My current shopping want list far exceeds my current purchase funds which are approximately zero. But here are some of my more realistic in the near future wants, as opposed to the various designer pieces I've salivated over but will probably never be able to afford unless I win the lottery or something.

Top of the list is new sandals. Digging the design on the Dr. Marten Gryphons and they're on sale in my usual size in the dark brown color but reviews describing off sizing and lack of comfort both have me a little hesitant. Also, I would prefer them in white or tan possibly as most of my shoes are already black or dark brown.

Somewhere slightly below that is a pair of good casual slip-ons/loafers/pimsolls. Something classic but with a cool detail like these or a classic loafer for more casual/formal verstality

And while staying on the shoe conversation, something I would also very much like but is probably the least needed of various footwear options is another pair of good cuban heel boots. I have a black pair that serves me well but I'd like to invest in something in the aforementioned white or tan colors. I also like these pair of dark brown ones for the various details though the color wouldn't be my first choice.

Also, and more realistically the thing I'd be able to afford first is more short sleeve shirts as my closet is overrun with long sleeve tops at the moment. Particularly looking for cool or interesting patterns that aren't necessarily floral since I've been going hard on the floral the past few months. Interested in suggestions on this, particularly in slim fits as I'm a lanky guy and a lot of men's tops swallow my body up.

Last summer necessity is shorts. I've always preferred jeans for bottoms personally, but living in the deep South, shorts are an absolute necessity in the summer. Any suggestions on good and affordable men's shorts for tall lanky guys would be helpful as well.

Thank you all for your help! It really has helped.
I've been able to keep comfortably smart, considering my tight budget.

Bon Marché has been my best bet for affordable plus sized clothing, and I've just discovered Simply Be, which seems to be a nice contender.

As far as shoes go, I got a pair of low booties from Asda, which are surprisingly comfortable, cheap and cute. Also, I've been to Deichmann, who sells very smart, comfortable shoes of all sorts, heights and sizes, for extremely reasonable prices.

One last question, just for the sake of it: what's the opinion on espadrilles (like these Havaianas Unisex-Adult Origine III Sneakers Espadrilles, (Navy Blue/Beige), 7 UK (42 EU (40 Brazilian)) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01L41BVUQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_q674Cb2M8SR52)?.

Thanks again!

Why not both! The theory is the same, it's just the hand skills that are different. You'll probably find yourself gravitating to one or the other which is fine. Practice 30min - 1hour a day and you should pick it up pretty quickly. Tons of online tutorials for both instruments, just make sure you actually play along and do the exercises because just watching isn't good enough. Money wise you could get both a uke and mini keyboard for under $200 total.

Kala makes cheap ukuleles that sound pretty damn good. Their more expensive ones are good too, but no need to spend that much yet. Lohanu's are super popular and sound good as well.

Soprano is the more traditional size, Concert is a little bigger with a bit more fret spacing which is nice if you have big hands.

I'm looking for legit sandals that won't make my feet feel like crap when worn all day in the summertime. I'm sick of buying $15 cardboard from Target. Time to make an "adult" purchase :-)

Of course I've heard of Birkenstocks but I'm worried that those are a little too "adult". I'm not neccessarily looking for any "trends" or "styles" (as I ask on male fashion advice! lol). I just want something supportive.

I found a list of American Podiatric Medical Association "Seal of Approval" for sandals and it was a lot of Chaco's and Vionic. Interesting to note that there are no Birkenstocks on the list!

Chaco's seems more for hiking. I don't do any hiking, seems silly to buy regular sandals from Chaco's because that's not what they do? Although, these looks nice.

Vionic seems more fashionable and popular with women. But they do have men's products. Vionic's seems like the best in terms of "support" and "orthopedic". Lots of people that have plantar fasciitis in the review section :-)

So I'm wondering if Vionic's are TOO much for a guy like me? No plantar fasciitis - I don't think I have a problem with "over-pronating"... I just want some nice sandals. I'm looking at these.

What type of sandals do y'all have?

u/believe0101 · 2 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Haha mine are mostly business casual, I can give it a shot though....I wear mostly oxford #1/3/4 and boots #1/2/3 for work and am just now wearing more casual shoes for fun since it's warming up and I wanna expand things.

To be honest if I had to give away half my shoes tonight, it would be an easy choice. A lot of the cheaper shoes I got in college when I was figuring out my style. I'm a lot more specific in what I want now and what I need for work and leisure, so my purchases reflect that.

Take your time to buy what you like and don't be afraid to resell stuff or give shoes away to your brother or friends. That whole minimalist thing about how to tidy up by Marie Kondo applies a lot to clothes imo. There are dudes who own shoes worth five times what my collection but they might just like collecting. I make a point to wear my shoes or else I give them away (I'll be giving my beeswax desert boots and Keds to my brother once spring hits)

I'd be very interested if someone can recommend a truly BIFL pair of slippers. I am older than most Redditors (around 40) and have always had hard floors (oak and concrete) and I let it get down to 55-60F in the winter here. So the floor can get cold.

I've always used Acorn slippers from REI in the past. They were comfy and warm but they only lasted about 3 years. Now I'm actually using these and these Addidas shower/pool/home/light duty sandals in my house to protect the oak floors and they seem very solid and extremely comfy so far. But I'll have to wear wool socks with them and I don't know how long they will really last. But at $20 per pair, they are much more cost effective than most slippers.

So I'm wondering if there is a truly BIFL slipper.

Running barefoot often helps teach proper running technique. Don't assume you can run as far as you can with shoes though initially. Start slow with low mileage. Slowly build up as your feet adjust.

Also save up for some minimal shoes. I'm currently running in these and they feel great. Very similar to barefoot, yet with a nice thin layer of rubber to protect from glass, metal, sharp rocks, etc.

Another great option for cheap.

u/shadracko · 2 pointsr/bicycling

A third option is the Keen Commuter Cycling shoe. More like a water shoe, with better toe protection, but still great in the wet/humidity. Stable enough for pretty fast group rides.

What's your take on Fila Skeletoes? I got a pair to use as watershoes this summer, (2 dogs, both love swimming in the local creek) and they're really comfortable. It's nice to walk and feel the surface under my feet, i feel like I have better balance. I'm wondering how they'd do out of the creek as an everyday shoe?

u/chauie · 7 pointsr/streetwear

I would recommend these adidas adilette Supercloud Plus Slides. They are super comfortable. I've bought a few pairs as gifts for family and friends (who have said they love em) back when adidas had a 50% off glitch, but I would gladly pay full price for them.

Amazon has more style variations of these slides too if you're interested. I personally have this pair.

Board shorts and button up short sleeve shirts. Also masc sandals. Like, get those old man sandals. Cut your hair to suit your face, and drink all of the water. If you bind, tank binder, not a full length one. If you can get away without it, layer a thin button up over a tank top, button only one or two buttons to make the shirt cover what it needs to. If you need a reference, look at Steve Irwin's outfit (with slightly longer shorts), and just color it up a bit. Inconsistent patterns are a great way to distract from certain areas.

So, something like this:
Shorts https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J3L0GU0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_BwV3CbPH2Z7NB
Shirt https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HMKZD35/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2yV3CbQNBHJMK
Sandals https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KYHKJGL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YzV3CbNTBRPK1

Remember to drink plenty of water. Good luck!

u/mybro4sale · 2 pointsr/Sneakers

They're comfy as fuck too.

It's not my favorite color style, but I'm happy to work around it for the price I paid. They're normally like $80, think I paid under $40?

https://www.amazon.com/Onitsuka-Tiger-Ultimate-Fashion-Sneaker/dp/B019Q2LMC2?th=1

It's a great looking shoe.

u/wadcann · 1 pointr/news

Let's take a look at shoe prices. I'll take the top hit in each category, and use the default By Relevance sort. I prevent Amazon from keeping any state, so aside from geo-locating my IP (which would likely drive up pricing, not down), so any purchase history should not bias price.

u/kinganti · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I live in a beach community in Southern California. I have reluctantly become a flip-flops expert.

Rainbows are nice, sure... but over-priced IMO. and not as comfortable as others.

Sanuks are ok. I love the ones made of yoga-mat material. Very squishy in the right places.

Reef makes some nice ones. They even have ones with air-cushion and a bottle opener built-in.

Havanias are over-priced and the plastic between the toes can be uncomfortable for certain individuals.

u/grimace_1 · 0 pointsr/BuyItForLife

Shoes are a tough thing to BIFL. I wear flip flops about 90% of the time I leave my house which I like to think is a lot. I also longboard in my flip flops often, which wears down the bottoms very quickly. I rock these right now, its last years model. . Normally I get mine for 20$, haven't checked out this years line yet.

The Mizuno volleyball flip flops are outstanding. Very comfortable, not a long break in time, no blisters ever, great traction, adjustable, and breathable. They tend to last me for about 2 years a pair, and even then they are in great shape, and have just lost a lot of traction mostly from the boarding. Highly recommend.

u/chuck2814 · 2 pointsr/OkCupid

No they are leather. These are the ones I have:

https://www.amazon.com/Reef-phantom-player-leather-bronze/dp/B00DNNOED0/

Think those work? I like those ones from the Gap, maybe I should get something like that for dressier occasions? They are all leather as opposed to the ones in the link that are just leather on the top...but they are well built and have arch support. Mine are presentable, I keep them taken care of. I didn't realize that was so common.

u/RobbyTheBobby · 1 pointr/travel

I used these Chocos, they look a bit goofy on the website but I never felt stupid wearing them, they are really durable and great for everyday stuff, out at night, beach, waterfalls & rivers etc.

u/lur3nj14 · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

Rainbows leather sandals.

If you are in Southern California LA/SD area, the factory is in San Clemente and a pair double layer sandals that retails around $55 is $40ish. I've been wearing rainbows double layer wide strap year-round, other than the coldest of winter days when there are more than a couple inches of snow. It is very comfortable after the initial break-in, conforms to the shape of your foot with arch support and plenty of cushion.

u/OhTheSweetTea · 1 pointr/TeenMFA

Black Tevas

Wish I would have bought them before it was 90F+ every day...

u/fnaelli · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I've had my Double Layer Rainbows for over three years and I'm just now considering replacing them. I'm a little hesitant because of how damn comfortable they are having been on my feet for so long. They've probably seen the most miles on the ground out of any shoes I own and would recommend them to anyone. $50 may be a little steep for flip flops for some people, but they've served me well over several vacations, camping trips, hikes believe it or not, and three summers of essentially living in them. 9/10 product.
