/u/DavisEcho is referring to a Tupperdor. Below is my standard recommendation, however it might be a little big for you. However this can give you an idea of what to look for.
The smaller Sistema, like the 1830 holds in the 30-35 cigar range and might be a better fit.
Sistema 1870: $20
Boveda Packs: $17
Digital Hygrometer: HygroSet II - $14 or Caliber IV - $24
Spanish Cedar Trays: $13
Not a stupid question at all. They make all sorts but here is an example small instrument case humidifier
Gibson’s are really nice so I’m assuming this instrument is probably worth something so definitely get something for it especially in the winter. Summer and spring it doesn’t matter much unless you live in a really dry area. Good luck with everything!
I have one similar to this http://www.amazon.com/Kolstein-Secretary-Black-Cello-Bib/dp/B00438PNWA it looks a little different though- the design is on the right hand side of the pocket. I bought it like 5 years ago so it probably changed. I used it to play at summer festivals when it was hot and my sweat was getting on the corner of my cello ahhaha. It worked really well for that.
Edit: it was this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Kolstein-Cello-Bib-Brown-/271732069504?hash=item3f447e5480:g:GRYAAOSwg3FUqy~p
Thanks! So something like this ?
Thanks I think I'll get some Boveda packs but what "gram" pack would I use if I am using 1 quart jars?
like https://www.amazon.com/Boveda-Humidity-Humidors-Humidifier-Dehumidifier/dp/B00TU03HU6?th=1
says "67 gram pouch" - what size pouch would I need per 1 quart jar?
I've used a Dampit with success. Your results may vary... You may also consider putting a small hygrometer in your case if you don't already to try to find your violin's happy place.

(Sorry for ugly link, on mobile)
You're best bet is this: https://www.amazon.in/Boveda-Large-Humidipak-62-Pack/dp/B00TU03HU6
Better than silica cus it won't dry it out. The 62% is ideal but if you can't get that get a close enough %. 2 way humidity maintenance is key.
Yes I third a humidifier. I live in a state with very humid summers and very very cold (-14) winters full of snow. I use a dampit humidifier

(The little hose in the F hole that veryloudnoises was talking about ;) )
I hear these Boveda humidity packs are pretty good . Haven't used them yet myself, but I'm thinking about trying them.

Tell him you no longer need him in the band, then get some of this: http://www.amazon.com/Players-Products-MPK10-Microphome-Care/dp/B002R6O22W
I've used one of these for awhile with no issues.
https://www.amazon.com/The-Original-Dampit-Violin-Humidifier/dp/B000HA65W0/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=dampit&qid=1569043826&s=gateway&sr=8-3
I had this problem- Tried peg paste?
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hidersine-30H-Hindersine-Hiderpaste-Violins/dp/B000WB2K28/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495488293&sr=8-1&keywords=hidersine+peg+paste
Also, I know it's simple but make sure you've wound the string the correct way on the peg. When I went back to it I'd forgotten how to change them it'd been so long and wound them on wrong.
