I can vouch for the retro bit sega controller personally. Feels just like the real thing. My only complaint is that it's small but I'll be trying out the Saturn one soon when I get it.

I mean how is it different from https://www.amazon.com/Retro-Bit-Official-Controller-8-Button-RetroPie-Raspberry/dp/B07P37ZGTF/ which also has the 6 button layout and is already available?

You can get an official USB right now... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P37ZGTF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_6I82CbJSWX8XS

There is even a clear blue version or a Saturn USB controller if you so desire. 😉

These are PC controllers with D input & X input toggle, so you would need a verified working adapter if you want to use on PS4.

Something like these adapters, while the controller is in X input mode, might work (not verified) for PS4.

Or you can stop torturing yourself, get an arcade stick / fightstick with Sanwa JLF and modify it.

This doesn’t solve the issue, but contrary to what others are saying, this controller allows D-pad movement for Link’s Awakening:

It still sucks to hear though that the SNES controller dpad doesn’t work for movement and I’m sure getting this one controller for just Link’s Awakening isn’t ideal. But I thought I’d put this out there in case there are other controllers out there where the dpad does work.

Retro-bit makes an 8 button controller which has two shoulder buttons that is compatible with the Genesis Mini. I purchased one a few months ago. Though the 8bitdo one might be wireless.

You can order $20 retrobit USB controllers on Amazon. They come in a box closely modeled after the original 6-button box, which is nice.

I haven't used the 3-button pads with my Genesis Mini; I went straight to the 6-button retrobit.
