Need your advice!

I dress modestly for religious reasons. I don't wear pants, and wear only full sleeves. No slits in anything, and nothing see-though. My wardrobe consists of basically just maxi skirts + long sleeved tops, or maxi skirts with a cardigan. I do try to make my look a little nicer by wearing jewelry (and I also just enjoy wearing jewelry), but this makes it look even fancier. Because of this, I often look overdressed, especially in casual settings where everyone else is wearing jeans/shorts and a t-shirt (like class, where everyone is dressed casually and I look like I've come from work, even if I haven't). Usually I solve this to some extent by wearing a denim jacket or chambray top with my dress/skirt. I also have one chambray skirt which I like, but it's only one skirt, so I can't wear it every day (like every day that I have class, for example).

I recently started thinking of getting a denim skirt to help solve this issue, especially since I can't wear a denim jacket in the winter, whereas I can wear a denim skirt over my thermal leggings. BUT, I know that they often look frumpy and old-fashioned. I don't like the look of the typical denim skirt, like this one. They look stiff and not as feminine (I prefer more "girly" looks), especially with the seam running down the middle.

I recently came across this skirt, which looks more my style (and no seam down the front, just one in the back, plus it's an A-line shape). I'm thinking of buying it but am worried that it still won't look very nice. *I know* that it's my choice what I wear and as long as I'm happy with it it should be fine, but this is a fashion subreddit, so I just want everyone's honest opinions. Would this skirt look modest yet fashionable (while being casual) or does it look just as frumpy and old-fashioned as most other denim skirts do? Basically, yea or nay?

(Btw my body type is similar to the person modeling the skirt)

usually if the top is dark enough with the skirt being bolder scalloped blouses don't accentuate the feature. This dress in particular would, but here is a good outfit example

With the right jewelry like a loose bangle and cute chucks, maybe a loose fitting Tie Choker or something that would help reduce the appearance of the size of the shoulder because having a brighter item on the bottom will draw more attention away from your shoulders.

Edit:

And if you don't like the skirt (that one is an example of course, there are a lot cuter ones out there) white jeans or shorts would look really sharp too.

Edit 2 : Apparently I can't spell today. Hopefully I don't keep nitpicking this haha. I love putting together outfits. If anyone has suggestions for me as well feel free to message me with ideas!

Congratulations! What all does your new job entail?

You would love your own Bonsai starter kit. Something about your own little tree is pretty relaxing, especially knowing you grew it. As far as me? I'm great, but I know my wife would like this sunflower skirt. I hope that's ok, thanks for the contest!

I'm going to a wedding as a guest in 2 weeks but I can't find a top to go with this skirt. I've been thinking about something like this blouse but maybe from a better seller, however I'm not sure if drowning myself in black (including heels) would be good. Haven't really played with fashion and I'm a bit wary of bright colored tops due to my extremely pale skin. My sizes are XS/S and I'm currently 21, so nothing too "mature" looking would be nice.

Guuurl maxi skirts and tank tops for the win!! you don't have to shave your legs, you get a nice breeze and you can get like 2 maxis in different colors and a bunch of tops and boom you have a summer wardrobe that is PP body friendly :)

u/digitalyss · 7 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Giiiirl I feel you. I'm a 2x-4x depending on the brand, and I literally spent like 3 hours looking at clothes in my size in every single subcategory on Amazon today. Granted I was looking for stuff under $25 (I'm cheap), but I found fuckall as far as funny nerdy gamery retro awesome things. I should probably expand my search.

I love your Ash cosplay by the way. Like, a lot. So, here's a men's shirt (because there are zero Boomstick related feminine-cut clothing on Amazon)

Personally, I love the back open the way it is. I think it looks elegant and very classic! You could have cups sewn into the front bust to eliminate the need for a bra if that is the concern. For the bottom of the dress, would you consider a chiffon skirt? Your dress would look gorgeous with a flowey long skirt, and you wouldn't have a pay a bunch for alterations!

This one from amazon would look great, is inexpensive, and has good reviews!

I don't like showing my skin either so summer is a struggle. I have found cute ways to cover up without looking like a lunatic. This and this piece is an example of an outfit I'm talking about. The skirt is lightweight and breezy, but reaches to your feet and can be pulled up to your natural waist to hide a belly if you need to. The bodysuit has 3/4 length sleeves that covers most of your arm, but still doesn't look like long sleeves. The outfit looks normal for summer and isn't hot. You can get some inspiration from Muslim or "modest dress" blogs because they don't show skin but still look very cute! 💗

Not my content. Original post here.

I'll comment with some links to cool spacey stuff after work. It's most of my wardrobe, as some of you might have noticed. Post your own links/photo inspo and they'll probably end up on my wishlist!

EDIT: honey, I'm home ;)

I know a lot of you have asked about where I get my space stuff! I'm going to link to the ones I got online (almost all of them I think lol) so you can rock them too!! I was going to do an album of my fits with a link to what I was wearing but I'm tired so here are just the shop links instead :P My fits are all in my older image gallery in this sub though so check my history for examples!

Galaxy maxi skirts - I have 2 of these and still plan to get more
Galaxy leggings (everyone knows Black Milk but they really are the best quality Lycra prints I own, I have the black and blue ones)
Bubble space backpack (Mad Pax)
CowCow moon and sun print dress

Also I tend to seek out space print stuff wherever. I've found awesome things at Forever 21- NASA shirts, star print tights, and constellation earrings and necklaces (which were super cute but flimsy and broke in days) and even Target (space print socks, tights, scarves...)

  1. I have so many things on my wishlist! If I had to choose it would either be this awesome Disney wall art to hang up, this chalkboard, or this cute skirt to twirl around in

  2. I have gifted!

  3. /u/puppies_and_unicorns should be gifted cause when I was feeling down they gifted me the cutest stuffed animal to make me feel better!

  4. I like seeing your cat snaps, as they are adorable. Do you like Disney movies? If you do, what's your absolute favorite?

  5. You're a babe!

I definitely agree with the anarkali or lehenga. If you do decide to purchase online, just be aware that the color and pattern might vary slightly from the depicted image. The sites I've used include cbazaar , utsav , and lashkaraa . They tend to have sales pretty often, but because they're more affordable, the quality won't be top notch. If this is outside your price range, I've also "DIYd" a lehenga by purchasing a high waisted maxi skirt, a simple crop top and a net dupatta. The best part of this is that you can wear everything again. Throw on some indian jewelry and you're good to go. I've often ordered jewelry from bindhani on amazon and it's been good quality.

You should gift /u/mamallama because she is quite possibly one of the most genuinely fantastic, kind, caring, and bad ass people on the planet. Oh yeah, get her this because she would look awesome in it.

Gift all the people.

Thanks for the contest!

u/megarusty · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Maybe this is a bad combination, I'm not great with fashion so I don't really know, but maybe try this blazer with this blouse and this skirt.

I'd choose this as my good luck charm, even though it's not very lucky in the show!!

Good luck with the interview!

It all depends on taste, but I've found knee socks, a skater skirt, and a sexy top to go over well. I love this skirt and have a couple of them. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01MR41AW1?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Hope this helps :)

u/sharilynj · 1 pointr/femalefashionadvice

You need color! I just bought this skirt, which actually hits me right at the knee, and it looks like a million bucks with a black t-shirt: http://www.amazon.com/Anne-Klein-Womens-Printed-Pleated/dp/B00BIY376Q/ref=pd_sim_sbs_a_2 (you can probably find it cheaper elsewhere)

Pleated or loose-fitting skirts are good for sitting in, won't ride up so they'll still be knee-length. I've always had good luck at the Gap, so give them a shot. Thankfully, skirts are the easiest thing to shop for online. =)

u/ImA90sChick · 2 pointsr/femalefashionadvice

There skirts are often paired with over the knee socks/leggings!

Specifically, I'd recommend this skirt. I have some stuff that I've ordered from the same company and they are pretty much true to the sizing chart they provide. It looks like, for a particular style of skirt - the 829 - they have stuff that would fit her.

Alternatively, you may want to look more to Asian companies? They tend to run sizes smaller compared to U.S. sizing so they should definitely have something that would fit her.

u/Janiichan · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I like the rocker chick look, so I would totally rock this pencil skirt, bonus point for metal bow, with a loose blouse and some comfy wedges.
Accessory wise, keep it simple. No necklace because boobs, but definitely some cat earrings!.
Edit: the cat earrings are totally good luck because, cats :P

Steampunk is such a weird look in that it's really complicated! I feel like it's harder to 'tone down' than a lot of other styles.

And, Amazon. I picked up this one in black a while back. The whole look is amazing, but the best part is that the little top piece is removable, so I can wear just that over a tank top or a normal long sleeve shirt. It adds a little steampunk-y-ness to a normal outfit. I think this skirt might be a good piece too!
