make sure you go into the settings of the phones and set the headset modes to the proper manufacturer.

1. Navigate to the Analog Headset menu (Menu > Settings > Basic > Preferences > Headset > Analog Headset).
   
2. Select the appropriate headset mode:
   Choose Regular Mode (default) if no compatible headset is attached.
   Choose Jabra DHSG if an EHS compatible Jabra headset is attached with an EHS cable or adapter.

That's not an RJ45 port, it's a MMJ connector. They're a special 6-pin connector used on most older DEC serial equipment. Pacific Cable still sells some MMJ cables.

By the time the VT510 was released, they were staring to phase them out, and use more IBM-PC compatible stuff. If you're connecting to old VAXes or early Alphas, then MMJ cables would probably be the way to go. Connecting with anything else, you'll want to use the DB25 port.

IIRC, you could hook up 2 different computers (1 on the DB25 port, and 1 on the MMJ) and then use some key combinations to switch between them.

It's technically possible, but it would be much easier, faster, more reliable, and cheaper to just buy a long enough Cat 6 cable.

I was just reading about null modems for file transfer. I'm having a rather hard time locating a good walk-through. A lot to learn with all this, which is why I am doing it I suppose. A link to some good tutorials would be appreciated so I can stop bothering you

Can I simply do the copy command via my Windows 10 command prompt or should I be booting some sort of MS DOS installation? Also, can you elaborate more on avoiding IRQ 4? Would I need to buy a separate serial adapter card?

EDIT: Upon further research it looks like there may be more to it than just the simple copy command, including having to initialize the com port beforehand with speeds and stuff I am not familiar with. However I am unable to locate anything conclusive. Other people have to have done this to be able to use mTCP at all so I am puzzled why my googlefu is failing me

Monoproce is reliable, but the only rj11s I see are aimed at voice usage currently, so I would avoid.

You set a ip address on a managed switch so you can access it via its web management interface. You do this with null modem and hyperterm. After that you can telnet to it via ethernet.

To get from the PS4's HDMI output to an analog input for the Edifier 3300, you could use an HDMI audio extractor which produces an analog signal:

If you're handy with basic electronics, you could build yourself an RCA to Edifier connector by using a multimeter to probe your broken wired remote (and/or inspect the amplifier on the inside of the woofer) to figure out which of the pins on the D-sub connector are actually used for audio. There will be at least three pins used (L+, R+, LED +), plus the shield. /r/audiorepair might be able to help with detailed advice.

You've already gotten your answer about using cat 6 instead of the regular telephone cord, but what no one has mentioned is that there are "telephone" cords (i.e. a cable with RJ-11 connectors on either end like you use for a telephone land line) that are actually designed specifically for data. I bought mine off Amazon back in the dark days of being trapped with ATT DSL being our ONLY option. Thankfully ATT had enough of our complaining about .5Mbps average speeds with ping times up to 300 milliseconds as our average and installed fixed wireless for us. Night and day. the RJ45 is just a distinction of the connector, where the CAT6 is a distinction of the cable itself. A CAT6 cable with an RJ45 connector is standard 'networking' cable, so most likely if you have a CAT6 cable it has an RJ45 connector on it (Though it can also have other connectors).

If you're just using the RJ11 for internet and no phone, id suggest using a high-speed internet RJ11 cable, even though you can also use a straight-up normal telephone line (which by default has an RJ11 connector).

You can try those power-line ethernet adapters. Personally, I have had very mixed results. Sometimes they worked great, other times total crap. I would unplug the two that I had from the wall at one apartment (where they worked great), and take them to my next apartment where they "worked" slightly less well than a 9600 baud modem on a noisy phone line.^1

On a similar note, if there's a phone jack both upstairs and downstairs you can try and use those ethernet-to-phoneline bridges - for example.

But both of those require spending money, which it sounds like you're loathe to do.

Are you sure you can't run an ethernet cable upstairs? Even just running loose up the stairs? (I assume you're not willing to drill holes in the walls because it's a rental.)

My master socket comes into the front of the house, in my daughter's bedroom, on the windowsill. Obviously, that entire combination is terrible for router placement.

I've replaced the front plate with a new one, which has a VDSL takeoff on the back. This goes into a CAT6 cable, into a patch panel about 20m of cable away. This then links to another CAT6 of about 35m, which comes out in another patch panel where my servers are. From here, there's an RJ45 to RJ11 cable into the modem.

Ok, so do you think something like this would work connecting from the socket to my PS4? It works ok on WiFi as it is but just thought if there was an option to plug in then it'd do no harm.
