USS Enterprise cake is a necessity.
But the real fun comes in the food the various alien races eat.
Romulan Ale is a very potent bluish drink. There is an energy drink on the market called "Romulan Ale" but it was used to promote the movie. You can find a few cans of it here but your best bet is to make some using lemonade, blue curacao, vodka and triple sec.
A really good source for you though would be to go to K'Tesh's Klingon Recipe Pages. It's a really crappy website...not gonna lie but I think it used to be on geocities. You'll get some good ideas there for food and drinks.
As for music, there are a number of good choices. I highly recommend Spaced Out: The Best of Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner. It's pretty hilarious with lots of Trek-inspired music. You can also get all the movie soundtracks. It's too bad but I really don't know of any Klingon music available for download or for purchase.
Think Geek was selling the TOS Tunic Tees - not sure if they have any left in stock. Matching outfits!
As for games, dabo was quite popular at Quark's on Deep Space 9. Players bet to win bars of gold pressed latinum. Dabo is similar to roulette. Get a roulette wheel and bet with gold wrapped candy bars?
Another game that was incredibly popularized in the Trek universe was poker - specifically in TNG.
Can I come to your dad's party? This sounds like so much fun. I wish my dad was into Trek.
You're lucky they stopped there. Back in the '60s, if you were the star of a hit TV series, they'd make you put out a record. Because if you loved watching them play Rowdy Yates or Doctor Kildare on TV, surely you'd love to hear them sing too!
Clint Eastwood, when he was Rowdy Yates on Rawhide
Richard Chamberlain, when he was Dr. Kildare
Adam West, when he was, well, Batman
And I probably don't need to remind you of the musical adventures of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy.
Mind you, it could very well have happened. Joe Pesci did release an album as his character from My Cousin Vinny. It wouldn't have been hard to talk him into recording "Harry Lime Sings Songs of Love" or something.
This is awesome.
It's not the same style but check out The Kids of Widney High. They are another band of special needs kids but unlike The Pink Spurdos, the instruments are played by their teachers and friends. Not sure where they are now but I'm glad to be able to say I've seen them play a couple times.
There is a youtube documentary - Kids of Widney High: A Short Documentary If that interests you, check out this other documentary Act Your Age: The Kids of Widney High Story and pick up their music.
The ultimate Moxy Früvous song: Green Eggs and Ham.
Got to see them live back in the early 90's. These early recordings don't do justice to how great of singers they really are, but the writing definitely displays their intelligence.
If you have the chance to pick up their live/greatest hits cd I highly recommend it.
The long haired one, Jian Ghomeshi can be heard daily (mostly) on the CBC Radio show "Q" where he recently did an interview with Ice-T and had live performances by KD Lang
You may have seen his interview with Billy Bob Thorton posted on reddit some time ago.
Member Murray Foster now plays bass for the band Great Big Sea
I just spent all last week compiling about 24 hours worth of Christmas tunes! My favorite albums are:

|name|Ween|
|about artist|Ween was an experimental rock group formed in 1984 in New Hope, Pennsylvania, United States when Aaron Freeman (Gene Ween) and Mickey Melchiondo (Dean Ween) met in an eighth grade typing class. Ween collected a large underground fanbase despite being generally unknown in mainstream music circles aside from their 1992 fluke hit “Push Th' Little Daisies”. The band's style is eclectic, and while they could generally be referred to as rock, one of their defining tendencies has been experimentation with various styles incorporating a strong element of humor and absurdity. Seconded. Great choice of songs, played well and fun to listen to. Another good one from recent years is Aimee Mann's "Drifter in the Snow."
A couple more recent compilations I like are Psych-Out Christmas, "A John Waters Christmas" and "Where Will You Be Christmas Day?".
The all-time greats everyone should have are Phil Spector, Vince Guaraldi, Bing Crosby and a rockin' oldies compilation of your choice.
Ohhhhhhhhhh well I encourage that! The album is pretty old bit we still love it, here it is on Amazon : I'll Be A Homo For Xmas https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000008T5L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_muk2Db3R5J9WZ
Also see if you can find the song "Basted in Blood" from an ep of SNL with "Cinder Calhoun" (Ana Gasteyer) and Sarah Mclachlan if you don't have it already! It's another of our traditional "is this stupid season over yet?!!" playlist.
ETA : I just watched the segment again and almost hurt myself laughing again. Watching Mclachlan trying to stay in character and not to crack up as Gasteyer absolutely goes batshit is hysterical!
Honestly, whenever I do something like this and it is an upbeat affair I start with 80s music. Even if they have a hard time admitting it, there is some 80s music that will make someone smile (and dance if that's the sort of thing you're after).
I got this collection ages ago and it's been super useful ever since: http://www.amazon.com/Like-Omigod-The-Culture-Totally/dp/B000068ZVP
I, too, had Maxell tapes loaded with songs from the Dr. D show. I remember pushing 'record' just as each song was starting on the radio, and if it turned out to be one I already had (or didn't like) I'd rewind the tape a few seconds to be ready for the next song. 80's technology!
I also had one or two of the Dr. Demento's Greatest Novelty Records of All-Time albums, but they're long gone—as is my vinyl Dare to be Stupid.
Speaking of DtbS, Weird Al is writing children's books now. They're really good, and if you have kids I highly recommend them. Sick brag: we actually see him every now and then at REDACTED. He's super-cool and doesn't have an ounce of ego in him. I told him about staying up late to listen to Dr. Demento and he told me that he used to do the same thing. It reminded me that he was really young when he started doing his parody songs.
EDIT: Good lord. Dr. Demento is still alive and hosting his (now-online) show.
I own the album. It's really good. Surprisingly, really really good.
Edit: To introduce the album to a friend, I played track 4 for her and asked what she thought. Response- "I think it's unfair that a William Shatner song just made me cry."
Definitely puts on a hell of a show. Has at least half a dozen costume changes, including the "fat" suit.
A very good dvd of what it's (mostly) like to see him in concert can be had here. I say mostly because during his costume changes you'll be entertained by all sorts of funny clips and celebrity "interviews" like what he used to do in his Al TV days. But those are left off the DVD.
Ahh - but the album he did with Ben Folds (Has Been) http://www.amazon.com/Has-Been-William-Shatner/dp/B0002RUPH4 is outstanding. The cover of Pulp's "Common People" always makes me smile.

The word is getting around.
Dude, I heard "Dirty Love" on a classic rock station, and when I bought the CD I found it on, it was a compilation CD that was put out in the mid 90's called "Strictly Commercial". I listened to the CD once, broke out in a cold sweat, nearly came, and dropped to my knees babbling like a southern baptist preacher in the midst of a well rehearsed glossolalia, as the inward parts of my brain convulsed in ecstasy. It really runs the Zappa gambit of some of his most hook laden works, and isn't burdened by all the jazz fusion stuff that you may or may not like later.
>Frank Zappa 101. As close as anyone has come to a definitive greatest hits set, Strictly Commercial manages to encapsulate much, if not most, of a career that deliberately defied any such attempts. This is the most accessible single collection of Zappa's music available, containing familiar ditties such as "Don't Eat The Yellow Snow," "Joe's Garage," and the radio hit, "Valley Girl." Those skeptical of his guitar work will most certainly find the included selections, "Sexual Harassment in the Workplace," "I'm the Slime," and "Muffin Man" to be educational. Excellent for whetting the appetites of potential Zappa fanatics. --Andrew Boscardin
There's a DVD you can get of the originals, and there are a bunch of pop stars who have done covers. The R&B version of "Mr. Morton" is really good (and I'm not a big fan of hip-hop or R&B).
Found it. Rock it, Skee-Lo.
Edit: Found where these come from: Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks from Atlantic Records. Most of the tracks have been put together with the original cartoons on YouTube as well. I'm so impressed with how well some of these were done.
The "greatest hits" album is Strictly Commercial and that's how I got started. Spotify now has a gigantic collection of his work, and I would wholeheartedly recommend that any rock/jazz musicians try out a few of his songs. He was an incredible composer and band leader.
You should check out A John Waters Christmas. Not necessarily new songs, but great Christmas songs that nobody has heard of.
I would wager that "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" wouldn't be that great in metal?
Seriously, I think it's because a lot of Christmas music was written back when they used the genre that was popular at the time. Then, it was "covered" into a new genre, etc... people tend to want Christmas music to be something they can sing to, stores want it to be non "threatening and comforting." Religions are picky about what they like, and a lot of Christmas music is non-secular. Jazz and easy listening is more soothing.
If you are looking for alternatives, try searching amazon "genre and christmas music" and see what pops up. I found this punk rock album.
I have this from Christmas:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spaced-Out-William-Shatner-Leonard/dp/B0000089JE
It has like 4 or 5 songs from Shatner. They're quite funny to listen to in contrast with Nimoy's singing.
Yes! It was an HBO series before there was a movie. If you like the D then you should really check this out.

I just bought Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks at my local used CD store for $5.
Hearing Blind Melon's performance of Three Is a Magic Number is still pretty invigorating.

I had the VHS tapes from a decade earlier so used those with our kids (also college age now) but later bought the DVDs too. My kids know every one of the SHR eps and we still break into the songs on road trips. We also had the tribute CD in the car most of the time.
