No problem.

> I want to focus on gaining weight in my thighs, ass, and breasts,

This is good! I would recommend considering doing some weight training 3 or 4 times per week to add a few pounds of lean muscle. Check out some of the novice programs they discuss in the FAQ of the Fitness subreddit for some pointers, but a regimen centered around compound movements like squats and deadlifts will not only help you gain some muscle mass, but also give you that rounder ass and more shapely hips. Increased breast size will probably simply happen naturally as you put on some weight.

> and I was told that soy would be best because of the estrogen.

This is fucking retarded, and the person who told it to you should be punched. Yeah, on some level soy is estrogenic, but unless you are, like, a menopausal woman, I'm disinclined to understand why that should matter in your diet. Again, unless you have some crazy shit going on like your period being ridiculously out of whack or you start to grow a beard, in which case, consult that endocrinologist, your estrogen levels are likely normal enough. Frankly, lean muscle gains like what you are largely looking for require a bit of testosterone to begin with, but relax, because you are a healthy young female, so short of stabbing yourself in the ass every day with a syringe of dianabol, that shouldn't matter.

> Is there a type of protein, or amount, or even brand you would recommend?

If you were a dude around the same age who was a bit chunky and looking to lift for the first time ever, I'd recommend something with a more favorable protein:carb ratio (more grams of protein relative to grams of carbs per scoop). In your case, though, you could probably benefit from the added carbs, provided they come from stuff like the powder and fresh fruit instead of you shoving bags of Sour Patch Kids down your gullet every day, and the carbs would probably help you to gain weight.

As such, find one that tastes good to you and run with it. Personally, I dig on blended proteins. However, before you drop $50+ on something you may not care for the taste of, maybe consider going to your local grocery or health food store and copping a bottle or two of Muscle Milk to see if you prefer the taste. If it's something you enjoy, they sell it and similar products like Monster Milk in those jugs of powder at any health food store and online. Alternately, if you have a few bucks to burn, it's cool to duck into a smoothie bar like a Jamba Juice, or Tropical Smoothie, or whatever is around you and treat yourself to a smoothie with a scoop of protein or grab a box of protein bars off Amazon, at your grocery store, or a health food store. Again, those smoothies and protein bars may be a bit high in sugar, but for your purposes, those added carbs won't kill you. If you find yourself putting on like 20 lbs in a month, simply ease back on the throttle a bit.

As for amount, you'll see all kinds of bunk warnings that if your protein intake is too high, you'll shit out a kidney or some such nonsense. For your purposes, it won't matter, so a scoop or two of powder per day and maybe a bit of meat during lunch or dinner won't place any kind of strain on your body, especially if you are staying hydrated.

Hope that helps!

  • There are some awesome Etsy shops out there - you can usually find cool things by keyword (neon, festival, burning man, steampunk, leotard, fringe, goth, whatever you're into), and filter by price range.

  • Forever 21 - Yes, it's cheap, probably made by 6 year olds in Indonesia, and not the best quality, but they usually have awesome cheap leggings in crazy patterns, fun tops, inexpensive faux fur coats, etc.

  • Amazon. Great for essentials like fishnets, LED lights, goggles, booze-cups, and protein shakes.

  • Shoes: I really recommend a pair or two of comfortable boots. Motorcycle style, cowboy boots, combat boots, or fuzzy boots can all be very versatile. Make SURE you could walk 5 miles in them without getting crazy blisters (get some drugstore insoles for them). Do NOT plan on wearing open-toed shoes. Do NOT bring heels.

  • You NEED a warm coat that is both exciting and practical.

  • You need outfits for each day and each night, but don't be afraid to have a "uniform" of sorts to save packing space - e.g. 3 patterns of rainbow panties + 3 different tanktops = 3 different days.

So for both whey and casein, I prefer Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard or Dymatize Elite / Iso 100. My favorite flavors are:

Whey:

  • Optimum's Cake Batter -- 5lb tub for under $60.

  • Dymatize Iso 100's Birthday Cake -- 5lbs for under $65 more expensive than Optimum because it is Iso 100

    Casein:

  • Dymatize Elite's Cinnamon Bun -- looks like Amazon is out of the 4lb tub, but I can usually get a 4lb tub for less than $50 and it is tasty AF.

  • Optimum's Chocolate Peanut Butter -- slightly more expensive than Dymatize, but still a 4lb tub for $55.

One thing to keep in mind with respect to whey and casein protein powder tubs is that although $45-65 seems like a lot of money, gram for gram it is still generally a way cheaper protein source than even chicken breast. It is just a larger cost up front.

With respect to pre-made protein shakes, I love Core Power and Muscle Milk:

  • Core Power with 26g protein and 26g carbs -- I like this mostly for when I am drinking only this as a pre or post-workout thing.

  • Core Power with 42g protein and 13g carbs -- I prefer this as a pre- or post-workout when I am mixing with another carb source (like pouring it over sugary cereal).

  • Muscle Milk Protein Smoothie -- I love the creamy texture of this, and macros are pretty good at 25g protein and 25g carbs for 230 cals.

Premade protein shakes are definitely more expensive gram for gram than chicken breast, etc. But you pay for the convenience.

I'm definitely happy that we have so many options nowadays and that there are so many companies that are creating Vegan products.

Really depends on what you're looking for though. Customization is certainly great, but Vega really shines when it comes to creating high-quality innovative products that are formulated with performance, flavor, and whole food ingredients in mind that I actually trust to put into my body. For the most part their products are not supplements, but whole food powders (no synthesized vitamins and mineral blends that come from a lab, amino acid blends, enzyme derivatives etc. but rather non-GMO powdered food ingredients like greens, spirulina, marine algae calcium, acacia gum, real fruits and veggies, etc.). Price-wise there is really a range now too, Protein & Greens is available on Amazon for about $17/lb, and has 20g of protein and 3 servings of greens in a scoop.

u/jerbs24 · 1 pointr/veganfitness

Most on here will tell you True Nutrition. Which, I can agree on some points. However, most of their products are sweetened by Sucralose (secret word for Splenda). I usually like close to 2lbs of powder. Which, could put you around $20 but in the US shipping and handling can run you to around $27.

I like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Vega-Protein-Greens-Vanilla-servings/dp/B00MYRXIIS/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1522695726&sr=8-3&keywords=vega+protein+powder

with PRIME shipping is free. It tastes very good and it's sweetened by stevia which is a better alternative than sucralose.

u/pezasied · 2 pointsr/Fitness

I rotate between four different protein powders, all are vegan and are sourced from multiple sources (mostly pea, flax, and hemp protein).

My favorite taste wise is the Vega Protein and Greens.

Also from Vega, the Sport Protein is nice, as it has 30 grams of protein per serving vs the 20 per serving in the protein and greens. However, Vega changed the recipe for the Sport a few months ago, and now it makes a super thick drink, almost akin to drinking cake batter. I have to split up the serving just so the drink doesn't become too thick.

The Garden of Life Sport Protein also has 30 grams of protein per serving, and isn't as thick as the Vega Sport, but I think it doesn't taste quite as good as the Vega branded stuff. Not bad though.

Lastly, I'll occasionally buy Orgain as it is the cheapest typically, though it has a somewhat grainy texture compared to the others.

I usually just buy whatever of the four are on sale at my local Co-Op, but if you're going to go with one, I'd recommend the Vega Protein and Greens if you're ok with only 20 grams of protein per serving.

Edit: oh didn't realize you have already had the protein and greens, maybe try the Vega Sport? Also, I buy all four exclusively in vanilla, so I can't speak for the other flavors.

u/10bysummer · 2 pointsr/BTFC

Thanks!

I've been drinking a lot of protein shakes, which allows me to intake a lot of protein without counting against my carb/fat budget for the day. Core Power Elite Vanilla is absolutely delicious, but a bit expensive. OSTRIM jerky is delicious and good for a snack (much lower in fat than regular pepperoni-style snacks).

Lately, I've been taking some 0% Greek yogurt and mixing in chocolate protein powder and some powdered peanut butter. It's a tasty way to get 50g of protein, a good source of Omega 3s, and feels like I'm having dessert.

u/runlikeagirl89 · 1 pointr/fitpregnancy

I have one after any workout (usually a run) longer than 45 minutes. It helps me not get so hungry while I'm making dinner after I get back from my workouts! :) I really like Tera's Whey (the sweetener is stevia, overall sugar is < 2g, protein is 20g) with a coconut/almond milk blend as the base. I think you can use water, but it's creamier with some sort of milk or milk alternative, which I like better, myself. Amazon's price is pretty high (I usually find it in my local grocery for < $20), but link is here! I think you get ~24 shakes out of it? So it comes out to < $1 per shake in the end.

u/ifitstrueillbelievit · 1 pointr/gainit

I'm also lactose intolerant and IMO beef/egg protein is the way to go if you want to avoid the high soy content of many of the vegan/pea protein powders. This is definitely on the expensive side but I've had a really good experience with it and its easy on my system as far as protein powders go https://www.amazon.com/PaleoPro-Paleo-Protein-Powder-Vanilla/dp/B00GSXO38S/ref=sr_1_4_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1519665377&sr=8-4&keywords=paleo%2Bprotein%2Bpowder&dpID=518fRmIVhHL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch&th=1

It tastes fine and I can get it down with just water when I need to. If you aren't concerned about too much soy though you can definitely find much cheaper plant based protein powders.

I dont know redditt etiquette - if its too late to respond, but I'm going to try anyway.

MY partner and I both use vanilla and chocolate gold standard. we buy them at costo when they are on scale. I make pancakes with the vanilla and we drink the vanilla and chocolate. I personally like them mixed together. For my coffee, I add in the premier protein. Its already in a liquid (~75 mL is 40 cal with 8g of protein) so it mixes really well. It takes like really indulgent coffee creamer. we also get them at costo when they are on sale. Heres links to them both:

https://www.amazon.com/OPTIMUM-NUTRITION-STANDARD-Protein-Chocolate/dp/B000QSNYGI?th=1

I dont use social media enough to keep up with something like that. But I do use MFP if you wanted to exchange names!

  1. Squishable grilled cheese.
    Squishables are the best.

  2. $10-$20 Moscato because I'm cheap but wine is delicious.

  3. Melt Rust Stack.
I have a lot of matte neutral eyeshadows but these are so fantastic! It's pricey but so worth the money.

  4. Tera's Whey. This was recommended by my trainer and it's so delicious. Chocolate protein shakes forever.

  5. Men's touch-up dye. I have blonde hair. My eyebrows can pretty much disappear on my face if I don't tint them. Instead of going to the salon I've been tinting them at home. I use the shade medium brown and just a teeny bit and my brows are transformed. A bottle of dye/developer lasts me months. I just mix equal parts right before I do my brows.
u/WildThunders · 13 pointsr/EatCheapAndHealthy

User Ensure Plus or similar, you can cool it down or freeze it, you can also eat cold oatmeal, cold soup (vegetables+ meat+ beans), make smoothies (oats+ +protein powder+ fruit+ milk).

You can pure the fruit add to jello powder and protein powder.

Beans, lentils and chickpeas make great purees.

Some ideas here

If you google blended/pureed diet elderly you will find a lot of resources with good ideas.

I tried a few different Boosts and Ensures when I was getting into Soylent. (I wanted something I could pick up at a grocery store in a pinch.) The closest I found to Soylent's nutrition balance is Boost Glucose Control, but I still found it much too sweet for my tastes. https://www.amazon.com/Boost-Glucose-Nutritional-Chocolate-Sensation/dp/B00LWUOQ4I/?th=1 You can see the nutrition label there. And you're right, it does cost about the same, you just have to drink two Boosts to equal one Soylent.

u/blondiemp · 3 pointsr/BabyBumps

Vega Protein & Greens was a lifesaver for me during my first trimester. I made a smoothie every morning with just water, a banana and the powder. It is easy on the queasy tummy and has 20g of protein per serving and no sugar 👌Can't recommend it enough! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYRXIIS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_eHbSAb46D2JVT

u/Valirony · 1 pointr/KetoBabies

My fave premade shakes are these. For powders, There’s a Muscle Milk blend I like that has 27g of protein and something like 3 net carbs—I get giant bags of it at Costco. Caveat: neither of these is particularly inexpensive!

u/FlexPointe · 1 pointr/Accutane

Hi! I also use Vega some of the time to cut down on my dairy intake. Vegan protein powder has a gritty taste and texture. I can't drink it with just water, but it's delicious blended with frozen berries/banana, kale, and water! I've only tried the Vega Protein and Greens in Vanilla as that's what they carry at Costco. You can purchase it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Vega-Protein-Greens-Vanilla-Servings/dp/B00MYRXIIS

u/ThatLesbian · 1 pointr/keto

Yes the genuine is what I drink too, and they’re great. 3 net carbs and 25g protein per bottle. Prefer strawberry or cookies and cream flavor.

When I had to go on a liquid diet for a while because my digestive system decided not to digest for a while, I couldn't stomach the regular Ensure. Instead I used a mix of Ensure Clear It's labeled as 'contains milk ingredients' but also says it's good for lactose intolerant people. Now, my issue with regular Ensure wasn't with the lactose, I'm not lactose intolerant or dairy sensitive, it just made me gag. But this stuff is more juice-like.

The other thing I used for Premier Protein Clear.. It's also juice-like instead of milk-like but may contain milk products, dunno. It packs in a ton of protein, though, and unlike the Ensure didn't seem to have much if any sugar. Probably all sorts of chemicals.

I was only on these for a few weeks, though, and lost a lot of weight, which was fine for me but may not work well for others. It's hard to get calories in on these drinks.

u/Duke_of_Edinbrooo · 2 pointsr/keto

I love broccoli so I’m not opposed to that. Idk what it is about all the meat though it just seems so daunting to me. I tried to eat a steak last night and I got about halfway through 6oz and couldn’t eat any more. Same with burgers.

I just had a 5oz can of chicken mixed with avocado and I cooked Brussels sprouts with bacon and that put me closer than yesterday. I’m gonna have a few berries with some cashew butter before bed and I should be set for the day.

I always forget how high in protein chicken is. I guess I’m just thinking of ways to get my fat out of the way too (since I can’t have dairy) so that usually requires the fattier cuts of meats.

And I’m not opposed to protein powders - I didn’t even think of that. Just looked this up so I think I’m gonna give it a go. If I have one a day I should be set and it doesn’t have nasty stevia in it lol.

Thanks for the helpful response!

Yes, 3FUEL is expensive. Grass fed whey protein hydrolysate (cost driver), MCT's from coconut milk. A good balance of macro nutrients, with minimal sugar - at a premium price. "Balance" being based on Zone 40/30/30 Diet. (9g carb, 7g protein, 1.5g fat = 1 block)

Price per serving:

[Xendurance] (https://www.xendurance.com/protein-chocolate)- 4g carb 20g protein 2g fat - $2.13

[Progenex Recovery] (https://www.progenexusa.com/products/recovery?variant=1705200484361) - 9g carbs 23g protein 1g fat - $2.17

[3FUEL] (https://3fu3l.com/collections/cyber-monday-2017/products/3fu3l-vanilla) - 20g carbs 20g protein 5g fat - $2.32

[Optimum Protein Powder] (https://www.amazon.com/Optimum-Nutrition-Standard-Protein-Chocolate/dp/B000GIPJY8) - 3g carbs 24g protein 1.5g fat - $0.74

[Soylent] (https://www.soylent.com/product/powder/) - 41g carbs 20g protein 20g fat -$1.83

[Stronger Faster Healthier] (https://www.amazon.com/Protein-Chocolate-SFH-Artificials-servings/dp/B072KL928F) - 4g carbs 23g protein 2g fat - $1.79

u/fernly · 2 pointsr/soylent

Huh. I can't find “Kirkland Signature Complete Nutrition Shake” on the Costco site. Is it still in production by them? However here it is on amazon, from third party sellers only. Viewing the ingredients panel I observe that the first ingredients are,

  • water
  • sucrose
  • maltodextrin

So we are off to a bad start there, heavy on sugars and I see over 50% calories from carbs, of which most are sugars. Each 8oz carton is only 230kcal, yet provides 25% and up of the RDA of most micros, so if you tried to live on it you'd be overdosing on vitamins and getting the majority of your calories from sugar. IMO this stuff makes Ensure look good.

Price-wise you'd need to consume 8 of the packs per day to approach 2000kcal, or 4 days per 32-pack order. The cheaper of the two third-party sellers wants $40 so you could get your minimal calories for about $10/day (plus shipping). You could live on Milk Fuel for lower per diem cost and be much, much better nourished.

I use their double chocolate grass-fed beef protein powder, and I love it. I've been using it for years.

I don't know anything about that story you mentioned.

Add Paleo Pro, my personal favorite and a check on all categories.

Make the table header float so that it follows while you scroll, so that user don;t have to scroll back to the top to determine what the check refers to.

Have you tried the Vega protein powder? I switched from Quest to Vega around 6 months ago because I don't like how many ingredients are in Quest. I use the vanilla and I really like it! I don't even feel the need to add anything into it to besides water. It has 5 grams of carbs per serving.

I found Premier Protein Shakes.

https://www.amazon.com/Premier-Protein-Shakes-Chocolate-Ounces/dp/B00AAJRPZY

They're pretty expensive but at Costco a case of 30 is like $37 so much more reasonable. Each shake is 160 calories and 30g of protein. I find them very filling even as a liquid snack.

u/silentvoyager · 5 pointsr/running

My typical recovery drink is a protein smoothie (Vega protein powder, frozen berries, and water or almond milk).

Also recently I discovered Vega Recovery Accelerator, which I think works very well. It is more convenient than a smoothie when I am not at home.

I do NOT recommend this stuff. Also at Costco. Does not taste good when mixed in a smoothie.

Cant speak on AIP...but there are paleo protein shakes - made of organic egg white powder basically. I myself take Adderall for AdHD and literally have to set timers to remind myself to EAT! It helps...because missing a meal always causes inflammation for me, ans I pay for it later. As for vitamins, take a higj dosage probiotic. I found my protein powder and probiotics off Amazon!
