Top Reddit comments about Movies:

u/NotMara · 3 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

1.) Something that is blue.
This Neblua Funko Pop is not only cute, but also BLUE.
Because Mother's Day is around the corner, how about this gorgeous necklace?
Not only that, but are you a fidget kinda preson? Then this is the perfect thing for you!

2.) Something that says summer (literally or figuratively).
Gotta love summer! You know what comes with summer? Sunflowers!
For some reason, pineapples really remind me of summer. I can't really say why. They just, like, SCREAM "summer" to me.
Summer, to me, also means relaxing with a good book. And what better book than the next one in the Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin?

3.) Something food related that is unusual.
Not sure if this counts as unusual, but I thought it was quite abnormal...
Also, I can't say I've ever seen a water melon cake-topper, though I'm no expert on cake toppers.
Also, if horror movies and the undead are your kinda thing, how about a side-dish of zombie?

4.) Something you want to gift to someone else, and tell me why.
I really want to gift this beautiful Pop moment to my brother, because he's amazing and deserves all the things.
I also want to gift this soundtrack to my sister because she's always singing, and I know it'd makes her happy.

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!
Oh my gosh, you are totally asking the right person. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer is one of the best books that has ever existed. Not only that, but it's a series! Also, my username is taken from the first page of the book, so that must mean that it's good. It's got suspense, kids with powers, and some horror themes. It's just overall a great book. PLEASE check it out!
Another good book series is the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard. The final book is coming out this year, so I'm excited!
Why stop there? Another great book is All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. It will break your heart, but in a good way. It's a beautifully written book. I'm not sure what genre you like, but it reminded me of the genre of books like The Fault in Our Stars and Everything, Everything.
Another great series is The Darkest Minds series by Alexandra Bracken. Not only is a great series, but there's also a movie coming out in August that's based off the books! Better get reading. ;)

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!
These are totally adorable AND affordable! Talk about a deal.
Like writing? This notebook would be the excellent choice for the writer within! Or just someone who likes taking notes.
Have a cat? How 'bout some good ol' catfood?

7.) Something related to dogs. (Bonus point if it works for my GSD)
I don't know what GSD means I'M SORRY! But here is the cutest alligator plushie. Like if I was a dog I would legit want it for myself.
I stumbled across this adorable squirrel set thing and I am internally squeeing at the cuteness.
Okay by now I really want a dog. Somebody send me one pronto. Here's an adorable taco plush, because heck it's cute and funny and I really want a puppy.

8.) Something that is not useful, but so awesome you must have it.
Oh boy, you shouldn't have asked. It's the most expensive thing on my wishlist, and it's beautiful. I know, I know, it's a book, but it's more than that! It's a HUGE book with photographs from my favorite, most-loved movie series! Seriously. Words cannot describe how cool of a book it is. And there's a limited number of them made, and there's only 3 left in stock. But I digress. It's not what one would consider useful, but it sure is awesome.
Wait, what's that? I haven't mentioned Kylo Ren in 2 minutes? Oh boy, better change that. Yes, I love Kylo Ren. I'm aware that is a touchy subject with people. I don't care. I have a shrine in my room for Kylo Ren. This pillow is not what most people would call necessary, though honestly I would probably beg to differ.
Pretty much everyone can agree that Funko Pops aren't necessary, but they are so much fun oh my gosh. Like, for instance, this somewhat expensive yet cool Darth Vader Pop.

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?
I love movies. With a passion. But my favorite movies of all time, are The Hunger Games movies. If that wasn't evident by the massive expensive book above, then I don't know what is. But honestly, they're great movies. I know they're not for everyone, but they hold a special place in my heart.
Someone recently gifted me Moulin Rouge, and honestly it is so good. So, I also, of course, recommend that. It has singing, great vocalists, great songs, and a great plot. It also has Ewan McGregor, so what's not to like?
I saw Logan (the final Wolverine movie in theaters, and it is such a beautiful movie. Very sad, but very beautiful. The best Wolverine movie in my opinion. 10/10 would watch/cry again.
Another great futuristic movie is V for Vendetta. It's a well-known movie, and it's very good.
If you're into horror, I love the most recent Carrie movie. I know it's not for everyone, but I really liked it.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.
I mean, I think it's pretty self-explanatory, but this bat would make a great weapon in the apocalypse. Also, if you're into leading an army and "saving" people, this bat will probably get you there. (Ahem I totally didn't just buy this bat for myself cough.)
Not sure if bright green is the way to go in the apocalypse, but I'm sure a bow and arrow set would keep you alive for a little bit. Especially if you happen to be Daryl Dixon (though I guess he technically has a crossbow... I digress).
Don't try and tell me that in the apocalypse you won't get peckish. Everyone knows that snacks will be the first to go. Better stock up on those sweet, sweet snacks.

This is a great question, and one that I find really fascinating. Training your dog to be self disciplined is really important. Particularly with bouncy breeds! (Be realistic though, no being is perfect :D)

Here are some suggestions.

  • Ian Dunbar has some strong opinions on how a dog should be expected to behave - his motivations are similar to yours (ensuring the dog is a loved and welcomed family member for its own long-term future). He is a great believer in crate training and socialisation. I tend to agree with him. These resources are very useful: https://www.siriuspup.com/

  • Definitely heeling - this is a really important skill which you can build on and build on. Lots of practice, well rewarded, will mean you can get your dog walking close by your side when needed. Similarly, teach an emergency about-turn and - down the track - heeling on both sides with a cue to switch from one side to the other.

  • Hand target (fist bump with the nose). Great for moving the dog, keeping her entertained when you need to sit and wait somewhere - and a foundation for a million other things to be trained.

  • Go to your mat / bed / crate

  • Automatic sit. Certainly fits with the image of the 'disciplined dog' and will help with encouraging calm.

  • Emergency sit ( at a distance)

  • Recall, recall, recall! As well as training 'come', also use a whistle - blow it and give the dog a bowl of chicken. Extend the distance. Repeat in different locations. Your whistle is now a rock solid emergency-only recall cue.

  • Stop on recall

  • Automatic leave-it. http://www.dogtrainergames.com/its-yer-choice/

  • Crate Games by Susan Garrett are awesome for teaching discipline and also a load of other things

  • Help your dog learn to be calm when he's not getting attention:
    Relax on a Mat
    and
    Relaxation Protocol by Karen Overall

  • Advanced: help your dog learn to calm himself when he's anxious or reacting to a trigger through relaxation and biofeedback

Don't be too snooty about training tricks. Firstly, fun training for treats will keep your dog interested in training: training a variety tricks for treats throughout her life will help you build a great bond and strengthen the 'training mindset' which is important for a love of learning and advanced obedience.
The key to successful training is to make everything a game. Ultimately, you want your dog to choose to offer the behaviours you want (like sitting calmly at your feet while you sit and eat a burger) because she thinks it's an awesome trick which will get her a huge reward.
Learning tricks provides a useful and entertaining way to tire the dog out; training tires them far faster than long walks or runs. You have a smart pup, so lots of heeling and basic training will get boring for both of you. Plus: training a few cute tricks will melt people's hearts and help overcome the perception problems you're worried about. You could start with a paw shake, bow, roll-over, and work up to 'peekaboo' (through your legs), spin... The 'Do More With Your Dog' program offers a huge range of tricks to choose between.

Be sure to train things which are age appropriate: she'll probably mature by about 18mo -2yrs, so don't expect advanced calculus before then!

  1. I just got home from my bank! Now I'm relaxing on the couch with my kitty.
  2. It was really hot outside and in the car, so it's nice to sit back and enjoy the air conditioning for a few minutes :)
  3. Tomorrow I'm going to do the same thing I do every day--try to take over the world!! Mwahahahaha. Or apply for jobs, the one occupation of the unemployed haha.
  4. My number one goal right now is to find a job!! I hate not working, and I'm really quite bored of my forced vacation haha.
  5. I do not have a desk. But on the couch with me is a pair of scissors, a little dessert bowl that used to be holding a bunch of blueberries, my one-eyed hairless cat, and a folder full of my sister's schoolwork.
  6. Place words, phrases, or clauses that describe nouns and pronouns as closely as possible to the words they describe.
  7. One of my sister's school books, titled "Writing Skills: Success in 20 Minutes a Day"
  8. A bite of English toffee from Disneyland!! I like to get sweets at their sweet shops to enjoy for a couple of days after my trip :)
  9. Well, currently I'm working my way through The Know-It-All by A.J. Jacobs! I'm really enjoying it.
  10. Wow, this is a really tough question for me, because I've been doing a lot of reading since I graduated. I really enjoyed "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green though, so I guess I'll call that my favorite.
  11. I think this question is fun, so I'm going to answer for each of my wishlists! I'm obviously NOT ASKING for all these things--I just like seeing the cool stuff on my wishlists :D My most wanted item from my Expensive Things wishlist is this kindle with all the bells and whistles. Obviously that's not something I'm ever expecting to get gifted--it's my wild dream item that I'm super excited about saving up for :) My most wanted thing from my default list is this kitty seat! My cat isn't allowed outside, but she loves sitting by the window and looking out--I'd love for her to be able to do that more comfortably :) My most wanted book from that wishlist is A Dance with Dragons because NOBODY TOLD ME A FEAST FOR CROWS DIDN'T HAVE ANY DANY OR TYRION IN IT. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THEM! My most wanted movie is either Tangled or Brave, because I love Disney princesses and I don't have those movies yet D: My most wanted music is The Lumineers, because they're amazing! And my most wanted cheap thing is The Essence of Style, because I've been dying to read this book for YEARS. That gives you lots of options of my most-wanted things, so you can pick what you like the most if I win!

Thanks so much for the contest! DANG IT I POSTED BEFORE INCLUDING Zweihander BECAUSE I'M SILLY. Thanks for the contest!! I had fun with it :)

  1. Blue BlueTooth It's blue and bluetooth! And happens to be the blue version of the speaker I use all the time. (frys sells it refurbished at an epic discount from time to time)

  2. Summer kids Summer dress It says summer AND it's for summer! I don't know what strawberrying summer means though...

  3. disgusting egg seperator It's food related. It's seriously weird.

  4. German Shepherd Umbrella I want to get this for my mom. It looks like a pup we had and she never buys happy things for herself.

  5. Sharon Shinn 12 Houses Series Fantasy world with magic and swords by one of my favorite authors.

  6. A spot of bother Ebook I kept meaning to put on my kindle because $1

  7. Leather Dog Collar with German Shepherd Faces Making that one easy for me! I've been eyeing that for my GSD

  8. Skull Art I just love staring at it, but have never found an excuse to get it. So I figure that counts. I tend to focus more on useful things in general.

  9. V for Vendetta Great movie, and a pretty amazing message about what can happen if a society becomes complacent.

  10. Tactical survival kit Being able to cut wood, start fire, etc will be pretty important. Never underestimate the ability to cut and carve spears.

  11. Slideboard Trainer I am trying to get back into rollerblading, but my heart is making that difficult. I've been eye one of these for a while because I could train in the house for bad health days/weather/ to find out how far I can go now and hopefully improve it without crashing out halfway through a park.

  12. Add on Betta Plants Because fish are cool

  13. Sharks! Because sharks. Is it sharks? Cuz I like sharks.

  14. Standing Wheelchair They should be cheaper because they seriously improve the health of wheelchair bound people. A sibling company to one my husband and I used to work intended to get him one through their charitable side, so this one was an easy find for me.

  15. More sharks!!! I hadn't seen this before, might be nice when I am vending. Why you gotta go make me look at stuff? LOL

  16. vanilla essential oil I use this. It is amazing. Almost like baking vanilla, warm and lovely.

  17. Fashion Plate Kit Not the exact one I had, but the same idea. It was a lot of fun, and I design and sew now so...

  18. Writers Toolbox Something to help with the inevitable writers block, to relax, and play with ideas.

  19. Super Wide angle lens I've been photo obsessing for almost a year now, and am now trying to sell some prints when I vend at fairs!

  20. Octopus TP holder Hes got 8 arms, so why not? Makes me giggle.

Here goes! It looks like I got all but 1 item from my current wishlist. Yah!

1.) Something that is grey.

2.) Something reminiscent of rain. Why not a raincoat?

3.) Something food related that is unusual. These are from Japan and Matcha flavor is hard to find in the US!

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!) For my son! He's a nugget.

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! Guy Gavriel Kay is an amazing writer and I think everyone should read his books. They evoke so many emotions!

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! How about free? Read the classics!

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...) NO.

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. I think by definition art is not useful, but very beautiful!

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? Because Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion are amazing.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. For stabbing. It's a silent weapon, which is best. You don't want to attract more of the undead.

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. My current goal is to be more active as I try to lose weight, but foot pain is a big barrier to walking/exercising more. I have heard awesome things about this foot wrap and it would be a huge help and keep me from being in pain as I exercise!

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. It's hard to find in stores now, weirdly. And it's all I wear daily!

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why? PS4!

14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave. Home. Made. Cappucino. It can go right next to the breadbox.

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball. This is pocket sized!

16.) Something that smells wonderful. Apples!!

17.) A (SFW) toy. She-Ra is pretty safe for work

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school. If you're in college, you're gonna need one of these.

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be. Adventure Time! Come on, grab your friends!

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand. What's mrore amazing than being INSANELY comfortable? Just look at it! Get inspired to sleep. It looks so comfy, I can't handle it.

So, outside is SO MUCH MORE EXCITING!!! OH MY GOD!! Have you sniffed those BUSHES!? And look at that BIRD! I wanna catch it! It's a good bird, I'm gonna get it! OOOHH!! I FORGOT ABOUT THAT POLE!!! IT'S THE MOST EXCITING THING EVER!!!

So yeah. Outside can be super, super, super exciting for dogs. There is so much more vying for their attention and most pets are inside far more than they are outside so they've never really learned to ignore all the distractions from outside.

Have you ever walked into something like a TV store where every TV has some different show on? It's overwhelming, and you can't figure out where to focus your attention, right? That's what outside can feel like to some dogs.

You are utterly uninteresting in that environment!

What is key is getting your dog to be able to ignore those distractions and instead focus on you. It's going to be a long process, and you have to basically start from the beginning whenever you're in a new environment.

I think a great idea is to work on general attention when outside. Kikopup has some great games to show your dog that paying attention to you when outside is a great thing. For these games, I highly recommend a high value treat. When I first started with my pup I had to use warm boiled chicken (cold chicken wasn't interesting enough). She would also work for warmed lunch meat (I just threw in in a tupperware and threw it in the microwave for a bit)

While doing these games, if you don't have a fenced area, get a long line (if you don't have one already) so that your dog is safe. Always attach a long line to a harness as a dog can really gain some speed and if they hit the end of the long line on their neck, it can really damage it.

Another thing you can look up is "Crate Games". I unfortunately don't have a link for this (I'm learning them from a class) as sometimes initially using a crate outside when they've learned these games in the same crate while inside can help dogs transfer the behaviors more easily. This is what I'm trying to use for my pup whose recall is certainly less than stellar when outside (she LOVES to sniff things and has a huge prey drive)

Here's the DVD for crate games (runs about $34) I've never viewed the DVD, my trainer is just using the basic concepts in this DVD for her class.

  1. Brave I watched this over at a friends and not only would I love to see it again but I love strong female characters and I would love for my 4 year old to see this as I believe that she will love it!

  2. TankGirl is a cult classic that I don't have any clue why I don't own it already! It is one of those amazingly awesomely bad movies that you just have to watch again and again and it has been way too long since I last saw it!

  3. I love movies because I don't have cable TV and all I do is watch things on netflix and on video. It helps me clean = they bring up topics of discussion with my girls They are amazing - and Used is great as is anything on my dvd list :)

If you like the movie - and it is a movie that all movie-lovers should own - then you should know that there are many versions for sale.

I highly recommend The Complete Metropolis. This version was not only restored but this includes 25 minutes of new content and the original score. I'm not one for documentaries but I love the movie and it has an awesome story of how they found the new footage. Some of the new content was not restored to showcase the original so, hopefully, Criterion will take a look at it one day to create a true masterpiece.

I do not recommend the version that has Giorgio Moroder's score which is the Giorgio Moroder Presents Metropolis: Special Edition. Since this is a silent movie, here is a sample of what music from this version is like (NSFW). It's pretty terrible and has no relation to the original - and beautiful - score.

Here's a trailer to the superior version. (NSFW)

  1. Kiki's Delivery Service because my three year old loves loves loves studio ghibli films and there are only so many that are age appropriate. She loves Totoro, Spirited Away (which she says is about her bc Sen looks like her), and Howl's Moving Castle. Located on movie list.

  2. Catching Fire would be awesome because I adore Jennifer Lawrence and the books are some of my favs. The movies are so good! This is on my main wishlist.

  3. I love movies because... they are an awesome escape! Nothing better than unwinding after the kids are in bed than with a great movie. :)
u/heyredridinghood · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

On my main list I have The Journey art book because it was one of the most beautiful games I have ever played and I love art books.

From my videogame list I have a Wiimote plus because my add on plus thinger makes Link run in circles. XD

Is it okay to enter more than one and let you pick? I like so many movies its hard to choose!

I love movies because...

So, the reason i want these is because me and my sisters used to watch them all the time and it was one of the only times we got along and had a lot of fun. It brings such good memories and we always have fun when we watch them!

Phantom opera

Robin hood men in tights

The Princess Bride

Monty python and the holy grail

(note: Regular DVD of any of those are fine, i just saw the blueray first)

Me and my mom LOVE godzilla so this would be perfect!

And these are som of my favorite movies of all time!
Moulin Rouge

Lord of the rings box set (Im looking at the used version)

And this because i havent seen it and people say its great!

Again, feel free to choose which come in bluray and which you want to get DVD, im not picky!

Thanks again and sorry if me posting a lot of them causes a problem :D

u/aly5077 · 3 pointsr/Dogtraining

Right now, by putting the food in first, you are luring her. This isn't a problem, it just uses different learning mechanism than shaping, and tends to work much slower.

I'd try getting her in the kennel, and then giving her a treat (while she's still in the kennel.) Wait a second or two, then give her another. Do this 4-5 times, then call her out of the kennel. Chances are, she'll turn around and go back in. If not, no worries, just use better cookies and try again later. If she does, repeat the game. :) If you ever catch her hanging out in either kennel, give her a treat. The first couple times, you might have to lure, but get away from that as soon as possible. You want her thinking it through and choosing it do it on her own, then by giving her a cookie, you are reinforcing that choice. When you lure, you are reinforcing following the cookie.

It's not a big deal for your dog to prefer other places, but it's also really nice for your dog to like her kennel. I travel a lot with mine (agility trials, camping) and kennels are awesome for that. At different points in their lives, both of mine have also been on crate rest (which sucks when you have active dogs!!) and having them comfortable in their crates helped a ton.

Edit: I should mention there is an amazing DVD on crate training, Crate Games by Susan Garrett.

>their pricetags can have drastic differences anyway.

Thats the thing. The prices can be wildly different. I don't have any actual examples of the top of my head, but lets say sometimes you might see two series with similar prices for the regular edition, and similar bonuses for the special edition, but one special edition will eb $20 more than the other. I'd say things like stickers and similar things are not worth it, but bonuses like behind the scenes, OST, and similar can be pretty cool, as can some other merchandise. Do you ahve any specific ones you were looking at and wanted to know if they were worth it? Do you have any specific examples?

For CowBoy Bebop, the difference between the regular and the Amazon exclusive is the Amazon exclusive has both the Bluray and DVD and also: Limited Edition clamshell art box, 140 page black and white art book and 48 page full-color art book. It doesn't seem like a bad deal.

  1. Kiki's Delivery Service, I grew up on this movie. <3 I would love for my daughter to be able to enjoy it.
  2. Despicable Me on Blu-ray, since my daughter thinks the minions are cute, and I loved the movie when it came out.
  3. I love movies because... well, because they're an escape, and I love the stories. The same reason I love books.

The Perfect Night In - by dugup46

It was the night of the 23rd, an August I believe. Dugup46 had the day off work to think about the upcoming school year which would start the following Monday. Would this year be any different from the past?

He could sit there, hour after hour, thinking about work, like he has so many summers in the past, or just maybe, he could spend the perfect night in and relax in his new home.

He could worry about lunch the following work day, or he could just eat his Coffee Crisp Bites and remain on the couch. The latter sounds more appetizing.

The perfect night in begins with relaxing. The kitchen is bustling with dinner being cooked by his girlfriend, as he starts on the first chapter of Inferno. After a dinner consisting of steak and potatoes, it is time they both kick back and relax to a thriller... no... a comedy... maybe a drama? How about Django Unchained? Yeah! That's the one!

When the movie ends, the lights go off. Both dugup46 and his woman head to bed where the night is merely just beginning...

The rest of the story can be yours and be made available when items highlighted in blue are wishlisted. Rather than continue in story mode, I will supply real life events on how the night concluded. This, of course, would only be the SFW version.

Thanks for the contest! Figured I would have a little fun with it... now all I need is a writer and an editor, and I would be golden.

If you are happy, and more importantly, your dog is happy and safe then you are doing everything just fine. I have owned dogs for 50 years and never used a crate. My youngest dog uses a crate now because we do agility and it is needed when we are at the venues. If you ever have a need Susan Garrett is a great resources for helping make crates desirable (http://www.amazon.com/Susan-Garretts-Crate-Self-Control-Motivation/dp/B0013GJJG6). In terms of feeding I have done both. The only advantage, I have found, to scheduled feeding is that their bathroom schedule is more predictable. The fact that you are asking questions makes me think your dog is one lucky dog. Enjoy!

Oh boy, scene from my favorite movie... Too many movies to count. Movies and music are my thing, I'm going to university for them. Anyway, I'd have to say that as of right now the most memorable scene from a movie that I've watched has to be in a French film called "The Science of Sleep."

In the particular scene I am thinking of, the main character is shaving and cuts himself. He then throws his electric razor and it comes alive, and "crawls" a little bit. He then appears at work with oversized hands working on illustrations as papers begin to fly around the office as if there is a wind. He then fights his coworkers, runs into his bosses office to confront him where he catches him having an affair with an employee. The boss stands up and yells at the main character, the main character reaches into his pocket and pulls out the razor from before, it has turned into a spider which he immediately drops and it runs over to the boss causing him to fall out of his seat. He then falls out of the office window. The main character runs over to the window only to see everything outside is in a quaint artsy craftsy style, with toy cars and pop up book style buildings. He then takes over the office and has an affair with the employee. He jumps out the window and begins to swim through the air as if he is under water. He then wakes up. All of it was just a dream.

That's just a rough memory of the scene, but I think I got most of it. This movie is brilliant, and that scene has stuck with me more so than any other scene from any other film I've ever watched. I don't know quite why, I guess its the sort of surreal feel of the scene, and well the movie as a whole. I've always enjoyed the things that are bizarre, and fresh. This movie is just a really unique idea. I just found it thoroughly enjoyable. I'd suggest giving it a look if you get a chance.

This is what I would enjoy very much if I were to win. I know it is an awfully done movie, but I can't help but laugh everytime I watch it. It's so funny, especially when watching with friends.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

My younger sister is my dearest friend. She got a second chance at life; there was a time we didn't think she'd make it to 16.

She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer when she was 15. She had chemo for a year and had to drop out of high school. Rather than let chemo take her hair, she shaved it all off herself. She made many friends at the children's hospital and was a sort of den mother for the younger girls. Unfortunately, she lost a lot of friends there, too.

She was deemed cancer-free in December of '01. One of her nurses submitted her to Make-a-Wish and she was selected to receive a Wish. Our family was flown from Pittsburgh to Tampa, where we got to see U2 in concert. My sister got to meet the band, and Bono told her, "I didn't expect you to be so gorgeous." It was amazing. We also got to go to Busch Gardens with a "skip-the-line" pass. It was a wonderful celebration of her new life.

After dropping out of high school and doing the year of chemo, she got her GED. Then she went to Pitt and got a Bachelor's Degree. This month she is graduating from SAIC in Chicago with a Master's Degree in Arts Management. She wants more hospitals to care about the art in them, as she knows first hand how healing it can be.

In August she is getting married to a wonderful man. They aren't sure if she can have kids, because of the chemo. If they can't, they're going to adopt many. She is the kindest soul, and the world could use more of her. :D

If you choose me, I'd like this. We used to watch it together all the time when we were kids.

From The Rock:

" So you ended up here. Which brings me to the next question. You broke out, let me see if I can get this straight. You went through the incinerator chute, under the mine closet - that was really cool by the way - under the steam engine, and into the systern, but how, in the name of Zeus' butt-hole did you get out of your cell. I only ask because in our current situation, that could prove to be useful information, maybe."

This version of Metropolis? I wasn't aware of a Pat Benatar/AC DC soundtrack, but this is the version I have. I know Nosferatu has a version on DVD only with a Type O Negative soundtrack that I picked up for like $4 on Amazon which wasn't bad for $4. I do have the Blu of Nosferatu and of course recommend it.

Monster Squad is not quite the same as Goonies, just kind of in the same vein. I do recommend you check it out some day for sure.

Also, have you heard of Trick R Treat? Great film. And Dead Snow which is subtitled but fun. Dead Alive is a classic Peter Jackson film which is just awesome but I think out of print. Another PJ film is The Frighteners which is still fun. Re-Animator is also very good. And Return of the Living Dead is a zombie film you'll definitely enjoy, it has a lot of dark comedy. Also, the Evil Dead trilogy is great. Many people swear by Evil Dead 2, but Army of Darkness is my personal favorite.

If you're into "so bad they're awesome" films, then Troll 2 is for you ;)

This set is honestly the best set of movies I own. The box it comes in is simply amazing. its not just a typical cardboard holder. Id recommend checking it out in store to really see what the box is like. The extended edition is not necessary but makes it a little more enjoyable.

as for steel-books, they are the same most of the time, its just the case they come in is just a better box. Sometimes they have cool cover art. I always prefer steel-books just because they look better than the plastic holders.

What about Dr Horrible a fun musical, and lighthearted - based on his interest in The Sound of Music & Finding Nemo

or Repo! The Genetic Opera a not-so lighthearted (but still very fun!), dystopian, musical based on his interest in Divergent combined with his interest in musicals.

You're placing what appears to be a sacred value on downloaded media files, whereas I do not. Is the world going to end if you lose Mork & Mindy S02E04?

All I am doing is presenting a much less expensive alternative method that has proven itself to work over a long period of time by using commodity hardware to store non critical data files with no data loss. The operative words there are no data loss. Isn't that the goal anyway?

There is no way in hell I would recommend this method for business or mission critical data use though. For movies, music and TV shows, sure. Worst case scenario, you have to download it again.

If what someone downloads from torrents or Usenet is SO valuable that thousands of dollars are spent to acquire and configure server grade hardware for the sole purpose of storing questionably sourced media files, and that's really what we are talking about here then maybe that money should have been spent to buy that content on Blu-ray or DVD in the 1st place and store it under the proper conditions and be done with it.

Last year, I bought the 15 disc Blu-ray / DVD collectors edition of the Lord of the Rings extended editions trilogy for $38 delivered from Amazon. Content on Blu-Ray does not cost what it used to, if you shop around, there are good deals to be had if you simply look.

That's $2.53 a disc, it was cheaper to simply buy the original than it would have been to buy hard drives, download and process and maintain those discs on expensive server grade hardware. The box does not consume electricity or give off heat in the summer months too while still achieving 100% availability.

I have been successfully using consumer grade hardware, consumer grade drives and the newest edition to the mix in the past 4 years, slightly better but still consumer grade Rosewill (Sans Digital OEM) 4 and 8 drive external SATA enclosures with great success at a minimal cost with no data loss as compared to server grade equipment with no data loss. It won't win any benchmark speed contests but it meets my needs by reliably delivering content across my network on request and that's really what matters.

The car leasing analogy I used was to highlight the difference between long term car ownership / long term drive usage as compared to that of a leased car which does not wear out and break down and have catastrophic failures in the span of two to three years, very much like hard drives that are only 2 years old and still reliable. It was never about the pros and cons of leasing vs buying cars.

Big corporations lease thousands of corporate grade desktop computers at a time for a 2 or 3 year period for exactly the same reason, downtime is expensive, unscheduled downtime is 10x more expensive because that computer is not earning you profit and profit not earned is profit lost.

By flushing out their hardware every few years with new equipment, they enjoy the benefit from the advances made and they don't experience failures that are prone to happen with older equipment that is now approaching the anticipated end of it's life span.

If it didn't make economic sense, they would not do it. You see these off-lease computers for sale everywhere for around $100.

I don't need raid, I don't need offsite backup for something that's going to get deleted after I'm done with it in a few weeks.

What I'm doing and how I'm doing it clearly meets my needs and it may inspire somebody to get their feet wet at minimal cost and then later progress to using better quality hardware down the road if they choose.

Oh my...so hard to choose one. But hands down, top five(ish) (more or less in order):

  • The Producers (1968) - Mel Brooks' first work is still his greatest.

  • Metropolis - the original sci-fi film. A beautiful and terrible Art Deco future. If you watch it, actively seek out the "Complete Edition" with re-recorded orchestral score. So many movies have drawn from this well--Star Wars, Blade Runner, The Matrix...and too many others to list.

  • Adam - A beautiful film. A love story. Not a Rom-Com. And Hugh Dancy stars, though that's just a bonus, and not what drew me.

  • Thank You For Smoking and In The Loop - two wonderful and dark political satires, though the latter is significantly darker.

  • Company (2006) - Not strictly a "movie", but a recording of a live Broadway performance of one of Stephen Sondheim's brilliant works. Some of my favorite music and lyrics from any show.

  • The Muppet Movie - No explanation needed, I assume?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat

Of course you should. If you don't have the full LOTR extended edition trilogy, you automatically relinquish your claim to huge nerd-dom.

The extended editions also have about 6 hours of behind the scenes documentary for each movie....a total of 18 hours for the whole trilogy. Definitely worth a watch at least once, to appreciate all that went into the films and the charming people who were behind it.

Also, there is 4 different audio commentaries from different groups (cast, directors, art team, producers) for each movie. That's about 40 total hours of audio right there. I love to listen to these sometimes when I'm doing other stuff, never really ceases to be entertaining.

As mentioned by /u/hereisatoptip , Prometheus, Avatar and LOTR are positively stuffed with goodies. The Alien Anthology and Star Wars complete saga box sets are amazing, although navigating the bonus material in both is a bit of a PITA. The Star Trek 'classic films' box set actually included some great bonus features, even though the remasters of the films themselves left a bit to be desired. Also, the Blade Runner five-disc Collector's Edition has pretty much everything a BR fanatic could want, including the original workprint and the tremendous 'Strange Days' documentary.

First, I would sit down and watch a movie with my SO. If I were alone, I would watch a different movie. While watching said movie, I would most likely paint my toenails. Cause they need a good painting!

I would either order myself some dinner, either Chinese or pizza so I didn't have to leave the house. Everyone needs a "I'm not changing out of my pj's" day.

I'd need snacks too. Like brownie brittle or chocolate. And ice cream. Lots of ice cream...with chocolate in it...?! YES. With chocolate!

Lastly, I would finish off the night with a nice hot bath. There's nothing like a bunch of steam and bubbles to get ya' nice and relaxed.

That's how I'd spend my "Me time"! :D

Susan Garrett's Crate Games DVD would probably be supremely helpful. Just treat the doorway of the house the same way you'd treat the doorway of a crate.

The general gist of CG is that you build value for being INSIDE and waiting there calmly until released if the door is opened.

Sono Heya is a kind of obscure anime that came out in 2003 by an independent studio. It is a romantic tragedy anime about a banker, named Jounni, who has a perfect life with his fiancee in San Francisco. I think it might be the first anime to take place there. He has many friends, earns a lot of money, and has a fiancee, Risa, that loves him, or so he thinks. One day, while Jounni is at work, some NTR stuff goes on with Jounni's best friend Maruku. As the movie goes on, Jounni's life gets worse and worse. Several dark themes are brought up, like cancer, gang violence, drugs, and even suicide that really broke new ground. You can tell how carefully the director and the VAs were when making this. You can tell how enthusiastic and how much effort was put into this. The actors, they show emotion. The best scene, in my opinion, is when Jounni has to deal with false accusations of abuse, and finds his sanity deteriorating. It also has multiple uncensored sex scenes that are about en par with the sex scenes in Devilman: Crybaby. I wasn't really sure what the demographic was, since it's just such a masterpiece, until I read a book about how this was made called Saigai Geijutsuka. It follows the two main Voice Actors, the ones for Jounni and Maruku, who are best friends in real life and have been living together since the late 90's. I also found out from this book that Jounni's VA not only acted, but directed, wrote, and produced the film as well. His name is Tommi Wishiou. Despite the anime being critically acclaimed, it never did very well financially, and Tommi wasn't really hired for anything. So, I encourage you to buy the DVD from this site, since it's not on Crunchyroll.

If anyone else has seen this anime, let me know because I'd really like some suggestions for similar anime.

OK, that's what I thought. That blu-ray set (the blue cover with Darth Vader's head on it) does NOT include the original, unaltered versions of the films. That's why it's so much cheaper.

It seems that the versions that include the unaltered films are all pretty expensive now -- Lucas probably won't re-release them :(

I strongly suggest seeing if you can RENT the unaltered versions, or borrow from someone who owns them, or download them. Or spring for the expensive set.

At the bottom of the main description on this Amazon page, you will see a list of all the released versions of the movies and which ones contained the original theatrical versions.

Good luck!

My favorite hobby has to be reading, I read every day...I have my own little study/library where I do all my work and even theme my shelves (during times of extreme organization).
My favorite movie is a tie between Gangs of New York (which I've loved forever and Lost in Translation, the second is such a subtle and beautiful film. My absolute x100000 dream job is to be a history professor and I am diligently working on it... two more semesters of Grad School and I will be one step closer to my goal. :D

Right now you can find that set new or used on Amazon for an exorbitant amount of money, with your link sold out these are hard to find. You can also find a Phase 2 set on Amazon for a decent amount. But to your question, I can see a Phase 3 set or a Marvel First 10 years set but I can see that First 10 year set running a grand easily. I can see a Phase 3 set running around $250 and the overall set running $500-$600 depending on the extras. I expect the case, like Phase One being the Tesseract briefcase and Phase Two being the Orb, being the Infinity Gauntlet. Just my thoughts anyway. I'm sure if Disney thinks they can make money on it they'll put it out. Though we probably won't hear anything about that till closer to the release of Avengers 4.

Wreck-It Ralph. (Used is fine).

I have not laughed at a kid's movie in so long and I saw this and couldn't stop smiling and laughing while watching it. I collect DVDs and would love to add this to my collection to share the joy of it with others. But seriously, have you seen it? It's hilarious.

u/hansorg · 1 pointr/dvdcollection

I personally don't believe there will never be an "unedited" original trilogy legally released on Blu-ray. At least not while George Lucas still draws breath. I would suggest buying this and being happy.

Because it's an awesome set. And let's face it. It's what the films are "intended" to be. Regardless of whether a vocal subset of the fan base agrees with those intentions or not.

Does he have a bluray player? The only set that contains all 6 movies is the recently released bluray set:
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Complete-Episodes-Blu-ray/dp/B003ZSJ212/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1323731301&sr=8-3

They're all still available on DVD, but you'd have to buy them separately if you want them new and don't want to spend way too much. Don't know how much you're looking to spend, but the bluray set is packed with features and you can find a decent BR player these days for like 50 bucks. Good luck!

u/Serial_Buttdialer · 3 pointsr/dogs

I think this is a great idea. /u/kestrellowing has been using a similar set-up for her Border Terrier puppy over the last few months, so might have a few pointers for you.

> She doesn't understand why I'd confuse a puppy with having the crate open sometimes and closed other times.

Both of my dogs are perfectly fine with this and have been since puppyhood. They would choose to go in and sleep even when they were very young, so having an open door sometimes and a closed door when I was either crate training or having to close them in didn't cause any problems.

> She also said she doesn't understand why I wouldn't just use a pen and introduce a crate later when we get rid of the pen.

Because crate training is really, really useful and some dogs can climb over pens even as tiny puppies (one of mine could from day one). Also, what if your puppy has to be boarded at a vet because of some kind of accident and has no crate training? What if you want to secure them in the car and they have no crate training? It has so many uses.

I wish I'd correctly used a pen for both of my dogs, especially the second one so that the older one could have had some more time away from him. I would also say if you do this, get a proper pen and not a flimsy thing for £20. Puppies are surprisingly strong!

Some recommendations for you: Susan Garett's Crate Games DVD and the umbilical tethering method, as well as both Before and After You Get Your Puppy by Ian Dunbar.

Amazon has the Marvel Phase 1 Set and Phase 2 Set

Ive got both of these.

The Phase 1 set is getting more and more difficult to come by hence the price. Both of them are pretty sweet though. They both come with replicas of S.H.I.E.L.D dossiers and trinkets from the movies like Scott Langs Basket Robbins name tag, an Avengers Patch, Steve Rogers medical files before and after he took the Super Soldier Serum.

Im sure a Phase 3 set is in the works eventually.

> I think Michael Bay was quoted somewhere saying he made movies more geared to teenage boys.

First off, let me state that I really don't care what people watch. I look at Michael Bay films as safely constructed roller coasters. As seen here the man has learned what bumps, twists, and turns he can use to engage an audience without challenging it. He reuses scenes and ideas in a way that no one ever notices and I think is a brilliant(if nihilistic) way to see guaranteed money.

Now, let me explain why I hate the, "I make movies for teenage boys" defense. It is completely dismissive of all the great art that has been made for adolescents. Seriously, most people don't stop and think about this, but there is some pretty incredible stuff out there. Here is a small list of some of the amazing work made for children and teens:

The Red Balloon

The Works of Winsor Mccay

Calvin and Hobbes

Looney Tunes

Princess Mononoke

Star Wars

The Horror Films Starring Vincent Price

Scott Pilgrim

Fullmetal Alchemist

People use the quote you supplied as a get out of jail free card for valid criticism and it drives me nuts. Like what ever you feel like, but don't be dismissive of discussion because of a pointless quote.

I realize that this is very late, but I was just looking into my copy again. I ran it through MakeMKV (http://www.makemkv.com/, which I use for ripping off the disc for use in a media center) and it warns me that the disc was authored with DvdFab/MacTheRipper. So it's definitely a bootleg. I wrote to Amazon this morning and left the seller negative feedback with the proof of it being bootleg. They wrote me back within a couple hours offering a full refund (even though I purchased it about 90 days ago).

It's worth running it through MakeMKV, or some other diagnostic software that will give you information about what software the discs were authored with. If you pass that along to Amazon, you may be able to get a refund. Then you can just wait until around Christmas when they come out with an Amazon exclusive Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack of the complete series with some limited edition art books for just under $90: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MMOZ1SS/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1LMR0VM22SWIP&coliid=I36WUJVZHWE88M

To clarify the question:

There are DVD releases that I have seen come out such as the Ultimate Matrix Collection and Lord of the Rings Extended Editions, that packed so many special features into the DVD set it made it fun to own DVDs again.

There are restorations that have come out such as the Wizard of Oz special edition that made the picture and sound so vibrant and clear that you could see the actual burlap pattern in the scarecrow's face. They digitally painted out any scratches or lines, literally one cel at a time.

There are DVD re-releases such as the entire Studio Ghibli collection (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, etc.) with amazing distribution and backing from Disney/Pixar and more specifically, John Lasseter that made the movies so accessible and "mainstream" with new English dubs from well known American actors that it literally introduced anime to a whole new generation of viewers.

I don't know anything about Criterion, but I would imagine they fit into this picture somewhere.

It sounds like he could really benefit from additional mental enrichment. Aussies are working dogs that need a job to do, not just physical exercise. He's bored - he needs his mind worked every day. These behaviors are cries for help, not a means of trying to make you crazy.

Is he crate trained? That is also a good way to manage his destruction. Check out Susan Garrett's Crate Games. Also use the idea that "nothing is for free." Make him work for every piece of kibble he gets (this is how he can get his meals) by either doing training or give him puzzle toys to work at. You can do things like make him a Snuffle Mat, or make/buy some other puzzle toys. It might benefit to also work on some impulse control and "it's yer choice" games.

It comes with the same appendices, but they are on DVD rather than Blu-Ray. Those discs won't look any better. It also comes with an additional "Behind the Scenes" DVD for each movie which appears to have a lot of the footage used to make the appendices, but also some new material.

The Japanese bluray has both Japanese and English audio, and has the correct, translated subtitles. It's region-free so it works in pretty much any player. It is expensive though, usually hovers around the equivalent of $45-55 USD + shipping. Only other downside of it is that the English audio track is not as high-quality as the Japanese track.

Otherwise, if you're willing to put up with DVD quality, the Miramax DVD release should be cheap to find. Again, it has both Japanese and English audio, and it actually has the correct subtitles AND the dubtitles (I think they're called "English for Hearing Impaired").

This thread might be useful to you; it lists the pros and cons of most blu-ray releases of Ghibli movies.

  • Silver Linings Playbook
  • Les Mis

My next purchase will most likely be Django Unchained for my boyfriend. That movie was incredible.

Imagine a movie where the script makes no sense, whatsoever. Imagine a film where you're certain that they picked the actors off the street at random to play the roles. Imagine that some of the lines are so bad, so nonsensical, so bizarre that you wonder what the director was thinking when writing this. Imagine that there are scenes that literally serve no purpose to the movie. Imagine awkward twists, plot devices that are brought up and then instantly dropped seconds after they're presented, and an actor change mid-film, with no hint at it whatsoever, leaving you to wonder who the random guy in the film is. Imagine realizing that you could hire some of the best minds in Hollywood to purposely create a god-awful movie, and their best attempts couldn't match it. Imagine, as vividly as you can, being infuriated at the notion that you spent nearly 100 minutes of your life watching what you earnestly believe was the worst piece of garbage to ever be captured on film.

Then, imagine your realization that not only does its horribleness compel you to watch it again, but you are now among the surprisingly large group of individuals who are fans of what many consider to be the greatest worst movie of all time.

Welcome...to The Room.

EDIT: Also, just surprise me if you pick me. :D

Even on blu-ray, the extended edition version of the films are are 2 discs. I don't think I've ever seen an extended edition on 1 disc.

The full trilogy with everything (included appendices) is on sale right now for $53.

You can also buy individual versions of each movie for pretty cheap ($8 right now) (no appendices).
