My wife makes fun of me to no end because I grabbed one of these.

It's more or less a fanny pack but I like it because its low profile and doesn't bounce around or get hung up as much. I ended up cutting off the top pouch so my hand could fit all the way in the main compartment. One day I'll probably get shot by the cops when I'm walking from my car to work but at least all my shit is near.

Edit: Plan on replacing the velcro, it is pretty terrible. The more expensive ones may be better but I got the cheapie so who knows.

I recently downsized my bag to this it has a couple ways to strap a rod to it. I'm happy with the quality of it.

Well the ones you're looking for are usually laptop sized with a flap top and come with separators you need to use scissors to separate into sections and put these rectangular pieces into these walled ridged sections within the box. The average 3.75 figure will fit within two walled ridged sections within the tackle box, put the rectangular pieces you cut to form the rectangular box per figure accordingly.

These are usually $4-7 dollars at your local sporting goods store in the fishing section, most likely, your Walmart, Dick's, Big Five and Bass Pro.

They're meant to be shoved into special fishing backpacks, but that's obviously not what you want to do here.

For a box, I prefer the soft type like this one : http://www.amazon.com/Fishing-Flambeau-Az6-Soft-Tackle/dp/B003OZ60VG. Mine fits 6 of the flat plastic boxes and I have them separated by species (a couple with all trout stuff, a couple with bass tackle, etc). I only bring the ones I need for a given day so I have extra room in the bag for other stuff. With the model I have, if I only pack three boxes a sixer fits in juuuust right. :p

(also, the one I linked to was just the first link I found. You probably don't need one that fancy/expensive.)

I was thinking more along the lines of:

ARB 10100350 Brown Large Cargo Gear Storm Proof Bag https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004P9FCNM/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_XEC9ub11HZTZX
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004P9FCNM/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_XEC9ub11HZTZX

Then grouping gear together in separate bags like:

  • sleeping/shelter
  • clothes
  • recovery gear
  • etc (haven't had enough coffee yet)

I already have an action packer that contains all the kitchen stuff that should also be able to hold all of our pantry items. That goes in the rear storage area with the 45qt Whynter fridge, the solar panel, stove and a few other bits and pieces, which is quite the load out for the XJ's limited storage capacity back there. I may or may not be able to use the back seat for storage as we might have a passenger (human this time, the dogs are sitting this one out) but I will likely have the house battery (don't worry it's an AGM) in its battery box behind one of the front seats.

I do a lot of bass fishing... from the shore.

I bought this bag (from Walmart): http://www.amazon.com/Berkley-Small-Tackle-Bag/dp/B005OTYU76/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1334617882&sr=1-1

It's small, but you can manage to fit a lot into it. I have 4 crankbaits, spinnerbait, 2 buzzbaits, chatterbait, husky jerk, 4 poppers, 1 spook, 1 lipless crank, 2 jigs, another spool (I only carry 1 rod, so I have a spool of braided and mono), all of my terminal tackle (all in one tray), and about 6 packs of soft plastics.
