It's amazing what you can find on Amazon Prime. From rubber bands to advanced robotics, there's a vast plethora of items that you can have dumped on your doorstep the next day, all for absolutely free - Well, not really, there's a monthly subscription fee. But anyway, is Gunpla available on Prime? Well, not much, but yeah. The cheapest of which is the old HGUC RGM-79, the original GM from Mobile Suit Gundam, which you can swipe for a little over a tenner. However, this kit is not only classic in its design, but also as a kit - This comes from 2001, just ten years after High Grade was announced. It's certainly leaps ahead of its predecessors, but how does it stack up today?

In short: Reasonably well.

There's no skipping and dancing around the fact that this is a fairly dated model. But even so, it still looks alright, if quite simplistic. But you know what? It's anime accurate in that sense - MSG didn't have the high amount of detail found in IBO or Thunderbolt's linart, nor the slick CGI of The Origin. So the RGM-79 being such a slick and simple kit is very fitting for what it is. The overall shaping is very recogniseable, seeing as this GM model was based on the original Gundam, the RX-78-9. It differs however with much blockier arms and flatter kneepads, and of course a much more robotic head with that visor. As for the colours, the minty green blends unusually well with the bright Bandai red. Not so sure about the black sticker on the tummy though, or the fact that the ankle mechanics are also minty green.

In terms of construction, the RGM-79 is very simplistic, which is evident when you see just how small the kit's box is! You get two runners of plastic parts - one in multiple colours, another in the minty green - a runner of polycaps, and one lone sticker. These parts go together relatively easily, resulting in a figure which has just enough mobility;

  • The head can rotate and tilt on a balljoint, but cannot look up and down that much at all.
  • The shoulders can rotate forward, back and out on fixed dowels attached to the back upper torso piece - No swing-out polycap.
  • There's a bicep cut, a single jointed elbow with a 90° bend, and balljoint wrists.
  • The torso can pop upwards slightly to allow for tilting from side to side. It can also swivel at the waist.
  • The side skirts and front skirt (yes, singular) can all swing out. The front skirt is quite limited, but you can get more range by popping the torso upwards.
  • There is no thigh cut, but the hip joint is a balljoint with a decent range of motion.
  • The double jointed knee provides a little over 90°.
  • The ankles are on balljoints, with a fair amount of motion in all the required directions.
  • The ankle guards can swivel up and down.
  • The shield attaches to the arm via a dowel, but has a balljoint for positioning.

Due to its simple construction, the model feels both lightweight but also very solid. While the mobility leaves a lot to be desired, it's still good enough for what this MS is - You can still attain some decent action poses if you so desire.

One surprising aspect of the construction is the head - Two parts sandwich together, with one translucent part snapped onto the front part to provide the visor and camera. This means that the head is entirely hollow! This however is fine, as it's not too obvious. The lower legs are also ridiculously simplistic, simply consisting of two parts that sandwhich around a single polycap for the knee joint. The mechanism for the waist section is interesting, although it would've been nice to get an ab-crunch of some description too. Honestly the only really disappointing thing about this kit in terms of mobility is those shoulders. While the upper arm can move about as much as you'd like it to, the shoulders themselves feel very static. But honestly that's fine, as this isn't exactly an MS you're going to be putting into zany karate poses.

One big thing I'll warn about with this kit is the beam saber - It's a toothpick. If you have a spare beam saber effect part however, you can easily mod a peg hole into the removable hilt from the GM's backpack, and give him some proper sharps.

All in all, for its time this kit is pretty nice. It looks the business, and is honestly as poseable as it needs to be. Some may find it disappointing, but as it's a cheap, massable grunt suit, you can't really knock it. I'd certainly recommend the RGM-79 for anybody looking for a simple kit to pass the time with, but if you're looking for mobility I'd go for something newer - the HG Revive RX-78-2 perhaps?

EDIT: Full disclosure - I am neither endoresed nor sponsored by Amazon. I just enjoy next-day delivery a bit too much, much to the dismay of my wallet.

https://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/page.php?id=6193

This is geared towards climbers but has the best section on rehabilitation that I've seen for joint/pip/pulley injuries. If you have had pain for that long you've likely developed scar tissue...this is going to make things tougher and will require GENTLE stretching and massage to gradually break it up while also strengthening the area.

Similar to climbing, most of typing involves using "finger muscles" (which are actually in your forearm) in only one direction (the one used to close your fingers, not open them). Therefore, one of the best exercises to prevent injuries is to do the reverse exercise, which is finger extension with resistance. This is in the doc, though I have to say rubber bands were never sufficient, and I highly recommend a set with variable "weights," for example this one: https://www.amazon.com/Expand-Your-Hand-Bands-10-Pack-Goodbye/dp/B00083B79M/ref=sr_1_1

I actually have one next to my desk right now. As a bonus, if you play golf or tennis this will also help with "elbow" pain, which is really due to tendon strain as a result of lack of strength in the same muscle group.

While you massage, stretch, and most importantly strengthen, do not be afraid to use the offending area. They DO grow back, but you need to get blood there. That means using it. Good luck :)

u/TheeSweeney · 2 pointsr/GripTraining

Grip training is tricky because compared to most other forms of strength training, there is much more emphasis on tendon strength. And the thing about tendons is that they don't give you the same kind of feedback that muscles do when they get tired. All this means I've found it's easier to overtrain and injure your tendons, and so it's important to throw in extra rest days here and there, especially as a beginner or when upping the resistance.

Take some time off, stretch your hands, and you'll probably be alright.

Also, don't neglect the forearm muscles used to open your fingers. A lot of grip trainers focus solely on squeeze strength to their detriment, the equivalent of exclusively working out your biceps but never your triceps. For the most effective strength t's important to work complimentary muscle groups. I've been using these after a tennis player friend recommended them to me a few years ago and they're excellent.

u/GlassKingsWild · 2 pointsr/Vaping

You can buy packs of them from amazon like these or perhaps these. Just get ones that fit your tank. 21-22mm will usually stretch and fit well on bubble glass, for straight glass they'll stay but are too easily moved around, imo. So I'd look for something a bit smaller for that tank like these 18mm ones. The width of the band is also measured in mm, and thicker is almost always going to be better. I wouldn't bother with the super thin ones like the SMOK ones that are only 2-3mm tall, cuz they dont protect for crap unless you use a bunch. For reference, 6mm = 1/4", 12mm = 1/2".

Most online vape sites, surprisingly, don't sell them and when they do they're usually overpriced. Hence the Amazon links.

Warning: The mounting brackets for the hard drives do not accommodate newer hard drives (6TB or larger) with the different mounting points on the bottom. Here is an article outlining the changes. The second image shows the screw holes on the bottom of the HDDs where the rightmost one is how manufacteres used to make drives, but the larger drives are like the leftmost and middle. This results in being able to screw only two out of the four positions which isn't good. I learned this after the fact and I couldn't find a mounting adapter or anything like that so I made due by getting big rubber bands and using the 2/4 screws.

Also, I contacted support and they were completely unhelpful. And then I bungled my reply as well by saying "all" instead of "no". I believe it should be specified on every product listing that you won't be able to easily use large drives with this case especially since the biggest selling feature of this case is that it can fit six drives.

Edit: It looks the brackets have been updated to include an additional hole to help secure the newer drives.

I don't know about cases, stickers might work. I have these silicone bands from Grifiti Bands I got off amazon, but the company rocks to deal with directly too. I use them on mason jars and other things for grip, so a couple stacked bands might do you (basically food grade silicone bands like bracelets).

If you don't like your friend, get him a hard gripper.

Cheap, easy, and safe things might include expansion bands or a wrist roller.

The most practical solution for someone genuinely wanting stronger hands (and not a fidget toy for when they're bored) would be something like an adjustable Ivanko Super Gripper, though they are not cheap.

u/beSmrter · 8 pointsr/boardgames

12" silicone X bands

I have been satisfied with these on Dominion, Five Tribes, Escape. Also, I'd read somewhere that the silicone will not degrade over time and stick/melt into the boxes.

The 9" bands do well for Race for the Galaxy, Leaving Earth etc.

Wish I had seen this Assorted sizes pack before now. The small ones are probably great for little games like Chronicle.

Edit: More links.

u/AnOctaveAbove · 2 pointsr/httyd

I'm pretty sure you'd be better off making your own; you can buy the bands for dirt cheap.

http://www.amazon.com/Latex-free-Silicone-Refill-Bands-1800pcs/dp/B00F3TKLRA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407017421&sr=8-1&keywords=loom+bands

I'm glad that you like my design though! :)

u/EstherHarshom · 57 pointsr/theydidthemath

I'm going to take a slightly different approach here. The trick is in the phrase 'and they can stretch as big as you need'.

In theory, according to the rules you set out, we could stretch a rubber band as long as we needed, twist it around, and put it back around itself -- the way you would with a hair-tie if you were fastening a ponytail. Because we know that no matter how far we stretch it it's never going to break, we can loop it around and around as many times as we like. It'll get thinner and thinner and thinner as we do, allowing the molecules to get closer and closer together, until effectively the whole thing becomes indistinguishable from the bands next to it -- in effect, it becomes one solid mass of rubber. However, there IS a limitation, and that limitation is the mass of the band. Every day, we get to add one band's worth of rubber to what will effectively become our ball (a solid mass by the time we're done, so don't go trying to pick the bands off once you're finished; they'll be no use as office supplies anymore).

Google gives me a mass of the Earth of 5.97219 × 10^24 kilograms. Based on an Amazon search, we can get thirty bands for around 50g for the reasonable-enough price of £1.59. By that reckoning, we'd need 1.194438 × 10^26 packets of bands to do the job, or £1.89915642 × 10^26 worth. For comparison, the GDP of the entire world was £52.04 trillion in 2012, so you're going to have to save up a while to be able to afford it. Don't worry, though: at one band a day, it will take you 3.583314 × 10^27 days to get your ball to the right mass. That's around 700,000,000,000,000 times longer than the age of the universe, or as scientists call it, a long-ass time.

But you didn't ask for the mass; what you asked for was a rubber band ball the size of the Earth. We can work that out too, although it takes a couple more steps. The average density of the Earth is 5,515kg/m^3, which means that if we were to chop the Earth up into convenient m^3 sized blocks, we'd need 1.08289937 × 10^21 of them. How long would it take us to make a rubber band ball of the same size? Well, if we ignore the compression aspect of it (which would naturally make the ball smaller as we added more bands to it), then Wikipedia tells us that most rubber bands are made of natural rubber, and this site gives us the average density of pure gum rubber at 910-930 kg/m^3 (let's call it 920); as a result, it would take around 552,000 bands (or roughly 1,500 years) to make just one of those balls of equivalent volume. Multiply it out by how many you'd need -- 1.08289937 × 10^21 -- and you're looking at around 1,636,260,948,070,000,000,000,000,000,000 years.

Better get started, then.

Since those are Third party items for mainly the Frame Arms an original line of kits mirroring MG Gundam models, then its unreliable in how it fits to other companies and their kits.

If you can find tiny translucent clear rubber bands, I have had a few for figures and I have them on their hands on keep their weapons in place. On an MG it should be easy enough to hide between fingers and other crevices as well as being translucent. Offers a different option vs glue or blu tac.

Considering the recent craze for "loom bands" then finding such should very very very easy.

Here is a UK listing for such http://www.amazon.co.uk/Braiding-Elastics-Polyurethane-Dreads-Braids/dp/B009QXQH0E
and a US one http://www.amazon.com/Gold-Magic-Clear-Elastic-Braiding/dp/B000NJHONY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420893985&sr=8-1&keywords=Clear++small+rubber+bands

If you feel like the white of the band might be too much and not clear enough, you could just get some black ones and those should blend into your gunpla's hands nicely. (if they are black....)

u/mr_marble_man · 1 pointr/GripTraining

Dude, thanks so much again for the informative response! Going to shoot for higher reps with the Trainer before moving back to the #1.

While I got you here, quick question (since you seem to know what you're talking about); do you have any thoughts on these expander band things?:

http://www.amazon.com/Expand-Your-Hand-Bands-10-Pack-Goodbye/dp/B00083B79M?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_1&smid=A2T23XKLYNBN84

I'm thinking they might be good to do on days I'm not doing grip training to avoid injury and increase flexibility. I'd imagine one could just use strong rubber bands or whatever but they're cheap enough that I'm thinking about ordering them. I noticed some soreness after using my #1 before I got the Trainer and it seemed expanding my fingers (even without the tension of bands) was helpful in relieving it.

u/edbutler3 · 1 pointr/GripTraining

Yes, it will help with the extensors on the top of your forearm.

I bought this pack: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00083B79M/ which I like because it gives you a number of progressively wider bands so you can do progressive overload like in any other strength training.

u/ez617 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I think you should get her this bag of colorful rubber bands. If she's bored or stressed out, she can create her own rubber band ball! Might sound sorta lame, but I totally did this my freshman year and loved it. :) College Bound, surprise me.

u/Corndogmasterful · 2 pointsr/LARP

There are a few "rifle" and pistol styles made by companies, but in all honestly they are far too small and silly looking for a man to carry around. They don't really have the shape and look of a flintlock or matchlock/wheel-lock firearm. I have made most of mine by hand. For a long rifle, I used a 2x12 and cut it to the shape I wanted (looked online to find a pattern that I liked then glued a plastic clothespin at the back of the barrel location. You'll have to order some larger heavy duty rubber bands or make your own with surgical tubing.

Here is a link for the type of bands I use for my musket.
http://www.amazon.com/Alliance-SuperSize-Resealable-Containing-Inches/dp/B0017D16PW/ref=sr_1_3?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1418397209&sr=1-3&keywords=rubber+bands+12

I'll post a picture of some pistols i'm working on later.

u/eric_twinge · 3 pointsr/Fitness

If I recall correctly (and I'm sure someone will point out any error in the comments) there aren't actually any muscles in the fingers.

I would think your standard grip work would do well for you. As for the comparable opening hand movement, I've had these in my wishlist for quite some time.

edit: Yes! Wikipedia for the win!
>Fingers do not contain muscles other than arrector pili muscles. The muscles that move the finger joints are in the palm and forearm. The long tendons that deliver motion from the forearm muscles may be observed to move under the skin at the wrist and on the back of the hand.

u/Stubb · 1 pointr/CompetitionShooting

Everyone uses the Captains of Crush. These things are no joke—the Trainer model will be plenty challenging if you're pretty strong. Back off to the Sport or Guide if you're not.

The Expand Your Hand Bands are recommended for working the opposing muscles and warding off tendonitis.

Be careful mixing grip training with serious dry fire. It's real easy to flare up some nasty tendonitis in your elbows.

I bought these: Alliance Rubber 42199 #19 Non-Latex Antimicrobial Rubber Bands, 1/4 lb box contains approx. 360 bands (3 1/2" x 1/16", Cyan Blue) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0017TPZNU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_XyiulPoWx6oo6

I believe that is the same brand that Joe buys although I think he had to get a bunch of custom colors then he treats them with the Elastraflex. I actually bought a pack of the treated Rainbow to see if they perform better(plus I wanted more colors), but the blue one work great otherwise.

Ok, hopefully these will be able to fit.

Honestly, get a couple of big rubber bands like these and you'll probably be fine. What's the manufacturer and model of the shaker, maybe you can find something from there?

u/PlumpkinPirate · 1 pointr/Carpentry

I like your idea about the rope, but I think would be simpler and more effective to use some small cabinet knobs and a rubber band material. You could put a couple of knobs near two of corners and wrap a rubber band or hair tie around them. Space them so the band will be taut.

Here is a diagram (imagine the door is closed — knobs in red, band in black): https://imgur.com/a/wajgHCF

Let's see, I found that Escobar made roughly 420 million dollars a week so he would have made approximately 1.8 billion dollars a month.

I can't really imagine how much he paid for rubber bands or how much money he stacked in each rubber band. I'll assume he made stacks of 10'000 dollars each and that a pack of 500 rubber bands costs 4$.

If he made 1.8 billion dollars a month he would have had to use 1'800'000'000/10'000 = 180'000 rubber bands. Therefore he would have spent 180'000/500*4 = 1'440 $ which is less than 2'800 but still quite significant. The final result could vary widely based on how the money was stacked and how much he spent for rubber bands but 2'800 could actually be true.

Better cheaper option. Also multiple sizes so you can use thicker filters which work better.

Grafiti Band Pocket Wallet has done a nice job for my 2 cards + ID. Occasionally some cash. Trick is to use it on the end of the cards, not the middle as shown. Much easier access.

You can either pay this person £20 for 10 rubber bands, some image files, and some printed stuff, or buy 1800 rubber bands for $3.85.

Seems a pretty clear-cut choice for anybody capable to living without adult supervision.

I use these cross-style silicone bands! They work great for the IP.

For those who need to do this while moving the computer around, heavyweight rubber bands work to secure the keyboard. The Macbook can even be used in bed. The only thing that can't be done is closing the computer, and certainly you'd never want to show it to anyone, but otherwise the contraption is an acceptable substitute until you replace or repair the computer.

u/saifrc · 2 pointsr/boardgames

Those bands are Grifiti X bands, designed to keep game boxes closed during transit. I have them on a lot of my games, particularly ones that I take with me more frequently. They're not the best version for storage, because they're a little on the thick side. There are slimmer versions out there, but it's convenient to be able to buy a whole bunch of these in different sizes and colors, and they work well on non-game boxes as well.

Rubber bands seem safe. I bought some wide long ones on amazon for my cat awhile ago. Here's the link, it might work for you:

Interesting. I use 1 or 2 of the sizes in this https://smile.amazon.com/Alliance-SuperSize-Resealable-Containing-Inches/dp/B0017D16PW/ref=pd_sim_229_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=VSAZB9ZP7PJZK8C0BS5F (on mobile) and they don't warp or stress my box lids. 5 inches doesn't warp the larger boxes?

Do you need it to be "permanent" as in survives shop use or "permanent" as in unable to be removed by a conniving employee?

If #2 then engraving is your best option. If #1 then I'd think about something that can identify the sets, but can also be changed by you as sets and tools get rearranged (if necessary).

It seems that if set 1 is missing a tool and set 2 has a tool that is missing its ID, then it's pretty easy to put 2 and 2 together. In other words, the IDs don't need to be permanent, they just need to be consistent.

The sell small silicone rubber bands in tons of colors. You could put some around every tool handle and then tell people that it's there responsibility to keep their set together and make sure that every tool in the set is identified. The silicone should be okay with most acids etc. And if, say, you need to downsize from 5 sets to 4 you can cut off the bands and reorganize.

That being said, a really conniving employee could buy their own bands and use them to steal other sets' tools.

Yup - obviously the insert had to go... but it fits! :)

I also got one of those box rubber bands to help keep it all together - as it's tight and would SUCK if it popped open - Like these - but can't find the one I actually have.

You should get some kind of wrist extensor training tool to counter the flexor training you are about to do. I use these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00083B79M/ref=asc_df_B00083B79M5284604/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=395033&creativeASIN=B00083B79M&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198074695887&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7311871857324905174&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1023191&hvtargid=pla-320458756018

I love the CoC training tools, been using them for a while. Recently closed the 1.5 and now the 2 is what I am aiming for. Busting them out at parties to fuck with people is fun as hell

Gaffer's tape is the most durable and non-sticky tape I can think of, but it's expensive and mostly comes in black.

Are these pistol mags or do they stick out from the frame? If the latter, you could wrap them with different-colored rubber bands.

This is actually a valid question. The lasers do not have a brand that I know of. Just look for a 3 pack from china for $10. It's those:
