I'm a guy, but my hair used to look kind of like yours earlier in the year when I used ManeLine Premium Shampoo Alternative. The problem? Hydrolyzed Soy Protein. Some hair is protein sensitive and it can really make your hair look like trash.

Also, don't put too much product in your hair. I used to use SheaMoisture Shea Butter on my hair because it was all I had, but while it looked nice and shiny at first, it weighed my hair down and made it look stiff as straw a while afterwards. Same goes for showering. Heavily soaked hair throughout the day that doesn't get the chance to dry will end up stiff as well.

To fix it, I used a traditional ethnic natural bar soap (not the ordinary kind you find at Walmart) and pretty much scrubbed my hair silky clean for a fresh start. I let it sit for a while and washed it all off with moderately cold water. I then brushed it, which I probably should have used a wide toothed comb for instead, but it was tangled really bad. My hair was unbelievably weightless and looked like a lion's mane lol. After a few days, waves started forming again. However, don't let that deep wash be a part of your routine. It's only necessary to reboot your hair. Allow your hair to develop its natural oils after a few days, then clean it again. Scrunch your hair with your hands so it takes shape. Make sure you scrunch not only the bottom, but the top and sides as well to avoid flat roots. Be careful not to put too much pressure on your hair while doing this.

Next, I detangle my hair with a wide toothed comb and coil my strands with my fingers. My hair is longer than yours and I didn't do this when it was short. Tying my hair up in a towel was enough for me at the time. Also, because my hair is longer now, I have to frequently detangle it. I use a wide toothed comb once a week and comb with my fingers from there. Detangling gives it more volume too.

Also, do not use traditional towels and don't scrub your hair with them aggressively. They are really harsh on your hair and it looks terrible. Tie a microfiber towel on your head to let the hair take shape. Then after a while, let it air dry. I use https://www.amazon.com/DuraComfort-Essentials-Absorbent-Anti-Frizz-Microfiber/dp/B00YE3CPW0. Cotton t-shirts are okay, but they aren't very absorbent, so I don't use them as much anymore.

I sleep with a satin pillow case with my hair spread out above my head, but most recommend to tie their hair up in a bun or put a scarf over it. I use https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N6N6V94. I don't really know what it does, but I guess it maintain's the waves/curls.

Now, I don't put any product in my hair at all. I don't use conditioner either, but that's because I don't know what to choose. My hair is more straight/wavy with moderate curls at the ends. You'll be surprised at what a little splash of cold water and frequent scrunching can do for your hair as well. I just wish it was slightly more defined like Chris Cornell's. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/42/a4/f3/42a4f382dde6f6e06dd4d23581d9fbba.png.

Don't forget to eat healthy and get enough sleep! Drink plenty of water. It will show in your hair.

The lesson? Avoid protein in your products, don't over moisturize your hair, and don't be aggressive with your hair.

you suck at shopping

Okay so I went with the "I love you to the moon and back".
I don't know if he wears Jewelry but I thought that looked pretty manly and non expensive. I also found this which could be sort-of manly. Kinda expensive but I thought these were cute. OKAY AND I KNOW THAT THIS IS way over budget, but it includes sloths and what's a better gift than you?

u/KatoPotato · 1 pointr/curlyhair

I will warn you that they get SUPER dirty looking super fast. Drool, makeup - stains it. I would steer clear from a white silk one because it just looks so gross after like a week haha. I buy this one off of Amazon and end up getting a new one every 3-4 months, so it's not that bad of a deal! Not staticky for me at all. It also feels really nice on my skin :)

u/cute4awowchick · 3 pointsr/AsianBeauty

This has been talked about quite a lot if you're interested in looking up past opinions.

I've bought several silk pillowcases from TexereSilk on both Amazon and their website depending on coupons/which one was cheaper at the time. They're high momme weight (22mm) so they feel thick and nice. I have a couple from some different vendors that are thinner and feel way more flimsy, but they've still held up pretty well. I have noticed less hair frizziness and tangles as well as my skin not being as dry, flaky, and pillow wrinkly when I wake up. They're also just plain nicer to sleep on. I machine wash in lingerie bags with my delicate laundry, because ain't nobody got time for handwashing! I also bought mine for $22 each, so I'm not as concerned about them as I would be if they were $50 or $60 each.

u/Cranberry_Lips · 4 pointsr/MakeupRehab

I own an Alaska Bear mulberry silk pillowcase as well as their silk sleep mask and I love them. The reason it's called mulberry silk is because the silk worms eat only mulberry leaves (at least from what I've seen when I helped out at a silk farm as a kid).

I thought about buying the one with the cotton bottom, but I like to flip my pillowcase after a couple of days, and I've never had issues with it moving around.

Silk is a very soft, light, slippery, and breathable material. I've tried satin before and it makes me sweat. It's like I'm cold and hot at the same time. It's also not as soft and it feels heavier.

I definitely recommend at least buying one and trying it out. I wouldn't spend $100 on something from Nordstrom, though, unless it was made in the US by strapping young men.

u/be_ruff_ · 2 pointsr/curlyhair

I would recommend to stop brushing. If you really just want to brush, only do so when soaking wet. Apply your cream (and think about adding a gel or something to hold the curl better) to damp but not wet hair and diffuse or air dry and use a pick to help shape and get volume. As for sleep, try a silk pillow case like [this]
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0070U9GSU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) or a hair buff to sleep in like this

ETA: My favorite products for my hair, which is similar to yours are Cantu Curl Activator and [LA Looks Gel] (https://www.amazon.com/LOOKS-SPORT-XTRME-HLD-Pack/dp/B005JT5XLI/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1518620771&sr=1-2&keywords=la+looks+hair+gel).

u/[deleted] · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Please, take a seat on the floor.

This chair is very similar to your original chair, but it's black. But it could match the couch.

Since you linked both yellow chairs, I thought maybe this, this, or this would be nice. But they seem really pricey.

This isn't as expensive as the others, and comes in purple or yellow.

I hope you find what you're looking for! Thanks for the contest!

u/namemylife9 · 2 pointsr/vegan

These are the best pillow silk alternative pillowcases... I love the feel, and they're specifically good for damaged hair. My hair is a lot less frizzy... plus added bonus they come in a variety of colors and styles! You're welcome. : )

About 2 months ago, I got some satin-silk pillowcases from Amazon and I'm never going back! Not only did my hair look and feel better, my skin cleared up! I used to get really bad breakouts on the sides of my face, but after switching pillowcases, not anymore!

These are the ones I use. They're super cheap, but great quality!

I love these velvet tights so much that I made a close up pic of their pattern my cover photo on fb.

u/bbdoll · 5 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

i use and love these: https://www.amazon.com/Alaska-Bear-Natural-Pillow-non-bleached/dp/B00KDL108M

they're extremely nice and well made imo. i read that mulberry silk is one of the better kinds too.

u/percbish · 1 pointr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

My advice — once a month, massage castor oil onto your scalp and concentrate on the areas that are thin (it will strengthen your hair and encourage growth). I’d leave it in for about an hour. It’s thick stuff. do follow it up with a clarifying shampoo to remove any residue. On the other days, use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. I’m a big fan of garnier fructis whole blends.

As far as the frizziness, I’d brush my hair into a high bun while it’s still slightly damp. Use Bobby pins to secure it in place so you won’t have indentations of a hair tie. When it’s dry, shake it out and you should have more volume. If you do happen to fall asleep on it, I would suggest getting silk pillow cases to prevent any more frizz.

u/SpiritedContribution · 13 pointsr/ffacj

srs Amazon has cheaper silk pillowcases in the $30 range. Of course they are stained with the tears of factory workers, but other than that they are great.

I bought these for myself and my mom. They're fabulous.

u/rhesus_pieces · 2 pointsr/crochet

I'm thinking of embellishing some store/online-bought novelty pillowcases (like for square couch throw cushions) with a cute crocheted border. (I like the idea of personalizing an off-the-shelf item and also the contrast of a sort of surly statement on a pillowcase with a cute frilly border - like this https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JVWXEK0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.)
I've found some online tutorials but looking for more inspiration, tips, etc - does anyone do this? Anyone have any suggestions?

u/Kaysies · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I think you and I need the cutest, sappiest, loviest pillowcases in the world.

I mean, who doesn't like going to bed knowing they're loved?

Thanks for the contest <3

u/mirusmundi · 9 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Came here to say this. I got this pillowcase several months ago and it’s been great for both my hair and my skin (I have fine hair that gets frizzy really easily, and this prevents it from breaking overnight). I sleep on my side with my face slightly off the pillow because I’ve yet to find a sleeping pack that helps everything dry down at night, and I usually wake up on my side or on my back.

u/yobettawerk · 3 pointsr/curlyhair

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VUDO2Y6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_lJywCbQ6V1YTE

No they don’t do that at all! In fact, they get cold and very comfortable. My main issue was that the hair at the back of my neck would get sweaty and tangle badly with regular cotton. Never happens with silk! Look at the benefits of silk for your skin. You never wake up with dents on your skin and it helps improve your overall skin and prevent wrinkles. I swear by silk pillowcases and have gotten some for friends and family and it makes a world of a difference.

u/address-unknown · 4 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I bought these $7 satin pillowcases more than two years ago and they’re still going strong. I wash them in warm/hot water and toss them in the dryer. No pulls, holes, or other trouble and I love that they zip on. I change them out twice a week so they get a lot of washes.

My hair loves them more than my skin, but I think I saw some improvement in skin dryness after switching to these from my old cotton pillowcases. My hair (lots of it, but fine and frizz prone) breaks a lot less near my hairline and seems significantly less poofy.

u/thewidowaustero · 2 pointsr/FancyFollicles

Try a satin pillowcase if you don't want to pin your hair up in something. I have two of these, I don't wake up with a magical perfect halo of curls but it's definitely better than cotton.

u/kdennis · 5 pointsr/TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I would say flannel isn't the best for sensitive skin. I have both these silk ones and these cotton ones and I like both a lot.

Someone already mentioned making sure you have clean pillowcases, which I think is definitely the most important piece.

u/daz_bones · 1 pointr/AmItheAsshole

Here's what I use. I've heard that silk is actually an even better option, but they're definitely pricier. I hope links are allowed!

I like spectrum coconut oil, which is carried at whole foods. I use it as an occasional mask when i have some time to let it soak in and then wash it out well at home. any brand will do through!

Whenever I shower, I use head & shoulders 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner AS my shampoo, followed by [this mask] (http://www.sephora.com/dont-despair-repair-deep-conditioning-mask-P388628?skuId=1784636&icid2=products%20grid:p388628). When I get out of the shower I use this towel that doesn't break my hair because it's microfiber. Then I rub this camellia oil through my hair with my fingers and lay it on really thick if my hair's looking dry. I don't brush my hair anymore because I'm too afraid of breakage.

I sleep on this pillowcase which has helped to not break my hair as well!

Take fish oil capsules if you aren't already, they will help. Lay off of styling products and take a break from brushing if you can.

u/adhocflamingo · 6 pointsr/TwoXChromosomes

You might consider getting a satin pillowcase or sleep cap. The slippery surface musses up your hair less than regular cotton, which is nice for having second-day hair without pillow frizz, and will probably keep your hair from getting all snarled when you sleep.

I have this silk one, which I really like. (The zipper keeps the pillow in the case in nicely.)

Also, if you aren't already, getting your hair cut by someone who specializes in curly hair and can cut your curls to have good separation and movement would likely help. Hair cuts for straight hair can make your curls clump into a single mass, and I think that gets tangled up more easily.

u/katsumii · 1 pointr/longhair

On Amazon! :) I have tried a few brands now, and they each work like a charm for my wavy (normally tangly and frizzy) hair!

Some brands:

Alaska Bear: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CXQZNC8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_OK0vDbS0QTH97

Mommesilk: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXSZ736/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_iM0vDbA5G5057

And another (cheap) brand not worth mentioning, because it was the first one I bought before I learned about what momme is, and it doesn't mention it anywhere.

u/RRErika · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Actually, I understand what you mean about cotton: it just feels perfect in the summer for me. :)

I just noticed that below someone asked the same question and this brand was recommended: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VUDO2Y6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought a ton of pillowcases. You can get a pack like that, keep them in your night stand. Change it, sleep, flip the pillow, sleep, change it again and repeat. Much much easier. ☺️

So currently, I wash my hair every sunday, then deep condition right after, add in leave in, avocado oil and gel. I co wash in the week (kind of). I only co wash if my hair isnt looking as curly because of sleeping (for some reason when i sleep, my hair looks different, still have some curl partners but not defined at all and yes I sleep with satin pillow case https://www.amazon.com/Spasilk-Beauty-Pillowcase-Standard-Queen/dp/B0070U9GSU). Every so often in the week, I would just use hot water and attempt to style my hair compared to co washing. Would only co wash if the use of water no longer works. TOday is friday, I co washed on Wednesday, added water today, my scalp is itch and dry. I think I have been having this problem for a while now but still cant find a way to fix it. Please help me! I want to get defined curls. So far, I have only been able to get defined curls once. Can't remember what I did but that was with longer hair. I did a buzz cut recently but I have gotten to the point where my hair can curl a bit again.

This one is great! It's silk on one side and cotton on the other so it doesn't slip around everywhere. I have 2 so I can change them every week (or two, don't judge).

Haha omg. So sorry! I was replying to someone else about cushion cases and forgot what context your message was about since I sent it from my inbox.

I purchased this Alaska Bear brand silk pillowcase from Amazon.

I have Amazon ones, this one specifically to maintain my curls 2nd/3rd day.

piggybacking off of this, fresh pillowcases helped me a lot too! I ended up ordering these for a dozen for around $2/pillowcase on Amazon.

A trick that I was told by a hairdresser (because I have curly hair) is buy a satin pillowcase. You can buy one for under 10.00 bucks at Amazon.

I heard slilk or satin, but no idea.

This is on Amazon

No problem! I should have included some recommendations. Depending on your budget, here is 1 or 2.
