(Part 2) Reddit mentions: The best waffle irons

There are a LOT of recipes and suggestions online. The trick for me was to play with them and kind of take and leave the suggestions for my own personal preference. I’ve only been making chaffles for a month-ish now, but here are my suggestions:

1.) there are a TON of recipes online, both here on reddit and with a basic Google search. I personally found the simplest to start with and then adjusted to my preferences. Don’t get overwhelmed, but really consider trying one - and don’t give up if they don’t meet the hype the first time you try them!! They didn’t for me, but since I’ve started playing with different additions I have found these to be an amazing sub for breads and buns.

2.) consider getting the Dash mini waffle maker - (http://Dash mini Waffle maker Winter Sky https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z8T3NKK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_l4kUDb2TFXWVA) (sorry about formatting, not able to fix it on mobile for some reason). It really made a difference in my chaffle shape, and I find one of these is great for using as half of a sandwich bun - we’ve used two for burgers, and they work really nicely as a bun substitute. I have a regular size waffle maker, and the chaffles don’t fit together as nicely unless you keep them in one half of the pan, and even then you’re probably using more batter than you actually need with a half-moon shape that isn’t as good for sandwich type chaffles as with the mini maker. If you can’t find the mini one on Amazon (they seem to be in short supply), I saw some at my local Kohl’s for ~$10. It’s a steal and I have used it far more than the regular sized. If I had to guess I’d say it’s about 3-4” diameter, and it is really perfect.

3.) as above, I have adjusted my recipe to my tastes. I don’t like my chaffles to have an egg-y flavor - I’ve figured this out by using EggBeaters instead, and adding some almond flour and flaxseed. It doesn’t take much to make what I feel is a dramatic difference in taste, and the net carbs in my personal recipe, which I’ve tweaked for taste over time, is less than 2g carbs per chaffle.

Chaffles are a staple in our keto house - they’re perfect and worth the effort of trying. You can do a ton - sweet, savory, endless possibilities.

I've never seen one for sale that makes them just like the ones sold at WDW but I bought this one recently and love it. It's not perfect but it makes great waffles and my daughter loves it just the same plus you can put them on sticks which she LOVES!

As far as irons go, the best waffles come from professional waffle irons but that's pricey.

On the reasonable side of things, a good waffle iron will have cast iron (or cast aluminum?) plates, can be flipped (to heat both sides evenly) and delivers around 1400W. Ideally you want to be able to switch the plates for several waffle sizes. I've got this one with the three plates in the first row.

Get yourself two Dash minis and get on the chaffle bandwagon. Quick and easy meals....Breakfast, Chaffle egg sandwich, lunch.....chaffles and anything you want...BLT, tuna, roast beef...unlimited possibilities and they absolutely travel well, so pack your lunch with Yummies.

Dinner, just keep it simple, a protein and a veggie.

Having the right tools for the job is always important.

My absolute must haves items to make cooking bearable.

• Dash Mini , get two.
  
• Ninja , combo, pressure cooker, slow cooker and air fryer! I use the air fryer the most....so great!
  
• Veggie Noodles!
  
• Great sauces make great dishes, I buy these at my local supermarkets.

  Make it fun, experiment.....dont dwell on what you cant have, be happy for what you CAN have!

Chaffle Recipe:

• 1 egg
  
• 1/2 cup shredded cheese Mexican blend
  
• Splash HWC
  *Everything but the bagel seasoning
  
  Inside:
  
  
• 1 fried egg
  
• half slice cheddar cheese
  
• 2 breakfast sausages
  
  
  Put cheese down on the waffle maker first, then the egg/hwc mixture, then top with cheese. This creates a delicious crust from the cheese that you don’t get from mixing the cheese into the batter.
  
  3g net carbs for whole sandwich, and it is so delicious. Even my non-Keto family loves them.

I got this guy which has the bonus of changeable plates - panini, standard waffle, waffle cone, etc. Pretty nifty. :)

The recipes I have seen say you can use the kind I have (I bought for waffle cones) and you split the stroopwaffles then glue back with the caramel.

I have a cool one that does 2 Belgium waffles, it’s so yummmy and nice to sit down with DH instead of waiting!

Now I’m off to google Swedish waffle because I’ve never hear of that!

I did drop it on the floor almost immediately after purchasing it and a small piece of the handle part snapped off, but hasn't affected it's ability to cook waffles. I use a pre-mixed waffle batter from the grocery store that only requires water and oil and it's delicious. There are some that require eggs and milk but I don't usually eat eggs or drink milk so I wouldn't go through a whole jug of milk or container of eggs before having to throw them out.

My advice to use is be sure the walls are painted with a washable paint and have lots of paper towels, why you ask well according to my mom I went through a phase of taking my pooey diapers off and decorating the walls with them :) Apparently my mom did not appreciate my artistic flair lol

I was browsing amazon and saw something that caught my eye. It makes bowls.
I bought the mini long ago at TJMaxx. And used it a lot for normal carby waffles. It was $7.99. I kept it in the box so I can keep on a shelf without cord dangling etc. I’m new tho to chaffle making. I think also I’ve seen other shapes or seasonal designs also.
