I purchased my electric scooter (first paycheck) at the start of Summer 2018, and before that, was that guy on a kick scooter. The climate for electric scooters on campus went from what I could tell was me and another dude I saw once every month, to now seeing at least 3 every day.

I fear that what was once mild amusement to people now will become hatred when millions are everywhere and half the people scooting around purchased one have no idea what common courtesy is and attempt scootihicular pedestrianslaughter on the sidewalks, souring public opinion. Worrying premonitions aside, I can not say enough about how much I love my scooter to get around. It's the perfect combination of vehicle, where you don't have to worry about storing it like a bike, or if you never gained the magical skills to not die on a longboard/skateboard, a pretty easy to use ride. I use mine everyday and it does a good job. If you can use a longboard/skateboard those are very good options for pretty cheap human propelled transportation that are very popular, although I'll always have a soft spot for the A5 Lux Kick Scooter I used to roll around with. Brakes are neat, yo!

As for which scooter to get, I'm not up with the scooter times, but I use the Segway ES1 I purchased at Sam's Club for $350. Judging by the fact I've never actually seen another one of those out on campus (If you see a dude on one of these, probably wearing flip-flops, feel free to wave hello, say hi, and not hate me, I try to be as courteous as possible to other pedestrians/cyclists!), gonna go out on a limb and say they are no longer for sale at Sam's Club. However what I have seen on campus are the Xiaomi Mi or maybe this go trax thing. Can't speak for those at all, but they sure are popular.

The electric scooter market is pretty cheap, with the prices being low, but with the quality being low as well. There was literally like two options when I got mine, with the one I did get being sold off on clearance, but now with the explosion in this segment, the skies the limit, maybe.

Overall, the utility of an electric scooter is a great value for what they cost, and I'd happily answer any questions you've got. Also, yes I am a bit of a electric scooter nut/loser, if this thesis of a post is anything to go by.

I replaced the stock brakes with Hydraulic Disc Brakes. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33028813591.html

Stock brakes on the 10x will stop you but, I hated them. They squealed like a pig and lacked the stopping power of hydraulic ones. The hydraulic ones modulate much better than the stock ones and if you have any experience wrenching of a bike it is not that hard to do, and it was a good opportunity to swap them so the breaks are on the correct side for the US. I never heard of nutt brakes before, but I did not know enough about the electrical side of scooter e brakes to experiment so I just picked a known working set. my emtb has trp 4 cylinder ones and these nutt ones are just 2 cylinder, maybe someday I will see if I can find a good 4 cylinder set to even get better stopping power and larger rotors but these are working much better than the stock ones. You need some basic soldering skills, some shrink tube and I would recommend some dielectric grease just some extra waterproofing of your electrical work. BTW I did fkup my install a bit, so I needed to bleed the brakes, If you need a working bleed kit brand let me know and I can point you to one that has the right adapters.

I also ordered a set of spare wheels and tubes, I thought better to have them and need them, then to need them and not have them so I got the 3 inch street ones and the far right side that included the tube https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33034063345.html

Lastly for the hell of it and it has not arrived yet so I can't tell you if I will ever use it or not, I purchased the 10x seat. It appears to be just quick released on, if it required any screws, or be permanently attached I would not use it. So we will see, I got it on a whim.

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33009819661.html

I bought a Suspension Adjuster, I have no idea if will be useful or not but it was cheap and I was ordering crap so I just got it.

Oh yeah I did add the following bag and drink holder incase I wanted to pick up some food, drink or some tools and a charger or 2 and take it with me. Oh I did buy 2 chargers, that seemed like a good idea since you can dual charge the 10x.

I had a phone mount but I dont like it the cockpit is rather crowded already, so need to do some thinking on that.

I do need to add a bell for safety but I have a spare, and I just never added it, I have also been considering buying another timberbell because I love it on my mbt. because it is passive and can be locked off when not needed.

not sure about a mirror, just seem like a thing to get broken or snagged on something causing a crash

Oh the lighting sucks but I think a light on my lid might be the best way to go, but I might consider hardwiring something in some day in the future, as a better headlight.

u/Belgain_Roffles · 2 pointsr/ninebot

I have one of these and it works OK. I extended one half (split by shoulder strap) as far as it would go and one half as short as it would go. I then also made the end loops as small as they would allow. I then hook the two loops first just under than handle bars to the short half and then just below the folding hinge for the longer half.

In order to carry it at this point I pull the strap over my shoulder in a manner similar to a rifle with a strap. I then use my right hand to stabilize the stabilize the lowest part of the scooter. It's definitely not perfect but also definitely better than a one or two hand carry when entering a building/elevator/etc...

I am unable to fully line the shoulder pad up with my shoulder due to the adjustment limits on the strap and you have to be careful with the rubber cover over the front suspension. It's better than nothing but still could be a great deal better.

u/tylerjurczyk · 2 pointsr/ninebot

Okay guys, I need someone with some more insight.

I have the ninebot es4, which I suppose is the unofficial version of the es2 plus external battery. I got it from a police auction, it was previously a bird scooter. I removed the brain and purchased an aftermarket dashboard... link here

for Ninebot by Segway ES1 ES2 ES4 Foldable Electric Scooter-Original Dashboard Switch On-Off Assembly https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JZYGP7B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_u2e4Cb65YRVF7

So I got the dashboard and installed it. The scooter rides just as it should, for the most part. I do not have any mode switching functionality. It is stuck in normal power mode. Other forums advise switching the metric/imperial settings. It does turn the s on the dash red but when converted on Google it still is doing normal speed but just in kmh. Double tapping the power button only turns the headlight on. As well as single tapping.

So my next step was attempting to flash the firmware with a custom one from here...

https://ninebot.scooterhacking.org/

And using the esdowng tool.

I did all the necessary steps to begin flashing the firmware but get this each and every time. I provided pictures below in the link.

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1yPAWSWzgbGKhRpz6lRtcMBUNstTMRXsi

Also I tried to use the esrollback app to try rolling back and flash afterwards and I'll show you in the next link what I see..

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1--jWm9dCq309z7QF73SdmktLT8Xv_eJG

Okay, well hopefully I provided enough information for now. Thanks guys any help would be great!!

u/Heisenberger_ · 1 pointr/techsupport

I'm not sure if you mean the connectors? The ones on the left are called ring terminals, and the ones on the right I'm not positive but I found varying results by searching for "2-pin connector." Here's a link to one that looks like it might fit in those. Hope it helps :)

Edit: Also found this amazon link which looks exactly like the product you have. Might be some info there?

Edit 2: so upon even further inspection that whole unit is called a controller and is kind of like the ecu for the go kart. It has cables for the battery, the motor, the ignition and the throttle, brake lights, etc.

u/ArmadaZero · 9 pointsr/ElectricScooters

Ok...didn't realize I had to add a comment to add text to an image post. Anyway...

Long story short: first time I rode, I slipped and fell and had nasty road rash. The ignition on my scooter was fucked and I was in recovery for about 2 weeks.

Here we are weeks after, everything has healed completely except for my shoulder and wrist. I sprained the shit out of it apparently. I bought some gear to keep me protected and this is what I use:

After doing some errands on the scooter today, two things I've realized: riding for a while really takes a toll on your legs, mostly calves and your hands really cramp up after a while (3+ hours). When I had the accident, I was going 20mph and while I was riding today, I realized why I fell. The speed never went down because with the Emove cruiser, if you hold the throttle for a while, it automatically activates cruise control. I figured out you can just turn it off by pressing the throttle twice but still, better late than never. Also I got a little too confident and went to the second mode instead of just staying on the first. I rode today strictly on the first mode and everything went smoothly. My only complaint is how stupid hot it gets where I live and I was drenched in sweat by the end of the day

Edit: I forgot to mention the smaller things I've attached to the scooter

If you want to ride in the night it’s probably best to have a helmet with built in lights like this one or a light for your current helmet like this one. A Strap clip with light would probably be helpful if wearing a backpack: strap clip light holder . Also some lights for the board like Shreadlights or Board Blazers.

u/ebaldestein · 4 pointsr/ElectricScooters

Nice but…

I’d just recommend to buy something like this since it’s way easier to install and looks way better imho.

I’m not sure if installing a red rear light on the front of the scooter is a good idea.

u/tenancient · 2 pointsr/ElectricScooters

I have two of these controllers:

Dilwe Scooter Brushless Controller, 36V/48V 1200W Aluminum Alloy Shell Motor Bicycle Speed Controller for Electric Bike https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F1TWZ2L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_C92VDbH3FAZB8

They're each powered in parallel to a big ass battery that I put together by hand. But would be much easier just to buy a 14s6p lithium ion battery from China. I'm just too cheap, and harvested several other batteries and soldered them together, managed by a 14s BMS from eBay.

Each 1200w controller runs a stock m365 front wheel/hub motor. For the back wheel I basically removed the standard wheel and used a metal file to create two channels from the tail leading into the slots for the standard back wheel. Then I bolted in a second m365 front wheel I bought on eBay for $50. Takes quite a bit of elbow grease to make it fit securely. You can't run two of these motors on one control (tried that and it lurches all over the placed without a dedicated hall control setup for each motor). But, you can use the stock throttle and some basic switches from home depot (for on/off power, 3 speed choice, cruise control on/off, reverse?- didn't use this feature) to manage both controllers simultaneously. You're dependent on the regenerative braking to slow down, which is actually pretty effective at high speed and has diminishing stopping power as you slow-- so since I'm a bigger guy (230#) I often stop from about 5mph like I'm stopping a skateboard.

After I hooked everything up and strapped it down with bolts to the frame, I wrapped most of it in plastic and then black self adhesive waterproof sport tape/gauze. So it kind looks like a big black cloth bag mounted there. Stuck on some reflective tape for flare, and burned rubber.

Literally. It left black skidmarks with acceleration all over my driveway from just gunning it every time for the first few weeks. The front tire is now a bit slicked out after just a month, so I've tried to be more careful with acceleration. Will probably need a new 10inch tire when the rains come.

u/xquicksilv3rgx · 1 pointr/boostedscooters

Like what the other redditor said, bend it back. However, I'd like to add that you should probably heat it up (i.e. dunk in a boiling water for a few minutes) use tongs to grab it, and then place it somehwere that is heat resistant, smooth surface, and then hammer tap it until it reshapes straight again. If that's too much of a hassle, I just examined the brake disc and it seems oddly similar to my Xiaomi M365, so maybe buy a replacement part at amazon such as the link below (you can always return if it doesn't fit):

HTOMT Brake Disc Sets Replacement Parts Accessories for Same Size of Xiaomi M365 Pro Electric Scooter, 110MM(6 Holes) Rear Brake Disc Pad and Universal Caliper with Screw Kits (Black(6 Holes)) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TF6483G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_dyvCDbR497NXF

But, you still have that 12 month warranty, so maybe call boosted up and tell them your situation. Maybe they'll send a replacement part and for free!

u/JacobSyndeo · 3 pointsr/ElectricScooters

Thanks!

And yeah, that’s a phone holder, even branded as Ninebot:
https://www.amazon.com/SPEDWHEL-Original-NINEBOT-Electric-Scooter/dp/B07MZMC6XV

There’s also a bag in the front, Ninebot branded as well: https://www.amazon.com/Segway-Ninebot-Waterproof-Electric-Scooters/dp/B07VCYR9XS (although this looks the same and is cheaper: https://www.amazon.com/Seway-Scooter-Storage-Electric-Compatible/dp/B07HS2W9JT)

Here’s how it looks: https://imgur.com/a/p83gjMO

Inside, I carry (among other things) a Bluetooth speaker so I can listen to music while I ride, as headphones don’t fit well into my helmet. Just leave it a bit unzipped so the sound can get out, and you’re set.

As for the helmet (not an accessory but it’s “on” the scooter here), it’s a TLD Stage: https://www.rei.com/product/144603/troy-lee-designs-stage-mips-bike-helmet

There’s also a really cleverly-designed bell that uses up very little space: https://www.rei.com/product/153660/knog-oi-luxe-bike-bell (or a budget version here: https://www.rei.com/product/116796/knog-oi-bike-bell)

Here’s how it looks: https://imgur.com/a/dQ0lOit

You just have to make sure it’s rotated high enough so that it doesn’t interfere with your throttle lever.

And finally, a light (because my scooter suffers from the electrical issue where turning on the built-in headlight triggers the brake):
https://www.rei.com/product/132832/nite-ize-radiant-125-bike-light

I’ve got it mounted vertically instead of sideways like in the promo pictures, and it looks a lot better that way.

u/GrowInTheDark · 1 pointr/ElectricScooters

Is that reinforced folding latch better than the OEM folding pole?

I bought a supposed OEM folding pole using this listing on Amazon

I paid an extra $12 in shipping ($86 total) to get it in two days. Its suppose to be delivered today but I just checked tracking and it shows it JUST shipped out today from Hong Kong which is BS imo.

so I'm thinking about canceling the order and returning it and maybe getting this reinforce folding latch since it's the same price if it is definitely an upgrade over the OEM folding pole. I don't mind waiting a month or so for it if it's definitely an upgrade over the OEM one

u/cipher982 · 1 pointr/ElectricScooters

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SQYYHN2

I use this on a couple of mine. Pull the straps tight enough and you can fit 5-10lbs without too much worry. I just keep basics like cables, tools, and then use it to maybe put a sandwich or something in if I run to grab some lunch.

I like that it is relatively stiff compared to the cloth carriers (not completely hard like plastic), so it stays completely still up to 50mph without flapping around even when empty.

u/Airbus320Driver · 1 pointr/boostedboards

Amazon has them. Search for "Board Blazers". The white ones are the brightest.

Board Blazers, The Original LED Underglow Skateboard, Longboard, Self Balancing Scooter & Kick Scooter Lights https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008AJYS2Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_QS4Exb5A9BYFR

u/city312 · 2 pointsr/ElectricSkateboarding

I use this one daily:

SEGWAY ES1| eScooter- High Performance, 8-Inch Front and 7.5-Inch Back tires, up to 15.5 of Range and 12.4 of mph of Top Speed, Cruise Control, Easy to Clean Foot Pads https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074WZGL8P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_jfORAb0CZNRR5

u/PieceOfShoe · 2 pointsr/ElectricScooters

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TQFC9N6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then flash your scooter as a m365 pro. It wont be one but it will be faster and have three speed modes and speedometer will work. I can a bit over 18MPH on the flats now in mode 3. The acceleration is way better too.

I bought one for my E-DIY MTB on Amazon 6 moths before I bought the M365 scooter, it was a bit expensive but good quality and has been used as 36V 15Ah DIY battery front holder( in combi with 15Ah water bottle battery), so it can take some weight without breaking.

Cutting to the chase. Just go buy this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074WZGL8P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_jfORAb0CZNRR5 It's a good scooter at a great price. Not a speed demon, but unlike eSk8, the makers have to speed limit them to be able to sell in most markets due to local laws.
