The cord itself will be fine; it's the ends that need protection. "Waterproof outlet cover" and "extension cord waterproof connector".

Something like this where the cord plugs into the wall:

https://www.amazon.com/Taymac-MM420C-Single-Non-Metallic-Weatherproof/dp/B00JU532B0

and something like this for plugging the camera into the cord:

You would then need to install a duplex mud ring to bring the box flush as well as an oversized trim cover, as a standard duplex cover will not be large enough to conceal that opening.

Could attach a metal octagon/round box inside the top of the existing recess can. Could add an octagon box extension to that to bring it down closer to the ceiling. Could also shim the octagon box down closer to flush with the ceiling by using wood such as 2 x 4s.

I would just use a round blank box cover and drill a hole in it for your wire. A little dab of silicone where the wire comes out of the box would be good.

The proper and legal way would be to put a box extension on that box and run your wire through conduit. I don't think all that is necessary. You could also just move the fixture down and mount it properly to the box thus avoiding the exposed wire.

I guess I could use one of these.

Had a few requests for the equipment used, here's the list:

Refurbished iPad Air 2nd Gen

10ft lightning cable

Outlet lock box cover

Thin Lightning Wall charger

iPad Wall Mount Display

iPad Screen Protector

Small Padlock

I think this kind of thing would work at a condo, where you aren't allowed to actually replace the gang or drill into the brick. IIRC, this is attached by the same screw that holds the outlet in place, then the cover can lock over the whole thing.

These are sold as a complete kit.

You will likely not be able to find just the doors... anything you will find will have the face plate, and the cover.

Carefully cut the caulking with a razor knife. Remove the old cover. Replace with a new, more durable cover. Apply a thin bead of high quality (preferably color matched) silicone caulking.

I can't fit a Wyze Plug into my outside outlets, but I have another brand that's smaller and it fits entirely inside an "in-use" outlet cover that seals shut (similar to this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JU532B0).

It's been outside over 2 years with no issues.

I can't promise it would fit the cord end you're using, but have you looked at a lockable weatherproof cover?

Alternately, is the outlet mounted on a wall? You might just get a enclosure and cut a large hole in the back so it can be placed bolted over the existing outlet. Cut a notch in the bottom just large enough for the cord to exit.

The OP said that he does not have access to the breaker box. Disconnecting a live outlet is something that should not be attempted by anyone who is not a trained electrician.

Now, what you could do is install a locking outlet cover, which will not involve messing with live wires. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Intermatic-WP1000HC-Electrical-Weatherproof-Horizontal/dp/B000CQY9J0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1427037748&sr=8-4&keywords=locking+outlet+cover

If your lease does not specifically state that you have the responsibility to provide electricity for workmen, then this could work, Your landlord can't remove it without damaging the outlet.

He could have it removed, then try to charge you for it, and then you'll end up in court, but if you show that you aren't going to be pushed around he might back off.

Bottom line, be ready to go to court anyway.

Shame you don't have access to a breaker box. I used to live in a complex that would shut off power to vacant apartments, then steal power from occupied adjacent units from outdoor receptacles. They were tripping my breakers because they were running multiple air compressors off one circuit. I did disconnect the outlets, then left them in place. It pissed them off, but they didn't steal from me any more.
