I'm getting married this fall in an outdoor setting.

I'm not very interested in wearing a suit as it's not something I've ever wanted to wear.

Here's what I am considering, but would like some advice if it all "works" together. If you have any other suggestions please let me know. Total budget for all of it should be less than $500. Would prefer to spend more like $200 but I'm realizing that's not likely.

I'm guessing that the vest will come off at some point thus I was thinking a non-white shirt might be nice.

Note that tie is narrow (2.25") and I am not (36" waist, 46" chest), but I much prefer the asthetics of the narrow.

Right now, I'd grab one of these 100% wool suits that were just marked down, and use the email 20% off as well to get them around $150.

You might also want to look at a J. Crew Thomson suit. It's only cotton, but if you're planning on doing some dancing it will keep you cooler. The dark charcoal is on sale for $175 for the top and bottom, plus shipping. If you wanna be super classy you can grab a matching vest and will probably be the only guy at the prom in a 3-piece suit.

I have my nephew's wedding in December. Due to a variety of med issues have been out of work (but back). I do have a suit I used for intrviews but it is at least 7 years old and I was a good 50 lbs heavier then.

Question, I have kackis. Would it be acceptable for me to just get a blazer and were kackis, blazer and tie? Thanks.

I have [this]( https://www.amazon.com/Casual-Button-Blazer-302-Navy/dp/B00Z6XFUU6?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_2 ) blazer in mind, what do you all think?

I bought this FLATSEVEN linen blazer recently, and I love it. But the only pants I have that look good with it are nice jeans. What else works well? The color is a bit lighter grey than the pictures show, much closer to a brushed steel kind of color, if that makes any sense.

FYI, you can get a cheap suit that does the job.

I needed a cheap black suit for some reason (I forgot), and I took a chance on this cheap suit (I got it through groupon as almost a lark). https://www.amazon.com/Braveman-Classic-Single-Breasted-Piece/dp/B01GJHN9JQ/ref=pd_sbs_193_1/133-5983387-1689602?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01GJHN9JQ&pd_rd_r=cc446f63-5f32-4a5e-a119-9827e30f32bd&pd_rd_w=Fm7NT&pd_rd_wg=wLkrI&pf_rd_p=763ccc93-bfa2-47be-85ae-0cdd7e00b3da&pf_rd_r=7CEXHRE5W2Z2X5SHZN5C&refRID=7CEXHRE5W2Z2X5SHZN5C

Looked fine. Don't wear it to a Investment Banking interview, but it's perfectly fine for a student hiring event.

u/iwasapenguin · 2 pointsr/malefashionadvice

If cold weather calls for it, I would start with something basic, such as a grey herringbone topcoat/overcoat, maybe with a scarf?

Here's the first thing I found on Google: http://www.amazon.com/Tommy-Hilfiger-Bleeker-Herringbone-Topcoat/dp/B00MHP7XBK

Cheers and best of luck.

Found this vendor on Amazon yesterday. Reviews for these suits seem pretty positive, given how cheap the suits are. Thinking about buying a Tan suit, just to see what the quality is like. Thoughts?

Thanks, this is helpful. I'm just not sure about the gray.

How about khakis/light blue shirt with a teal/jade tie like [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Fan-tastik-Eco-friendly-Handmade-Cashmere-Solid/dp/B00ZFERMS4?ie=UTF8&keywords=dark%20teal%20tie&qid=1465313884&ref_=nav_signin&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1) and for the officiant a dark blue vest like this.

Would make sure the ties match the color of the dresses and the vest matches the color of the jacket well enough in person.

Very fine wool suiting, possibly even camel hair. Yes it really comes from camels, just like sheep wool but SOFTER. The folded arm view lets you see how much beautiful drape it has. https://www.amazon.com/LN-LUCIANO-NATAZZI-Luxurious-Blazer/dp/B00AP6S880?th=1

I worked in a men’s suit store at one point and often ran into this. I always really liked dark pants with the dark grey jacket. The graphite sport coat or suit jacket looks really good over a dark pair of jeans. Damn near any button up shirt can go with it to make it casual or formal. The real trick is finding one you feel comfortable in and feel confident that you’d wear it again. Some tailoring may be required no matter what you end up with.
Here’s an idea I have...

amazon

u/leftybanks · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a custom job but regardless, it looks like a play on a naval captain's uniform with its epaulets and gold buttons. Something like this.

u/Chaoss780 · 1 pointr/malefashionadvice

New Blazer got good reviews on Amazon, it's a pretty fair price. No idea about the brand however, would like another opinion.

u/klew3 · 4 pointsr/frugalmalefashion

Those with fully synthetic materials will probably have poor breathability, movement, drape, etc. If you only need a suit for the occasional funeral sure but if you want a suit to last you with even semi-frequent wear you're better off getting something from jcf. You're definitely getting what you pay for here and check camelcamelcamel or another price tracker to get an actual idea of the value of the suit but it's likely to not have any price history so hard to say.

The few full wool ones like this might be a decent buy.

Expect a $50 minimum add on for tailoring.

I actually am helping my friend do a Boxer cosplay. I found a good base jacket on Amazon here. Obviously you will have to modify it for the triangle on the back, but it's a good start.

You can see in the ending scroll of images that he appears wearing a white dress shirt (he appears with and without a dark tie, but most often without), black dress pants, and his hands/arms wrapped in boxing bandages. His feet aren't ever shown clearly but you can't go wrong with black dress shoes.

The terms are pretty confusing for anyone. Think of most men's jackets as being in three categories:

  • suit jackets [example]: The most formal of the three. Always in a matched pair with pants. Structured. Has shoulder padding. Is usually too stiffly formal to really work well on its own.
  • blazers [example]: A standalone garment. Less dressy than a suit. Has a naval history, and so is often in navy blues, and often has brass buttons. Often the top portion of a uniform.
  • sport jackets/sportcoat [example]: The least formal. Often unstructured, and with no padding. Often tweedy or patterned; contrast with the common navy blue of the blazer above. Derived from hunting jackets of the past. Looks great paired with almost anything: dress shirts, tee shirts, dress pants, jeans, chinos.

When you say "casual" blazer, I immediately think of a sportcoat, but that's just me. You'll notice that many people use these terms pretty interchangeably. It's a wild world.

Any luck with Amazon? Saw this CK 100% wool for cheap. Free returns worth a shot https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00SZXEQ2W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tzJYCb8SGXTMH

I bought this one for my son’s costume (with a separate shirt and gold vest): MAGE MALE Men's 3 Pieces Suit Elegant Solid One Button Slim Fit Single Breasted Party Blazer Vest Pants Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073TWMFV5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_N4yPDbRMZBN75

Hah! Thank you for that advice, I will definitely look into trying it. I might hit you up on that offer if I hit a wall. Do you think this is a good vest?

u/drowgirl · 2 pointsr/DIY

Joker costume? I'm assuming.

You may be better off just purchasing a new suit. Last year, a friend and I went to a comic book wedding as Joker and Harley-- he bought this and this, it was surprisingly well-made and fit him very well.

Polyester hates most dyes, but if you want to try it with what you have, RIT has some that I've used before. Granted, there's no guarantee that the dye will take completely nor that it will take consistently.

u/Not_A_Yam · 3 pointsr/cosplayers

So I've found this tutorial for the mask, and this or this for the vest, though the second one is not really accurate.
