u/i_like_oliver · 11 pointsr/scacjdiscussion

I would like to preface this by saying this is what I would do for me personally knowing what I know now about my own skin. If I were making suggestions for someone else I think this list would be very very different.

Under $50:

Heimish All Clean Balm [$17]

CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion [$11]

CeraVe Healing Ointment [$9]

Australian Gold Tinted Sunscreen [$13]

This particular budget was actually a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I prioritized Sunscreen first, because that is an important product to me and it is a product that was difficult to find something I was happy using every day. I picked the cleanser next because I knew it was going to be pricey at this budget. I really think oil cleansing has done wonders for my skin. I especially like balms. I find them much easier to use. I occasionally like to use a straight oil, but on a daily basis using something with an emulsifier is just more practical. In reality if I had to stick to this budget all the time, I would probably sub out the Heimish for an emulsifying cleansing oil like Kose or the Simple one. I just haven't used either of those yet, I wasn't comfortable substituting that for the sake of this exercise.

I don't think I would be totally happy with this routine long term. It's not as hydrating as I tend towards and it doesn't have any actives. The CeraVe lotion is nice, but I wouldn't LOVE using it. I picked this over the CeraVe cream because I find that the cream does not actually sink into my skin. It's nice over other thinner formulas, but it tugs at my skin uncomfortably if used on its own.

Under $100

Heimish All Clean Balm [$17]

Stridex Maximum Acne Medication Pads [$4]

Dear, Klairs Supple Proparation Facial Toner [$22]

Hada Labo Gokujun Premium Hyaluronic Solution [$15]

Holika Holika Skin and Good Cera Super Cream [$17] (this is discontinued, but as long as it's $17 at Amazon or CVS where I bought it I will probably keep using it)

Jojoba Oil [$8 @ Trader Joe's]

CeraVe Healing Ointment [$3] [Travel Size]

Australian Gold Tinted Sunscreen [$13]

TBH this is making me realize how much money I actually spend on my routine. GEEZ I DIDN'T NEED THIS TODAY. Essentially I just took out the CeraVe lotion and added my HG Hydrating/Moisturizing Layers. The Klairs seems like so much of a splurge here, but it really truly is one of my favorite products to use. It is very hydrating and soothing to me. I also added the Stridex because it's cheap, effective, easy to use and this is one active I know I can tolerate if I keep up my hydration/moisturization.

I think the CeraVe Healing Ointment is a true workhorse and I would never be with out it, BUT I don't actually use very much of it. I mean I bought my first 3 oz. tube 9 months ago and I don't think I've even used half of it. With the smaller budget it makes more sense to get a bigger tube because it can be SUCH a multitasker, but since I have a few more items in the way of "moisturizing" here, I would probably purchase a very small tube of the ointment (mostly for my lips and the corners of my nose) and also incorporate Jojoba Oil. I love Jojoba for cleansing and for mixing into other products. My very chapped lips also DRINK UP oils like no one's business.

I am ashamed to say this routine is still short of some things I use pretty frequently, but I would still be happy with it. It has everything I actually need.

Under $200:

Heimish All Clean Balm [$17]

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser [$15]

Stridex Maximum Acne Medication Pads [$4]

Stratia Soft Touch AHA [$14]

Dear, Klairs Supple Proparation Facial Toner [$22]

Hada Labo Gokujun Premium Hyaluronic Solution [$15]

Stratia Rewind [$16]

Stratia Liquid Gold [$24]

Holika Holika Skin and Good Cera Super Cream [$17]

Jojoba Oil [$8 @ Trader Joe's]

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 Soothing Repairing Balm [$15]

CeraVe Healing Ointment [$3] [Travel Size]

Raw Honey [$7ish]

Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask [$5]

Australian Gold Tinted Sunscreen [$13]

Again these all the same products as before. The three additions I use frequently are the LRP B5, Stratia Liquid Gold, and Stratia Rewind. The Raw Honey and the Queen Helene are masks that I know work for me and are fun to use. I very rarely use the honey buy itself, but it is lovely as a mask mixed with the Klairs (thanks to u/LGBTQBBQ for that tip). I've also included the Stratia Soft Touch here because it is on my list to try. I'm pretty sensitive to actives and I think a 10% Mandelic is something I could handle.

I actually really enjoyed having to think about my routine like this. I really thought I had paired down my routine quite a bit and I suppose I have, but even the $200 budget would not be enough to repurchase everything I use on a monthly basis. This (mostly) doesn't even include things I want to try or things I have around just in case or just because. Realistically I would have a couple more wash off masks, and eye cream (even though it is not at all necessary imo), at least one other kind of sunscreen, and maybe one or two other moisturizers.

But I guess I'm that kind of extra bitch.

...and like its a hobby right? It's ok to spend money on a hobby.

At least that is what I'll tell myself.

Awww, I know that feel completely.

I've never tried any Tatcha products, however... I have been in the market for an enzyme cleanser lately, and the one I'm looking at is often cited as a great dupe of the Tatcha Rice Enzyme Cleanser in the Amazon reviews- the SRB Stabilized Rice Bran Enzyme Cleanser, $25 on Amazon or Peach & Lily. I first saw this in a Liah Yoo video and I guess due to the kinda bland packaging it's not very popular, but the reviews on Amazon and Amabie are excellent. Apparently the product is extremely gentle and the ingredients list is pretty short, so it might be ideal for you. :)

https://www.amazon.com/Rice-Bran-Cleanses-Brightens-Exfoliates/dp/B01DZDIJSS

Honestly, I'm kind of an AB noob myself, because although I research many products, I don't really have that much $$ to spend on products and try them. Since you have sensitive skin, maybe try a balm cleanser? They're apparently very nourishing and the Banila Co Clean It Zero Sensitive formula has great reviews. Renee from Gothamista has also recommended the Heimish Cleansing Balm (it has donkey milk and she's butter, oh my gosh) and I believe her skin type is also dry-sensitive.

Looking at the ingredients in the serum and cream, they seem somewhat similar to the Nature Republic Royal Ginseng line, all the way from the rice, royal jelly, ginseng, sodium hyaluronate, and silk extracts to the 24k gold. This line is very expensive as well, but may be less problematic to you.

The top, likely active, ingredients in the Serum are Algae Extract and Rice Extract and in the cream the Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate is the number 1 ingredient, so I think you should start looking for serums and creams high in those actives, as those are the highest concentrated ingredients in the Tatcha moisturizing products.

I couldn't find much with Algae Extract that was a moisturizer, except one Nature Republic Eye Cream, the Collagen dream eye cream.

https://www.amazon.com/NATUREREPUBLIC-Collagen-Dream-Cream-Korean/dp/B00H4HD25W

The second ingredient, the Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate, is very interesting because it actually used to be the active ingredient of the famous SK-II Essence, before it was replaced by the very similar Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate. This Ingredient is likely going to be much easier to find in an essence rather than a moisturizing cream. I know that the Missha First Treatment Essence has Saccharomyces but I'm also including a link/list of SK-II dupes that contain either Galactomyces or Saccharomyces as they are very similar, and because many of the other SK-II dupes are actually cheaper (the Missha is around $50), including the CosRx Galactomyces which is only $15.

http://musicalhouses.blogspot.com/2016/01/sk-ii-facial-treatment-essence-dupe.html?m=1

https://sokoglam.com/products/time-revolution-first-treatment-essence

https://www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Galactomyces-Whitening-Power-Essence/dp/B00OZE57XW

The last ingredient, Rice Extract, is present in an insane 65% potency in the CosRx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Mask, which is also a cult favorite on Reddit. And, it's less than $15.

https://www.amazon.com/Cosrx-Ultimate-Nourishing-Rice-Overnight/dp/B01518D84U

Lastly, I saw sodium hyaluronate, or hyaluronic acid, in both the serum and cream, so if I were you, I'd invest in the cult favorite, Hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion. I have the Premium version, and it really is wonderful and leaves your skin firm and hydrated, and is a great way to get in extra moisture before your cream.
Hada Labo Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist, 5.7 fl. oz. (170ml) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BSNBO9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_EZa8ybAC6S473

A final note: since your skin is sensitive, I would stay away from any artificial fragrance or irritants in any products. Hada Labo and Cosrx are both fragrance free companies that only use what they need to make the product effective. Again, check your ingredients at CosDna as well as reviews. Also many of these products are available cheaper on some other websites, I just chose who came up first. Generally, SokoGlam is a safer bet than Amazon because you won't get a fake product, but it's also slightly more expensive.

I know this is a long post but I also know how daunting the search for good, affordable skincare can be. Also, don't forget to wear sunscreen. There's no point in getting so many products just to negate their effects with UVA damage.

Best of Luck! <3

Great!

When picking something with salicylic acid in it you'll want to start out gentle if you haven't really used it in the past. Don't go over something that claims to contain more than 2% salicylic acid.

These ones by Stridex are popular and easy to get: https://www.amazon.ca/Stridex-Salicylic-Maximum-Strength-Packaging/dp/B000NUN8BK/ref=pd_sim_121_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=3WTHS1W2HEMFG7D9K8SR

I have also used these by First Aid Beauty: https://www.sephora.com/product/clear-complexion-pads-P411873?skuId=1856939&icid2=first_aid_beauty_lp_whatsnew_carousel_ca:p411873

And I've heard great things about these ones by COSRX, a Korean skincare brand: http://jolse.com/product/cosrx-one-step-original-clear-pad-70ea/4363/?cate_no=371&display_group=1

Use these products after cleansing, but before moisturizing (and you absolutely should moisturize every time you cleanse, and especially if you are using products like these!). Do not use any of these everyday. At first it might feel like you're not getting anything done by not using them often, but in the long run it is way better to respect your skins moisture barrier by being gentle with chemical exfoliation than to dry your skin out. Start out by using them just every two days and then maybe move on to every other day if your skin does not seem to be getting dry. Again, really focus it on your problem area if the rest of your face is happy and clear.

Moving on to spot treatments, here are the two I've found to work for me.
Clean & Clear (contains benzoyl peroxid): https://www.amazon.com/Clean-Clear-Persa-Gel-Treatment-Medication/dp/B00KZ22ED4/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1511920947&sr=8-3&keywords=clean+and+clear+benzoyl

LUSH Grease Lightning (contains tea tree oil): https://www.lush.ca/en/face/cleansers/grease-lightning/02896.html

Put a generous amount right the zit after moisturizing. Some people put a thin layer and leave it on during the day, but I've always found it ends up looking flaky and weird.

Pimple patches have also started to gain popularity recently. They started out mostly as an Asian Beauty thing I believe and now their making their way over to some western stores as well. They're basically these packages that contain some sort of something (science) that draws the gunk out of your skin. Put them on before bed and in the morning you wake up with a lumpy yuck-filled sticker! Here are some options for those as well.
COSRX: http://jolse.com/product/cosrx-acne-pimple-master-patch-24-patches-10-sheets/7765/?cate_no=371&display_group=1

Nexcare (I've started seeing these ones in North American pharmacies): https://www.amazon.ca/Nexcare-Absorbing-Covers-Sizes-Count/dp/B00ISN35OO/ref=pd_sim_194_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=J2TMQDKY2PFRHGETPNEQ

WOW THIS GOT LONG.

Don't get discouraged if takes some trial and error, everyone's face reacts differently to different products. Above all else remember to start slow and gentle with new skincare products. Good luck!

My acne is not as severe as yours, so I don't know if what I do would help you but we can give it a shot, right?

  • I use CeraVe Foaming Cleanser in both mornings and nights to wash my face
  • I don't use a BHA anymore
  • I do use AHA, Alpha Hydrox 10% Glycolic in both morning and night
  • I use a Salicylic Acid Peel 20% once a week, so far it has helped, I've only used it for two weeks
  • After the peel, I use a MBD Black Pearl mask, mainly because it's soothing and very moisturizing, which is perfect after a peel.
  • I moisturize with Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream. People here vastly recommend CeraVe Moisturizing Cream because it has ceramides and it's pretty good.
  • For sunscreen, I tried Cetaphil Dermacontrol, it's too oily and I didn't like it because it stung my eyes. I tried L'Oreal Ideal Moisture with SPF, didn't like it because it was heavy. I tried both Biore Aqua Rich and Biore Perfect Face Milk I loved both thoroughly; they are light, milky, smooth, they feel great on the skin and stay matte like it's nobodies business.
  • I use the Thayer Cucumber Witch Hazel toner. No reason in special for the cucumber aside from me loving how it smells. It has helped me some with redness and inflammation.

My routine is as it follows:

    AM

  • Cleanse with CeraVe
  • Apply Witch Hazel toner
  • After it dries, apply AHA, wait for it to absorb 20 min
  • Apply Cetaphil Moisturizer
  • Apply sunscreen
  • Makeup if any

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    PM

  • Remove makeup and sunscreen with Pond's Cold Cream cleanser
  • Wash with CeraVe
  • Apply witch hazel
  • Apply AHA
  • Moisturize

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Every Friday night each week

  • Wash with CeraVe
  • Clean face with rubbing alcohol (my face is super oily)
  • Apply Salicylic acid peel for 2:00 min
  • Rinse acid
  • Apply my beauty diary sheet mask for 20 min
  • Moisturize with Cetaphil
  • Apply thin layer of Aquaphor

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

And that's it, my skin has gotten way better and something that has also helped millions is that I went on the pill, since my acne is hormonal.

Remember to patch test and to not abuse your skin, the gentler the better!!!! There are things that might or might not work for you, it takes a while to find what's best for your skin. If nothing works, you can always try PocketDerm or a dermatologist around your area, don't be afraid to ask for professional help. Good luck!

Of course! Here's my list of products with a short review of them along with price.

Benton Steam Cream. This steam cream is a great cream to put on after any toners/ampoules but before any heavier moisturizers (the philosophy of skin care layering is put on the thin stuff first and heavy stuff last). I really like this product, it helps with redness and acne-prone areas. This isn't a spot treatment for acne though, FYI. $13.99 on Prime

Mizon Acne Pink Spot: This is what I use for spot treatments on a zit. The important thing to note about this product is that you should let the layers settle. You should see a slightly clear yellow liquid at the top and an opaque pink at the bottom. I think the pink is calamine lotion. I take a Q-tip and put this on any breakout I have before I go to bed. This has helped minimize the size of those pesky pimples that haven't come to a head. I bought this 4 months ago and I barely made a dent in it. $14.33

Biore sunscreen. Ya'll. If you don't buy anything else, just make sure you buy sunscreen. It doesn't have to be this one, but sunscreen is probably the BEST thing you can do for your skin. Do it everyday, even in winter. Especially if you use any sort of actives like BHA or AHA or retinoids. I use Differin at night and Stridex in the morning and I always slather on this sunscreen. It has a lemon scent and it doesn't leave a whitecast because this is a chemical sunscreen instead of a physical sunscreen. Please keep in mind this sunscreen has alcohol in it to help it dry quickly so if your skin is alcohol sensitive, I recommend patch testing to be careful. $19.99 for a 2 pack.

TonyMoly Panda Dream Brightening Eye Stick: I'm blessed with very thin skin under my eyes so any missing minutes in my 8hour sleep routine will immediately show up on my eyes. This stick is great for helping brighten up that area in the morning. Use it as a primer under makeup. $6

This section is for makeup:

Sulwashoo Cushion A little pricey on the upfront cost but the refills are signifcantly cheaper once you get the container. I love this makeup. I'm not a fan of full coverage foundations so I skew more towards BB creams, but this is a nice cushion that give a tiny bit more coverage but still make your skin look like you're not wearing makeup. I use Medium Pink. Cute little container and it came with another refill cushion. $39.00

Skinfood Peach Sake Finishing Powder: Ok here me out. I actually use this product, which is labelled as a finishing powder for your makeup, as a dry shampoo. It's seriously the best dry shampoo I've used. I use a kabuki brush and dust it on to my oily roots and it dries up the oil without the powdered wig look, wasting half an aersol can, or the "dry shampoo smell". THIS SMELLS LIKE PEACHES, YA'LL. This box of finishing powder has been with me since February and it's not even half empty. I've never had a dry shampoo spray last that long for me. Get on this. $7.97

That's all for now! My laptop is about to die. :)

The Korean brand COSRX makes some great, sensitive products with AHA and BHA. Using products with tea tree oil might help, but be wary of anything that could potentially alter your hormone profile. The basics of Korean skin care are consistent, everyday use of a clear step-by-step process. I suggest this site for how-to.

You don't need every step necessarily, but I would start slowly with 3-4 and build up slowly as to not agitate your skin. The important ones for you are going to be the two part cleansing, toning, essence, spot treatments and ampules, and light moisturizer-- so about six of the steps or so.

Here are some things that I find help, and seem to be very popular for acne prone skin. I have used all these, as well as my sensitive, acne prone DH and had success:

  1. Acne Patches

  2. A good toner with BHA & AHA

  3. A good essence/light moisturizer

  4. Good oil free moisturizer

  5. Good water-base face wash 1, and good face wash set with oil cleanser and water based cleanser, good oil based with added makeup removing

  6. Good spot treatment

  7. Some fun and cheap masks that sooth and treat your skin. I recommend one a week. Either Sephora or Tonymoly make some good ones.

Finally, be very careful ordering similar "discount" products off amazon because it is rife with counterfeits from China. This can be dangerous as the contents of the product/ingredients are not necessarily listed correctly, which is a problem. Buying reputable brands from verified sellers or soko glam or Sephora is absolutely recommended. I get a lot of Amazon, but I always use Fakespot.com and also check the seller out carefully. If the well-known brand manufacturer is selling it direct to Amazon, that is a pretty safe bet.

All of these thing start with the skin down, but also consider the bottom up. Look at your diet, look at your activity level, how often you clean your sheets, how stressed you are, and your general health. Have you been evaluated for gynecological or endocrine issues? It's a good idea to know that before you jump to conclusion. Make sure to consult a doctor, because sometimes our skin is a good indication of something off inside.

Good luck and I am sorry you are suffering!

>What is your normal routine?

After washing and moisturizing (below), my usual routine is BB cream, contouring^1, concealer^2 (maybe you are missing this?), brows^1, eyeshadow primer, eyeshadow, tight line (I have hooded eyes), mascara (looks like you're missing this, too?), lip liner, then a pink lip color.

^1 Not necessary if you're just starting out, IMO

^2 Sometimes set my concealer with powder after its done, depending on how oily my face feels that day.

I'd say my everyday face takes about 20-25 minutes, but I'm also pretty practiced at it at this point.

> How did you get there?

If you are bare bones beginner, the first thing I would recommend is to get to know yo face! What shape face do you have? | What is your skin tone and undertone? | What shape are your eyes? Get to know your eye color as well and what looks good with it. Know thyself!

Then, I would go to Sephora or MAC and get matched to a face product. I really can't emphasize enough how much this was helpful to me. You can also ask them about your foundation falling off and see what they recommend.

Then, after that, it's a careful combination of stalking MUA, stalking Pinterest, and practice and getting feedback. Uploading pics to this sub (and /r/sugarfreemua) has been SO HELPFUL to me.

>Do you wash your face at night or in the morning or in the shower or is everyone just keeping some secret from me? I am starting to think people secretly reapply makeup 4x a day just to mess with my head.

I shower at night, so I wash my face in the shower and then moisturize right after that. Sometimes I also moisturize right before I put on makeup as well. It just depends on how my skin is feeling. But basically, moisturize moisturize.

Regardless of when you shower, you should always, always ALWAYS take your makeup off before going to sleep. Sleeping in makeup is terrible for your skin. Personally, I recommend Neutrogena makeup remover wipes.. They are a godsend.

>I don't have the confidence to do colored shadows or crazy eyeliner. Am I just too chicken?

Nah. I just ordered my first color palette—that shit takes time and work! I'd definitely stick with neutrals and pinks if you don't feel confident enough. Then upgrade to color stuff when you feel more comfortable. But it's totally not necessary to have bold eye colors to do good makeup. I love my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, but others here really like the Lorac Pro for neutrals. They are pricy, but worth it, IMO. For my daily look, I just throw a bunch of the shade "Liar" on my lid and above my crease and hit the road. It's great.

>ALSO... by noon my makeup is all gone. I don't touch my face often and I use primer. WTF???

This is not a problem I experience, but a lot of people with the same problem swear by the Wayne Goss method of applying foundation.

I also cannot recommend getting eyeshadow primer enough. It has changed my life.

I would also recommend getting a waterproof eyeliner and mascara if you're having problems with it coming off. I like using gel eyeliner and an angled brush because it gives me more control, but others here swear by the Stila Stay All Day liquid pen. I just got it and am working on learning how to use it. It sounds like your skin might be more oily than you know? I have a big problem with non-waterproof eyeliner coming off of me, so I've got some practice there.

>Budget: HA! Right now, not much. But I can splurge about $100 after the holidays. Right now I am working with mostly drugstore stuff.

Okay. I think I can get you started with some good stuff for under $100. :cracks knuckles:

IMO, when you're starting out, I would splurge on your face product and your eyeshadow. So:

  • Go to Sephora and get matched for a foundation. Pick up a foundation OR BB cream for $35/$38, depending on what kind of coverage you're looking for. I have Tarte's BB cream and Amazonian clay foundation, and I love both of them.

  • Get yourself a good neutral eyeshadow palette. The Urban Decay Naked palettes are $54. Work with a Sephora lady and get a good one for your skintone. If you don't want to spend that much, you can get a Naked Basics for $29

  • Pick up a drug store mascara if you don't have one. Folks around here swear by CoverGirl ClumpCrusher. It's $8. I myself have been using Maybelline Lash Stiletto which is $9. The waterproof version is no joke. I shower in hot water and scrub my face with soap and that shit goes nowhere.

  • Pick up a drug store concealer. I used L'Oreal True Match concealer for years and years and it's done me well. It's $9

  • Finally, get a good neutral lipstick. I would talk to the Sephora lady and try a few on. If you go the cheaper route, you've got a little bit of wiggle room to get a nice lipstick at $22 I cannot recommend Urban Decay's Naked series enough. If you're running low on cash, pick out a shade that you want and do some searching for a duplicate. Drug store lipsticks typically run $8

So, if you go with the most expensive items on the list, you're looking at $129 and the cheapest will be $92. I hope that gives you a good range to work with. I think these are good basics to start with, and if you want to explore more, you'll be able to!

Your face is a canvas and the make-up is like paint. Think about painting in layers if that helps.

That being said, here's my recommendation. You skin is your canvas so you gotta take care of it. Pay attention to your body/skin, everyone is different so use what is working for you. Exfoliate regularly, exfoliating helps clear up pores and scrub away dead skin. I do it daily, again do as much as your own skin needs to. My pores tend to clog easily so I try my best to keep it clean. I use something like this, just a slightly rougher bath sponge, squeeze a little face wash on it and lightly scrub - again this is what I do, your mileage may vary.

Regardless of how oily your skin is, moisturize it. If you have naturally oilier skin like me, use a lighter moisturizer (it feels lighter on your skin not as thick or creamy). conversely, use a heavier moisturizer if you tend to have dry skin. It doesn't necessarily have to be a "face moisturizer" product, lotions work also i've noticed. The point of all this is you want a clean and hydrated skin, it looks younger and healthier. I use, Aveeno's Men's After Shave Lotion. It get's two birds with one stone for me, aftershave plus helps keep my skin hydrated and is on the lighter side (won't feel greasy when it dries.)

The next layer in the painting would be concealer and foundation. Concealers are more pigmented "cover up" work. Using me again, i have slight rosatia/pinkness, concealers help neutralize out the redness to a more even skin tone. Foundation is a less pigmented but does the same thing essentially. Go to a Walgreen's or any drugstore and just look at the color samples. You'll want to color match to your neck so that your general face color blends in with your neck. Taking care of you skin takes time to get but when you get there you shouldn't need much concealer or foundation to even out your face. I like BB Cream No. 23, Natural Biege, matches my color fairly well.

You can pick either of those up or an equivalent product at any drugstore. People won't give you any grief, it's not too common but some males do buy coverup/concealers for acne breakouts so it shouldn't cause too much fuss to buy in person.

As far as applying blush, eyeshadow, liner brows ... the works, it's hard to type out and is best if shown to you. Beating a dead horse, watch the you tube videos and practice putting them on. You WILL get better. I did a quick look through amazon, this Shany Set seems like an okay kit. It has a various color pots to play/practice with. (color pot, the little containers that the actual make up sits in.) Your small round pots are your eyeshadows and the large round ones are your blushes. It looks like it comes with the applicators too, the fancy q-tip looking things are for eyeshadows and the bristle brush for blush. It also has the standard black and brown pencil eye liner, a pencil lip liner, lipstick and some nailpolish.

When it's all said and done, you've read all that you can or watched all the videos you've cared to watch. My best advice I can give you is take care of your skin and practice. Keep putting it on, get a feel for it and learn how certain things get applied. Eyeliner for example, you need to get used to the fact that there's something that close to your eye when you're trying to put it on. With time and practice it gets easier, your hand gets steadier and your eyes don't flinch as much.

Not my best nor my worst, but here's where i'm at on a typical day. http://i.imgur.com/C1vPsxg.jpg

Lastly, baby wipes or makeup remover wipes is good for taking it all off and these on a cotton swab is good to remove eyeliner without any trace.

I used to have the worst dry skin and honestly, some foundations do make it worse but if your base is good you can wear pretty much anything.

What changed the game for me:

  • Purpose Face soap, its gentle and it got rid of my flakes. I can hardly use any face washes, it was recommended to me and I feel I need to pass it on!

  • Vaseline at night! Its my jam! Its so slimey and gross feeling, but it "holds" in moisture over night and makes my skin feel wonderful in the morning.

  • Wayne Goss Method Basically, I do moisturizer (no primer, because my skin doesnt care for any I've tried, and this method does make my foundation last all day alone) then powder, then foundation. I think its really super for dry skin because a good moisturizer is a real solid part of this, and the foundation isnt really touching your skin (back to my, "use whatever you want" comment)
For the powder, I use WnW Reserve your cabana, it's a matte highlight but it's finely milled and having the slight highlight under my foundation makes me look really naturally lit from within. My husband noticed immediately and said I looked luminous; it's a pretty awesome thing to try.

To specifically answer the foundation question, I really like the original L'Oreal True Match in the little bottle. Its very smooth, its a rare yellow drugstore option (if you need that), and it looks really natural. I'm a convert, and it's cheap /shrug

First of all, I am an employee at a major western beauty retailer in none other than the field of skin care. I am very familiar with ingredients and quite savvy at building skin care routines to fit my clients' needs... and I'm proud of it. That being said, I've found that many of the products my employer offers are too harsh or contain ingredients I don't agree with; in addition, we don't sell a huge variety of AB, at least not enough to satisfy my liking.

SOOOO, this is kind of new territory for me. I know one thing for a fact: I LOVE love LOVE snail. Below, I have a tentative list of AB products I have researched and have added to my Amazon.com cart and would love to hear from this community about my choices. I would love to hear recommendations as well. Below, I'll list the products by AM or PM routine (as I've planned).

A little background:

Hello~ I've been stalking the Korean beauty industry for years, but have never committed due to random reasons. I want to try my hand at it next year (need to use up my stupidly expensive Sephora products). Here's a routine I created - mostly from Snow White & The Pear's reviews. For the record, I have eczema (thanks god, no flares right now) and sensitive (contact allergies), oily skin. I know. How can I have eczema and oily skin? OTL

u/-katekiko · 2 pointsr/AsianBeauty

Hi guys, I've been loving AB for about a year now but I haven't stuck to one routine for more than a few months at a time, mainly due to travel and addiction to trying new things 😅 I'm sorry for the epic novel to follow, skip to the bottom if you want. I'm just so tired of dealing with crap skin!

I've had a horrible breakout in the last few months on my back that I can't seem to shake. I don't know why. I got back on the pill after being off it for several months in the hopes of fixing the breakout; it's helping a little but I'm only just starting my second month back on the pill so it might take a while to see results.

Of more concern to me is a new cystic breakout along my jawline--I haven't had such sore acne in years. I'm 19 and I've gotten my acne a lot better under control thanks to the pill and PocketDerm (don't like the name Curology lol) but I've dealt with it in varying forms of severity since like 6th grade.

Before the cysts (bear with me here!) were all these closed comedones, as well as tiny white marks on my face--some raised, some not--which are either CCs or scars, I'm not sure. I plan to eventually get laser treatment because I hate the texture of my skin and all the PIH I have but I want to make sure I'm stopping new breakouts before I spend a ton of money on treating old scars.

So basically I've stripped down my routine to complete, tried and true basics in the hopes of not irritating my skin and making sure nothing's breaking me out. And yet I have like three whiteheads on one side of my face near my mouth and cystic acne on my jawline and near my temples. Nothing has changed in my lifestyle, I haven't added anything new to my routine...please give me any ideas or product suggestions!

TLDR my skin is somewhat freaking out, may be hormonal but I want help setting up a routine to help my moisture barrier, acne, and PIH

I have sensitive skin so these might be too mild for you, but I wash my face with purpose gentle cleansing wash. I find a lot of face soaps are intended for oily or combo skin and irritate my face, but this one is gentle, does its job, and keeps my skin clear.

I moisturize every morning with nivea soft moisturizing creme I'm not sure if it will be hydrating enough for your case, but I swear by this stuff.

It might be worth putting on vaseline at night, as a lot of moisturizers have alcohol in them and can make dry patches worse!

EDIT: Forgot to include makeup I like. I really love Maybelline's bb cream, also their Fit me Dewy Foundation but unfortunately I am allergic to one ingredient in this foundation and it makes me break out. Might work for you! Loreal True Match Lumi is also a really good drug store foundation for dry skin, it's medium coverage though.

High end foundation I like is Lancome Teint Idole when I need lots of coverage or don't want to look dewy. I have to apply this with a damp beauty sponge though or it won't go on well. I use Real Technique's Sponge but most drug store sponges have gotten better in quality! I would recommend getting one of these and using it to apply every foundation you try as you will probably have better results than with a brush!

I'll give some suggestions, but you'll have to look on your own for ingredients.

For cleanser, Clean It Zero or Clean It Zero Purity is something to look into.

Hada Labo, which you use already does have a range of other products, so you can look at those. They have a cleanser as well. Here's the US version. There's a Japanese one too.

You may want to look into the Innisfree Minimum line. There aren't a lot of ingredients. Do a search here for "minimum."

You seem to like the snail product, so maybe look into some other snail products. Mizon makes some popular ones. Benton may also be a line you might be interested in. There's an aloe BHA line and a snail bee line.

Some other brands that I have come across with a more "natural" focus are Boscia and Klair from Wishtrend. Here's a Boscia cleanser and here's their beauty oil.

Since you mentioned masks, here are some that look interesting. Klairs Rich Moist Mask

Here's another brand you might be interested in:
http://www.peachandlily.com/collections/cremorlab

Non AB, I tested a couple Andalou products recently and they were nice.

I have sensitive skin as well, but you have a lot of ingredients you want to avoid. It's going to be a little bit of a challenge. Just keep in mind that not everything that's organic or herbal is good for sensitive skin.

u/scarieb · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Well, everyone's skin reacts differently but I'll let you know what I've used and had success with.

The Face Shop Light Cleansing Oil - really great and affordable for starting out w/ a cleansing oil

Pond's Cold Cream - love but required me to use microfiber wash cloths and made too much laundry because it didn't emulsify and rinse easily

Fresh Seaberry Cleansing Oil - currently using but I bought some off eBay bc of the cost

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm - probably what I will try next; receives a lot of love around this sub

I just posted this in another bacne-related thread but I'll post it here too. I've finally gotten the acne on my face to go away (after 15 years) by using Garden of Wisdom products in which the products were personally recommended by their team after seeing pictures of my skin. I highly recommend going that route for your face acne (email them requesting an email consultation). I'm still suffering from pretty moderately bad bacne. It's the bane of my existence. I can't wear most of my summer wardrobe.

I've been using this salicylic acid body wash with no real improvement. Last week I started a new routine with organic apple cider vinegar, this benzoyl peroxide body wash, and this salicylic acid spray. Since starting this, so far the bumps have gone down and I've only had one active pimple. Who knows if it's going to work but it seems to be drying out my back enough to keep things at bay without being too harsh. Now if only the scars can fade before June.

Here's my routine:

  • Shower in the AM, benzoyl peroxide wash and let it sit on my skin for a minute or two (I only use this wash every couple days since it's pretty drying). Make sure I don't get any conditioner on my back.

  • Right after I shower, I use a cotton pad to use the apple cider vinegar on my back sort of like a toner

  • Then I spray the salicylic acid spray and let it dry

  • Sometimes at night if I've been really active during the day (riding my bike with a heavy backpack on), I'll use the apple cider vinegar on my back again before I go to bed.

Maybe in a month or two I'll have a positive update for you!

Why not try a daily microecfoliant like srb exfoliate powder that has mild enzymes to help eat away the dead skin flakes. Dermamogica also has one called daily microscrub or something and it’s so mild you can..... use it daily.

I bet it’s the fact that skin is building up over time. What would it hurt to try a mild exfoliant? Not the kind with grains or beads, sand, grit. I am talking very mild can be used daily. Especially if your skin is sensitive you want to avoid anything even moderately abrasive.

  • srb exfoliating powder
  • farmacy take the day off I think it’s called, powder
  • kanebo exfoliating powder cubes (my #1, enzyme plus other goodies).
  • dermalogica daily microfoliant
  • dermalogica daily supermicrofoliant (AHA, enzymes, niacinamide, charcoal) anti-pollution powder
  • tacha rice powder ($$$)

These are just a few off the top of my head.

Also, Clarisonic is a godsend. Neutrogena has a knockoff with these buffing pads that I was going to pick up. The whole kit is $15 or so on amazon and the pads are like $10 or something refills. They look sort of abrasive but personally it’s what I need for Retin a because my skin flakes and I need daily exfoliation or else my makeup is completely flaked off by mid day— especially my laugh lines and stuff. The makeup just disappears around my nose and mouth.

Clarisonic or electric brushes work amazing with any product really, but most definitely the powders listed above. If you can’t get your paws on those, I recommend muslin cloth and microfiber baby wash cloths to have around. Buy a 10 pack of muslin clothes, and a 8-10 of the baby are $5 at Walmart so I pick up 3 packs since they stain and I go through them. Every couple weeks I pick up a new pack. They’re great for getting face wash off when I don’t wanna use Clarisonic, and muslin cloths are heaven sent. They help exfoliant, are wet yet... sort of dry? If that makes sense.

  • Clarisonic
  • neutrogena cleansing brush
  • muslin cloths (10/$6.99)
  • microfiber baby washcloths (12/$10)

You look great. But get a piece of paper, man. A well stocked house is important (don't play on bluetooth speakers lmao, mildly nsfw).

Here's my advice:

Get a haircut that makes more sense for your head shape. You have a slightly big forehead. Not an enormous forehead, though! It's about normal sized, only slightly larger than average. But the hair style is really emphasizing that otherwise minor fact.

As for acne, here's the process I use and it pretty much got rid of all of my acne. I used to have acne exactly like you.

  1. In the shower, use these three products: product 1, product 2, product 3. They need to be rinsed off, so it's easiest to do in the shower.
  2. After your shower, apply a 10% benzoyl peroxide acne treatment, in a pea-sized amount. Get the good stuff-- it is very different from the cheap stuff. Trust me, i've tried both. And if you use a pea-sized amount once or twice daily, it'll last a few months. Don't rinse this stuff off. If you get skin irritation, keep doing it for a few days. If it doesn't go away, stop use.
  3. Throughout the day, keep your skin clean! This is super important. Use witch hazel for this. It's cheap and it'll make your skin feel amazing.

I'm sure some of these steps aren't nessecary, but this was the routine that I developed. Since it works crazy good, it's a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" kind of thing. If you don't want to invest in ALL of the aforementioned products, then you could probably get away with just 10% benzoyl peroxide scrub + 10% benzoyl peroxide treatment + witch hazel.

Anyways, you're like a 5.5 / 10 right now. 5 is average. So that puts you slightly above average. Deal with acne and get a better hair style and you're easily a 6.5 / 10, which means attractive.
u/MarieJo94 · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Hi there. So I would start really simple - cleanser, toner, moisturizer in the AM and PM. I can recommend you some products since I also have oily acne-prone skin, but the unfortunate reality is that what works for some people doesn't work for others. You're probably going to have to experiment with it yourself. Also most of the products I use aren't available in the US (German brand).

A couple of pointers when it comes to ingredients in those products:

- avoid anything with silicones (they usually end in -cone on the ingredient list)
- avoid non-fatty alcohols (usually it just says alcohol or alcohol denat. or ethanol in the ingredient lists). They're gonna be really drying.
- fatty alcohols (like cetyl alcohol) are good though
- avoid perfum (can irritate skin - sometimes it's hard to avoid though and personally it's not high on my priority list)
- since you have some acne and oily skin I would avoid oils and comedogenic ingredients such as coconut derivatives and butters

Since you don't have a lot of experience with skincare yet, I would keep it simple at first - if your skin doesn't clear up you might want to use a product with salicylic acid or other acne-fighting ingredients at some point, but as I said I would ease into it by just using a simple routine first.

For cleanser I would recommend first only using it at night. Only use it in the morning if you feel overly greasy, you don't want to strip your skin too much. Some cleanser recommendations from the wiki (any of these should work fine for your skin):

u/ayefive · 3 pointsr/konmari

These are my favorite. I started buying them to wipe up my messy baby when she started eating table food, but I've bought 4 new packages since then. They're thin muslin cotton so they dry super quickly and don't mildew like everything else at my house. I use them for bath/face cloths, baby wipes, general cleaning, pretty much everything. They're a little bit flat and scratchy when you get them, but they're totally soft and nice after the first wash and only get better with time. They're also super easy to store because they're so thin. They're naturally a bit wrinkly, so I store them in jars and bowls all around the house. I'm obsessed.

Hi, my female friend made a skin care routine for me. No idea whether it is in the right order and whether what I'm using will benefit me, also what could be included in my routine. I finally want to have clear skin, I've been struggling with acne for 8 years now

I'm from the UK 21y male, still suffering from occasional acne but I think this time is the retinol and white spots. Mainly the issues are on my cheeks. This is how it looks right now. https://imgur.com/a/iA6aOYv I have been using this routine for about a week now and seeing little improvements. My skin type: oily

I've only ever used 3 but I can recommend all of them. Secret Key Lemon D-Toc (which I think was reformulated into this), a sample of Missha Super Aqua, and Nature Republic Super Aqua Max, which is the one I'm using right now. (Names of the last two are weirdly similar I just realized, what's so super about water?) Anyway you apply all of them on dry face and start massaging it around. They all start balling up within seconds so you don't need to rub it around like crazy. Nature Republic and Secret Key are both equally gentle while Missha is a bit more abrasive, because it's not just a gel that pills up, it actually contains some tiny flour-like(?) particles that aid in exfoliation. Stay away if your skin is sensitive. None of them irritated my skin though and they all left it baby soft. I say for the price they're worth a try! You can probably find them all for even cheaper on other sites like Jolse or eBay. I got the last one for less than 10 dollars I think.

Hi, I used to suffer from cystic acne when I was a teenager for several years. Needless to say that wasn't pleasant. In fact, it was so unpleasant that at time I would pop these cysts that would leave deep scarring on my face, which resulted in uneven skin surface, bumps and holes scattering all over the place (attached photo is not the best resolution so it doesn't show the true extent of the issue). I also (currently) suffer from large pores on the nose and around the cheeks, along with many many blackheads on the nose.

About 3 years ago I went to a dermatologist and got myself some Acutane medication. It worked wonderfully. I stopped having cysts and felt very happy about myself. It was a major boost in confidence, going from several huge zits on the face at any given time/day to one per month or none at all.

That said, because of all of the damage done when I was younger, my skin now looks rather "botched". I would like to get some advice from you guys on how I should go about improving my skin to the smooth and tight condition it was once in. I did try micro-dermabration treatment at this expensive spar 3 times during the last 3 years (each costs $400) because I was desperate, but it didn't do much. And I'm only making enough to live pay cheque by pay cheque now so I'd rather develop a self sustainable routine.

My current (very simple) routine is as follows:

They're the most common to find (at least 1 of these in every major subway stop, I'd say) stores, imo. If there is a brand you want outside of these, you'll need to figure out where physically it is in Seoul because otherwise your friend probably won't find it (unless they speak fluent Korean).

I'd say if you are really that curious, you can just look up pricing online. I will take Skinfood's Egg White Pore Foam as an example. (Even though Skinfood is a particularly common k-brand in the US, imo.) Ulta sells it for $11.00 and Amazon sells it for $9.99 (currently). RoseRose has it normally prices for ₩9,000 but currently has it on sale for ₩5,850 (but you have to pay shipping).

If you look at the Korean Skinfood website, it is normally priced ₩9000 in stores and is currently on sale for ₩6300 (these prices include tax. yay Korea!). So depending on how your normally buy your stuff, and what you're buying, it may or may not be worth it to you. I'd do a bit of research and compile a list/map for my friend that way it's as easy as possible for someone who is going out of their way for you. :)

I know that when I hit up Korea, I usually like to do three things: get in on the 10+10 sheet mask deals and stock up, go to the stores which are harder to access product in the US (aka Nature Republic & they goddamn amazing aloe products), and buy new products that are limited edition/that wouldn't have tried otherwise because of price.

Skin Type: Normal/Dry | Country/Climate I'm in: NYC | Top Skin Concern: Keeping skin hydrated, keeping pores small, getting rid of acne scars

Current Routine/Products I'm Using:

AM

Splash water on face or use face wash (was using Skinfood Egg White Pore Foam, and just recently switched to Etude House Wonder Pore).

Klairs Supple Preparation Toner

Klairs Vitamin C Drop Serum

Dr.Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass 30+ SPF

PM

Innisfree Olive Cleansing Tissue

Face wash - same as morning, was using Skinfood Pore Foam, now using Etude House Wonder Pore

Klairs toner (same as above)

Klairs Vitamin C drop (same as above)

Innisfree Wine Jelly Sleeping Pack

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]... Wondering if my routine can be critiqued! I want to work more on fading acne scars, so I think I need a stronger vitamin C serum than the Klairs one, if anyone has a recommendation. Also, if I use a stronger one, should I not use it in the morning because then I get sun exposure? Also definitely looking for a good exfoliator to use a couple times a week - I do not have one. I also really want to work on getting plump, dewy, glowing skin. My skin right now feels kinda blah. I've recently starting using this propolis sheet mask which is working great.

I ordered the cleanser and cloths on a whim and really liked it, I actually repurchased a second time. You can buy extra muslin cloths on Amazon, and if anything ill incorporate using those in my nighttime routine long term. As far as the cleanser, it's really nice but pretty pricey. Did not dry out my skin at all and make up vanished (including mascara altho you have to get after it with the cloth a little bit. I generally use eye makeup remover but no one's perfect every day lol). I'd love to hear how you find the toner and masks! I'm a mask addict.

About: Young lad, live in [very] hot environment (Soon to move out, <1year) and lead an active lifestyle. Crazy beakouts couple years ago coupled with cocaine hands got my face fucked up for life.

Location: UAE, will be buying my shit from Amazon US and shipping it here. Don't worry too much about this unless you know some local stuff that's of appropriate price.

///Routine

Cleanser:
Went with the recommendations and chose Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser, 12oz. Best price, ships here, generally well received. Not much.

Moisturizer:
Went with CeraVe Moisturizing Cream w/ Pump, 16z. Good price, ships, got a pump (Hey!), well received. Same old.

Sunscreen:
Sweat a lot and lead an active lifestyle, so need a waterproof sunscreen for the morning-noon/school period. Considered a lot of options, but I constricted it to these as they are the only ones that are waterproof, ship here and are priced reasonably (Not so).
However, I will surely not get anything with Octinoxate due to it's link with Endocrine disturbances (Something which I need very less of, especially currently) and all. Will also not get the All-Chemical Paula's Choice because it's just fucked.
That leaves the EltaMD and the CeraVe. The CeraVe has a greasy texture that doesn't go away (Or so they say) and leaves a very pronounced white tint, and the EltaMD has better UVA protection and is tinted to somewhat my skin tone, so I decided to get it. If you have any suggestions/recommendations/etc., please do drop them below.

Exfoliant:
Went with a BHA cause it's simpler and is recommended for oily skin. Problem is I'm afraid Stridex Maximum Strength Pads will be too harsh and unusable (Big no-no, can't return it and shipping rates are crazy).
Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Defense Face Lotion, 1.7oz and Olay Age Defying Classic Night Cream, 2oz ship here too but I don't know man.

OCM:
To remove waterproof sunscreen not else. Found this quite cheap baby oil called Corine De Farme Baby Massage Body Oil (Ingredients: Paraffinum Liquidum, Parfum, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil), but I honestly don't know anything about this so I just want some input.

I was about to start a thread for skin care recs!!! Thanks OP.

More specifically, I was hoping for some tips/recs because I'm interested in building a "skincare routine." My skin has been pretty bleh lately. I'm going through some big changes right now so I imagine it's partially the stress and frequent crying (lol) but also partially because I'm getting older and not doing much for my skin. Right now all I do is cleanse and moisturize because I honestly don't know what else to do. I currently use Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Facial Cleanser (what a mouthful) which I like. Then I moisturize with CeraVe AM/PM - these are fine I guess but I don't love them, I only keep using them because a lot of moisturizers make my eyes burn and these do not (I've tried figuring out the cause for years now with no luck, it's not like I'm putting things IN my eyes lol).

Some other notes:
- Combination skin, but leaning more towards oily.
- Acne-prone, but not overwhelmingly so.
- Uneven skin tone from lots of bad breakouts as a teenager.
- Not sure if age matters when picking products, but I'm 27!
- Sorry if this is too picky, but I really don't like using products you have to scoop out of jars/tubs. I have long nails and products just get stuck under them hahah.

Sorry for the entire novel on my skin. I know it's asking a lot but if anyone could recommend some things I'd really appreciate it!

u/gabe_miller83 · 2 pointsr/Accutane

AM - Use any gentle face wash, however I recommend this Neutrogena one, works like a charm. Then I use my AM CeraVe Moisturizer and that’s it.

And in the PM - Use any gentle face wash, however I recommend this Neutrogena one, then I use my PM Moisturizer and a layer of Vaseline as an occlusive on top of that. I don’t recommend using Vaseline during your am routine unless you wanna be shiny all day.

My skin stays moist and never peels during the day, I recommend this routine.

Just realized this wasn’t a product recommendation thread..

u/anu_yorker · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Really did help! Just bought CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser. I hear a lot of good things about Paula's Choice as well. Expensive, but if it is effective, I'll take it... Also, if you're looking for a moisturizer, check this out: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001E96ORO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It is recommended on the routine page for moisturizers and is a pretty good price.

Issue: acne breakouts among face, neck, chest, and back

Skin type: combination, very oily T-zone

Current routine:

AM: Cleanse with kaolinite clay, BP wash on face, Selsun Blue on body. Moisturize face with Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion and Murad Oil and Pore Control. Moisturize body with Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion or B&BW Body Cream

PM: Same as morning. Night face moisturizer is just Cerave Night Cream.

Now, this routine is working pretty well, and I definitely attribute that to the Murad products. I was wondering if there was anything similar that I could use for my body and/or in place of the Cerave Night Cream. One thing I noticed was that the Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion has retinol in it and I feel like that makes the biggest difference for me. Any combination of products doesn't seem to work as well if there isn't some sort of retinoid present.

Ur skin story sounds exactly like mine! Until about a year ago I had given up because I just couldn't win with my skin. After I found a combination of products I finally was able to conquer my Oil and reduce it up to 50%! Other then the skin care kit these links are to just slow the product, u can get them almost anywhere if u have a Walmart, target, cvs, Ulta, etc. you will find something that works soon enough!

This kit was the holy grail for my skin, I use every products in there regularly and my skin has never been easier to control:

Favorite primer hands down because it still gives you flawless foundation but I don't have new acne at the end of the day:

http://www.elfcosmetics.com/p/blemish-control-primer?dept=face-faceprimer

I put this on before the primer/ when I don't plan on wearing foundation depending on what your plan is for the day:

Honestly, Shoppers Life Brand version of Spectro Gel is amazing - not drying at all and cleans well. I find Spectro has too much silica in it. For cleansing oil I like the Kose oils - this one is really nice, cleans well and rinses off well too.

u/gravelmonkey · 9 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I use First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser to wash (it's so mild, and it's lasted me a while), Julep Love Your Bare Face to remove makeup, Teddy Organics Orange Blossom Toner right after washing to help with my dry skin, and a few drops of Teddy Organics Jojoba Oil to moisturize. If I do get a zit nowadays, it's probably cystic and I use Smile's PRID Drawing Salve to dry it out/heal it.

I'm really happy with the prices of all these products, too. The jojoba oil lasts forever, and I use it on my hair too.

u/ClassySlacks · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I've been having a good experience with Purpose Gentle Face Wash. I was using Neutrogena Ultra Gentle and Aveeno Ultra Calming, Olay Sensitive, but none of them worked really well.
I found most of them too stripping.

Purpose seems to be holding up really well - I like the feel of it. It's slippery/foamy, and slides right off my skin with no residue. It's okay at removing makeup, not the best, but it does the trick for my light foundation. Not so much for my eyeliner. I got mine at CVS, so I think its a pretty common facial cleanser for drugstores.

Hello all,

I was doing a full routine for several weeks straight and suddenly depression hit and I stopped... I plan on continuing and have also bought some new products to try (listed below).

My main issue however is that I can get a flushed look fairly easily. I have been told I need to get checked for Rosatia - I told my mother this and she told me to dab Soy Milk on my face with a cotton ball.

My question is this: Is the Soy Milk truly necessary/helpful? If I were to add it to my routine, at which step would I do this? Do any of the products in my routine take care of the issue enough that this would be repetitive? Are there any products with Soy Milk in them that would match my skin concerns?

Thank you sooooo so much for any help you may provide.

Hello, hello. Your friendly doc here.

Butt sweat is real, and wherever there's sweat, there's bound to be pimples, swelling, and other sorts of skin infections -- even in those of us who clean regularly. Here are some tips, starting with the easiest that you can do and working down to the more difficult that will require the help of a doctor.

  1. Try over-the-counter (OTC) cleanser products like Neutrogena. Ideally you should get the version for dealing with acne. Something like this. It's fairly cheap and you could expect to see results in 2-4 weeks or less depending on how bad it is. You should apply it in the shower as it can be cumbersome to do it in the bath tub. Make sure you really massage it on your butt cheeks -- don't just put it on and rince it off. Massage it on for a good minute or so. If you have someone to help you in the shower, all the better! ;) Sometimes acne is caused from just poor cleanliness habits, and this could do the trick.
  2. If this doesn't help, you can try adding on to the shower cleanser I mentioned above with an anti-acne cream. These lotions come in two flavors: benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. I would go with one that has salicylic acid (since you are using benzoyl peroxide with the shower cleanser). Something like this. Important to note that these are lotions so they should be put on after you get out of the shower and dry off, and the cream shouldn't be washed off but left to dry. The only thing you want to wash after putting it on is your hands, since it can be painful or dangerous to get it in your eyes.
  3. If none of those help, then you should consider seeing your doctor, along with a list of the things you tried (the bottles help too). Your doctor will prescribe you with a more potent gel that is applied to the problem areas (pimples and places that get pimples a lot -- for many people it's the T-zone -- the area between the eyes and between the brows). The one I commonly prescribe is Duac (clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide). You need a prescription for this; you cannot get it over the counter. It is very cheap if you have medical insurance. Skin irritation is a side effect of it, so use it very sparingly. Also, make sure and wear a sunscreen if you're going to spend time outdoors, since benzoyl peroxide raises your risk of burning.
  4. If all else fails, your doctor will provide you with a once daily dose of doxycycline, which you take orally. Since I work with women in my practice (OB/GYN), I rarely prescribe doxycycline or isotretinoin because of the serious birth defects it can cause; women have to get regular pregnancy tests and it can be a problem. So I try not to get to this point. If you're a dude though, isotretinoin is fine.

Just some other things you might find useful and may help in the long term: Always make sure and shower every day and every night with soap and water. Apply a non-comedogenic (non-acne forming) moisturizer to your face and (in your case) your butt cheeks after every shower (you should moisturize every day regardless of whether you have acne, ideally with a sunscreen in it). Avoid wearing tight briefs and opt for boxers instead. Change into a clean pair of underwear every morning.

    Best wishes!

Hello folks! I was hoping for some help on my routine. My skin is okay, but I struggle with hormonal acne, am 28 years old, and generally feel greasy at the end of the day. I don't wear makeup because it makes my acne worse, so I don't have to worry about that. I have combination skin (chin and jawline dry, oily everywhere else).

Morning:

Cleanser: Trader Joe's All-In-One

Toner: Witch Hazel

Serum: Birch Juice Hydro Essence Skin

Vitamin C Serum

Moisturizer: Trader Joe's Nourish Oil-Free

Sunscreen: Neutrogena Clear Face

Evening:

Cleanser: Trader Joe's All-In-One

Mask (2x per week): Aztec Secret (used with ACV)

Toner: Witch Hazel

Serum: Birch Juice Hydro Essence Skin

Retinal: The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 5% in Squalane

Sheet mask (2x week when I use a mask): Whatever is hydrating at CVS

Moisturizer: Trader Joe's Nourish Oil-Free

I have done my absolute best to try to figure out if this is an okay group of products, but skincare is as incomprehensible as finances to me so some help would be appreciated!

Hi All,

I have tons of products but I'm not sure if I'm using them correctly, in the right order, or using too many at one time. Also, some are not AB. Just waiting for them to run out. Also, I have the Mizon 8% AHA and Paula's Choice BHA. When should I be using these in my routine? How often? Please give me your opinions! I have dehydrated skin.

I have Hashimoto's and really dry skin (my scalp is horrible, too). The digestive issues could be a factor, if you're not really absorbing nutrients properly. Paleo is good for you, in-general, but I think it moreso works with "clearing up" skin, like with acne, rosacea, and so-on. I recently started getting into Asian skincare, as they focus on lots of light layers of hydration. My skin used to scale and flake, but now it's nice and soft!

I use a low PH face wash only once a day. Too much cleansing can rid your skin of it's natural oils. I swap between this Cerave cleanser and this Hada Labo one. Then I use this lotion (which is more of like a serum) and this gel moisturizer.

I'd suggest reading into the science behind humectants, occlusives, and emollients. Example, you can use a lotion, but if it doesn't have any type of occlusive ingredients, the product and all the moisture will just evaporate/dissipate; it needs something to seal it in. And as much as Asian skincare seems like a million steps, you can really work with just 3 or so products.

No apology needed! I guess I kind of forgot that this is a real dermatologist and I'm a real patient to him, and what I say/think/feel matters, haha. It was just so easy a process that it seemed like an online quiz that pops out automated results and ships a package, you know?

I have oily skin, which I guess is a factor in this, too, and I forgot to mention in my original response to you :P

Lazy copypasta of his message to me:

  1. Use a cleanser designed for oily skin. Panoxyl 4% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Creamy Wash http://amzn.to/1mPHbrD is a favorite with my patients, as is Clean & Clear Advantage 3-in-1 Exfoliating Cleanser (5%) http://amzn.com/B002UC5ZVA. Topix Benzoyl Peroxide 10% Wash http://amzn.to/1tIUqAl is another more economical option, although higher concentrations of benzoyl peroxide do not necessarily work better, and sometimes can irritate more.

  2. Use an oil-free sunscreen. EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 http://amzn.to/1mGsHz is a good option. If you want a mattifier, try Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 http://amzn.com/B001LNTNGC .
u/ageekyninja · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

What I have learned is the safest, most hard-to-go-wrong thing you can do is go for as gentle of a formula as you possibly can. My boyfriends brother used to get really, really bad acne. Covered his whole entire face. His dermatologist told him to switch to a gentle brand of soap/clenser to cleanse his face daily with. He asked if Purpose by Johnson&Johnson would do: https://www.amazon.com/Purpose-Gentle-Cleansing-6-Ounce-Bottle/dp/B0009RFAPY

because it was already a gentle soap they had laying around the house. She said it would be fine, and it has been great for him compared to the other soaps he has used. Obviously thats not all there is to it when it comes to his routine (it takes a lot to battle skin like his: cutting out milk and sugar, regular exfoliation, perscription medication), but it does help him, and since your skin isnt nearly as bad as his I think using a gentle soap might be sufficient to make a difference for you.

u/MoistDickEnergy · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I bought some cheap muslin washcloths from amazon after using a more expensive one and liking the results. I use once then launder. I’ve had great results. They’re super gentle. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00IBFC874?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

New to Reddit so I apologize in advance if my post looks a bit off.

My first AB purchase was a bottle of Kose White cleansing oil on Oct 1st that I bought off Amazon from the seller Samurai Japan and it finally came last Tuesday. My bottle looks just like the Amazon listing picture.
https://www.amazon.com/KOSE-Softy-White-Cleansing-Pound/dp/B000V2FB7Y/
I'm having trouble getting it to emulsify and wash off clean.I apply 1-2 pumps dry as an oil, massage, and when I add water it turns into a sticky white mess. It feels like trying to wash off a thick layer of Vaseline with water. The only way I have managed to get it off is to wipe it onto a washcloth or a paper towel. I have tried wetting my hands to just add a little water to emulsify and I have tried going all in straight to washing my face both to the same result. I have also tried shaking the bottle. In addition, I have tried adding the cleansing oil to wet hands and it does turn milky and wash off but in between my fingers, which were not as wet, it became the white glue. I have pictures if it helps of my right hand when I applied it dry then added water and it turned white and sticky and of my left hand where I added the oil straight to wet hands and this looks how I believe it should look, milky and non-sticky.
http://imgur.com/a/1xPM0

I haven't been able to find other threads where people have had the same problem so are there any tips to getting this cleansing oil to emulsify, or is it because it spent too long in customs, or did I just get a bad bottle? Thanks for the help.

u/shelvedfiction · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I have the same issues.

You listed that you do not use sunscreen, but if you wear make up, I recommend oil cleansing, that usually helps prevent your skin from over drying, or others have mentioned adding a small amount of oil to your cleanser.

You mentioned non-foaming, but I have heard others on /r/asianbeauty have recommended Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam or Hada Labo Tokyo Hydrating cleanser and said these did not dry them out.

One's that I have tried and that did not dry me out:

Foaming-ish...more like bubbles (all have a ph around 5.5):
Eucerin Baby Wash
Cerave Baby Wash
Skin Fix Cleansing Oil Wash

Non-foaming/Oil Cleansers:
Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Oil
Grain Ferment Cleansing Sherbet
Farmacy Cleansing Oil

For your CC's, try an AHA, but I would be careful using is with tretinoin because it might really dry you out. You could use it just on the spots where you have CC's or alternate using it with your tretinoin.

Maybe your exfoliator is too rough? Sometimes I find that a gentle chemical exfoliator is better for removing dry skin. Have you ever used asian skincare? Those products are usually effective and frequently affordable. I use the Secret Key Lemon D Toc peel and it's great for taking off dead skin without leaving damage. As far as a moisturizer, I tried this one today and really liked it. As you can see, its very highly rated.

Those should be fine to combine. If you choose to try multiple, you may want to stagger them out to get a feel for which works best for you, since everyone's skin is its own special little snowflake. Or you can YOLO it and pile them all on, if you want.

Vitamin C does help (I really like the OST C20), and AHA/BHA exfoliants help fade hyperpigmentation spots. However, you have to be careful with those because they can mess up your skin if you overuse them. So I wouldn't jump in with them until you know your skin's in good enough shape to take harsher products.

It's generally recommended to reapply sunscreen every two hours if you're getting constant sun exposure or being active. If you're inside most of the day (away from windows, or with coated windows) and not sweating a lot, though, you are probably okay.

Oh yeah, and wash your face at the end of the day if you use sunscreen. Sunscreens are formulated to stay on your face for a while, so an oil cleanser will break them down. (This cleansing oil supposedly has a whitening effect, but I don't see any ingredients that would make that happen.)

Lol, I asked this question a few days ago on /r/MakeupAddictionCanada.

There simply isn't too many options in Canada.

Canadian options I know of are:

  • Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion, 200mL for ~CDN$20. Available at SDM, the Bay, Sears, Sephora. I'm not a fan of this because I find too weak.

  • Neutrogena Naturals Acne Spot Treatment, 22ml for ~CDN$10. Available at Walmart and SDM. It is at the right pH to exfoliate. However, it's rather pricey when comparing price to volume. That said, if desperate, works well in a pinch. Very similar ingredient list and formulation to Neutrogena Rapid Clear 8-Hours Acne Defence Face Lotion that's available from US Amazon.

Other options accessible to Canadians I know of are:

  • Paula's Choice BHA Liquid, 118mL for ~US$28 plus brokerage and shipping. Need to order from the US. Didn't work out when I tried it years ago, and I think it's bit pricey.

  • Stridex in the red box 90 pads for ~CDN$10 plus shipping from iHerb.com. Never tried it, but my sister did and I recall that she wasn't a fan. I personally prefer liquids over pads. That said, I am keeping it in mind as backup.

  • Neutrogena Rapid Clear 8-Hours Acne Defence Face Lotion, 50mL. Available from US Amazon for ~US$20. There is also a US$10 shipping fee to Canada. Currently using and nearly done. It has met my needs for BHA, but I would not repurchase unless I couldn't find anything cheaper that works.

  • CosRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid, 100mL for ~US$15. On its way to me, ordered from Jolse. May also be available for cheaper on other AB sellers/websites. Depending on where you order it from, you may need to pay for tracking for ~US$3. This has a pH of 4, taken from here. However, I am a little bit hesitant about the CosRx BHA because I have been so accustomed to salicylic acid and that betain salicylate may not cut it for me. I've tried the samples, but I don't think the sample was enough for me to make a proper judgment on it. I took the jump on it anyway and I'm hoping it works out.

Finally, I want to quickly mention the Neutrogena Rapid Clear All-in-1 Facial Lotion that you may see at Walmart. It's mostly alcohol. It may work out for you though. As with most things skincare, YMMV.

I have a similar suggestion if you don't want to have to brew tea and hold it on your face with a cotton swab. Which, upvotes to you OP for figuring this out and doing what works for you!!

But Mizon has a similar product with calamine lotion that works really well on my cystic acne. This product is just thicker (calamine lotion thickness) so it stays on better and you don't have to hold it on your face. I spot treat at night and it even stays on while I am sleeping. But that and using hydrocolloid bandages has helped my acne sooooo much. I don't get really painful ones anymore.

I start with the Mizon spot treatment when I start to see it coming up and then when it reaches a head or seems like the skin is getting thinner over it I put a hydrocolloid bandage on it and the it stays moist and doesn't hurt anymore!

u/rhythmicdancer · 3 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

Buddy, you need to exfoliate. Get a backscrub towel. I recommend using it with a salicylic acid cleanser like Neutrogena Salicylic Acid Wash. You can get both at any drug store, big box store or beauty supply shop

If your skin can handle it, I recommend the Korean Italy towels. Get them at a Korean store where they'll be way cheaper. These you don't use with cleanser. You use them after your skin has been wet for a few minutes, then you scrub away. You'll see bits of skin flaking off. But it can make your skin feel dry and itchy because you're taking off layers of skin. I recommend doing this only once a week and not before you'll be out in direct sunlight. You can make it a little less intense by adding a cleanser like the one above so it will be a little slippery.

Whatever method you use, don't scrub too hard.

Personally I use both methods. I had bad bacne when I was a teen, and if I don't shower immediately after a workout, I'll start to break out. These methods work wonders for me.

Hope it works for you, too!

I, too, hate the texture of cerave's hydrating cleanser. I'm in love with First Aid Beauty's Face Cleanser. The texture is like whipped lotion; it foam-creams when washing. It's a good pH and it has a bunch of nice extra skin-good stuffs that rinse but at least they're there. A little pea-sized amount is enough for my whole face and leaves my skin normal-feeling: not stripped and definitely not with that weird texture that the cerave hydrating does. I use mineral oil or DHC for oil cleansing and then the First Aid Beauty cleanser after. Very happy, especially since my skin hates everything else lately. And you can buy small packets of it to try for a week before committing to a larger tube.

(Edit: grammar.)

You’re pretty cute. Don’t listen to anyone who doesn’t have curly hair. Your hair rocks, and what would help is if you shortened the sides and put a soft gel in the top to make the curls stand out without getting frizzy. I use Cantu Define & Shine gel - it’s like $5 or so, which is pretty cheap and you don’t need much at all so it’s worth a try.
As for skin care, you’re right, it’s hard. Your skin isn’t that bad though. You don’t seem to have scarring. Maybe try using an acne face wash with benzoyl peroxide (helps with whiteheads) and a hydrating tonerhydrating toner or a light, non-comedogenic lotion (won’t clog pores) . Only need to do it once a day, twice if your skin is oily. I think the mistake people make is doing TOO much. My skin looked similar to yours and that’s what helped me.

Is Lauric Acid in skincare safe to use? Because on CosDNA it says it's harmful to acne. (The product I want to buy is the Neogen Real Fresh Foam Green Tea ) So I was just wondering..
Also please recommend any water based cleansers~ ;-; Thank you!

Every other day I use Mario bedescu face scrub to exfoliate. Once a week I do a good clay or charcoal mask. I use the Mario bedescu toner and seaweed night cream and I use the rose water spray as well. My cleanser is either pixi clay cleanser or trader Joe's face cleanser. It's clear and in a clear pump bottle. When it's cloudy I use a good oil called daughter's of the land and when the sun is out I use kiehls spf face cream to moisturize .

I was referred here by r/skincareaddiction.

I am traveling for six months in Asia and am running out of face wash about halfway through the trip. I currently use this face wash.

Skin Type: Fair, sensitive, prone to breakouts because of hormonal birth control.

Question: I will be in Hong Kong in about a week and would like to pick up another face wash. Can anyone recommend a face wash I would be able to fairly easily find in Hong Kong that is similar to the one I'm currently using?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Clean and Clear makes a pretty good OTC BP in my experience, won't fade it in time but should help some. If you haven't used this kind of BP before, only use it tonight, not tomorrow morning. BP can be drying and cause irritation.

Also, be confident! I know interviews are stressful, but you have a lot more to offer than just a pretty face :)

I always personally try to go light with moisturizers on my face at night since it just seems to stick to my pillow and clog my pores. With my psoriasis my skin grows too quickly so I have to exfoliate about twice a week with a scrub like cloth otherwise it flakes.

I would severely advise against using anything course like salt on your face however. Even with excess skin layers you would be doing alot of damage that is going to make things worse if anything at all. There are korean peeling gels that I really like personally if you want that smooth exfoliated feeling without having to worry about going too rough. Just do a test patch on your wrist before you try it of course but I totally recommend it. Try not to exfoliate more than necessary but identifying between dead skin and dry skin was a huge turning point for me skin wise, you cant quench dead skin.

If those arent blackheads and they dont go away I would consider asking a parent or GP to see a dermatologist if possible since it could be a reaction to something in particular. I never considered that asian stores might carry aloe vera, I will look at mine thankyou. This is my favourite peeling gel btw:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R295FPC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is another one that I tried and was just abit more gentle:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BQM73O2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Do you have a DaisoJapan store near you? If you do then I get the exfoliating cloths from there. Sorry for the long read.

u/katerunka · 3 pointsr/AsianBeauty

what do you like about this oil? Is it thick or light and runny?

I have not tried the one from Riley, but I have illi total aging and hanyul and they both don't sting eyes (I take off my eye makeup with them), pretty runny so I use only one pump, emulsify very well.

Have you tried Heimish All Clean Balm?

It's a lot like Clinique take the day off but it does't burn or break me out. I don't (think) I have sensitive skin, but I always go for sensitive skin products. I'm on my 5th+ tub, I love this stuff! You just can't use it if you have false eyelashes.

Okay, so it's possible that BP isn't going to be the magic solution for you, and it can certainly be very drying. But before giving up on it... the product you linked is a BP face wash. There are some people for whom that delivery method of BP isn't super effective, because it doesn't give the product enough time in contact with your face. I'd suggest getting a BP spot treatment product like this, which is meant to be put on (before bed, for instance) and left on your skin for a longer period of time. Again, BP can be drying and irritating, so you'll have to see if it (a) clears up your problem and (b) has side effects you're willing to tolerate in terms of irritation. But before calling it quits with BP altogether, I'd try a spot treatment product for a few days.

As for your headgear, are you able to clean it well each night before putting it on? Not sure what it's made of, but if it's sitting on your skin for long stretches, you'll want to be make sure it's clean when you put it on every day.

u/primalprincess · 1 pointr/AsianBeauty

This is my cleanser. I would say it is not harsh at all, I'm surprised to hear it described at such. It's probably super important to add that I'm using it with the Nooni, which dilutes it a tad since you add water, and you're only using pure foam!!

I had previously been using Neutrogena which was stripping my skin really badly, and since swapping over to this one my skin feels amazing, more soft and moisturized.

u/EgregiousWeasel · 2 pointsr/SkincareAddiction

I really like Illi cleansing oil. It has a nice herbal scent, and it emulsifies easily with water and rinses clean. It's a little pricey, but it only takes one pump to clean my face, so it's lasting.

u/dr-mrs_seattle2019 · 1 pointr/weddingplanning

Oooo after getting engaged, I was finally motivated to "treat" myself to a skincare routine. Honestly the two biggest things have been lotion (CeraVe) and sunscreen (Watery Essence). The routine starts at "night" in my mind:

Theres one by Secret Key that works well here, also you can find more recs on r/AsianBeauty because peeling gels are more popular there :)

u/enducker · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I use this BP wash in the shower and haven't noticed any issues with my clothing. The bathmat on the floor is slightly discolored though.

I don't know if its any more or less effective than a creme that stays on, but I am happy with it.

Where would I get samples for Stridex Strength Medicated Pads, Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask, and Amore Pacific Illi Total Aging Care Cleansing Oil?

The reason I ask is because I want to use these products as outlined in this method to remove/hide black heads. But I don't want to buy the whole product in case it doesn't work/messes with my face, especially if I buy them online.

And another thing, how would I patch test the Stridex pads?

Has anyone compared Mizon's Acence Blemish Spot out Solution Serum to their Acence Blemish Out Pink Spot? I'm curious which was more effective for cysts and for comedones.

I use vaseline to remove eye makeup. Extra bonus because it can help your lashes grow. For the rest of my makeup I use this cleansing oil. It eats through it all so fast.

I'm a big fan of the Mario Badescu drying lotion as a spot treatment. A dab on a zit and one of the bigger Cosrx pimple patches over night is a miracle. Pond's Cold Cream Cleanser is the one people refer to.

It changed formulation about a year ago and a bunch of people who used to use it have problems with it now. I personally LOVE it, have no issues, and I use it nearly every night in conjunction with Cerave cleanser as a 2-step cleansing to get my skin clean of makeup and sunscreen. But like I said, if you're acne prone, patch test the shit out of it. One cheek or part of your forehead or your chin for like two weeks, just to make sure.

Also don't use it as a leave-on moisturizer. Apply a layer, wait for a few min, then wipe it off with a damp cloth and follow with a cleanser. It can be used as a leave-on face cream but I think it's not very good for that use.

u/african_violent · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

You're the best!

This one, yeah?

u/Brittakitt · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

Your before looks a lot like mine did!! And I changed a bunch of things around, so I'm not exactly positive what did it, or if it was a mix of everything. My daily routine is:

AM: Gentle scrub with a konjac sponge (no soap), a BHA (This is the one I use), a moisturizer (Stratia liquid gold), and a sunscreen (This one ) . Then I follow with primer and makeup.

PM: I come home and cleanse my face with the oil cleansing method (I use jobaba oil personally), and then Stratia Liquid Gold again. I give the moisturizer time to soak in and then put on the tretinoin before I got to bed.

I also change my pillowcases every 2 nights and don't let anything touch my face if I can help it. It was overwhelming to try and start all of that, but has been worth it for me. Although everyone's skin is different and different things work for different people, so I'm not sure if my routine would work for you.

Edit: I also wouldn't use moisturizer on my face before, as it would make me red and blotchy and didn't help my combination skin. It turns out that I just had to find the right one. But again, everyone's skin is different!!

neutrogena oil free acne wash I got it at target and it’s simple and been helping. It’s nothing fancy though.

u/ChevronTea · 1 pointr/SkincareAddiction

I would recommend products with high concentrations of Benzoyl Peroxide- this stuff kills the bacteria causing acne. This is the one I use:

http://www.amazon.com/Topix-Benzoyl-Peroxide-Wash-bottle/dp/B001MA7QFO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418016254&sr=8-1&keywords=benzoyl+peroxide+10

Or if you want results faster, you can try to get a prescription for minocycline- which is an antibiotic that is used for severe acne.

I used to use Cetaphil and Origins as well, but I find that these medicinal-smelling washes tend to work better for me.

Hey guys! 23M here. I'd say I have oily skin. I also develop dandruff when my hair gets long (plan to try Nizoral for this), and that may be the cause of some forehead acne...usually comes and goes. Other than that, how would you rate this?

- Nivea Men Face Wash

- Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Defense Lotion (https://www.amazon.com/Neutrogena-Rapid-Defense-Lotion-Salicylic/dp/B001E96ORO?th=1)

- Banana Boat Men Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50 (https://www.amazon.com/Banana-Boat-Sunscreen-Defense-Spectrum/dp/B00EOP3NII)

------

1) I suppose I could repeat the Nivea and Neutrogena for AM and PM?

2) I can't tell if the Banana boat sunscreen lotion is same as a moisturizer? If so, could I just get away with the Nivea Face Wash and just apply the banana boat 15 min before I head out of the house?

I have the same type of skin. Very dry and sensitive (I have eczema) and yet terribly prone to acne.

I use the most mild cleanser I can find. I've been using Trader Joe's Nourish All-In-One Facial Cleanser for a few years now.

Then I use the regular old Stridex in the red box, but only every other day AT MOST. (salicylic acid, not bp) It helps control my acne but is too drying when I use it more than that.

Then I alternate days with Paula's Choice 8% AHA Gel and Paula's Choice Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol. (I used to use them both every night, but recently learned that using an AHA and a retinol at the same time doesn't allow each to be effective. No, I don't know the science behind it, but I read it here or on /r/SkincareAddiction or something)

I moisturize with Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré, which is a freaking miracle cream - I would recommend this to anyone and everyone - It's not greasy, it absorbs quickly, it makes my dry icky skin feel like velvet. And it's so mild - No matter how dry, cracked and broken my skin is, it never burns or stings.

If I'm dryer than usual, sometimes I use argan oil (plain, 100% argan oil with nothing added.)

Hope that helps.

First, I'd say go to a dermatologist.

If you don't have insurance, they will likely prescribe you something like this. Use it twice a day in the shower (you should shower ASAP after a workout) and things should clear up.

Not exactly, but they're still products that they list as alternatives.

I do use the recommended CosRX Blackhead Power Liquid for the BHA, for the clay mask I use Elizavecca Milky Piggy Bubble Clay, and then for the cleanser I use Amore Pacific/Illiyoon Cleansing Oil.

I have extremely dry skin plus a ton of fine hair, so I usually follow this up with a couple of swipes with a razor (with the grain) for hair removal plus exfoliation on my cheeks/jawline/chin. You obviously don't need to do that last step, I just wanted to give a thorough response 🙃

Oil cleansing/double cleansing with illi Cleansing Oil has really made a difference on my cheeks. I was using Garnier Miceller Water (first pink cap, then blue) for years to take off my make-up and this thread is making me realize that may have been the culprit. I've had issues with makeup removing products breaking me out, so I keep it pretty simple. I should mention that I generally don't wear makeup that's difficult to remove (no waterproof mascara, no eyelash glue, no ultra-budge-proof-tattoo-lacquer eyeliner, etc), and I've been trying to limit single-use waste as much as possible.

First I wipe away most of my makeup with a microfiber cloth and some warm water.

Then I use a reusable cotton round and a little Garnier Micellar Water to remove any leftover makeup. If my mascara is being stubborn, I just gently hold the cotton round over my eye for 30 seconds or so to give it a chance to dissolve.

Finally I use CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser and rinse with a muslin face cloth.

On special occasions when I am wearing more stubborn makeup, I use a little coconut oil in addition to the micellar water.

> Heimish cleansing balm

I went and checked this one for you and I didn't recognize any of these third party sellers so I completely understand your suspicious, especially since a lot of them registered less than 6 months ago.

If you go really far back on the seller options, you can see that Amazon.com themselves (not a third party seller) is actually selling that cleansing balm. Amazon.com only buys directly from the company's wholesale department and never from third party sellers. What's happening is, third party sellers are winning the 'buybox option' by constantly under-cutting each other by 1cent.

I'm not quite sure if I'm allowed to directly link to Amazon, but here is the link to the balm:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01CJ639SM

And here is amazon themselves selling it:
https://i.imgur.com/QWloPhD.jpg

You can 100% buy items that are being sold directly from Amazon.com (again, not from any third-party seller, if it says a seller's name in your cart, you've added the wrong one) with no worries about authenticity.
