A few disclaimers:
I know I'm late to the punch, and I apologize. I also know I'm going to look like a crazy person for throwing so many items at you, so I apologize for that as well. I may also seem vaguely arrogant by the end of this, so please accept a third apology. I just like to take care of my electronics is all. My only credentials are anecdotal evidence that despite my rather rough job I've never even so much as cracked the screen on my cell phone so I like to think I'm pretty good at the "how do I prevent breakages" question.
Okay. So, I'm gonna rattle off a few items that I've bought for my own Switch, and my reasoning behind them. You DO NOT have to buy all of these items, but they are all useful on some level for the console.
The Joy-Con Controller If you're looking to get a second controller, start here. I'm sure you've figured out by now that one Joy-Con (JC) can be reconfigured to work as two controllers, so simply by buying a second JC you're now able to hit the 4-player local maximum for many of the Switch's games (including Mario Kart!). You can get the spouse, another kid, or even some friends playing during a party.
The Switch Pro Controller A more traditional-style controller. It's slightly cheaper and it's much more comfortable on large hands, but it CANNOT be split into two separate controllers like the Joy-Con can. Well, unless you get a saw or something but then it won't work at all anymore. Besides that it does function exactly the same as the standard JC controllers. There is also a wired version available that is even cheaper, but I personally have become spoiled in this wireless age and don't like cables dangling across my living room anymore.
Fitian Charging Dock for Joy-Cons Pretty self explanatory. Normally you charge your Joy-Cons by plugging them into the Switch, but if you have a second (or more) JC, it becomes a slight hassle to keep them all charged up. A charging dock can be a godsend. This is the one I use, simply plug it straight into your Switch Dock via USB.
FastSnail Joy-Con Grips There's a gazillion different versions of these things floating around, but these are the ones I personally use. I like them cause the shoulder L/R buttons are massive, and the grippy parts are really comfortable for extended use. Simply stick your Joy-Con halves into the plastic holders for a more comfortable grip. Holds them securely but they're still easy to pop back out as needed, no latches or screws or anything.
Orzly Carry Case ONE option for a carrying case. I was a little hesitant to recommend this particular item, but I may as well cause again, it's the one I use. The case itself is fine: durable, carries your Switch plus some games and accessories, and keeps them safe through your standards drops and bumps. However, if you fill it up as much as is shown in the pictures there on Amazon... At best you're gonna feel like you're mashing something, at worst you're gonna have trouble zipping it closed. What I've ended up doing is putting my Switch with an attached set of JCs, the games, and my adjustable stand (see next item) into the case, and then tossing the case plus whatever other particular accessories I need into my backpack. This case is NOT good to haul a lot of Switch stuff, JUST the console itself plus a handful of small bits for maybe a day trip or something. If you want to carry everything, look elsewhere. I've seen a few cases mentioned, but I can't recommend anything as I haven't tried anything.
Younik Compact Adjustable Stand I love this thing. If you're playing on the go and don't feel like holding it (and don't trust that stupid little kick stand on the back), you can unfold this thing and prop up the Switch on any flat surface for a much more comfortable viewing able. When you're done with it, you can fold it back flat and it fits nicely pretty much anywhere (like, for example, in the Orzly case I mentioned previously). Nintendo makes a first-party adjustable stand, but I actually like this one better. It costs a couple dollars less and feels sturdier. Its a luxury item to be sure, but it's nice to have when you want it.
Findway Protective Case A protective "jacket" for the Switch itself. I like this one because it snaps on and off of the Switch and JCs super easily, and is a sort of bendable plastic. Only 3 pieces: one for the tablet, and then one piece each for the left and right JCs. Easy to clean, too. Only drawback is that you HAVE to remove the jacket any time you want to dock the Switch in its charger. However, you're going to find that this is the case for any jacket that you want to buy for your Switch. You do NOT need to remove the jacket if you're simply sticking it in the aforementioned Adjustable Stand.
Pleson Tempered Glass Screen Protector Not much explanation needed here. I'm neurotic about getting screen protectors for all of my portable electronics, and I love the tempered glass ones. This one is cheap, it's durable, and it's easy to install with a steady hand. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend, even if only to keep your Switch looking nice through the wear and tear. You won't need to remove it for the dock, unlike the jacket.
I think that's everything for now. Again, I know it's a lot being thrown at you all at once, but you don't have to buy everything. This is all just stuff I've amassed for my own Switch that I've found useful or that I recommend. Pick and choose as you see fit. Feel free to shop around as well, these are just examples of all the particular items and there are MANY choices available for almost everything listed.
If you have any questions, I'm always happy to help.
It's not pretty lol. We tried to zip tie everything together to make it at least understandable haha
EDIT: Hijacking this post since there are a LOT of common questions. Oh and /u/smilenataliew is the wife :)
FAQ:
>How did you connect everything to the TV/What adapters did you use?
NES through Gamecube (bottom 4): We have a 4-input composite switcher (those Yellow/Red/White cables) between the N64 and Gamecube, connected to our TV's 3.5mm composite port (which looks like a headphone jack), which we convert with cables like these. We do not recommend a composite to HDMI converter, as the output (might) look garbled from older systems (it did for us).
Wii: Component cables to HDMI converter, then into a remote controlled HDMI switcher (switcher and controller can both be seen to the left of Kirby Amiibo/the Wii)
WiiU & Switch: HDMI to the same HDMI switcher
>Don't the controllers just fall out when you open the case? How are they secured?
The NES controller is resting on a WiiU controller stand, oddly enough!
The SNES controller is the most finnicky. It's slightly leaning back on its own cords, but it's hard to get it to stay put.
The N64 controller is leaned against a stack of N64 games--it's definitely the system my wife and I have the most games for already!
The Gamecube controller is leaning against two other stacked gamecube controllers.
The Wii controller is just just leaning up against a thick piece of cardboard (more cardboard is also holding up the NES and SNES systems since the bottom of their doors would block view of the systems otherwise. My wife intends to wrap all cardboard with contact paper to make it all more decorative, she's very crafty!)
The WiiU has the same controllers as the Wii, except for the screen one, which is on a stand that actually charges the unit while it sits on top of the WiiU system!
The Switch controller actually stands on its own with the joy cons connected to them, but I've decided to actually show the charging station we bought with the joy cons connected to it so that they'll always be charged and ready to go!
>Where are the games?
Behind the controllers! In fact the N64 controller is leaning on a stack of them.
>Cable management? Do you have controller extenders?
Lots of zip ties in the back, and as for controller cables, we bought ~100 of those velcro straps for cords so we can wrap them up for neat display storage without wrapping the cords around the controllers. We also have extension cords for all corded controllers since the consoles don't exactly come out of the unit!
>Where can I get the display case?
It's a piece of furniture so it's a bit expensive, but it's definitely what we wanted after searching for a couple weeks! It's on Amazon
>You could have just emulated it all!
I love having and playing on the original consoles, but emulation is also awesome!
>Where's the Virtual Boy?
It doesn't connect to the TV so I didn't feel the need to get it for this project, but I DO want it for my collection! (Also kids should wait a bit before they play with a 3D device, even the 3DS)
>Where's Nintendo's even older console, the Color TV-Game?/Where's the 64DD?
Those were released Japan only, but I might still want to get them! I believe the controller and the console for Color TV-Game are both one unit, and space is limited, so it might be tough to integrate it if I want to get it!
>Where's the TV? CRT??
Mounted on the wall above the mantle. Sorry, no CRT...yet.
>PHOTOSHOPPED!/I swear I saw this before!
lol why would anyone photoshop this? Definitely real. I'll provide a few more images if I can. And definitely my setup! Though I'm sure I'm not the first to do something similar.
>lol fake niece
The niece and story are real, but if I'm being perfectly honest this is more for me than her haha
For the 64, you should get Star Wars - Episode I - Racer. It's only the best racing game there is (I'm biased).
To combine Harry Potter and Doctor Who, why not get yourself a time turner?
For Science fiction in general, I would suggest starting watching Stargate Sg-1, but it turns out that it's free if you already have prime! The first season starts out a little rocky, but it gets really good pretty fast. If you can't stand the first episode, just start with Stargate Atlantis.
I saw you had a 101 Dalmatians game (well, 102), and remembered a point and click that my friends had that was really fun at the time. Note, that it only works on windows 95.
Finally, I just want to recommend The Curse of Monkey Island. It's humor and whit are unmatched by any except the first Monkey Island™ game. It's the third in the Monkey Island™ series, but it's the one I like to start people on because I like it's art the best and it's the first with voices.
As for me, for just under $30, I have a Nintendo GBA Flash Cart, or for just over $30 I have a Baofeng HAM Radio, to get started on a new hobby.
Since no one has posted an informative explanation about just what exactly "goes in there," here is everything you need to know to make an informed decision about which part you need.
The N64 shipped with a 4MB ram cartridge, called the "Jumper Pack." This is what came stock with every N64.
They look like this: http://imgur.com/UBEJfa3
Several years after the N64 launched, nintendo released what was called an "expansion pak." It was an 8MB RAM expansion that replaced the original "jumper pack"
The N64 "Expansion Pak" looks like this: http://imgur.com/68miFsX
Essentially, if you have an N64 that doesn't have anything in that slot, you want to purchase an "Expansion Pak" because every single game will work with it, and many games will even have enhanced resolution or additional game modes when used with it.
The stock "jumper pack" will not work with games such as Donkey Kong 64, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, or the single player portion of Perfect Dark, as they all require the upgraded "Expansion Pak"
Be sure and find a Nintendo Brand "Expansion Pak," because the third party ones have a tendency to be glitchy, and not last for very long.
Here is a list of vendors for the correct part you need from Amazon, starting at around $25 with shipping.

Good Luck
best result i got so far were kitsh-bent replacement bowls and gears. some of the pieces requires a bit of sanding, but an OG joystick with lubricated kitsch bent parts is the best you can get nowadays. cost about 5$CAD for a kit, and requires 30min of work to install.
https://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/n64-joystick-gears
Second best were optical style joysticks on amazon.
You could go old school with this Nintendo 64 24-Game Case, I need one! XP
This would be pretty cool for your controllers!
For more efficient storage these types of boxes would be perfect!
I'd like it to be chilly outside so we could use the fireplace. Bonus points if he has to chop a little wood. shiver dem arms.
I make a mean fettuccine Alfredo, so we'd probably eat that, or Pizza King. Pizza King for all the non Hoosiers, is pizza heaven, yummmmm.
We'd sit out a nice blanket in the floor, and load up some movies. I'd probably make him watch The Walking Dead with me, and I'd suffer through an episode or 2 of Breaking Bad for his sake.
We would have to play multi player used please Donkey Kong 64 He would probable beat me horribly, and the taunting would begin.I can't handle being tormented so I'd attack him. And we'd wrestle because its super fun. Then sexy times. I would decline alcohol on this night, because when I get tipsy he always tries to anal. And anal isn't involved in my perfect night in. But these NSFW items are
Lastly These ear plugs would be great. I'm at 3/4ths now and I don't have any stone, or bone plugs. Which means that my ears always smell, pores materials absorb the smell, but the ones I have don't, so I'm quite self conscious anytime my SO gets near my ears. I'd like to not freak out about it all the time.
Untrue by simply looking at it.
In reality the only successful madcatz perpherial was the madcatz analog steering wheel for the n64. It's the only time their prepherial was the best of the best. You basically had a cruisin usa cabinet at home.
If that's the way you feel, don't buy it. But I based my price on what Amazon had things going for, and the games in particular are expensive.
Saying it was 200 in the 90s is like saying a 68 mustang was 3 grand in the 60s. At this point the price goes up because Nintendo isn't making the games anymore and a lot have broken.
For reference:
Cheapest amazon N64 - $35 with no cables. Cheapest with cables is $45
Most controllers seem to be going for about $10-15 each, and I have 3
Cheapest used Super Smash Bros. - $53
Cheapest used Super Mario 64 - $28
Cheapest used Mario Kart 64 - $48
Cheapest used NFL Blitz - $13
Total cost: $207 + Shipping and handling to get the cheapest cost without factoring in condition.

Edit: some more games:
The box is definitely cool!
The case took me a while to find, but I couldn't recommend it more, it is perfect. I got mine here: amazon link although I'm sure there are other places that sell them.
The N64 uses 2 cables, a power cable and an A/V cable. The power cable is completely proprietary and unique to the N64 and it looks like this.
The A/V cable is a standard RCA composite (yellow-red-white) on one end. The other end is a proprietary connector shared by the N64 and Gamecube. If you have a Gamecube or find a Gamecube A/V cable, you can use it for the N64 as they use identical cables. It looks like this.
If you have a newer TV and it doesn't have composite input, you'll need to find some kind of adapter. Composite cables have 3 channels: left-audio (white), right-audio (red), and video (yellow). The audio channels (red and white) can be plugged directly into your sound system if you have RCA inputs, or they can be fairly easily adapted to whatever inputs your sound system has.
The video channel (yellow) might be more problematic. Your best bet might be to adapt from RCA to coaxel or s-video, if your TV has either of those inputs. If you're limited to HDMI and HD component (red-white-green-blue-red), search for "composite to HDMI adapter" or "composite to component adapter."
Depending on the adapter you get, you might not need to route the audio separately as I described above. Just note that it is an option available if necessity demands it.

Great game hope this helps. I found the link on my phone so hopefully it doesn't send u tote mobile mobile sight but amazon had a good amount new and used
one of the best racing arcade games for one of the best systems of all time
I find it much easier to just use one of these. This splits the signal for you straight out of the console, so you can plug S-video into the capture card and the composite end into the TV. You can then split the audio if you want, or put one audio channel into the TV and one in the card (in which case you'd have to make sure the audio is mixed to both channels), or both into the card (in which case you'd have to listen through your capture program). I do the latter.
I can give you some sample videos of what this looks like, recorded with Amarec/LAGS codec. For such a simple set of equipment you get about as good of quality as you're going to get out of a normal N64.
Its a little pricey so i would get it somewhere cheaper but Gaunlet Legends for N64 I loveeeee this game. we recently beat it for N64 and we are not playing the one for PS1 ;)
Can you surprise me? thank you!
How about Mario Kart 64? I see that you are collecting fun N64 games, and I always had tons of playing MK64. The graphics aren't the best, but that's part of the fun.
For Me: Anna mug!
I had this is as kid:
https://www.amazon.com/SharkPad-Pro-64-Controller-Clear-Purple/dp/B00000K4BT
It doesn't look like it's what you are looking for, though, since the buttons are colored. I enjoyed this controller while I had it. It was a bit thicker and felt better in my late-teen hands. The bad news was that it was typical 3rd party quality and wore out much quicker than a standard N64 controller. Knowing how they've all worn out now, that says a lot. Still, it is a clear case and is bulkier than a normal controller, which can be nice if you have larger hands.
Stick 'em Up on your dartboard:
Got Darts?
House Stark
Magic The Gathering
Hope you like one of these! This is what I want (if I win) a used copy of this classic N64 game
Krikzz sells them on amazon now too
EverDrive 64 v3.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CT397W7/
Just make sure he’s the seller and your safe!
He even directly links amazon on his official website
If you're in Europe, Scart is by far the best choice. It offers excellent video quality compared to what you get from RCA cables. However, if you are not in Europe, it is unlikely that your TV will support Scart. The next best option would be an S-Video cable which can be used with the majority of TVs in North America and other regions. It is a large step up from the signal carried over RCA, but it is not good as Scart. I use this one for my SNES: https://www.amazon.ca/Tomee-S-Video-Cable-Nintendo-GameCube/dp/B00HRJWCBC
Congrats! I got my own boxed copy a month ago. Please get a plexiglass case to preserve yours, as I did. We want these to last for many years to come.

Ha, I'll show him! I've got a copy of this and some friends that could be coersed. There WILL be Strip Podracing!
Actually it's going for super cheap over at Amazon by the Kritzz man himself here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B079X2HK7W/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new
https://www.amazon.com/EverDrive-64-v2-5-Nintendo/dp/B079X2HK7W
Take this one for example, you take a sd card and plug it in to your computer, download the roms of whatever games you wanna play, put them on othe sd card, and plug it into the top. I dont own one myself but there are proably guides online, and the one i linked supports pal games
Amazon also carries them. It's where I got my Mega Everdrive. This link states "Sold by krikzz and Fulfilled by Amazon." and Amazon is on the krikzz dealer page.

I usually just buy the used copies which are super cheap.
Jet force gemini for $2 + $4 shipping
I was thinking specifically of this listing, but you are right none of them are actually FBA. I do have enough cables that I have tested each and every one of them; thanks for the Craigslist advice though.
The sealed game is worth hundreds.

Hopefully you didn't open it.
Thanks for the tip. However, mine was without cables and controllers and that on Amazon goes for exactly what I sold it for on eBay. https://smile.amazon.com/Console-Cables-Controllers-Sold-separately/dp/B001NN8C80/ref=sr_1_7?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1485432806&sr=1-7&keywords=nintendo+64+console
Yeah, you'll need the expansion chip to play Majora's Mask or Donkey Kong 64. Here's where you can get it: http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-64-Expansion-Pak/dp/B00000INR2
After my cousin broke my original controller I used this, and this and was happy with both.
I'd also recommend checking out:

Banjo-Kazooie
Yoshi's Story
Mario Party
The not cheap, but really cool solution.

I bought the 4 pack a while ago but they also have a 2 pack. I use them most of the time I play.

It's like $15 plus shipping.
The Turtle Beaches are going for around $30 used on Amazon. Mario Party 2 is going for around $22, Mario Party 1 is around $16, 007 is around $8. I can't really justify throwing in Dead Island too.
Yeah, for the regular switch. I found this one which seems to be a generic version of the same product, any thoughts? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0723HP6GB

If you decide to get it, you are going to need the expansion pak for majora's mask if your n64 does not already have it.

simple fix my man
sold right by Krikzz on Amazon.ca, 160 Canadian dollars -- https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B079X2HK7W
You can find them here for 20 bucks and probably cheaper elsewhere. I got mine for 10 bucks on ebay. The problem with handing one out is that the person that did that wont be able to play such classics as Donkey Kong 64 or GoldenEye (i think)...
edit: word
No, I meant expansion pak.
Krikzz sells them on amazon
As for roms search for N64 no intro set or N64 goodsets
