Actually you can get a 1060 for under $200 and consoles are generally sold for barely above cost, if not at a loss. They may be making money but there's no way over 1/3 of the retail sales will be profit.

Alright man, here's my recommendation if your wanting to go prebuilt on the cheap.

Score you a cheap Dell Optiplex tower from eBay for $250ish. These Dell Optiplexes in both i5, and i7 varieties come up a lot from cheap due to corporate surplus. They are built really well, and I personally think they look damn great for OEM. I use a Dell Optiplex 9020 as a home server currently. You may have to get a cheap hard drive, or some more ram, but that is just trivial stuff at that point.

Then to get you the sweet frames everyone wants, get you a new nVidia 1060 for $225ish, or be on the lookout on /r/hardwareswap for a used graphics card.

In the end, total cost should be well below $500 with some patience.
At the £200 pricepoint, you'll be choosing between the GTX 1060 3GB or the RX 570 4GB. (10603GB will be faster today, but RX5704GB will age a little better)
However, for the sake of futureproofing, I highly recommend you up your budget to ~£265 and get the GTX 1060 6GB variant (or the RX 580).
Terrible deal. 1060 3g are regularly 350 range

You can get a single fan for 179.99 at Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01KUADE3O?th=1&psc=1
the 3 gb version is in stock for $228.86 at least https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KUADE3O?ref_=sr_1_2&s=electronics&qid=1500025849&sr=1-2&keywords=Gtx%2B1060&pldnSite=1&th=1
The GTX 1060 6GB is way above an RX 480. GTX 1060 3GB is at the same price point.
Maybe if you're not in the US, but even MSRP for the 1060 at 6GB is higher.
How about a GTX 1060? https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-03G-P4-6160-KR/dp/B01KUADE3O/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1473958730&sr=1-4&keywords=gtx+1060
When searching, check the 'Ship to Singapore' box, and on the product page look for
> Price: $199.99 + No Import Fees Deposit & FREE Shipping to Singapore
For example, this GTX1060 graphics card is eligible - https://smile.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-03G-P4-6160-KR/dp/B01KUADE3O/
You get free shipping if your order is over US$125, and the price can be a lot better than Sim Lim Sq. The downside is that shipping can be a bit slow, up to 2-3 weeks, but if you're not in a hurry it's well worth it.
tl;dr: is the premium price of the GTX 1060 6gb worth it over the GTX 1060 3gb?
edited for clarity
i built a pc last march on a z170 motherboard and an i5 6600k, but i recycled my video card from my previous build. it is a 2gb radeon 7870 that i bought back in april of 2013, so... pretty ready for an upgrade? the primary reason that i'm looking to upgrade is that i'm finally pulling the trigger in water cooling and i want a card that i can find a water block for. EKWB offered one for my current card but they no longer do.
i think i have decided on the GTX 1060 either in the 3gb version (currently $200) or the 6gb version (currently $260). I'd like to keep it under $250 but if i'm really going to see a big enough performance benefit with 6gb over 3gb i'll adjust the 'budget' upwards by $10.
these days i am primarily concerned with pushing multiple monitors, and i play both WoW and FFXIV. the card is still doing me pretty good, so if there's a good reason to hold off for awhile, i could just shelf the idea.

Hello again! I'm home now so I can get you a bit more information.
[Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/Geforce-Phoenix-Graphics-PH-GTX1050TI-4G-Graphic/dp/B01M360WG6/ref=sr_1_11?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483856782&sr=1-11&keywords=gtx+1050+ti) has the ASUS 1050 ti for $150, while the 1050 ti is slightly better in [just about every regard] (http://hwbench.com/vgas/geforce-gtx-1050-ti-vs-geforce-gtx-960) over the 960.
Or if you wanna meet your budget, go for a [1060] (https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-03G-P4-6160-KR/dp/B01KUADE3O/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483857004&sr=1-2&keywords=gtx+1060) for $200, and [embarrass] (http://hwbench.com/vgas/geforce-gtx-1060-vs-geforce-gtx-960) the 960 in performance.
If you're concerned about reliability keep in mind that the reported issues with the 10 series cards has been no higher than with the previous generations. Spending the money on the right card today will pay off in the future as new software comes out that can utilize the newer hardware in your machine.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask, good luck with your purchase!
edit: To note, a higher end graphics card will more than likely be bottlenecked by the CPU you have depending on the software you're running. So you may not see the maximum performance until you upgrade that. Still a valid decision in my mind, as one day when you decide to upgrade your CPU you'll have a GPU that's ready for it. It's the right way to go if you're upgrading one part at a time as they age.
Did you build your PC yourself or what? Top Tier graphic cards are around ~300€ and those are running all games on pretty much the highest settings. If you're talking about the Nvidia Titan X then yeah that costs over $900 but that's like the most powerful card we have around which you definitely won't need to play your games. Here for example the Nvidia Geforce 1060 a very decent card for only ~$200.
What build did you get ? I can't imagine spending more than $1000 and not have a top tier rig.
Nothing really door crashing yet. I found a few but it's just like 20$ off sort of deal
edit just found (this on amazon)[https://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B01KUADE3O/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new] which is a little better prices
Ah AMD! Man I'm even using one of their graphics cards and I didn't think to look at their processors. Will that mobo work fine with their graphics card, a GTX1060 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KUADE3O ?
Just saying, but you can get that exact model brand new from Amazon for $230 (w/out tax)... amazon link

Sorry for asking so many questions! So the i5 7500 would work with the motherboard I posted? Also plan to get a 1060 3GB now as you recommended
Ah the full sized ones are the only ones that would work? I'm trying to fit it into a small case that doesn't support full size. I was hoping the heatsink from this would work: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KUADE3O/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

1060 3gb this is the cheapest 3gb that shows on PCPP.
1060 6gb this is the cheapest 6gb that shows on PCPP.
I can’t speak for any other place that you’re finding cheaper cards. But if you can get a brand new 3gb for $180 then I would do that. Especially if you intend to upgrade gpu within the next couple years.
You can check for obvious damage on the card itself, and ask if you can see it operating in their computer. This also might make them less likely to sell you a bad card as you would then know where they live. Or if you're feeling cautious here is the cheapest 1060 3gb I could find new right now, going for $230. Or you could sub and watch r/buildapcsales for deals. Ive seen this card on there for $205 11 days ago, and $200 sales in person at microcenter advertised twice in the last 2 weeks.

would be 60% faster than the 1050 ti. I'd recommend it if you can allocate the extra bit of funds.
What's this PC supposed to do?
No i5 is worth buying atm -> Ryzen or wait 2 weeks.
Does it have to be itx? mATX is cheaper -> Prodigy M.
That fancy Strix 1050 Ti is $20 cheaper than a basic 1060 3gb, which is much better.

If I were in your position, I just wouldn't purchase a new GPU with less than 1060 performance. GPU market is pretty bonkers right now and it's not a good time to buy them unless you've got 1070/80ti money available to you.
EVGA Geforce GTX1060 $199 has my vote
PC upgrade question for POE
I have $300 dollars from Christmas and I want to upgrade my PC to get more performance for POE since that is all I play.. Of course I all ready bought my supporter pack.
Currently, I run POE on Dx9 Lowest settings
AMD Phenom 4core 3.0ghz
Radeon HD5500
8GB Ram
SSD
So I want to get a new video card. Should I get the 3gb and more Motherboard Ram or just the 6gb video card? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KUADE3O/ref=twister_B01JA2DCKS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1.
I am sure I will see an improvement, either way. But want to fight the good fight against ground effects..
I would drop the cpu cooler since the i3-6100 comes with one and that will be sufficient enough. The gtx 1060 is better than the 1050ti for only $50 more. Also the wifi card you have is overpriced and this does the same for cheaper. And I doubt you really need a cd writer but your choice. This is also a cheaper psu with close to the same wattage.
Your motherboard is completely fine. You could upload it if you want but you wouldn't need to. I would just get a GeForce GTX 1060 and call it a day.
Also you only have to get a new version of Windows if it is the OEM version.
Thanks! So you'd recommend this one? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KUADE3O/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_TwWxybPJN98BZ
Is that $50 better than the Gtx 1050 Ti I mentioned in the OP? Also any insight on the port question I had in the OP too?

I can get a brand new 1060 for less than your price.
The Tomahawk costs $100 (after rebate) in micro center, but the bundle price with CPU lowers the price by $50. But, the bundle iself with this specific motherboard and CPU is not listed on the site (this mobo + Ryzen 7 1700 is, or Ryzen 5 1600 with other B350 mobos)
So it may be safer to go with the Asus PRIME B350-PLUS AM4 ATX, Gygabite GA-AB350-Gaming AM4 ATX or GA-AB350-Gaming 3 AM4 ATX which all have $250 bundle prices listed on microcenter webiste.
For the video card, that's true, the GTX 1060 3GB can be had for $228 new and is a bit better than the 970 (I had to go look at benchmarks again, I thought the 970 did better, but I was wrong).
You can get a 3 gb 1060 for $230.

linkey 1 linkey 2
Thought it was £210 for the SC but I found a seller for cheaper here
So basically, The MB and CPU I have are bottom line and to upgrade would to swap everything and start fresh? I cant keep this MOBO at all?
If thats the case, What parts can I look into that are comparable to high end that wont completely break me?(even if I have to buy in pieces) Im sure that Ryzen 5 is great, but there is better for a decent price, no?
And tell me about it. I started to figure that out when I asked for help. The kid is smart and has a killer rig, but apparently he likes to give me the run around. He recommended [this] (https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-04G-P4-6253-KR/dp/B01MF7EQJZ), going on to say that he runs a [GTX 1060] (https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-03G-P4-6160-KR/dp/B01KUADE3O/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1536664980&sr=1-2&refinements=p_89%3AEVGA%2Cp_36%3A1253506011) in his and that I should spring for that if I have the extra cash.
I dont know any more. Those are both in my price range, but I cant help but feeling like there is better for the same price, like [this one for example] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KMVHB6M/ref=psdc_284822_t1_B01KUADE3O). What would you personally recommend on this? I just dont know much about building yet, and I cant trust me self to make a good decision when it comes to these things, which is why I posted in the first place. I feel so cheated.
I appreciate all the advice and info. I get the feeling you arent going to give the run around so any personal recommendation are great. You have been awesome. Thank you.

I've been looking at getting a new card but I don't know what is worth upgrading to, preferably I still want to maintain a low TDP so I'm looking at the 1060. I'm not completely knowledgeable in GPUs, although I see higher numbers when comparing their specs I always recall hearing that the 950 wasn't worth upgrading to (when it first came out) and that had higher specs than the 750ti. So I don't know at what point I can tell that I will see a difference. All within a budget of ($200-$300USD)
Any tips, or is the 1060 exactly what I'm looking for? https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-03G-P4-6160-KR/dp/B01KUADE3O/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1473516543&sr=1-1&keywords=1060
In case bottlenecking might be an issue, I have a i7-2600 and 16GB of RAM.
is this the one you were talking about specifically? https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-03G-P4-6160-KR/dp/B01KUADE3O/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1473456063&sr=8-4&keywords=nvidia+geforce+gtx+1060
The GPU and CPU pairing seems fine to me for now. Make sure to overclock your ryzen, its very easy and definitely worth looking into. Upgrade to at least a 1060 3gb. The 760 seems to be OK for 1080p, but I honestly can't recommend it or anything lower than a 1050Ti 4gb for 1080p 60hz. I would say your upgrade path could go as follows in order of first to last purchase:
1080P
1080P 144hz
1440P 144hz
All in all, make sure to OC your ryzen 3 (to reasonable standards of Voltage, try to keep it below 1.35V on a b350,) so that you get the most performance for your money. It's very simple. I would say that the 760 will no longer be useful once you upgrade to 1080p. For a 1080P 60hz build you may want to put yourself in a position to afford the monitor and whatever gpu you go for at the same time to garner the best experience.
I think this combo is a good choice for 1080P 60hz:

Awesome. Thanks again for your insight. Is this similar to the card you're talking about? https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Support-Graphics-03G-P4-6160-KR/dp/B01KUADE3O/ref=pd_lutyp_simh_1_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01KUADE3O&pd_rd_r=DPFGJHYC1Z197AE7VR1B&pd_rd_w=QvYdg&pd_rd_wg=RvfyD&psc=1&refRID=DPFGJHYC1Z197AE7VR1B
Forgot to mention Overclocking the GPU is a definite
Edit: also forgot to mention here are the cards

I'm not talking about Vega, but again, MSRP is meaningless. It's not false advertising to sell above MSRP.

Where is it indicated that the 3GB card has fewer CUDA cores? Naming them both 1060 when they are actually different GPU configs is misleading. At release people would have heard stuff like "the 1060 is better than the 480" without realising that it only applies to the 6GB card.
I'm not some kind of fanboy, I've owned more Nvidia cards than AMD, and I recently helped my brother pick out a 1060 6GB ACX 3.0.
I just spent a full hour writing about this but it got deleted by my mistake :-:

The CPU is good enough for the game you will be playing, the motherboard is good enough and more expensive ones sell you feature you don't need. The RAM will do you fine and is enough for any game you want and the GPU will be perfect for 1080p with 3GB of VRAM. For storage, go with a cheap 500GB HDD but I would certainly recommend an SSD for the future. The power supply will do you fine no matter what anyone else says, trust me (powers my R9 280X which is a LOT more power hungry).
I would recommend looking round Ebay, Facebook selling sites etc etc for any used components or 'starting points' with Ebay being the best bet in my opinion due to the massive amounts of sellers. If you see a 6600 or a 6600k for the same or less than on Amazon, snag it up and make sure to have a CPU cooler with it (stock will do you again, I have experience with 6600/6500 running on stock coolers and it's perfectly fine)
Sorry if the response looks rushed, I had a better one but I clicked something and it deleted :'(
Would love to hear about how the build goes, may your frames be high and temperatures at a low enough level!
EDIT BEFORE POSTING : 'Bomba' recommended an 8GB RX 470 - that's pointless for 1080p in my opinion and having a Pentium Dual core isn't something anyone would crave. I also have bad experience with Corsair PSUs but I haven't tried the 450W.
I'm only 14 so I'm a little tight and trying to say cheap as possible so would this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01KUADE3O/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1486926656&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=gtx+1060&dpPl=1&dpID=51wiYp3K7wL&ref=plSrch be the same as what you sent me?
