First time posting here in Baby Bumps, but I’ve been a long time commenter/fan of this sub. Currently 38+6 and a FTM. I LOVE seeing everyone’s nurseries and am so excited to share ours! Had so much fun putting the nursery together.

Here are some of the things we got that I love in our nursery:

  1. Birch tree removable wallpaper: NuWallpaper NU1650 Birch Tree Peel and Stick Wallpaper https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q00PA40/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_IgYADbV0S2SB6

  3. Green geometric rug: Well Woven Isometry Blue & Grey Modern Geometric Triangle Pattern 7'10" x 9'10" Area Rug Soft Shed Free Easy to Clean Stain Resistant https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZPL8Q1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0hYADb4YGYXBN

  4. Birch tree stump laundry bag: Jacone Stylish Tree Stump Shape Design Storage Basket Cotton Fabric Washable Cylindric Laundry Hamper with Rope Handles, Decorative and Convenient for Kids Bedroom https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6DVUMJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wiYADb71SJQHE

  5. Woodland Animals Crib bedding set - Sweet Jojo Designs https://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/sweet-jojo-designs-woodland-toile-crib-bedding-collection/238019?keyword=sweet-jojo-woodlands-crib

I know we will probably have to adjust things in the nursery once the baby comes and he gets older (I’ve seen plenty of moms comment on here how they laugh at some of the nurseries because they’ll eventually get wrecked or puked on or whatever) but for right now, I absolutely love it. I wanted to have a lush, forest feel...with dragons!

Good luck to all the moms out there. I’m so excited to become a mom myself. :)

First off my son never had a 4 month sleep regression. He slept as you describe until 7 months when nursing to sleep took longer and longer and I trained him to put himself to sleep after his book.

To address your points:

  1. Not really a problem is he's not sucking to sleep. Soon you will want to be brushing his teeth after the bottle though so keep that in mind. Ideally you should be able to just plop him in the crib after his book, but personally I went from nursing to sleep to plopping in one night of 40 minute CIO, so I don't think it's a huge deal.

  2. Moms on call sleep training advocates extinction CIO at 12 weeks, at the same time you drop the swaddle. I'm in the Facebook group and lots of people are successful and happy with this. I'd read the whole method though.

  3. yes I think this is how people do it, but no experience personally.

  4. No, drop the swaddle at the same time. Baby needs to be able to scooch around to find his comfy spot and suck on his hsnds to self soothe.

  5. yep, bye bye paci

  6. I used MOC and Weisssbluth for my kids sleep and both are adamant about the importance of an early bedtime. 8 on is actually a late bedtime past the newborn stage. Weisssbluth recommends enjoying morning time if you get home late, but denying a baby the 11 hour night they need is harmful. He goes into this topic specifically and basically says it's better to see your kid only 2 bedtimes a week than keep them up late so you can see them after work.

As for sharing a room These slumber pods are super popular in the MOC group, throw a sound machine in there and you should be good to enjoy your apartment without disturbing your baby.

Best:

  • Rock N Play - we have this on the main floor of our house and its where my son takes his naps during the day (when he's not sleeping on me)

  • Pack N Play (with bassinet and changing table) - we have this Chicco Pack N Play set up in our master bedroom, where my son sleeps at night. The organizing caddies that attach to the side are super handy for storing diapers, swaddles, and a change of clothes for the middle of the night.

  • Diaper Pail - We have two of the Diaper Dekor Classics, one upstairs and one downstairs. Our house is pretty small, so I love the small footprint of these bins.

  • Boppy - Now that my son is a little over 3 weeks old and can quickly and easily latch in a number of different holds this is less important, but it was super helpful for the first few weeks.

  • Burp cloths - we keep one in every room of the house! I love the Burt's Bees burp cloths. I'd recommend having at least 10-15.

  • Muslin swaddle blankets - I'm obsessed with the Little Unicorn swaddles because they're big, breathable and have such cool designs (but also very expensive at $16/each). I'd recommend having at least 3-4 blankets.

  • Hooded bath towels and small washcloths - Perfect for keeping baby warm and dry after a bath.

    Worst:

  • Ergo Natural Curve Nursing Pillow - This pillow is way too stiff/hard. I hate it and never use it.

  • Socks - My son has worn socks exactly 2 times in the last 3 weeks. Since he's almost always covered in a blanket, they're super unnecessary for newborns.

I'm in favor of this.

Reports about the Valve VR demo rooms indicate that standing VR is pretty darn cool.

We've heard that the Valve VR demo setup was a "money is no object" endeavor and that to experience all of their demos take roughly a half an hour and yet in their environment there isn't a single demo where they make you sit or use an omni directional treadmill.

PrioVR, Zombies on the Holodeck, and Sh0v's latest project show that standing VR can be very cool. For those people who don't have the money to build or repurpose a room of their home for VR (e.g. likely most people)...

So, that said, what I'd like to see is the...

The Adult Sized Playpen for Standing VR.

Pick a reasonable size that will fit in most people's homes, say 2mx2m (give or take). Actual size might be restricted by length of Rift wires/cords (unless extensions are viable).

Make the sides of the playpen be high enough that most people could bump into it and not easily fall over it (about 1.25m?).

Make it mount to the wall so if you bump into one of the sides of the pen the whole thing doesn't slide across the floor or fall over.

To keep it light and hopefully lower costs make the sides be mostly empty space. Perhaps use a rail fence design using plastic (thick enough to allow an average person to back into it while attempting to repel the zombie horde). Or something like this scaled up and made more sturdy for adult usage.

One corner could have a gate-like latch to allow people in and out of the pen.

Make it collapsable to save space and for easier storage.

Make a less expensive version that utilize a wall or two of your home as the third/fourth walls?

Benefits:

  • Better VR experience (like Valve VR room).
  • Allows for safe standing VR.
  • In short: a clean, unobstructed, bounded area for safely experiencing VR.

    Problems:

  • Wires/Entanglement (no slip rings exist for video or USB afaik)
  • People will likely balk at making holes in their walls to secure the pen.
  • Initially no software to take advantage of "constrained area VR"
  • Software may need to accommodate different sized pens unless a standard size can be agreed upon.
  • Far too small for redirected walking.

    Concerns:

  • Not enough game narratives fit the available play space?

Asking mainly for Kaleope and Kevin. Not sure if I can be gifted for Joely so asking for a second opinion. There was someone trying to buy them more, but it didn't go through for some reason. Technical error I guess. So Joely does not have the thomas container (it was marked purchased) and an item it said Kaleope had, a puzzle, she did also not receive. I deleted received items because I thought I was supposed to, but you can check the comments posted and I can send any order #s I have so you can check those if necessary. Just making it clear so you know I didnt lie. I didn't see anything in the rules about not deleting purchased items and I didnt know at first that they came off the list or showed on their own that they were bought. I am mainly worried about Kaleope since she is the oldest and more aware. I would also like to get something for Kevin if possible. Joely has only a couple small wishlist items but he also did get gifted that communication device so Im not sure if I should be gifted any regular toys or anything for him or not. Is the original price important? It was gifted used, but it is very expensive to purchase. If not he only has 3 items even with the device. I dont want anything for myself or Sylar obviously because we have too much as is. I didnt even expect to win the other things. I entered for fun and won. Thank you for this. xo Happy Holidays.

I made this. The dimensions aren’t perfect but might help see a different way. https://imgur.com/a/XHTquaV so just some thoughts. Move things up walls for space. The glass enclosed dresser doesn’t look easily used. Move the desk over into the corner and move the tall dresser were the glass front one is. The chest and case on it are rough and not very functional. I’d get them out at least while figuring everything out. If you can add shelves or cubes above your side table that would add space. They would need to be screwed in. If you can’t then skip that. Hanging laundry baskets or use a shelf with a couple storage bins to toss laundry in. Depending on measurements possibly something like this on the glass front furniture. C&AHOME Cube Storage Organizer, 8- Cube DIY Plastic Closet Cabinet, Modular Book Shelf Organizer Units, Storage Shelving Ideal for Bedroom Living Room Office with Doors, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFHW6LK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_fX7RDbR8FS51M shelves with storage cubes, containers or such is another option. Add shelves above the desk. Again bins, tubs, cubes even paper organizers can be used. Dollar stores can give extra options. Don’t consider things exclusive. I needed a closed container to hold chopsticks. I bought a pasta container. Think about how to move things up. Think about how you like things for ease. I like doors but for example some cubes come with or without drawers. Under the bed- I’d consider it storage. It doesn’t look convenient day to day. Under there you want to put this. DampRid FG60FS Moisture Absorber, Fresh Scent, 10.5-Ounce, 2-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CBLW1MQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_L37RDb41XX5VS put reminders in your phone and empty it every few days until you know how much water it absorbs. You replace the crystals every so often. Keep it away from pets. Damp rid will grab tons of moisture but while you’re checking everything out make sure you don’t see signs of a pipe leak. Mold, soft walls, moisture and bad smells pay attention to. Basically storage needs to go up. Bed drawers don’t work in large rooms so use for storage. Put damp rid out. Make sure no leaks. For me the idea is enclosed. Choose what works for you. Don’t forget if the idea of doors on storage cubes don’t work for you that you can use a curtain to cover it if you don’t want others to see. The idea is finding what works for you. If you move things and have a wall space open buy taller items. I’ve been redoing a smaller space so feel free to ask if you need some other suggestions.

Edit another idea is move that wood dresser to the window like in diagram, glass one next to it and cubes where the wood one is now.

Few other things I found while digging in my Amazon orders:

u/crazboy84 · 1 pointr/oculus

Dad of a 20 month old here, newborns sleep 18-20 hours a day. I stayed at home with our baby for the first 3 months of her life because my wife couldnt get off but i was laid off so it worked out and i on average played games 4-6 hours a day during the daytime because all they do at that age is sleep - eat - shit - sleep.

If you havent already get a glider it will keep them entertained for hours while you game, ive linked the one we have below its really great.

http://www.amazon.com/Graco-Glider-Gliding-Swing-Peyton/dp/B00AO083KU/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1457364804&sr=1-1&keywords=baby+swing

Once they start crawling you will want something like the corral below. This is the one i have its great because its completely customizable to fit you're space and when they get bigger you can use it as a gate.

http://www.amazon.com/Giantex-Panel-Center-Safety-Playpen/dp/B00M4SYM2S/ref=sr_1_4_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1457364856&sr=1-4&keywords=baby+corral

The key to gaming as a dad is keeping them safe, happy, and contained and most importantly PUT THE WIFE AND THE BABY FIRST! Bad times will be had if you do not!

Ok - so you're wanting to stick with the pieces you have. You said in another comment you're thrifty (me too!) and not wanting to spend much, so here's what I'd do:

Right now the dark pieces seem very harsh in the room. I'd embrace the theme of the natural wood accents, and tie in your black pieces by adding in some other natural textures! I was bored/procrastinating and did up a (very choppy) photoshop of what I would do with the space. Here you go! I edited out the clutter just for the sake of the design.

I'd love to see some sort of curtain (beaded?) in front of the vanity to make it feel like a more cohesive room. I think something like this would look really cool, although it's a bit pricy. This is more affordable. You could DIY the circles from the UO one if you like them, I'm sure!

I agree with the other poster about mounting the guitars to the wall and storing the stand.

I would make some dowel frames for your map, and hang it above the mirror. I'd also make a few smaller black and white cardstock prints at Staples (cost you about fifty cents or less per page), do the same with the frames, and stack them vertically along the space of the wall beside your closet door.

Are you crafty? You might be able to make a diffuser shade for your 'boob' light like these folks did.

I'd recommend going to Home Depot / Walmart etc and getting a couple more plants, and putting them in terra cotta pots (they're pretty inexpensive).

I would also get a few baskets and put them on the middle shelf of your bookshelf, to break up the lines and make it less overwhelming to look at.

I would get something for your makeup table to contain your makeup so it looks less cluttered.

Heres some pieces similar to what I photoshopped in that you could pick up on on a budget, but a lot of them could be thrifted if you like hunting!

Beaded Curtain

Lamp Shade

Guitar wall mounts

Linen textured curtains

Basket for makeup brushes

Baskets for shelf organization

I can't see what's going on in your bed area, but if you like my suggestions, I'd be happy to make more recommendations if you post a picture!

Maybe a Dock-a-tot? I don't have experience with these personally, but I've heard good things! We'll be transitioning our daughter to a floor bed soon too. Good luck!

Also due in January and have the same "problem". For the clothes, I washed them all and sorted into sizes (NB, 0-3, 3-6, etc). I went through all the clothes and threw the ones I absolutely didn't want (either really ugly, had stupid sayings on them or were stained badly) into a bag. I will eventually donate the clean ones that I just think are ugly, and probably throw away the really stained ones or use them as rags or something. I actually kept a lot because it was in good condition and mostly non-offensive (lots of gender neutral stuff!) I still probably have too much and she won't wear it all, but I figure it's better to have more than not enough.

I have an Ikea Malm dresser and a closet in the nursery. I put onsies and pants in the dresser. Top drawer is NB/0-3 months, next drawer has 3-6 and 6-9 months, and the bottom drawer has 9-12 and 12-18 months. Anything bigger I left in bags and put in the attic for later as I won't need it for a while. The other side of the dresser I put some diapers/wipes/butt cream/other diapering supplies in the top drawer. The bottom drawer is filled with swaddles and blankets. The middle drawer has baby towels/robes/wash cloths.

In the closet I got these dividers and hung things like dresses, overalls, footie pajamas, other larger/fancier items and sorted by size with the dividers. I didn't particularly want baby shoes (babies don't even walk!) but alas, I got a few pairs as gifts. So I put them on the top shelf of the closet.

I have built in shelves right next to the closet, so on those I put rolled up burp cloths, books, and some cute toys that are basically for display purposed right now because I don't think a newborn will play with them.

For swings/rockers right now I have a swing that has a removable bouncer that I plan on keeping down stairs in the living room. I also have a rock n play I am keeping upstairs (in the nursery for now, but might end up in the bedroom or the living room who knows!) The crib and bassinet are upstairs and the pack n play is downstairs. So I have a place to set the baby basically in each room of the house.

If you have extra swings/rockers/pack n plays I would consider keeping them at a family member's house if it's somewhere you think you might visit frequently! Otherwise donate or sell (or return if you have a receipt), but maybe wait until baby is here so you can test them out and see which ones your baby prefers.

Honestly, just buy the real thing. I love ikea and I love idea hacks. But if you want something super solid that won't tip and can handle two large kids (and sometimes 3), the original learning tower can't be beat.

Some of them just take a little longer to figure it out, Mama. With my middle two, the older one wouldn't until the younger one did, and the younger one was terrified because of when the bathroom ceiling collapsed right after she came out of the bathroom when we started training. The thing that made it harder was how much i hated diapers. The thing that made it easier was being able to explain all the things they would be able to do if they used the bathroom, like going to big school, and playing at other people's houses, and getting a little pool for the yard, because when she was 4, she wanted those things, and at some point that wanting outweighed her fear.

I don't know what tools or methods you're using, but if you haven't tried them, this or something like it worked well, as did this which also has variations. I ended up getting the seat with ladder attached again for my youngest, as well.

You'll both be ok, he just has to talk himself into it. Can you get him something small that he's really interested in, and put it where he can see it but not reach it, and tell him that every time he goes on the toilet, he gets to play with it for a little while? Set a timer. We tried so many things. There will be something that works.

Hugs to you and your little guy :) Hang in there

We got this one: Arm's Reach Concepts Ideal Ezee 3-in-1 Bedside Bassinet - Crescent https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E9KFRMW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_HMOGzbSHPSBH2

I LOVE it. I was so worried it wouldn't be worth the money, or she'd put grow it too fast. She would only sleep in her rock and play at first, but even just the last two months have made it totally worth it. I can sleep right next to her and she still has her own safe sleep space. Plus, we can use it as a play pen or a travel crib once she is too big for the top bassinet part. She can also sleep in the bottom, just like a pack and play for when she starts sitting up/standing.

Everything at my local Goodwill is priced the same among like items (shirts are $2.99, pants and jeans $3.49, kids clothes under 4T 1.99 etc) except non clothing items, shoes ,and purses. I've gotten Ann Taylor Loft, Gap ,Chaps , Ralph Lauren, etc. for extreme discounts. I shop for my entire family there, and put us in only name brands for penny on the dollar. Every week they have a tag color that is half off and I have the 10% off discount card that I paid $3 for at the beginning of the year. My best finds lately have been an outfit that originally cost $42 from the Gap for my baby, that i got for $2 (originally $4 but the color tag was half off) and a learning tower for $5. I love Goodwill and get sticker shock from going shopping even at places like Walmart. That being said I live next to one of the richest zip codes in the state, so a lot of nice stuff gets donated, and I don't work so it is worth it for me to search out the deals.

u/phoenixrising8580 · 2 pointsr/SingleParents

Play pens are your friend. This is a pretty inexpensive option for them. Put one around the couch area and your food to go. Corrals the baby mess and if you are exhausted you can sit on the couch and baby is safe playing in a larger space.

I had one of these outside too so I could switch it up if she was crabby.

If it takes less than a minute just clean it up.

Get lots of nice looking baskets for toys.

I never see these mentioned, so I thought I'd chime in.

I have two dogs and we've never crated them or restricted their use of the house, at least when we're home. I work from home with my 8 month old, and I never knew where to put her during the day, because she'll roll off the couch in a heartbeat, and the pack n play is just too small to spend any reasonable amount of time in. With the dogs, I couldn't just put her on the floor either.

So I got one of these bad boys and a play mat for it, and I LOVE it. I don't know what I'd do without it. She has her little play area safe from the dogs and everything else, it's always clean and easy to keep clean, and the dogs don't feel shafted. If you have the space, I'd highly recommend it.

trying to get organized...

Got these bins off Amazon and finally putting them to use! We will see how long this system lasts (lol), but it’s making me feel a little more prepared so it’s worth it! I love that they have a clear slot for a label and they are good quality —>

We use the Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper. You can take out the part that puts the baby up almost level with the bed, and use it like a pack n' play. One afternoon, I went in to get baby girl up from her nap, and she had managed to crawl from the sleeper up to the bed. We switched it over to pack n' play mode, and she still sleeps there next to me.

I loved having her right next to me and being able to reach out to touch her. I was incredible sad when we dropped her down to the bottom. She is still there, just not as close. Also, ours is black, and sometimes it freaks me out because it looks like a gaping hole of doom right next to me when I first wake up.

Baby girl is almost 8 months, and we will probably use it up until a year or so, and then we will transition her to a mattress on the floor in her room.

We did use a Graco Pack N Play With Bassinet for our office (we both work from home). The bassinet part had no real support like the co-sleeper, so at about 2.5 months the cardboard padded mat started bowing in the middle. By about 3 months, it was awful and took out the bassinet part because it couldn't be good for her like that.

The co-sleeper has metal bars to provide support for the mat. The pack n' play just had a net that hooked onto the sides.
