is if he's outside the beam of your light, it helps you quickly know if the illuminated eyes staring back at you out of the darkness belong to your friendly puppers, or a ferocious beast of the night.

Unless your puppers is in fact a ferocious beast of the night.

You're not wrong, though for being able to see the dog (not necessarily illuminate much else) I've actually had one of these on his collar for the past six months or so that works pretty well for what it is.

These things work pretty well and are fairly bright for their size, but ones that blink are even better.

We've definitely been almost schmucked a few times walking late in my neighborhood, so I figure it can't hurt. I use one of these little guys.

No adverse reactions from other dogs, though we don't run into too many walking a dusk/night.

Lights on the contact poi? I mean, I've never personally heard of that. Maybe putting Nite Ize in the pomgrips, but that's about it.

Now, if you want LED poi that are made for contact, you have a few options.

This worked great for me.

Amazon link They're the first and only dog lights I've ever used so I have nothing to compare them to BUT they are awesome! Way brighter than I expected

u/JClimber408 · 1 pointr/discgolf

My buddy came up with the idea, but we use dog collar LED lights (also at Home Depot) on our discs. Just remove light from metal ring, drill hole in disc, secure light, enjoy.

Pros: watching it soar at night, not losing your disc, playing after sunset, light shines through both sides

Cons: affects disc flight, falls off if you hit a tree hard, big hole in disc

edit: I'll post an actual photo of disc when off work.

We use these for our labs when we are out running with them before the sun comes up and it works great.

We do a lot of off leash trail runs as well and add on a tiny bell so that others on the trail know something is coming and don’t get spooked in case a gigantic dog comes barreling around the corner

What about a small LED clip-on? Easier, cheaper, more effective at night and less messy than using paint.
