Interesting thank you!! That just may do it :D I wish they said what the grommets were made of (am thinking that if they're a weak tin that they'd break easier), though if I order that and have 100 grommets I could literally put like 20 on the thing and use paracord (I've got some on-hand that'd be perfect for this) through them all to make a 'net' at the top that terminates at a hook so I can hang it from a chain (as it'll be an outside punching bag, am hanging it from a tree-limb :) )
SB Dunks are mad comfortable and usually already have extra padded tongues.
If you chose to use the AJ1 upper i would personally put the SB tongue behind the AJ1's. Extra padding pushing against your foot feels very nice. That's what i get from my custom.
The eyelets are very easy to replicate. Just buy them from ebay with the piercing tool. You will then just have to paint them accordingly because they usually come in silver.
As for the inner lace holding the laces i would just use a random soft and small piece of lace and give it a knot from the inside. After lacing them together it would hold just as well. If you prefer to see the inner laces holding by themselves from the eyelets without the support of the outer laces, just super glue the inner knot to the inside of the eyelet and you are set.
This shouldn't be too hard. Just plan everything ahead and take your time. There's always dumb things we forget about even in simple tasks like these lol.
Back in the day when I used to stud everything(jackets/pants/shirts/bags), I had a hand press stud machine that did things like that. Mine looked like this and I got it at a garage sale when I was a kid.
ok, 2 other options -
Something like this, but obviously find one the right size for the hole you're going to drill.

And/or:

I've used both methods before with good results for almost the same application as what you're doing.
Thanks again for the suggestion! I finally got a chance to work on this and got one leg done. I removed the zipper all together then put the eyelets on. I ended up going with Paracord instead of leather cord because it was stronger and a little more economical. Below is the kit I got for the eyelets and some pictures of the one leg done.

If anyone is looking for a more permanent alternative to tearing holes in your fabric pots, installing eyelets is very easy and makes a more secure hole that won't tear or fall apart.

I feel like enough of those, along with some good paracord and a properly anchored hook, would do the job.
I don't know if you're in the US? if you are, a brand called dritz makes these, and they usually come in a kit with the placement tools. Each size has its own little placement tools. They're kind of fun to put in because you get to use a hammer :)
Eta: you can see each part in this Amazon listing

So a smaller version for smaller gromets?
When you squeeze the handle only the little bump touches the other side. Like it would make a dent in a piece of paper
Amazon has them

Based on the thread I ended up using (strong upholstery thread), even smaller eyelets would have worked.
You could also use something like THIS but you would be stuck with the same size/shape tag for every batch and would have to make sure to line it up correctly when punching out an already-printed sheet of tags.

I used things like these, my oven, and a YouTube tutorial. Kydex, when heated is very pliable, and cools solid. If you mess up, you can heat and remold again. You only need .06 thickness, any thicker is left to gun holsters. I then use an old belt to help mold a g-clip from a Kydex strip, and thats really it. I haven't bought a sheath in many years. Any further questions, just reply, I'll check back in the morning.
Looks like some of THIS cut to length + some of THIS = What the guy in your picture is wearing.

You're looking for grommets fam

My plan is a gommet tool then zip ties
I don't think you're going to find one with a hook. However, you can get some grommet pliers (get the right size!) to go with grommets with hooks that, maybe, you can find somewhere (2 minutes of looking and I haven't found any, and now I surrender the search to you).....
Cut a small hole. Stick the eyelet over the hole. Use the eyelet tool to crimp it into place. Real simple. You just need to buy the kit this one cuts the hole, places and fixes the eyelet all in one squeeze of the handle.
