u/originalmetalqueen · 11 pointsr/BabyBumps

First time posting here in Baby Bumps, but I’ve been a long time commenter/fan of this sub. Currently 38+6 and a FTM. I LOVE seeing everyone’s nurseries and am so excited to share ours! Had so much fun putting the nursery together.

Here are some of the things we got that I love in our nursery:

  1. Birch tree removable wallpaper: NuWallpaper NU1650 Birch Tree Peel and Stick Wallpaper https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q00PA40/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_IgYADbV0S2SB6

  2. Dragon mobile: Baby Unisex Dragon Mobile for Crib Room Decor Nursery Baby Shower Gift https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CSMR1Y3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_phYADbATRKFC4

  3. Green geometric rug: Well Woven Isometry Blue & Grey Modern Geometric Triangle Pattern 7'10" x 9'10" Area Rug Soft Shed Free Easy to Clean Stain Resistant https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZPL8Q1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0hYADb4YGYXBN

  4. Birch tree stump laundry bag: Jacone Stylish Tree Stump Shape Design Storage Basket Cotton Fabric Washable Cylindric Laundry Hamper with Rope Handles, Decorative and Convenient for Kids Bedroom https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6DVUMJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wiYADb71SJQHE

  5. Woodland Animals Crib bedding set - Sweet Jojo Designs https://www.buybuybaby.com/store/product/sweet-jojo-designs-woodland-toile-crib-bedding-collection/238019?keyword=sweet-jojo-woodlands-crib

I know we will probably have to adjust things in the nursery once the baby comes and he gets older (I’ve seen plenty of moms comment on here how they laugh at some of the nurseries because they’ll eventually get wrecked or puked on or whatever) but for right now, I absolutely love it. I wanted to have a lush, forest feel...with dragons!

Good luck to all the moms out there. I’m so excited to become a mom myself. :)

Asking mainly for Kaleope and Kevin. Not sure if I can be gifted for Joely so asking for a second opinion. There was someone trying to buy them more, but it didn't go through for some reason. Technical error I guess. So Joely does not have the thomas container (it was marked purchased) and an item it said Kaleope had, a puzzle, she did also not receive. I deleted received items because I thought I was supposed to, but you can check the comments posted and I can send any order #s I have so you can check those if necessary. Just making it clear so you know I didnt lie. I didn't see anything in the rules about not deleting purchased items and I didnt know at first that they came off the list or showed on their own that they were bought. I am mainly worried about Kaleope since she is the oldest and more aware. I would also like to get something for Kevin if possible. Joely has only a couple small wishlist items but he also did get gifted that communication device so Im not sure if I should be gifted any regular toys or anything for him or not. Is the original price important? It was gifted used, but it is very expensive to purchase. If not he only has 3 items even with the device. I dont want anything for myself or Sylar obviously because we have too much as is. I didnt even expect to win the other things. I entered for fun and won. Thank you for this. xo Happy Holidays.

I made this. The dimensions aren’t perfect but might help see a different way. https://imgur.com/a/XHTquaV so just some thoughts. Move things up walls for space. The glass enclosed dresser doesn’t look easily used. Move the desk over into the corner and move the tall dresser were the glass front one is. The chest and case on it are rough and not very functional. I’d get them out at least while figuring everything out. If you can add shelves or cubes above your side table that would add space. They would need to be screwed in. If you can’t then skip that. Hanging laundry baskets or use a shelf with a couple storage bins to toss laundry in. Depending on measurements possibly something like this on the glass front furniture. C&AHOME Cube Storage Organizer, 8- Cube DIY Plastic Closet Cabinet, Modular Book Shelf Organizer Units, Storage Shelving Ideal for Bedroom Living Room Office with Doors, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XFHW6LK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_fX7RDbR8FS51M shelves with storage cubes, containers or such is another option. Add shelves above the desk. Again bins, tubs, cubes even paper organizers can be used. Dollar stores can give extra options. Don’t consider things exclusive. I needed a closed container to hold chopsticks. I bought a pasta container. Think about how to move things up. Think about how you like things for ease. I like doors but for example some cubes come with or without drawers. Under the bed- I’d consider it storage. It doesn’t look convenient day to day. Under there you want to put this. DampRid FG60FS Moisture Absorber, Fresh Scent, 10.5-Ounce, 2-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CBLW1MQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_L37RDb41XX5VS put reminders in your phone and empty it every few days until you know how much water it absorbs. You replace the crystals every so often. Keep it away from pets. Damp rid will grab tons of moisture but while you’re checking everything out make sure you don’t see signs of a pipe leak. Mold, soft walls, moisture and bad smells pay attention to. Other type cube options but not this brand ClosetMaid 8937 Cubeicals Organizer, 9-Cube, Espresso https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001UU0NJW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_G87RDbVTHK1NV

Whitmor Storage Cubes - Stackable Interlocking Wire Shelves - Black (Set of 6) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007ELALZC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_Y77RDbMDF1414

There’s also things like this if you have space. SIMPDIY Portable Shoe Rack Storage Organizer Shoe Box Storage System with Doors, Shoes,Accessories - Black (2x6 with Boots Cube 93x126x108cm/37x15x50In) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PZ6K548/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_3-7RDbVY3FSB5

Don’t forget what you choose should work for you. So even something like kids toy storage might work better for some. Like this. Tot Tutors WO498 Elements Collection Wood Toy Storage Organizer, X-Large, Grey/Blue/Green/Yellow https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07638ZJQY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_.b8RDb5P0ZMB6 or this Delta Children Deluxe Multi-Bin Toy Organizer with Storage Bins , Grey/Blue https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074PY2ZGS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_Gc8RDb9CTVC9T there’s stuff like this. LANMOK 3pcs Hanging Mesh Storage Basket Foldable Space Saving Toy Organizer with 3pcs S Hooks for Kids Room Bathroom Wall Balcony Wardrobe https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H9VBKW6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_yd8RDbW8NAFWA

Basically storage needs to go up. Bed drawers don’t work in large rooms so use for storage. Put damp rid out. Make sure no leaks. For me the idea is enclosed. Choose what works for you. Don’t forget if the idea of doors on storage cubes don’t work for you that you can use a curtain to cover it if you don’t want others to see. The idea is finding what works for you. If you move things and have a wall space open buy taller items. I’ve been redoing a smaller space so feel free to ask if you need some other suggestions.

Edit another idea is move that wood dresser to the window like in diagram, glass one next to it and cubes where the wood one is now.

Few other things I found while digging in my Amazon orders:

u/Erulastiel · 1 pointr/WTF

It was getting bad. They infest places very quickly. It starts with a few, then bam! They've started breeding. We did what we could before spraying. We vacuumed daily, made sure to keep blankets and clothes off the floor, washed the curtains, but nope. They infested the place within a month. If you're finding a few, I suggest you vacuum every nook and cranny and wash any cloth like material that hasn't moved to a new spot for more than two weeks. Such as your curtains, any clothes on the floor that have sat for a while, underneath your bedding and mattress. Definitely wash your bedding. They like breeding under mattresses and in the corners of the room in your carpet. If you have children who have stuffed animals, I suggest getting rid of them or vacuuming/ washing them throughly and storing them in airtight bags or in a toy hammock to keep them off the floor. Carpet beetles fly, but I find that they're less likely to be interested in them if they're not on the floor. They also love any non heavy traffic areas because they're undisturbed. Like under the bed or in the back of the closet.

I've never lived in an apartment that wasn't infested with them. They don't come in just because you're a filthy human either. They come in because your clothing and carpets are tasty. As a child, I wouldn't touch the bottom of my toy box because the bottom was just alive. It wriggled and crawled there were that many just chilling in there. You would lift up my mattress and it was the same thing. Just crawling. I never slept under the covers on my bed because the blankets would be full of them. My stuffed animals would also be covered in the larvae. Those were bad infestations.

At the apartment I live in now, I was killing about five or six a day until we sprayed pesticides. I was finding larvae under my bed, stuck to the carpet. Once you start finding larvae, it's all over.

4Your best bet after you've found larvae is to bug bomb/ fog/ or spray. I really do recommend the Ortho Home Defense though if you've come to that point. So far, it's done wonders and it lasts a year and it's fairly cheap compared to having to bomb/ fog every few months. We bought the spray bottle version for around $4 each at Lowe's. I haven't seen any beetles in the areas we've sprayed. I've seen a few in the kitchen, which we haven't gotten around to spraying there yet. They've found a safe haven there, but they can't breed in there, so they're slowly dying.

Ok - so you're wanting to stick with the pieces you have. You said in another comment you're thrifty (me too!) and not wanting to spend much, so here's what I'd do:

Right now the dark pieces seem very harsh in the room. I'd embrace the theme of the natural wood accents, and tie in your black pieces by adding in some other natural textures! I was bored/procrastinating and did up a (very choppy) photoshop of what I would do with the space. Here you go! I edited out the clutter just for the sake of the design.

I'd love to see some sort of curtain (beaded?) in front of the vanity to make it feel like a more cohesive room. I think something like this would look really cool, although it's a bit pricy. This is more affordable. You could DIY the circles from the UO one if you like them, I'm sure!

I agree with the other poster about mounting the guitars to the wall and storing the stand.

I would make some dowel frames for your map, and hang it above the mirror. I'd also make a few smaller black and white cardstock prints at Staples (cost you about fifty cents or less per page), do the same with the frames, and stack them vertically along the space of the wall beside your closet door.

Are you crafty? You might be able to make a diffuser shade for your 'boob' light like these folks did.

I'd recommend going to Home Depot / Walmart etc and getting a couple more plants, and putting them in terra cotta pots (they're pretty inexpensive).

I would also get a few baskets and put them on the middle shelf of your bookshelf, to break up the lines and make it less overwhelming to look at.

I would get something for your makeup table to contain your makeup so it looks less cluttered.

Heres some pieces similar to what I photoshopped in that you could pick up on on a budget, but a lot of them could be thrifted if you like hunting!

Beaded Curtain

Lamp Shade

Guitar wall mounts

Linen textured curtains

Basket for makeup brushes

Baskets for shelf organization

I can't see what's going on in your bed area, but if you like my suggestions, I'd be happy to make more recommendations if you post a picture!

Also due in January and have the same "problem". For the clothes, I washed them all and sorted into sizes (NB, 0-3, 3-6, etc). I went through all the clothes and threw the ones I absolutely didn't want (either really ugly, had stupid sayings on them or were stained badly) into a bag. I will eventually donate the clean ones that I just think are ugly, and probably throw away the really stained ones or use them as rags or something. I actually kept a lot because it was in good condition and mostly non-offensive (lots of gender neutral stuff!) I still probably have too much and she won't wear it all, but I figure it's better to have more than not enough.

I have an Ikea Malm dresser and a closet in the nursery. I put onsies and pants in the dresser. Top drawer is NB/0-3 months, next drawer has 3-6 and 6-9 months, and the bottom drawer has 9-12 and 12-18 months. Anything bigger I left in bags and put in the attic for later as I won't need it for a while. The other side of the dresser I put some diapers/wipes/butt cream/other diapering supplies in the top drawer. The bottom drawer is filled with swaddles and blankets. The middle drawer has baby towels/robes/wash cloths.

In the closet I got these dividers and hung things like dresses, overalls, footie pajamas, other larger/fancier items and sorted by size with the dividers. I didn't particularly want baby shoes (babies don't even walk!) but alas, I got a few pairs as gifts. So I put them on the top shelf of the closet.

I have built in shelves right next to the closet, so on those I put rolled up burp cloths, books, and some cute toys that are basically for display purposed right now because I don't think a newborn will play with them.

For swings/rockers right now I have a swing that has a removable bouncer that I plan on keeping down stairs in the living room. I also have a rock n play I am keeping upstairs (in the nursery for now, but might end up in the bedroom or the living room who knows!) The crib and bassinet are upstairs and the pack n play is downstairs. So I have a place to set the baby basically in each room of the house.

If you have extra swings/rockers/pack n plays I would consider keeping them at a family member's house if it's somewhere you think you might visit frequently! Otherwise donate or sell (or return if you have a receipt), but maybe wait until baby is here so you can test them out and see which ones your baby prefers.

Honestly, just buy the real thing. I love ikea and I love idea hacks. But if you want something super solid that won't tip and can handle two large kids (and sometimes 3), the original learning tower can't be beat.

Some of them just take a little longer to figure it out, Mama. With my middle two, the older one wouldn't until the younger one did, and the younger one was terrified because of when the bathroom ceiling collapsed right after she came out of the bathroom when we started training. The thing that made it harder was how much i hated diapers. The thing that made it easier was being able to explain all the things they would be able to do if they used the bathroom, like going to big school, and playing at other people's houses, and getting a little pool for the yard, because when she was 4, she wanted those things, and at some point that wanting outweighed her fear.

I don't know what tools or methods you're using, but if you haven't tried them, this or something like it worked well, as did this which also has variations. I ended up getting the seat with ladder attached again for my youngest, as well.

You'll both be ok, he just has to talk himself into it. Can you get him something small that he's really interested in, and put it where he can see it but not reach it, and tell him that every time he goes on the toilet, he gets to play with it for a little while? Set a timer. We tried so many things. There will be something that works.

Hugs to you and your little guy :) Hang in there

Everything at my local Goodwill is priced the same among like items (shirts are $2.99, pants and jeans $3.49, kids clothes under 4T 1.99 etc) except non clothing items, shoes ,and purses. I've gotten Ann Taylor Loft, Gap ,Chaps , Ralph Lauren, etc. for extreme discounts. I shop for my entire family there, and put us in only name brands for penny on the dollar. Every week they have a tag color that is half off and I have the 10% off discount card that I paid $3 for at the beginning of the year. My best finds lately have been an outfit that originally cost $42 from the Gap for my baby, that i got for $2 (originally $4 but the color tag was half off) and a learning tower for $5. I love Goodwill and get sticker shock from going shopping even at places like Walmart. That being said I live next to one of the richest zip codes in the state, so a lot of nice stuff gets donated, and I don't work so it is worth it for me to search out the deals.

Not OP, but have friends that have those- they are called 'little helpers' and [yes, they are made specifically for that]

I'm also not a fan of large/tall crown moulding, except in large rooms. I feel like it makes the kitchen look smaller than it is here. I feel the same way about the large island- maybe it's just the pics, but it looks like a person can just fit around the one side of it. But! Not my house, so who cares what I think! ;)

trying to get organized...

Got these bins off Amazon and finally putting them to use! We will see how long this system lasts (lol), but it’s making me feel a little more prepared so it’s worth it! I love that they have a clear slot for a label and they are good quality —>

One of my favorite characters is Guts from the Beserk menga. 1. hes a super hot bad boy. 2. hes ridiculously strong 3. i love the progression he makes throughout the show. 4. his, um.. sword is huge :)

and a quote: "If you’re always worried about crushing the ants beneath you, you won’t be able to walk." So true! Stop worrying about the small problems and concentrate on your goal! Boom! Roasted.

This for my son would be great! (his room is overrun with furry things!!) and thanks for the awesome contest!!

u/smooshfest · 5 pointsr/AskParents

I have the exact same problem and have been wondering the same thing. I need a bedside table to hold my glasses, at least. For now, I've decided to try just having the bassinet a bit further down too. I figured that I could change it, if it isn't working out. Another solution would to get something that hangs on the wall that can hold most of this stuff, and just move your side table out of the way temporarily. Some options might look like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Organizer-Hanging-Storage-Pockets-Bathroom/dp/B077G1SQN2/ref=sr_1_18?crid=23483R1I9U7B5&keywords=hanging%2Borganizer%2Bwith%2Bpockets&qid=1555174344&s=gateway&sprefix=hanging%2Borgan%2Caps%2C224&sr=8-18&th=1

This could hold a phone, a water bottle, and tissues. You could even clip a light to it. This is my back up plan until I can think of something that works better.

Congrats and good luck!

u/LavernicaDeLuca · 1 pointr/Flipping

I bought two Learning Towers for $7 each over the weekend. The finish is in rough shape (faded, mostly) but the structure is perfectly solid on both of them.

I have tried Craigslist and local selling groups for $50 each. I had one person who wanted one but when she realized that they don't fold down, she backed out because she's moving and didn't have the room for them. She said she'd contact me after she moved to see if I still had one. Aside from her, no takers, just a few people asking what they were.

I thought they would be an easy flip since they sell for $200 new and they're fairly popular on mommy blogs and Pinterest.

u/mrmosethecat · 5 pointsr/WTT_graduates

I'm thinking about getting one of these for Ramsey. I have 4 caterings on the books this summer, him being able to watch will help keep my sanity. Plus I have every intention of teaching him to cook at every age appropriate level. It's funny, baking gets me so frustrated but I'll happily spend all day on a prime rib. 😂

u/allthefrosties · 1 pointr/BabyBumps

I have a 2 bedroom place, but baby needs to share space with my home-based business! I do have a crib, but for the first few months baby will be in a co-sleeper. For diaper changing I'm putting a changing pad on top of a dresser, it didn't make sense to buy a changing table. I registered for closet organizers, like this one to save space.

u/e-elizabeth-d · 2 pointsr/BabyBumps

Unfortunately I have no idea the name of the crib, and the changing table was second hand.
1.) Big cubes from walmart (very stylish and nice for $5!)
2.) Diaper Genie! No more stank!
3.) Himalayan Salt Lamp! Bright enough to see everything clearly, but calming and soft enough for sleep!
4.) Crib bedding set: Boho Chic Coral Floral Ruffle Baby Minky Blanket, Peach Floral Nursery Crib Skirt Set Baby Girl Crib Bedding (Coral) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BPW69LG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_--jCDbHHNAWR6

u/kalechipsyes · 4 pointsr/POTS

Consider a little plastic stepstool like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/PRIMO-Freedom-Step-Stool-White/dp/B000P26I0E/

It is small and light enough to carry around and stow, and will dry quickly after a good shake. You'll be seated low to the ground, but it's better than nothing, and certainly better than the floor!

Also reach out to your adviser to get you in touch with the department in your school that handles ADA stuff. There may be specialized facilities, or ways that they can relax certain rules, to make it so that you don't have to drop school just yet. Heck, what would they do if a kid was confined to a wheelchair? They would need to have options. There's no reason that you can't be given the same options if your condition requires them.

u/GarlicSAUCE · 3 pointsr/halloween

Have you considered making something like this (but obviously in a color to match the coat as closely as possible) and then sewing it to the trench coat? I think it would work out pretty nicely. Especially if you get enough material to recreate the entire front panel of the coat - so the fabric not exactly matching is less noticeable.

u/offie16 · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

I have been following a Montessori group on Facebook. The learning tower comes to mind. Your kiddo can watch and/or help out with small tasks like cutting soft fruits and vegetables, stirring, etc.
Here is an example: https://www.amazon.com/Little-Partners-Learning-Adjustable-Toddlers/dp/B001ECHXVC

There is an IKEA hack that can be found on the Internet, since it's pretty pricy. Also, check Craigslist.

I am not sure if 10 months is too young for it. They also make guards, or you can make your own, to put around it so your LO doesn't fall through the gaps.

I have a month to go before my LO is born so I don't have any experience on these things. Currently, gathering info and ideas.

u/Penguin123 · 2 pointsr/Parenting

In my house we don't have a TV, so it has never really been an option. My children are now 5 and 2. We did allow both kids to play with an iPhone/iPad for about 30 minutes a day from about 18-20 months, but no screens at all before then. Furthermore, that screen time is only allowed for a few minutes in the morning, and a little longer before the get to bed. Between breakfast and dinner it's almost never allowed.

At the age you're talking about, really 90% of the time the answer is we wore our children. I'm not saying attachment parenting is for everyone, but both my children were worn from a very young age. They both loved it, and my wife and I still regularly wear our 2 year old nearly everyday. For young children that are used to being worn, they generally love just watching whatever the parent is doing. If you imagine being a infant able to roam around the house at adult level, watching all the things you're doing (cooking, cleaning, whatever), it's really as engaging as TV.

When they get older, they might not want to be worn for the whole day, but usually long enough to get tasks done. My older daughter didn't like playing by herself till she was about 3, so I certainly understand the challenges. That said, if TV is not an option, you just learn ways to cope. For instance, we have a learning tower in the kitchen. My 2 year old will spend an hour and half happily watching me prepare dinner from her high perch. Part of that time is snacking, part of the time is watching me, and sometimes she just colors. The point is, without the TV option, both parent and child learn ways to cope.

I believe most of the time when parents say they "can't" function without the TV playing part time babysitter, it's more of a lack of imagination on the parent's part than any any real justification. That said, I don't think children watch will be ruined for life. It's more that without a TV, it opens up many more possibilities for both parent and child, albeit requiring a little more effort.

u/shynnee · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

You totally didn't mess her up, she's fine. But, if you want to play with her more then find some parent led activities you guys can do. Some examples are reading books to her and talking about whats in the book (like asking her to point out things or name things), dancing together or doing a mommy and me workout, or get a learning tower and let her climb up to the counter and see what you're doing and "help".

She'll be handing you books to read and constantly pulling at your leg in no time :P

Some more practical feedback...

> He cries when he doesn’t get more crackers

Don't give him crackers. He eats what you eat, no ifs and buts.

> when I turn the cartoons off,

Don't let him watch cartoons on his own. If you watch cartoons you do it together and only before bed time, 30 minutes per day maximum.

> if we don’t hold him,

Then hold him more. No 18m old has ever been harmed by being held too much. If you can't hold him, carry him around in a baby carrier.

> if we tell him to get out of the kitchen so we can cook

Such a missed opportunity! You should be cooking together as a family because that is a great way for him to learn about food and food culture. Worst thing is he WANTS to learn and you are rejecting it.

I recommend buying a play kitchen from IKEA:

https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60319972/

As well as as learning tower:
