If it's an X-Fact, you're better off getting a new rear wheel altogether. Those bikes are junk. They're not unusable junk, but parts will keep breaking down. So, rather than replace them with identical parts, you're better off upgrading to something slightly better.

I've had two rear axles break just like that before deciding to just get a new wheel built, with a better hub/rim/spokes.

Otherwise, if you insist on going this route, here you go (just an example after a quick search)

u/zaius · 4 pointsr/bicycling

Wow. I've never heard of eccentric bottom brackets before - sounds like a really good solution. Do you have any pics of it? The only way I've seen for dealing with it is with that is with an eccentric rear hubs, like this, and they're super expensive and require rebuilding the wheel.

u/JuDGe3690 · 1 pointr/bikecommuting

I think you're on the right track looking at upgrading to a 36-hole wheel, especially with the trailer. A double-wall rim is essential.

With your budget, assuming you have a good local shop that specializes in wheel building, you can get a good wheel made. Here's what I would do, although double-check with your local shop:

  • Shimano Deore Hub, 36H – $30-40
  • 14-gauge DT Swiss spokes, either DT Competition or DT Champion – $36 ($1/each)
  • Sun Rhino Lite rim, 700c, 36H – $30-35
  • Labor should be about $35-50 depending on shop and location.

This will put you right about $150 and if built right will be one of the strongest wheels you've ever had. Note, though, that that particular rim won't take a tire smaller than 32 or 35 mm, not that I'd go any smaller with a load. If you get a new bike, you'll probably want to put this wheel on the new bike as well.

I used these panniers and this tent when riding cross country. The panniers are pretty good and large for the price, but the tent is awesome, I recommend it to everyone.

You should strip it down clean out the old grease and check for wear on the cones. Hopefully the cones are okay and don't need replacing. Your local bike shop should be able to get you new cones and bearing balls or, since that is a cheap hub it may be cheaper and easier to buy a new hub and swap all the internals over . I would replace all the bearing balls since the hub is probably due for a service and mixing new and old balls will greatly accelerate wear.

Here is a link detailing how to service hubs, the bare minimum you will need is cone spanners, grease, some kind of cleaning solvent (I use petrol), and a container to clean parts in. http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/hub-overhaul-and-adjustment

Here is an exploded view of your hub: http://www.shimano.com/media/techdocs/content/cycle/EV/bikecomponents/HB/EV-HB-2200-2201A_v1_m56577569830647950.pdf

Here is a link to the same hub on amazon, it costs $11.72: http://www.amazon.com/Shimano-Front-Hub-Hb-2200-36H/dp/B0063R2RVE/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411032962&sr=8-1-fkmr1&keywords=hb+2200+via+cones

Also the hub probably slowly unwound over time due to worn and poorly lubricated internals grabbing together as the wheel rotated. You can avoid this by cleaning and re-greasing your hubs periodically. I would check the rear hub too as it is probably in a similar state.

If you get stuck search for cup and cone hub rebuild on youtube. Good Luck.

OK, so here's what we're looking at:

Carbon Fiber Frame

Carbon Fiber Fork

Carbon Fiber Wheels

~$50 tires

BUILT IN sensors for power (amongst other things) w/ bluetooth connectivity and GPS, lets estimate ~$200 for a similar device, which is super cheap for what it is.

~$150 Saddle

~$25 handle bar covers

~$60 pedals

~$300 back hub

Here's me doing some guesswork based off the Sora brakes: ~$350 for full Sora groupset

Total: $1135 JUST for the components, not even counting the carbon frame/fork/wheels.

All for ~$1000 for single-speed or $1200 for geared.

I'm calling bullshit. Especially since it's going through Kickstarter.

If they REALLY have some super secret carbon fiber tech that allows them to make the stuff THAT cheap, they would sell it to a big company, make money, and we never would've heard anything from them.

It should say on the rear hub what kind it is. Most likely a Sturmey Archer. These things last forever and rarely need to be disassembled. There should be an oil port on it. Flood that thing with 20W motor oil.

You most likely need a new shifter cable and possibly a new indicator chain. Lucky for you they are cheap.

Cable.

Mark I indicator chain.

Mark II Indicator chain.

You may have to shorten the cable housing. Use the one that came with the bike to figure out how much to remove.

If you still have the original indicator chain and it is not too banged up then use that. There are two sizes and you need the correct one for the bike.

Correct indicator chain sizing:
If your axle measures 5 3/4″, the correct indicator is HSA125 (a.k.a. Mark I).
If your axle measures 6 1/4″, the correct indicator is HSA126 (a.k.a. Mark II). You must use the correct size.

Anyway, if your original is good. Use it. Flood that hub with oil. It should overflow. With the indicator chain in, flip the bike over and spin the rear wheel. Pull the chain repeatedly to work that new oil in there. It'll free up any stuck parts.

Attach the cable barrel end to the indicator chain. Shift the shifter to 3. Cable should not be too slack or too tight. Try shifting. If it is too tight loosen the barrel on the cable. If it is too loose, tighten it.

PM me if you have trouble. I have 4 bikes with these.

u/Eruerthiel · 3 pointsr/bikewrench

Unless the word "loose" means something I don't understand, then yes, it's a 7-speed cassette which fits on a 7-speed splined freehub.

edit: and to further clarify, I wish to replaced the splined part with something like this, so that my freehub can accept 8 or 9 speed cassettes. But I don't know if that or any other part you can buy these days is compatible with the freehub I'm using.

u/DStoo · 1 pointr/AdviceAnimals

Lets see, I take it you didn't even look at the 2 bikes.

Trek 7.2 FX.

u/echorian · 2 pointsr/EngineeringPorn

It's a lower midrange hub from a Giant OEM wheel. Typically these Hubs are manufactured by a Chinese company such as formula, joytech, or novatech. They are solid, although not of particularly exceptional quality. If you're interested in a high quality hub that uses non-cartridge ball bearings like in the GIF, look at Shimano hubs like this Shimano XT.

u/P-Tricky · 2 pointsr/whichbike

Not from a cursory search. You'll likely have to get them built. Or if you have a co-op in your area, they can probably teach you how to do it yourself.

Parts list (good):

u/AnontheMaus · 1 pointr/bikewrench

in the absence of better pics, I'd take it into your LBS and show them, they'll tell you what you need. It looks like a 7sp Hyperglide freehub and this unit could be a direct replacement but I don't know what hubs are on the bike so taking it into an LBS would be the surest way of matching it up..

u/Jariboi · 6 pointsr/bicycling

SRAM Torpedo Singlespeed is the first ever single speed hub, that you can ride free or fixed! Seven rotations with a screwdriver will switch SRAM Torpedo.

https://www.sram.com/sram/urban/family/torpedo#sm.0000pyexhv10v8d7wz8gbtyemzib5

amazon has 'em for less than $50:
https://www.amazon.com/SRAM-Torpedo-Fixed-Free-Hub-18T/dp/B003BNY478

u/Ryanf8 · 1 pointr/bicycling

Thank you. I'm looking at this Shimano Tiagra, just because it's new and will ship very quickly. Then I'll take the proper measurements.

When I was considering that used M510 hub, I've noticed there's not a lot of 244mm spoke options on-line, and the shop I went to said they have to special order spokes. Since I see more sizes in 242mm and 246mm, do you think these sizes would've worked?

u/blorg · 1 pointr/bicycling

I honestly don't think that is that excessive, people spend extreme amounts on bike stuff all the time. My own touring bike is over $4,000, and that's not the most expensive bike I own.

I mean here is a hub, yes, a hub, a geared hub admittedly but a hub, that costs over $1,200:

http://www.amazon.com/Rohloff-Speedhub-Speeds-16t-Silver/dp/B001GSOPOC

These things are very popular with touring cyclists, I have met plenty that have one. Despite being fricking $1,200. For a hub. Not even the whole wheel.

I'm not necessarily seeing the point of this caravan thing over a tent, but the price alone isn't a "yikes", if there is someone who actually wants this for some reason.

u/r0botluv · 4 pointsr/bicycling

just a bit cheaper than the most best alternative

u/foot-long · 5 pointsr/MachinePorn

found the Rohloff Speedhub on amazon. $1,216.80, you save $49.58

u/offlines · 1 pointr/FixedGearBicycle

phil wood

arguably the best looking hub, and reviews/reports are saying its durable..

if I were to drop 350 on hubs, i'd get wood hubs..

u/visgoth · 2 pointsr/MTB

Bah, if we're gonna spend money then let's get a Rohloff. Go big, or go home!

u/nowhere3 · 2 pointsr/bikewrench

The thing you're looking for is called an indicator chain, not an indicator spindle. You should be able to tell which one you need based on the type of SA hub you have.
