High The two girls here are named Kara and Hayley and both of them love books. Hayley is six and she would love this book I did tell her she was a little old for it but she really loves the movie and it would make her happy. Kara is really obsessed with braiding everything right now so she would lovethis book so she could learn more that just a regular braid. They are both awesome kids who have been through a lot of changes recently and they both love reading. both of these books are on their wishlists and prime so there should be no shipping issues if they are chosen. Thanks for the offer it is really sweet of you.

Never too early to start! It's good for them to hear your voice and be exposed to lots of spoken language even if they can't focus on pages yet or show obvious interest.

During the potato stage, I read aloud whatever I was reading, read random children's books, and would also hold up high contrast picture books (like this). High contrast patterns are especially attractive to young babies because their vision isn't very good at first, and those were definitely the first ones she showed signs of interest in.

As she got able to grab stuff, we liked having some fabric/crinkly books, and the "indestructible" books like this are also great because they don't tear and can be washed.

For the most part, though, we just have regular board books. Stuff by Sandra Boynton are favorites in our house, as are the "touch and feel" kind. My baby is in the "must grab any available paper and try to eat it" stage, so non-board books with pages that can be torn are temporarily off the table for us, but I'm so excited for when she's old enough to handle those!

You don't need all the different kinds of books I mention, and most libraries also have board books in the children's section. Reading to your baby every day is one of the best things you can do for him, however you go about it.

Edit: Wow, that got long. Um, can you tell I like books?

When my son was an infant, I loved reading I Kissed the Baby. The high contrast illustrations are great for wee ones and it's super cute and you can kiss and tickle them when you read it :)

u/grafton29 · -1 pointsr/worldnews

Wow, calm dumb buddy. That kind of attitude is exactly how you end up making stupid comments like ones you just did. Did you know that instead of saying retarded stuff on reddit you could instead pick up a book so you maybe (just maybe) end up making less stupid comments. A book a bunch papers held together by glue, inside books are normally long form ideas, it's kind of like reddit comments but longer. Try them they are fun. Here is one you can start with that i think you will like :D

Im glad we had this conversation, hopefully this is the beginning of your love for reading. I believe in you and i know that you too will be able to have big good ideas in your brain one day.

Hi all, throwaway account here. Hope it's ok!!

I've just written an e-book for littlies (Baby-6) and it's free today (once Amazon decides it's the 19th Dec) :-)

It's a very short read!

I would be SO appreciative of any and all feedback, particularly from little ones.

my oldest hated being read to until he was around 2. even just getting him to sit with a book and play with it was a challenge! we had some success with books by Xavier Denoux, finger puppet books, cutout/peekaboo books like this, and for some reason he LOVED Big Fish, Little Fish. i also picked up some nursery rhyme books because he responded better to having me sing the songs while looking at pictures instead of reading. he's 3 now and will sit through 5+ stories at bedtime if we let him.

I work in a used book store and mostly deal with kids' books, and while that's unfamiliar to me (I don't really have time to read the books other than to flip through them for content and condition) I might be able to help, and there's the off chance I may even run across a copy.

Questions for you:

  1. When did you see the book?

  2. What decade would you guess this book was published in?

  3. Do you remember a publisher?

  4. Was it photos of animal babies, or illustrations, and if so, what kind (cartoonish vs. realistic)?

  5. Was this a hardcover, softcover or board book (chunky cardboard books for toddlers).

And If you're looking for something along those lines, Animal Dads by Sneed Collard is pretty good.

This is an Amazon suggestion, but My First Day by Steve Jenkins seems pretty close to what you're describing.

Really interesting about the polar bear imagery. I came across a children’s book recently that I absolutely love, called Pup and Bear, about a polar bear who adopts an orphaned wolf pup. Really beautiful book in any case, but also really resonated with me and my inner child. Maybe I’ll try to do some imaginal nurturing kinds of things with that character...

There are indestructible baby books you can buy that can actually go in the wash, too! Link to Amazon but you can prob find at B & N or children’s toy stores: https://www.amazon.com/Indestructibles-Baby-Animals-Amy-Pixton/dp/0761193081/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?hvadid=73873595677917&hvbmt=be&hvdev=m&hvqmt=e&keywords=indestructible+baby+books&qid=1558661217&s=gateway&sr=8-3

We love them and they’re not super expensive.

The kids magazine Highlights has a similar idea called Hello for babies. It’s not as indestructible but my kiddo hasn’t been able to tear one yet and she’s been getting them for over s year :)

Funny you posted this today. I actually just launched my 2nd book today on this very topic. It is about not being really good at something and putting in hard work and practice to get better. I would love to hear what you think!

Thanks! I went with Baby Animals and Sea Life Stained Glass.

Even if I can't make it on Sunday, these seem like they could be a fun time.

u/MrsBeara · 1 pointr/Parenting

We've been reading this Twinkle Twinkle Little Star book at bed time. She LOVES to point out the star in each page.

I can't wait until she's older and I can start reading Harry Potter to her. I've always said that is one of the things I'm most looking forward to about having kids. :)

u/Hueynzoey · 1 pointr/beyondthebump

We do this! We read 3-4 books a night, and the last one is always the same. The book we use is If Animals Kissed Goodnight

PS I am loving all the suggestions here!! I will be going out to purchase some new books today

Edit: a word

I have a series of three children's books that I love to hear read. Here is an example Lucy the Hiking Bunny (Amazon Link). These are done in a nursery rhyme style that are "slice of life". (For example, on the hiking book they go swimming, camping, etc.) Let me know what you think!

u/magrat22 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Evelyn Quijas - [Instagram] (https://www.instagram.com/magiccconch/) very talented.

She also did the illustrations for this book Periquito: The story of Little Parakeet (Spanish Edition).

Our current favorites with our 12 month old are Flip, Flap, Fly! and Time For Bed . Seconding the Dr. Seuss books too! Classics.

The Saw series would be my favorite, especially the first one

You might want to try some books on pooping in the potty, not just vague "I'm a big kid and I use the potty" books, specifically ones that talk about pooping. These two are both really great for getting kids to poop on the potty. If you can't find a book that works, I'd suggest making a social story.

https://www.amazon.com/Wheres-Poop-Julie-Markes/dp/0060530898/

As you said, it doesn't sound like bowel control is an issue, and since she's been peeing for a year it sounds like the toilet itself isn't a problem either. You could also try bribing her with stickers or toys, but I babysat for a woman who did this with her kid and he started pooping just a tiny bit at a time and demanding a toy after every little deposit.
