Disclaimer: I am only speaking from my experiences and what has worked for me.

So, I know this is going to sound strange, but you don't actually need as much protein as normally recommended for weightlifting on a vegan diet. Don't get me wrong, protein is vital for proper athletic performance; but the 1 gram protein per pound of bodyweight has largely been debunked, it's closer to .8-.9 grams protein per kilogram body mass. That being said, the best sources of protein are legumes, with my personal favorite being tempeh; which is fermented soybeans. It has a nice crunch, a slightly nutty flavor, and it's easy to digest. Here is a list of all the best foods to help ease your transition:

  • Vivo Life Protein Powder (If you want to make sure you hit your protein macros. It's the brand that sponsors the vegan YouTubers. I think it tastes better than whey protein personally).
  • Legumes (beans and lentils of all colors. I like kidney beans and hummus. Lentils are probably better for you specifically because they have slightly less environmental impact than beans)
  • Veggies (avocados are fairly calorie-dense, although technically they are berries, and you can't forget the cruciferous)
  • Leafy greens (make sure to cook spinach thoroughly to help remove the oxalates)
  • Fruits
  • Grains (oats, rice, Ezeikill bread is awesome, made from sprouted grains, and is perfect for avocado toast)
  • starchy veggies (sweet potatoes are a must. if you can, try to find the okinanwan (sometimes Hawaiian) purple kind.)
  • Don't forget seaweed for iodine if not using iodized salt.
  • nuts and seeds (flaxseed and hemp seed go very good in oatmeal, also great for calories)
  • supplement D3 (if you don't get a lot of sun), B-12 (I like this liquid one on amazon), and Omega-3 (Here's a good one that's cranberry and orange-flavored).

    The supplements aren't wholly necessary in the beginning, especially if you're still drinking cow's milk and eating fish. But they will be if you want to transition to vegan long term.

    Here are few vegan bodybuilders I like:

    Simnett Nutrition: Awesome mostly calisthenics guy who does a lot of cooking/nutrition videos.

    Nimai Delgado: More of a classic bodybuilder channel. Some days of eating, some training, some travel vlogs, etc. His physique is absurd tho.

    Vegan Physique: This is the guy where I learned that protein isn't all that difficult to get on a vegan diet. He also has some good meal preps.

I used to play rhythm games for long periods of time, a lot. One time I did a 40 hour marathon challenge (with a few naps), so when it comes to vision, blinking, and such, I can understand a concern.

Foremost what has had the greatest beneficial effect for me was using a nightlight filter. A real one- ones that require root for to install for app permission or the built in ones for both iOS/Android. There are a couple issues with this though. First, it's something you'll have to adapt to. You'll likely hate it at first as with most people. Second, for rhythm games in particular, there will be a small (within ms) screen delay). Huge issue if you hit notes primarily through your visual senses. Personally for me, with SIF I don't have much issue because my.reflexes are mostly internal rhythm judged. Besides, I have -26ms offset and the "judgement" line for this game is already so off from center.
On Android, rooted CFlumen on a proper phone does not have latency as I have personally confirmed. However, the colors are not as accurate as F.lux (which is probably the best filter out there). I haven't tested iOS night light so I can't confirm if there's latency or not.

Anyways, I'm off on a tangent right now; my apologies. For vision/eyes, I drink a single gulp of water after every song; and blink a bit right before a song starts. Pretty simple so and I'd recommend anyone make it a habit.

Vision doctors claim that for around every 20m or so, look in a straight direction at something (I believe 20ft) away for 20 seconds making sure you blink often during this period. You can also do 30ft/30s.

Another very helpful change I made was adjusting screen brightness to levels around my surrounding enviornment. Generally, the method I use is to have the brightness as low as it can, and make small steps up until you can just barely begin to see stuff. I also do this in a similiaf fashion with Flux, except instead of brightness, it is with ambient color temperatures.

I also use eye drops, but I'm not sure how effective it is. I don't want my eyes to rely on them. However when I do use them, I drop them into an eye, look at 4 corners of that eye, blink a few times while in process, and then repeat for the other eye. Afterwards, I repeat the exact same process with both eyes open at the same time

As for supplements for healthy vision, I still need more research on that. Omega fish oil and Vitamin A? I don't remember. I've tried this in the past. However since there are so many factors contributing to healthy vision, it was hard for me to evaluate

Warm towel on your face helps a bit.

I think what can help the most is to simply do something else temporary that doesn't require narrow vision. Like looking at the sunset is a good one because it's kind of a mix between a couple paragraphs posted above. Helps your eyes non-tunnel as well as helps your brain recognize changes of natural color temperatures.

Anyways that's all I can think for right now. If you are having hard stress on your eyes mid song make sure you're breathing as fluidly as much as the amount of mental pressure you are projecting, if that makes sense.

Oh also, SIF deals primary with colors and shapes during gameplay. Make sure to read text on frequent occasions during the week. This may sound like I'm pulling stuff out of nowhere, but believe me on this one, if you can.

Also one more- good posture. Try to maintain good eye level on your phone. Honestly though, one should aim for good posture not just for eyes, but all your other muscles as well (this includes a good symmetrical grip on your phone as well.)

Here's another one. If you have a lousy phone, I'd prioritize getting one that can maintain stable 60 fps Often, you don't notice lower framerates than intended until you experience the difference yourself.

Oh, here's another one- glasses/contacts. You generally don't want to wear your glasses all the time (although this is debatable between Optometrists).(Contacts you should never wear 24/7 unless they are designed particularly for it). Don't always play SIF wearing glasses. Split it into sections like, half of it with, and the other half without. In my biased opinion, I'd try to play without glasses as much as possible until my natural vision within phone distance becomes just as good as with glasses.

As someone with mood issues most of my life, I can relate, but it sounds like you have something more going on then just depression.

Depression with agitation and suicidal ideation can be indicative of anything from bipolar spectrum to autism spectrum to just simply needing a vacation, and requires a proper diagnosis (hence why you should figure this out in therapy before taking drugs or supplements for that matter).

The fact SSRIs are making you more agitated in a different way is also counter intuitive to the issues you're trying to address, and as I said will likely get worse the longer you keep taking meds. At most you likely need herbs or something mellow to help calm you down, and help you relax, not amp you up.

You clearly have a lot on your plate with kids, and wife. So what you need to figure out is what is the source of your agitation?

Are you stressed out? Not enough money? In debt? Not sleeping enough? Poor diet? Too much fast food? Burnt out from work? Need to rekindle things with your wife? (No need to answer these publicly, just something for you to think about.)

You need to ask yourself these kinds of questions and figure out what is going on. Taking substances to solve your problems isn't going to actually solve them, even if they're from a doctor.

That's why meditation is so important, it gives your mind the ability to take a break, as well as allows you the ability to tap into your intuition and focus on whats really important to you. I really recommend a meditation application that can help guide you through the process. I personally use Headspace but theres a few others out there that are free.

As for your psychiatrist, they are in the business of pushing drugs on people. That's their job, that is what you're paying them for, so keep that in mind. Trust your intuition, and listen to your body. If something doesn't feel right to you, then pay attention, and don't just disregard it.

As for a psychologist, a month is not enough time to determine anything. If you don't like your psychologist then find another one. It could take a few different psychologists to find one you like, try mixing things up. If your current psychologist is a man, maybe try a woman? Or vice versa. I tend to do better with female therapists for some reason, not sure why.

Anyhow, it might take months or even years of therapy to work through some issues, there is no easy fix, and you should be suspicious of anyone who claims to have an easy fix.

Everything I'm recommending to you is hard, from meditating daily, to working out, and eating properly. These things take determination, and follow through.

When it comes to food, this is also a major one. For example, I cannot eat a lot of carbs or sugar, or caffeine. Stimulants make me agitated. I now mostly just eat organic meats, salads, and veggies. No breads, pastas, processed foods, fast food, etc. I drink herbal teas now, and when I'm tired I meditate, or nap instead of trying to push through it. Sleep is also critical to mental health and needs to be prioritized. It's amazing how much better your brain functions when you're actually relaxed.

As for supplements, if you are going to take anything, I would highly recommend omega-fatty 3 acids with vitamin d. The recommended doses are typically pretty low, and for more severe cases like yours its better to take higher doses. The recommended dose is 2 per day, but it wasn't enough for my brain. Anything over 4 per day and I start to get a little dizzy, so you might have to play around with it and find what works for you. Omega fatty 3 acids have been shown to reduce agitation in some individuals (although they don't work for everyone).

Anyhow, good luck, and let your wife know you're working on it and committed to figuring this out and just need some time. Let her know the drugs may not be the best option and you're looking for other solutions. Show her that you care, and are working on it, and most importantly let her know that not only are you doing this for her, but yourself as well.

I generally try to keep changing it up, switching between one type of stimulant or another, gauging my complimentary supplementation based on how I feel.

The one thing I do always use would be GoL Better Brain, which has the perfect ratio of bacopa to vinpocetine--an important ratio, indeed.

For emergencies (i.e. any sort of serious loss of focus or resultant brain fog hitting me in the middle of the day) I keep both fasoracetam and noopept on hand in the same compartmentalized container, along with the necessary red and blue microscoops that streamline the dosing process. I'm always a short snort away from a more fulfilling intellectual experience, if my best efforts to set up the current parameters for the day are found wanting. Noopept is a great drug for banishing the brain fog that arises from overstimulation (except with tryptamines) since its function hinges mainly on inhibitory processes.

Fasoracetam, on the other hand, is one of my favorites for the opposite reason of noopept. Faso is great for when you could use more stimulation but aren't looking for a simple cardio-stimulant. I rate Faso the highest of all racetams for working memory, which is something that I struggle with often. The Fasoracetam-aided respites from my normal difficulties allow me to see certain situations much more clearly, or just to do a lot of math or other tasks that require a large and stable capacity for working memory.

A friend of mine recently involved himself in a Tibetan Medicine vendor that's actually proven very effective among the products I tried. The Bimala and the meditation water are two very interesting and unique products, with very unique interactions to normal supplements and drugs, and on their own.

Regular bacopa supplementation will result in an increased predisposition towards racetams, which means that as long as I take it I'm charged and ready for a powerful response to piracetam at a moment's notice. It's a worthwhile boost in capacity.

Hey Ladies- I've been at it since my late 20's and now I've just turned 40. Im not in love with 40 atm - that's because of romantic issues. Maybe I'm being a snob. I'll make a post about it later.

Here are my tips:

It's starts from the inside out.

Water water water water.
Drink your freaking water! No juice. No soda. No Starbucks.

Fish oil with high EPA and DHA. I personally go for Norwegian Gold Critical Omega - Omega 3 fish oil supplement - burpless - brain and heart health - 60 softgel capsules - a Renew Life brand

Control your sugar intake. This is a huge issue for me. I love the treats and that's not a great thing. I have found B12 to be an awesome helper in this but I'm looking for something stronger.

Sex. Yes. I said it. Set your dick appointments because sex helps you look younger.

Exercise you enjoy. For me it's yoga and horse back riding.

Now as for foundation and primer. I have PCOS. So I do get cystic acne.

I use retin-A. Prescribed by my doctor.

I have found that NYX angel primer to be my absolute favorite. It goes on and blurs, erases pores and does the thing.

As for foundation what works for me is Maybelline Foundation stick. I buff it in with a brush.

I really like Colourpop's creme blush in "drop of a hat". It's coral with a golden sheen. Blends beautifully.

My routine is:

AM:

Cetaphil cleanser with my Clairsonic
Le Creme Rose water and hydroponic acid spray.

Then I do my make up. My skin is still oily- so lucky if I don't need moisturizer. If I do I use Clinique's yellow moisturizer.

PM:

Ponds cold cream, the take it off with Le Creme Rose Water face wipes.

Cetaphil cleanser with Clairsonic again.

Retin-A followed by argan oil moisturizer. Sally's has one for $12 and Josie Marin has one for $40. I haven't seen a difference on either so I opt for the $12 one.

I also do a Korean skin care mask once a week. I like Tony Moly the best. But I have to get through a bunch more before I can reorder.

And I have an emergency night time water pack mask by tony moly for extra dryness.
Every night I use a coconut lip balm on my lips.

Sometimes I use Bae Body's eye tightening gel if I want the puffiness to go down.

Ok...Here we go! This is a very relevant topic to me so get ready for a long reply ha!

I have cystic acne that only came up after going off of birth control a year ago. I've tried SO MANY things, but nothing worked! It wasn't until we started TTC when I was taking more vitamins that it finally got better, but it was still not great.

I found a routine that keeps it in check though and it involves Manuka Oil! My skin is in the best shape it has ever been! So here is what I found that works for me:

AM: I wash my face with Era Organics Natural Face Wash. About 3x per week I use their scrub. Then mix a little bit of Manuka Oil with CeraVe AM Moisturizer then apply Bare Minerals powder concealer.

PM: I remove my make up as soon as I get home from work with Micellar Cleansing Water and wash with the Era Organics face wash. Then I put a little bit of organic sweet almond oil along with the manuka oil on a cotton round and apply that to my face to moisturize. Sometimes I'll swap out the almond oil for CeraVe PM moisturizer, but the almond oil seems to help a little better.

Along with this routine, I take 30 mg of zinc and the recommended dose of vegan DHA every day, 5000 IU of vitamin D M-F, along with my prenatal. But I swear by the zinc. Here is a little information on why zinc helps with acne.

As for my chest and back (I get pimples there too but not cystic) I've been putting witch hazel and manuka oil on a cotton round every morning/evening and it has really helped clear it up! Granted I just started this routine a week ago so I hope it continues!!!

For someone who has struggled with this to the point of tears, I finally feel like I have it under control!!

You sound like you may have been around the block, but for whatever it's worth, people close to me had the most success ameliorating their depression with:

  1. Prescribed pharmacology.
  2. Cognitive Behavioral therapy. If there was a single killer technique (and there wasn't, it's a set techniques, but the single most effective...) was writing down three positive things from the day, every night before bed. Doesn't matter how insignificant, from "I got married today" to "Didn't rain", so long as they are genuine positives. The mere act of thinking about them helps encode the idea that life isn't a big shit heap after all.
  3. Cardiovascular exercise. Endorphins, yo.
  4. A structured daily routine, and sticking to a healthy sleep pattern, including taking in the early morning/dawn, as well as unwinding from all the computer screens and active behaviour an hour before bed, if possible.
  5. Ear plugs! It's nuts, but this was the biggest bang-for-buck on the list. They're like $3 a month and result in much deeper, less interrupted sleep (in my friend at least). Depressed people can lie asleep for 16 hours without getting any rest. These are the best, in my opinion.

    None of these were a cure, but they helped make life feel like a good thing a lot more.

Not sure about the box of snacks, but the vitamin gummies they got looks like Lil Critters Gummy Vitamins, which is also probably available in drugstores. I actually ate these myself as a kid, they're kinda yummy.

Hehe yeah, sounds nice :) If you're in good physical shape and young you don't need more than the basic supplements imo.

Lots of people take double your vitamin d dose, you should probably get some stronger pills. 2000-4000 IU is the usual dose, some people take even more than that, but you can't exactly know how much you need unless you get tested. I would recommend 4000 IU for you.

The thing with supplements is that it's really worth getting some higher quality stuff, because with the cheap ones they try to cut every corner and they don't care if the product works properly or not. If you are from USA you can get some very high quality Solgar supplements from amazon for like a third of the price they cost here.

So I can only share my own experiences... I managed to survive with low prodromal symptoms undiagnosed until my mid 30's. I am high functioning, and off medication and working in a high income field. I think it delayed due to several factors

* Omega 3 fish oil and fish in general https://www.livescience.com/51812-omega-3-prevent-schizophrenia.html . You need to do research on omega-3 purity and brands, and pick one with enough DHA and EPA for a therapeutic dose. What's surprising that just taking it for a few months appears protective for years later. No word on whether it can treat it if you already have it, but if the disease has progression it makes sense if it can delay the initial psychosis it should delay subsequent psychosis. Therapeutic dosage seems to be 2000 mg, and there's even fish oil with 3000 mg. Check with your doctor to make sure since it's a blood thinner.

* Low stress and low expectations. Schizo isn't a disadvantage in fields like math and writing or any other field with low social expectations. Your niece will need to support herself when she's older. Put as much science, math, language and art as possible into her. If she can get good at math she can get a high paying career in any number of fields later in life. Money matters and lowers stress. Also, try to get her officially diagnosed with a disability, so she can access learning resources and help later in life.

What is helping me now

* Exercise, particularly weightlifting for men. Schizophrenics live 10-20 years less on average because they don't take care of their bodies -- that won't be me. If she can become a gym rat somehow, she will avoid one of the major issues with schizophrenics -- poor muscle tone and subsequent legarthy and maybe even negative symptoms. I am not sure if someone as young as 13 can start weightlifting. Another issue is she's a woman. Schizophrenic men seem to do better if they have more testosterone and paradoxically schizophrenic women may need something completely different. Maybe cardio for women and running rather than weightlifting.

* Diet. Eating less carbs and more meat helps a lot. Check out the ketogenic diet https://www.ketonutrition.org/blog/2019/1/21/the-ketogenic-diet-for-schizophrenia . The more serious it is the more you could go for 0 carbs and 0 sugars... all meat, all fat. Obviously should check with your doctor first before starting this.

So yeah I would check with doctor first then buy a very good omega 3 (look for consumer reviews http://consumer.nutrasource.ca/ifos/product-reports/ maybe something like https://www.amazon.ca/See-Yourself-Well-Omega-Liquid/dp/B005GC8SGU then try it. Then enroll in activities... maybe weightlifting, maybe cardio, maybe dancing. Finally keep an eye on her grades and put her in a money making profession where non-perfect social skills aren't an issue and she can use her problems to her advantage... lots of math, art and so on. Then ask your doctor and your nutritionist if she can start a special diet of mostly meat and fats and 0 carbs.

So yeah if you want her to succeed it will take a lot of work, a lot of time and a lot of loving. Eventually, she might be able to taper off medication under medical supervision (tapering is lowering a tiny amount each week, it takes special tools you can't just break the pill in half yourself NEVER stop cold turkey because it will be a massive shock).

I noticed serious brain fog about two weeks in. Luckily, it subsided after about a week. It honestly just felt like my body was getting used to the medicine. I upped my water intake (about a gallon a day) and have felt fine ever since. The only thing is that I am more tired at the end of the day... but don't stress too much! I work in a fast paced, numbers oriented office and can still focus perfectly fine. Just make sure that you are hydrated and getting enough sleep. :)

I also exercise 3-4 times a week and have experienced no joint pain whatsoever. I'm still able to lift weights without a problem. I do use supplements tho: fish oil, and glucosamine chondroitin, so this may partially be why I am A ok? My derm approved both for use.

Sports Research Is on this list with an IFOS tag. They are without a doubt, hands down, the best bang for your buck, AND their fish oils are of triglyceride form, which means you're getting all the brain benefits as well.

I don't know an optimal dosage/ratio. This page is another good resource. Personally I take 250-500mg of Jarrow Formulas Citicoline, CDP Choline, 250mg, 120 Count. CDP-Choline is 18.5% choline by weight (vs Alpha-GPC at 40%), so that's about 46-92mg of choline, but it also contains the cytidine, which converts into uridine. It's definitely more expensive, but I think the benefits are worth it. I don't take racetams, but I know some people increase their choline intake when doing so due to possible depletion causing headaches, etc.

Regarding fish oil, I take 2000mg of Pure Alaska Omega-3 Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil 1000mg Softgels 180-Count, which contains 220mg DHA and 180mg EPA per serving (400mg Omega-3). Some people take more concentrated forms to get more Omega-3, but I prefer the sort of whole food approach. It's important to note the distinction between 1g fish oil vs 1g of Omega-3. Keep that in mind when making comparisons and doing research to determine your goals.

I’m not familiar with the combination, but I’m the kind of vegetarian who occasionally eats fish and takes fish oil supplements. Omega 3 is very important and can’t really be replaced with vegetables, although algae omega 3 algae omega 3 is a possible substitute, though it’s a bit more expensive.

Personally, I’ve been vegetarian/pescatarian for the past 17 years, and I’ve found I feel best when I eat more fat (olive oil, butter, whole milk yogurt). Try not to substitute meat with carbs. Better to substitute meat with plant/animal fats and veggies.

My [old] assumption was that fish oil was more or less a commodity and therefore I did not care about brand much as long as it was cheap. I kinda changed my mind a few years ago after I met a tri-athlete friend who works for an OTC manufacturer.

Aside from being a super-finicky eater, he also got to pick virtually anything he likes from the world of supplements - no matter how exotic or expensive. That's why I asked him the question of which one he'd pick if he could have ONLY one. He answered "fish oil". Then after I told him that as far as I was concerned, when it came to supplements, I more or less bought the cheapest type, I challenged him to convince me why a skeptic like me would pay the extra premium for the brand he recommended which is available at... Costco ... "Pure Alaska Omega" made from "wild Alaskan salmon". [ You can also order it from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Pure-Alaska-Omega-Natural-Omega-3/dp/B0024LWRIQ ]

He explained that the source being wild salmon caught up in Alaska means that they don't have the existing amounts of mercury or PCBs ... unlike other sources that do (and need to be heat distilled etc). I was wondering how they could extract oil from what is a pretty damned expensive gourmet product so he explained the producers have a relationship and joint venture with one of the largest fish processors up in Alaska called TRIDENT http://www.tridentseafoods.com/ . Apparently, the highest concentrations of DHA and EPA oils are in the heads which were normally trashed or converted into fish meal products like pet food and fertilizer. The JV company has a special barge with a fish oil processor onboard that intercepts the freshly-caught salmon before they are unloaded at the Alaskan fishery, lops off the heads, converts it into oil (similar to cold-pressing olive oil) and the rest of the salmon is sent to the fishery for processing.

Because there aren't existing PCB or mercury contamination issues, they don't need to heat-distill the fish oil. Combined with the fact that the fish weren't semi-rotting in the boat on the way to the fishery as it is supposed to be the case with sardine, anchovy, and menhaden (the source of most other fish oils on the market) which are generally caught in more temperate climes ... it means you don't get the stale fishy taste or after-taste issues... and that was probably my main complaint about fish oil supplements. You still definitely need to take them with meals - preferably during ... not just immediately afterwards.

Supplements and a bunch of pills is not necessary. I read this guy's book and he pretty much lays it out for ya. He recommends only Gainers and Protein Shakes. Pills and such are just a way to empty your wallet fast!

A lot of people on this sub really like this Gainer and this "Gold Standard Whey" ... Fish Oil is a De-inflamatory and helps to reduce muscle soreness. Those are the three I use.

Search this subreddit if in doubt, and do some research. Unfortunately a lot of the crap online is catered toward helping fat people loose weight. Find communities (like this one) and get advice straight from the skinny guys who have gotten bigger.

And if you're diet doesn't include every vitamin, start taking multi vitamins. You must be healthy, not just mad. Initially since you weigh 100Lbs you may want to do the Seefood diet: You see food, you eat food.

DO NOT GIVE UP! I let work get me down last year (working 150+hours a week) and stopped lifting. All I had time for was running. I finally got back into lifting this month. I could be pretty set right now if I kept at it.

My take on this is that you'd probably be better off buying a really high quality non-prescription fish/krill oil (krill is nice because you usually get astaxanthin along with EPA and DHA). If you get them from the right place, you can even get them from a store that refrigerates them so there's less of a chance of them being oxidized.

So my latest thought is why aren't more people vegan? Like there's so many people who feel bad for all of the animal cruelty in the world in the food industry, makeup industry, and tons more. It's much easier then people think and it bothers me that it's not emphasized more in society. Even though the diet transition could be challenging at first, the difficulty is temporary and there are so many supplements if people are worried about not getting all of their daily nutrients. I use them myself and they're a big help to my vegan diet.

As others have already pointed out eating meat even once a month won't be cost effective if you were to eat enough of it to get the vitamins and minerals in a high enough concentration. Absorbability is also a concern in this case as you run into the same issues as taking a multivitamin (some things such as calcium and iron can't be absorbed at the same time).

All you really need to supplement is B12. Also D3 if you live in a colder climate. For optimal health adding a tablespoon of ground flax seed and a EPA/DHA omega-3 supplement. Everything else (such as iron and calcium) you'll get enough of if you're eating a balanced diet (whole grains, beans, leafy greens, etc.).

You can prolly look around on Amazon. In terms of brain development/health alone, DHA is the only Omega that really matters. Though ALA does convert to DHA, not very much of it does.

True, I have looked at this one algae product that seems promising, but is (probably, rightfully) expensive.

Are you aware of any alternative brands?

I'm also not sure if the levels of DHA and EPA are sufficient in this particular bottle.
