I might be able to help you here. I had the G933 Artemis Spectrum headphones. They were alright — I didn’t realize at the time that I had to have them hooked to a PC in order to take advantage of the virtual surround sound, so I never got to experience that with the PS4.

I decided I would invest some money into getting a really good pair of headphones after that, but I wanted to get a unicorn... something that was good for music, movies, and games. I settled on an open back pair that had incredible reviews for the price tier. And, I spent over $300 on it just over a year ago... but you can get the same model (it’s the Philips Fidelio X2/HR) for only $122 on sale on Amazon Prime right now. I think that’s a killer deal for these, and they’re HiRes also in case you like to listen to premium, high bit rate formate stuff.

They’re incredibly comfortable and have a ski goggle style design, so you could have a head the size of a watermelon and they’d cradle on it gently. Open back, big sound stage. Great quality cable, too. They’re wired though, but I really like that they’re the kind where the jack is on the headphones themselves so if the cable ever fails you can replace it and not have to replace the whole headset. So what I did is I bought a V-Moda Boom Pro Mic that plugs directly into the headset and has a flexible boom mic and a volume dial w/ mute switch on the cable, and then you plug that into the PS4 dualshock or computer. You don’t need to buy a headphone amp/DAC to power them either, which is nice.

I wasted money buying one of the Astro A40 MixAmp Pro TR boxes so I could get the virtual Dolby surround, but I wouldn’t bother. Instead, I prefer to just run a long cable from my home theater amp/receiver’s headphone out, since that’s basically one huge amp/DAC anyway, and you can drive these things up to some serious volume. You also get a much better quality sound with them and the mic combo, versus buying a gaming headset (where they jack up the price quite a bit).

If you’re looking for a wireless option, you could check out the Steel Series Arctic Pro — that link is for the one with the game DAC with DTS Headphone X and you can use it on the PC and PS4 (for $199), or the wireless version for $315. I’ve heard a lot of people say these are pretty good but I’ve not heard them myself. If you’re looking for something cheaper, maybe the HyperX Cloud for $100ish.

I recently picked up a pair of in ear buds also — the 1MORE E1010 Quad Driver for $170 that come with a little Fiio A1 headphone amp. They’re pretty nice so far, I’ve been playing “Death Stranding” with them.

I’d check out /r/headphones and you could also read the sidebar over at /r/headphoneadvice and make a post detailing the exact setup and price range and what you’re looking for and have people make recommendations. Also in the sidebar there are some popular model headphones, amps, and mics. I think most people will tell you that buying a good pair of headphones and adding the mic is better (either the VModa BoomPro or there’s another that sticks to the side of the cup like a magnet for the same-ish price). You’ll get better sound than a gaming headset, and more for the money. And you can use those savings to buy a headphone amp/DAC if you want also, which will boost the volume and bass and maybe even give you virtual surround if that’s something you feel like you really need.

I know this is long, but I figured since I was familiar with what you’d used previously (the G933s) and was on a similar hunt not so long ago, I’d share my findings with you. If you find a great set and you happen to remember, hit me up and let me know what you grabbed so I can maybe try to demo them somewhere for myself. And if you do buy the Phillips Fidelio X2/HRs from Amazon, you could always listen to them a bit and send them back if they’re not for you. But I think you’ll be pretty impressed. I definitely was, at twice the price they’re going for now. Good luck!

Budget

Price isn't much of a factor. Mainly looking for a good price to quality ratio.

Source

PC gaming and casual use

Requirements for Isolation

Don't need it to be perfectly isolated but I enjoy being "immersed" in good sound quality when listening to music or playing games.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public?

No

Preferred Type of Headphone

I'm a headphone noob and am not sure about all the terms, but I have been using these audio technica for almost 2-3 years now and although they're still holding up really well, they're dirty and peeling off. I don't mind if it is a specific gaming headphone as I use my camera mic. I do plan on getting an external mic to attach on the headphone if it does not already come with one. Now, this might sound pretty lousy, but I like sleek and solid looking headphones. I don't doubt that the sound quality is amazing, but I'd like to have something that has an appealing look to it. I've done some research and really like the look of the steel series model. The $350~ one looks great but unless it is actually worth that much, I'd rather look elsewhere.

Preferred tonal balance

Just looking for all around headphones.

Past headphones

Audio technica ath m50x - After all these years, it is still incredibly comfortable and doesn't feel too heavy on my head. The overall immersion I get from it is meh, but it has lasted me this long.

Beats studio wireless - Not sure if everyone still hates beats, but I loved these pair of headphones (before someone broke into my car and stole them lol). They are incredibly comfortable, very immersive and are sleek/stylish. I'd even consider getting these for my pc but not unless there is better.

Preferred Music -

Anything really. I have songs from different genres in my playlist, but mostly just hip-hop stuff.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up

Overall great headphones and maybe an external mic

u/BennyBlades44 · 2 pointsr/steelseries

These headphones made me better at COD and thats coming from Astros which are regarded as some of the best 7.1 headphones you can get. The astros have more bass and more of an immersive feeling like the surround sound is louder and more enveloping, but the steelseries high end is so clear and precise that I can tell exactly what direction sounds are coming from. Its def a competitive advantage and I regularly get accused of cheating now lol. If I was rich Id probably use the steelseries for fps games and the astros for more story type games like horizon zero dawn or god of war lol. Also, I know its ridiculous to spend more money after spending so much on headphones but if you grab the wicked cushion m50x earpads off amazon or ebay you will be soooooo glad you did. they fit like a glove and boost the bass a bit. They also open the soundstage some. They also really make the headphones feel more premium and comfortable. With the wicked cushions all the preset eq’s sound amazing and like they should instead of them all sounding tinny and missing something. With the stock earpads its almost like they take away from the sound quality and you have to crank the bass too high and it sounds muddy. I put a review on amazon with a photo if youre curious!. I just re read the review and all the reviews above mine saying the same thing as you about not being impressed with the sound and what not when right under them is my post pretty much saying how to fix the problem lol. Here is a link its like the 8th one down. Once these babies are dialed in theyare phenominal! Good luck my friend!!

Here's what I currently use. So far, they have been awesome! Only wire is to the controller itself (3.5mm no adapter needed). They're super comfortable. My only complaint is that you do have to adjust the volume through the xbox settings, but once you get everything to your like, the sounds is pretty awesome.

It's been a great purchase for the price I paid for them:

I don't want to make a whole list of recommendations, but I do have to chime in with the Afterglow AG9 I originally bought this headset to use with my PS4 and it was great for that. One day I decided to stick the Bluetooth dongle in my PC, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it worked perfectly fine.

u/DaveFalcon73 · 1 pointr/xboxone

I'm an audiophile too, have a pair of ATH-M50x and also have the ATH-AG1 and ATH-ADG1 and love them to bits for gaming, they have the swivel boom mic on, extremely comfortable to wear, extremely light but they are a bit big and bulky on your head.

That said I also have TurtleBeach (a number of headsets). If you're looking for a small/lightweight headset then you can't go wrong with either Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare or the cheaper Recon 100. Turtle Beach are really good from an audio quality perspective, 50mm Neodymium drivers, you won't get any better quality usually going for the more expensive Turtle Beach models other than extra bells and whistles like surround sound, super human sound etc.

I do notice a bit of difference in audio quality between the Turtle Beach and my Audio-Technica's but tbh you can get away with the Turtle Beach for gaming without losing too much quality and they are extremely light weight. One thing many complain about is Turtle Beach tend to clamp your head a little more than other headphones, although these are still not bad.

Just bear in mind with any of these headsets you can use them directly into a controller that has a 3.5mm socket or use the Microsoft Stereo Headset adapter (sold separately) plugged into the controller or the Turtle Beach adapter (sold separately also).

Check these out: SADES SA-807 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N5CMY6O?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf Been using them for half a year now and for 22$ they are absolutely amazing. Really clear sound, great mic. 100% would recommend
Edit: I know a lot of people here love to buy the headphones that the streamers use but these headphones are absolutely amazing for 22$ which, if you’re a student, is an amazing price for a student that has to pay off college. The only down side is that they are not wireless but i got used to it and the wire doesn’t really bother you while playing anyways

u/ZambonieDrivor · 3 pointsr/PS4

PowerA Charging Station - 2 controllers, not little kid friendly, as it has a spring to load/unload the controller and kids will just pull it off. If the spring is in the incorrect position, it can be difficult to put the controller on charge.

Collective Minds PSVR Stand and Charging Station - 2 controllers, 2 move controllers, and 1 USB slot for headset or PSVR AIM controller.

PlayStation Platinum Headset - Went through 2 PS Gold headsets due to weak plastic frame. Platinums feel more sturdy. Haven't used too much to test durability. Great sound, but I am not an audiophobe.

PSVR AIM Controller - Got it bundled with Firewatch. Read that it felt good in hands. I thought it felt a little awkward, but definitely easy enough to use. Just have to get used to the button layout.

AC Infinity Fans - These are 80mm fans. It comes with 2 fans in parallel that are powered over USB. I don't use my PS4's USBs, because those are taken up with other accessories, so I have it attached to my surround sound receiver. One fan pulling air from the back of the Pro, and the other directing the fan out of the shelf area. I recommend these, as I've noticed the spin up on my Pro has significantly went down.

Badasheng headphones are pretty neat, I use it on the PS4 as it is great quality and a pretty good microphone.

Edit: It's wired... oops

Turtle Beach is pretty good when it comes to headsets. I had a pair for my PS3 and worked great. Right now I'm using After Glow USB headset and they're great. https://www.amazon.com/PDP-Afterglow-Wireless-Headset-PlayStation-4/dp/B016K12406

u/andy2003b · 1 pointr/BF1AdvancedTactics

I'm looking for a new headset for PS4, something under £50, as i don't tend to join parties due to no headset and the missus usually in the same room (only have 1 tele). As I play a lot with the Rats it be great to talk to you lot.

I have been looking at Turtle Beach

So any help from the Headset Guru's would be great.

Thanks for all the input, and I'm sorry to hear to had problems with your Logitech headset. I'd love to take you up on your recommendation as Steelseries generally makes exceptional hardware, but my budget is really tight. Also thank you for the offer of the discount. I think I'll go for the 7.1 G430 since it's the same price, and I'll look into whether the surround sound implementation worsens the stereo sound compared to the G230. Thanks again!

Edit: I've done some more browsing. Since you took time time to help me, and I'm sorry to bug you some more, I wanted your opinion on these two STEELSERIES headsets I'm looking at in the same price range as the Logitechs:
Siberia 150: https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Siberia-Headset-Illumination-Headphone/dp/B016YGMJ34/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1540964006&sr=1-2&keywords=steelseries%2Bheadset&refinements=p_36%3A1253504011&th=1

First and foremost, are they compatible with Switch and PC? I'm guessing so since they use the same jacks (afaik). Would you recommend either of those over the Logitech?

u/Elite49 · 1 pointr/PS4

Anyone know of a good headset upcoming for PS4 that connects to controller like XBOX has? I'm looking at this one:

http://www.amazon.com/DreamGEAR-Broadcaster-Headset-PlayStation-4/dp/B00EV0CPDU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1383245800&sr=8-5&keywords=ps4+headset

The one that's included with the PS4 does not look that good coming from primarily playing on XBOX. I don't want game audio just chat audio. Until some newer headsets the connect to the controller come out I may just use my Xbox to chat with friends in party.

u/Battle_Bear_819 · 1 pointr/PS4

For anyone with a limited budget that needs headphones, I recommend the Rigs 500hx. They are advertised for xbox, but they work exactly the same with the ps4. The sound quality is very good, they don't get hot (which is something the Sony golds did), and they fit well with glasses.

u/OrdigitalGngstr · 1 pointr/gadgets

I'm in search of a single-sided bluetooth over-ear headset for talking on the phone. I haven't had much luck thus far, only finding dual-sided over-ear bluetooth headsets for gaming, or wired headsets like this: [Turtle Beach Recon Chat]
(https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Gaming-Headset-playstation-4/dp/B06WP1XHBH/ref=pd_sbs_23_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B06WP1XHBH&pd_rd_r=GGVTYWTZ83D2YA9JMPST&pd_rd_w=J4KMJ&pd_rd_wg=Y9iOc&psc=1&refRID=GGVTYWTZ83D2YA9JMPST)

It doesn't have to be impeccable sound quality as it will only be for talking on the phone, not gaming or music. Ideally it will be under $40, but if that's not available then I can budge on that.

I am even fine with hacking up a bluetooth dual-sided headset by cutting off one ear, or adding a bluetooth dongle to a wired one (ideally the former method if I'm doing one of these). In the case of either, I would just like to know if anyone has experience doing either of these and can say if the modification worked.

Thanks in advance!

Can't go wrong with these sound quality is amazing. Not to mention the design is pretty God damn sweet👍

Astro A50's are snug yet comfortable, and importantly aren't on the 2.4GHz band like practically everything else--no worries about interference/drops.

Haven't actually used them in action yet but I plan on using my set when my Vive arrives. Wearing them now and they only slip when shaking my head vigorously.

Downside is price, but I've tried a lot of different wireless headsets and I like these most. You can find them refurbed for $200, bought a pair of those for my sister's birthday recently and they've been working great for her.

Incoming weird request... I'm taking a shot with you experts as my Google-Fu has failed me. Dual transceiver headsets?

Budget: $200

Source: Sony PS4 (USB or BT) and Windows 10 PC (USB)

Requirements for Isolation: Using for indoor gaming, not important.

Preferred Type of Headphone: Full sized

Preferred tonal balance: Overall balanced. So I can hear the footsteps around the corner hehe.

Past headphones: [TurtleBeach Earforce P12] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K77WQ3A/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) Reason why I need an upgrade!

Preferred Music: Jazz, hip-hop, funk (things with heavy bass), anything else I opt to my speakers. So this is also not too important.

SETUP IMPROVEMENT: Convenience. I apologize if this against the core spirit of high quality headphones. Right now, I toggle between two audio sources by replugging my headset. So I'm looking for headsets (with mic) that can only be described as having "dual channels" to toggle between. Wireless would be a huge plus, think something with dual transceivers. Audio IO doesn't need to be mixed or concurrent, just easy to switch between.

I looked into the [Logitech G933] (http://support.logitech.com/en_ch/article/Multiple-source-audio-mixing-with-the-G933-gaming-headset?product=a0qi0000006QI2ZAAW) but they're not quite what I'm looking for. If the technology isn't out there, I would also be content with this answer, sad but content.
Any help would be greatly appreciated to solve my First World problem.

Hello Mad_Economist!

  • There is $147.00 +/- left in the audio budget

  • Currently in house / on hand, we have available:

  • ASTRO Gaming A10 Gaming Headset - Blue

  • Sony MDRZX110 ZX Series Stereo Headphones (White)

  • I wasn't aware the Sony set had a flavor with microphone. That's neat. I've used this model of over ear for some time and have been happy with them. Model with the mic is at the $25 price point on Amazon

  • The Astro A10 Headset set is heavy, but has the audio adjust on headset cable which is handy. However, the audio from mic didn't work well with trash salvaged 32bit Ubuntu machine.

  • She says she wants over ear

  • She doesn't have in-depth knowledge of audio specifics

  • If it were plugged into anything other than the PC, she would be laying in bed using a phone or kindle with a headphone jack, head on pillow

  • For portability I touched on use cases. Well, I mean, she might use them in the pop-up camper on camping trips?

  • Used equipment or refurbished is fine with us

    Edit: a word
u/IfritGh0st · 2 pointsr/playstation

First recommendation is the Plantronics RIG 500HC 3.5mm Stereo Gaming Headset https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0123C7GVI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_WGmjybF98E2NK (US Amazon Link). I used them for a while. Great audio and mic quality and I loved how light they were. Solid headset for the price.

Other than those, I'd say HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset - Black (KHX-H3CL/WR) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JJNQG98/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_gJmjyb114724J (also US Amazon Link). These were awesome because of their memory foam padding and jus the overall level of comfort they offered.

Keep in mind neither of these offer true surround sound and are both wired to your controller. If you have any questions about either, let me know! I no longer own either but used them both for a fre months each before I handed them down to my cousin. I currently use Astro A50s.

u/probably_pointless · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

That's a whole $5 less than Amazon.

ETA actually, if you want a white one, Amazon has that for $180.

ETA2 those are third-party sellers, fulfilled by amazon, the second one with only 92% positive feedback.

I was looking for a wireless alternative a while ago but couldn’t find any so I ended up buying this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06WP1XHBH/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1520361527&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=turtle+beach+chat+recon&dpPl=1&dpID=4123dd2SFyL&ref=plSrch

I would ignore Panron's anecdotal experience with artificial surround sound. I have a Logitech G933 and 7.1 surround sounds great. If you order headphones that advertise surround sound, and it doesn't work for you. Simply return that headset. I personally only use the surround on my headphones because the difference is so much, and I completely enjoy the quality. As for the the PS4, I have seen many people complain that virtual surround sound for headphones don't work on PS4, because they require software to enable the feature. Although, Sony actually does sell headphones that are 7.1 Surround sound.[PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset] (https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Platinum-Wireless-Headset-Surround/dp/B07CLD57D5)
I would suggest going with those.

u/Flight714 · 3 pointsr/PS4

The wire is frayed internally, and therefore the signal gets lost intermittently. At some point the cable either got stretched out too far, or tangled up and twisted too much.

A good rule of thumb for any electronics cable: It should always be hanging loosely—never taught and straight. If your cable is stretched out enough to make a straight line, it's in the process of getting damged. Same goes for tangling, twisting, and bending the cable.

Source: Studied electronics, and have worked with cables on and off for a decade or so.

You'll need a new one. The official ones that come with the PS4 cost about 12$:

I also wear glasses, usual gaming sessions via PC or PS4 that typically last 4-6 hours. Also use these for quite a bit of YouTube viewing while on the PC. Huge Turtle Beach guy for most of that time (DPX-21, PX-5, PX-4). Always had tons of issues with the stems of my glasses pressing into my temples and making the tops of my ears hurt.

Bought a set of Steel Series Arctis 7 in October, and I’m in love with them. Steel frame headband with a suspension strap, so you barely feel the weight of them at all on your head, and the ear cups do not press AT ALL on the stems of my specs.

I use a headset with one earphone, similar to a call-center headset. I have chat audio in one ear, and the audio from my TV all around. It's a very simple solution.

Here is the headset I use: https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach-Gaming-Headset-playstation-4/dp/B06WP1XHBH

Don't think you are going to find a Wireless headset for under $50, unless you can find the Sony Gold on sale (I paid $44 last year on Amazon, but it's $78 atm).

This Turtle Beach isn't bad for the price, but is wired albeit it's a long wire:

This is the one I use. It has good sound coming through the headphones. The microphone is okay, but it has a lot of white noise to it if you turn the mic sensitivity up too high.

On Amazon they are going for $69.93 new. Reviews look to be good for PS4, not good for PC/PS3.

Astro gaming a10. Although he would have to pay 10$ more from the retail prices I’m seeing currently, but it’s possible to find them for less I’m sure.

There isnt really no repairing the connector end. Buy a new one if you want the same thing.

Or buy a never been used one on ebay.

The ps4 comes with a mono earbud with mic. I don’t think anyone actually uses those. You can probably just ask anyone you know with a PS4 if you can have theirs if they haven’t tossed it yet.

EDIT: They’re $9 on Amazon

I bought mine from the third link, which was last week.

I also have this problem and what I did was used my PS4 earbuds that came with the console. I plug it in to my Xbox controller then use the clip to clip it to my headset wire that’s connected to my PC, by doing this you’re able to talk to your party using the PS4 mic while hearing and talking through your headset mic. No need to actually put the earbud in your ear because you’re getting the audio through your PC headset. Here’s a link to the earbuds in case you’re unfamiliar.

I guess I assumed you were referring to a comm of this style:

It's the Arctis Pro Wireless
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B079YBKT3H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ARqlDbMS4RACT

Oddly it IS more expensive on amazon.com. I managed to snag it before the shipping date jumped too so I should have it Thursday.

u/AoiYui · 1 pointr/gamingsuggestions

can you point me to the right place I can't find anything of that name and description with mobile devices listed as compatibility this and this are all I could find that get even close.

u/srbman · 3 pointsr/PS4

I've been using this for the past 5 years on PS4 and PC without any issues.

Check your ps4 box and see if it has this inside. Sony Playstation 4 (PS4) Mono Chat Earbud with Mic https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DCYWI96/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_cnk.BbQFX1DQJ

I don't think so what ear buds are you using? The rare times I've tried to use apple ear buds they don't work.

Here's a link to what I use outside of that I don't have much knowledge on the subject https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Playstation-Mono-Chat-Earbud/dp/B01DCYWI96

So these would work on both?

u/basedmattnigga7 · 1 pointr/battlefield_one

I got a sweet one for 24$ total I think. Very comfortable. Called the Kingtop.

And I agree... the shitty ones hurt your ears and they end up breaking. So far so good with this one:

I'm using the Turtle Beach Ear Force P12 wired set and it doesn't hurt while wearing glasses though my ears get sore just from having them on long-term. But that happens with all headsets.

u/UrbanAwsomeman · 1 pointr/gaming

I know these work for playstation and PC but im not 100% sure about xbox. (theres a way to make it work but im not sure how, however theres tons of guides on youtube)

Does anyone have suggestions for a decent wireless gaming headset that is capable of Multipoint (being wireless to my PC and my Mobile at the same time). I found the SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless but not really ready to drop 329 dollars on a headset.

This crappy mono earbud that plugs into your controller? https://www.amazon.com/Sony-Playstation-Mono-Chat-Earbud/dp/B01DCYWI96

Ps4 overwatch has a communication problem. Let's look past all the other shit for a moment, such as reaper being practically invincible, and the new insta-kill death ray that sym is sporting after the most recent round of updates, and focus on the one thing that would make this game a lot more enjoyable:

Get your fucking mic out and use the fucking thing.

Don't have a mic? Get one of these: Turtle Beach TBS-3345-02 PS4 Recon Chat Headset https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B06WP1XHBH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_L7XCDbFJ6RJQE

I have one, and it's great. It's cheap and plugs in to your controller, so it doesn't need to be charged. Has a mute button when you want to scream at your significant other/your dog/your kids/etc.

Even if it's just a call out here and there, I don't expect you to be just spitting out information all the time, but if you aren't on mic, or at least in chat so you can hear those of us who are, you're putting your entire team at a disadvantage right off the hop. We can't strategize with you when you can't hear us. Oh hey, we want to go around back on volskya with a sym tp, but you're charging alone thru the main choke and getting destroyed, spamming that you need healing (genji I'm looking at you bro), and then when we lose you find your mic and start shit talking all of us. Or maybe we don't need a hamster and a roadhog, one of y'all need to go shield tank. But blame the backline healers when they're getting shredded having nothing to hide behind and you're not 'getting healz' as a result.

I realize that you were probably on mic once and someone hurt your feelings or something and now you've sworn off voice chat because of those salty fucks that once wronged you, but going all lone wolf in a game mode that requires teamwork is nothing short of maddening for the rest of us. I have a regular group of friends that play, and the 3 or 4 of us are always in chat if we're in comp. It's frustrating to say the least when the only thing stopping us from getting wins is lack of communication. It's pretty much killed overwatch for me, and I doubt I'll be playing it once borderlands 3 drops. I can live with the other glaring problems that overwatch has, character imbalances mostly, but I simply can not deal with the lack of communication between team members any more. It's ruined overwatch for me.
