I'm very much into the workerwear/buy it for life camp, but for most of my every day carry items that I consider to be accessories, this is what I have:

  • Headwear - For me I usually aim for caps and beanies. They're extremely versatile and are the most noticeable accessory on you, because well it's on your head. ASOS has tons of options for caps but for beanies I love Carhartt
  • Sunglasses - To protect your eyes from the sun. I like Warby Parker
  • Wallet - This is one of those things that people rarely see, but shows a lot about your style when it is seen. For me I have a wallet from Tanner Goods which has gotten a compliment every time it gets pulled out.
  • Carabiner - This one is optional and more personal preference for me. I don't like having my keys in my front pockets and always bunch them with my wallet in my butt pockets. But to make sure they stay on me I use a Carabiner key holder. I used to own this one for awhile. The one benefit I like for this is that it also has a bottle opener on it too.
  • Phone Case - Don't know if you're someone that chooses to go caseless, but I have learned the biggest thing I accessories is my phone nowadays. Over the years I've learned to love the feel of leather cases. I got this one from Shinola that I loved and over time patina'd very well to have a nice aged look.
  • Umbrella - Not something I use all the time, but it's always in my backpack. I like ShedRain's umbrellas
  • Backpack - Outside of hats, this the second most noticeable accessory that gets noticed on you if you're a working professional. I used to commute by bike a lot in my previous city and learned to love Chrome. Also every bike commuter has had one of their messenger bags at some point in their lives but their backpacks are super solid too.
  • Fitness tracker - Another optional one. But I have noticed that every single I started having this, it's pushed me to continue to be healthier and they strive to get me to be more active. Fitbit Alta's are the main ones that friends have that do't want to break the bank. For me thought I use an Apple Watch and I love the thing.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the critique and the time you put into it, thank you!

Totally agreed. I bought these umbrellas. They fit in the water bottle holder on the Aer bag. We have one on each bag so they’re not taking up room in the bag and if I’m being real they will likely get lost.

Most of the t’s are the same style and just darker colors. From everything I’m hearing and reading I overdid this. I’ve been justifying it because the two extra t’s take up so little room (especially in the cubes) and weigh a few oz.

Totally agree again, I’m over prepared with clothes. It’s hard for me to get around multiple uses in my head. I’m sure I run into someone who could use a little charity.

I have a pretty bad foot injury that’s still healing so some of the socks are compression. I’m thinking I might be able to wear them over the merino. I also like to bring a long pair of compression in my Flight bad for longer flights. It helps stop your legs from swelling.

I’m a huge gym buff and whenever possible I hit the gym. One pair is the everyday shorts and the other is the momentum gym shorts. They’re very thin and lightweight. I originally planned on having two pairs of new way shorts but I’m several months into trying to get the other pair. I originally bought a blade gray and they were too big on my waist despite the size chart. Now I’m months into waiting on them to become in stock. We leave in less than a month so I don’t think it’s happening. I may drop the trail shorts.

Totally agree with the shoes thing. The foot injury keeps me in boots. We plan on doing a ton of hiking and the ankle protection goes a long way. I plan on wearing the boots while traveling and the Nike’s will be in the bag. I have custom orthotics in both shoes something happens to one I’m still covered. (Damn military injury)

The sling bag is really small and minimal. It’s almost like a belt/wallet that goes on my chest. It can house the GoPro Mount, camera, wallet, power bank and passport if I need it. The Loctote bag is excess for sure. It’s heavy, over a pound. It’s just so nice to have. It fits into the laptop compartment of our other bags. When you go to the beach or anywhere you can lock it to something. It’s slash proof, had pockets for sunglasses and smaller things, it’s a great daypack, fits the drone and waters for hiking. It’s a luxury and I’ve thought about it a lot. We’ll see how it goes.

I’m new to photography and picked up the rx100 for a great deal. I’m sure I move to better cameras eventually. Lowering the amount I carry is prerogative at this point.

I ended up selling my 900 Gallon Reef and coral that I loved to pay for all of this. I’m a gear enthusiast and love having what I need.

Thank you again for your time and writing that up!

Dakine Backpack 25L - Bought for $17 two years ago. Hasn't shown its age at all.

Chicago Cubs Floral Hat - I have fro-like hair, it keeps it down.

ZtuntZ Longboard - For getting around campus.

Bluetooth Headphones - They're not very good. I used a Best Buy gift card for them, so they do the job.

Collapsable Umbrella - Lightweight and easy to fit.

Hanes Black Socks - I wear sandals most of the time, so a dry pair of socks is good to have on hand.

Organ Shoes - These have leather soles so that they don't dirty the pedalboard at the bottom.

AmazonBasics Laptop Case - Rough, and I don't like to use it, but I dropped my laptop so I'm being more careful.

MacBook Air - Does the job well. OK battery.

Korg Tuner - I don't need a tuner but someone might, so I like to keep it on hand.

Don't fret about it too much. You want to give her a gift that says "I have a crush on you". Are you hoping that something actually happens here? She's your teacher. It would be unethical for her to do anything with you and that makes it unethical for you to even ask her to consider anything.

Chocolates and/or flowers are too much of a "valentine" type of gift to get for a teacher. Since she's your science teacher, try to find a little trinket or something sciencey that she could use or keep in her classroom.

If you check out geekwrapped.com, there are lots of cool nerdy gifts. The fact that you took the time to get her a gift says that you care. The fact that you take the time to find something unique to her (something sciencey) is way more caring than chocolates, flowers, or any traditional type of gift. She will love whatever geeky think you get her a lot more than some regular everyday gift.

In looking through the site, my favorite pick for her is the galaxy umbrella. It's nerdy, it's pretty, and it's practical. She will actually need an umbrella, and even if she's already got one, this one will be way cooler (and it's affordable at less than $20).

That's a really good gift if you ask me, but you can find other neat things on that geekwrapped site as well. However, to circle back to my original point, I hope you don't get too hung up on her. Nothing is going to happen, and nothing should happen. Find a way to get over your crush on her, because you're passing up girls your own age that are actually acceptable for you to date.

This isn't directly clothing-related, but definitely invest in a good umbrella. It rains a good deal there (not really heavy rains, just a kind of steady drizzle) and it also gets windy, so it definitely will put a cheap umbrella through the wringer really quickly. Something with a vent like this will help keep it from flipping inside out, plus it folds small enough to fit in a bag relatively unobtrusively. (I actually have had this umbrella for the past couple of months and I've had good luck so far.)

u/WhattheNorris · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Definitely pack sunglasses and more sunscreen than you would think you need. Whether you wear it or not, now is the time! Sun damages the skin more than you think, including giving you more wrinkles and acne!

A hack I can offer is to roll your clothes rather than fold them to avoid crease lines and make packing easier. Someone already mentioned gum so I'd like to second that. I always chew gum on the decent because I absolutely hate having my ears pop.

Oh also make sure you have plenty of time to go through security! It can take up to an hour to get from parked to gate, so plan ahead. My suggested item is a little travel umbrella because you never know what kind of weather to expect! Or perhaps something to do with your hands while you fly, like an adult coloring book or a loom/string craft, since your wishlist seems to nod to those being something you enjoy :)

Good luck on your flight! First time's always the most fun. Make sure to buy your plane snacks before you get to the airport, since they'll be massively expensive inside! fun in the sun :)

u/CyphyZ · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

The pagoda ones will work. And there are a ton of others. this is one of the ones I plan on picking up at some point. and this one comes in tons of colors. Lacey touches but still uv base. And for more functional than looks this one claims 95% uv protection in a little portable package :)

annnnnd now I am shopping parasols again. lol

edit: this is super cute! 50% protective and adorable, I wish it was in a non pastel

I just recently downsized from my SwissGear Synergy after 10 years of service as a Network Engineer.

14" Laptop, assorted tools, cables, console adapters, iPad... all kinds of stuff.

Lifetime warranty.
I'd call it very water resistant, but not completely rain proof.

I wanted something smaller, and more I dunno, executive-looking I guess.
So I went with a Everki Studio
Which I like quite a bit. I'm still getting used to carrying less stuff around though.

Just about any quality laptop backpack will keep your stuff dry for a 5-10 minute run to your car.
If your walk is significantly longer than that, then please just slide a micro-umbrella into a side pocket of said backpack.
That's a much cheaper solution than searching for a truly water-proof bag.

In addition to Everki, don't ignore the more advanced LL Bean bags like the Turbo Transit

Yeah, I know LL Bean might have a middle-school or high-school image in your mind that you may want to avoid. But the quality of their construction, and the solid support from their lifetime warranty shouldn't be ignored.

u/HlVNTI1JyFYsTEoirQp4 · 11 pointsr/EDC

I daily carry a GORUCK GR1. I chose this pack because of how ridiculously overbuilt it is. Prior to getting the GR1, I carried less and I generally still couldn't go more than 6 months at best without ripping or destroying my packs. I also like that it doesn't have much built in organization. I prefer to create my own organizational system rather than use the one mandated by the pack. This is the primary reason I chose this over similar high quality options such as the Tom Bihn Synapse 25.

Also, I know there is a serious lack of cool hacking tools. Unfortunately I am currently in a more defensive than offensive cybersecurity position, so I don't really carry a lot of stuff around with me like I used to when I was red team.

On the front you can see that I have a Grimloc biner in case I need to attach anything to my pack. I also have a Gonex water bottle pouch and a large water bottle. On the back of the pack I have a pouch with my EDC Zebralight on the shoulder strap for easy access while wearing the ruck.

Are you American? I went to Walmart and got a Totes umbrella that’s rated UPF 50. It’s sturdy and cost $12. I got the rainbow one but I think the black one may provide more relief from the heat (although the one I have does help). Also it’s huge, supposed to cover two people, and has an auto-release button BUT folds up to about the length of my forearm.

Edit: I can’t find the one I bought, but the pattern is the one seen here: https://www.totes.com/p/totes-golf-umbrella-automatic-sun-neverwet-9637?color=BLK

And Amazon does carry some Totes umbrellas: TOTES MINI AUTO OPEN RAIN SUNGUARD UMBRELLA (Pink) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074TR79JD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ERM-AbSTME97Z

Good luck!

This is the one I got. It's 89 grams (3.14oz), 21cm length (8.26"), 4cm (1.57") diameter when closed. I haven't tested it in the rain yet, but it does seem like it will hold up well.

Pros:

  • Smallest, lightest umbrella I've ever found.

  • Comes with a sturdy hard case that you could use for something? It's too heavy for me to include in my bag, though.

    Neutral:

  • It's a little short when open (~46cm / 18.1" total height), but it opens quite wide (~85cm / 33.46" width).

    Cons:

  • A little pricey.

  • It also takes a small effort to fold the carbon fiber spines (?) into place - they fold in half when not in use.

    ---------------

My old umbrella was like 260g, not worth carrying for the use/weight ratio imo. This one is just slightly larger than the size/weight of a pair of boxers (67g). Maybe I'll review this once I use it in the rain a few times, but so far I'm happy to have this as a just in case.

Obviously the solution to this contest was to go on Amazon and search "fun shit".

I gotta say, this is some pretty fun shit.

I've been pretty happy with the Lifetek travel umbrella. Easily fits into bags as I usually keep mine in the water bottle pocket of a backpack. It's also stood up to some pretty crazy winds. They also have a 2 year warranty which they are good about honoring - I accidentally dropped the umbrella out of a third story window which cracked the handle (long story) and they replaced it, no questions asked.

u/bstock · 3 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I don't live in a big city with lots of wind or anything, but I bought a few of these in 2015 and have been pretty happy with them. They're cheap enough to where even if they did break at this point I'd feel I got my money worth.

For a rain jacket, I strongly recommend something that has "goretex" for breathability.

Keep in mind, goretex does not keep you warm. It only keeps you dry. You want to layer up in the winter.

Check out this link for the various Goretex products at MEC. https://www.mec.ca/en/search2?text=goretex&org_text=goretex

If you walk or take the bus... I love my goretex hiking boots. Waterproof and breathable.

For an umbrella, I strongly recommend getting one of those auto close models. https://www.amazon.ca/Samsonite-51701-1041-Windguard-Umbrella-International/dp/B00BPEEQEG

If you walk around at night often, also consider one of those led umbrellas. https://www.amazon.ca/Illuminating-Umbrella-Night-Protection-Children/dp/B00R73TISI

fear cuts deeper than words

Edit #1 - Replaced #1 #2, #9, #13, #15, edited some text, added bonuses

Okay, so a lot of my items are similar, or are kind of "flexing" the rules, but I will leave official rulings up to you. Here goes!

  1. Something Grey - Strip of magnesium - This actually just got gifted to me. This coal trash can is silver, which is basically grey :D

2)Something reminiscent of rain - Zen Garden - Flexing the rules. It's only related because it's a garden. An umbrella!! I don't have one of these, and I have no idea why.

  2. Food related - Pineapple corer/slicer

  3. On wishlist not for me (this is for my fiancee) - Apple Cider k-cups

  4. A book you should read - Everyone should have the Joy of Cooking

    6)Item less than a dollar - MP3

  5. Something related to cats - This is related because of that scene in "Christmas Vacation" where the cat gets electrocuted

  6. [Beautiful but not useful - Lego adoption of Brandenburg Gate](
    http://www.amazon.com/LEGO%C2%AE-Architecture-Brandenburg-Gate-21011/dp/B0050R0V3O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=E9RD1GO4V1KF&coliid=I22USNN7FC4LVL)

  7. Movie everyone should see once - Not on wishlist - Harlan County, USA. This documentary is nearly perfect in every sense of the word. This movie is so powerful, and so real, it's just unbelievable. One of my favorites. I always suggest it when someone asks "what documentary should I see?"

  8. Something useful when Zombies attack - Kinect Your Shape Fitness Evolved - You need to be able to Outwit, Outrun, and Outlast.

  9. Profound impact on life - Guitar. I really want to learn how to play, and my dad was going to teach me, but he passed before he was able to. It would mean a lot to share that passion with him even though he's already moved on

  10. Add-On Item - Cat6 cable!!!

  11. Most expensive item -It's actually the guitar, so I went with the 2nd most expensive which is a Logitech G19 keyboard Nope. It's actually this amp.

  12. Bigger than a bread box - Mizuno backpack

  13. Smaller than a golf ball - Not sure if a k-cup would count, but I threw it in there. If it doesn't count, I will find something else It doesn't. Here's some ship and anchor cufflinks I really want for my wedding :)

  14. Something that smells wonderful - Kind of cheating, but a different k-cup. Donut shop coffee is the BEST. Changed to a different beverage. I have a horrible addiction to this stuff, and it smells wonderful (to me)

  15. SFW Toy - Legos are a toy!! :D

  16. Helpful going back to school - I listed the Zen Garden again because it's helpful to have something peaceful when going back to school

  17. Something related to your current obsession - I am OBSESSED with Lorde. I have stated this many times over the last week.

  18. Something amazing/awe inspiring - SERIOUSLY. LOOK AT THIS FUCKING CHAIR. THIS MOTHERFUCKER RIGHT HERE? THIS SHIT FOLDS UP SO YOU CAN CARRY IT. NOT GOOD ENOUGH? SHIT, SON. THIS BITCH HAS TWO ARMRESTS FOR YOUR LAZY ASS. STILL BITCHING? GUESS WHAT DICKLIPS, THIS BITCH HAS TWO CAN HOLDERS AND A FUCKING COOLER. YOU DON'T EVEN NEED TO GET YOUR BITCH ASS UP TO GET A DRINK, BAM, YOU ALREADY GOT ONE. IT EVEN HAS A POUCH TO HOLD YOUR OTHER SHIT, IF ALL OF THIS ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH. YOU NEED TO HAVE THIS CHAIR.

BONUS #1 - I looked through your reddit history (not very hard, but I did look), and came up empty, so I'll just post something later that might fit.

BONUS #2 - These blankets are made in Oregon, and look SUPER cool. Not on my WL (I have more than enough blankets), but I really like them.

I may attempt the bonuses tomorrow, we will see. This is definitely a placeholder until rulings on some items are made. Fix'd :D

I'm currently in the process of buying some UPF 50 hats from the Coolibar website! And have hassled my sister for days to pick a damn hat so I can buy her some hats to help protect her skin too LOL. (Meanwhile my other sister regularly uses tanning beds can you believe this?!)

I'm getting my hats from here 😃 also going to get some gloves and a sun shawl wrap

And I just got this parasol in black 😃

I'm seeking sun umbrella recommendations. I had one on eBay I had been eyeing, but someone else pointed me towards this Van Gogh one with the reflective insides. The reviews don't have me convinced that I'll love it^plus ^I ^^think ^^it's ^^^ugly.

Does anyone else have any sun umbrella recommendations? I do have a bit of preference for eBay since it lets me use PayPal Credit.

My mother in law bought me a Windpro umbrella before I went to study abroad in England, and it held up pretty well to the English rain and wind! I think mine is this one. The vent thing sounds like a gimmick, but I guess it worked! I've also seen a lot of nicer umbrellas at Nordstrom Rack so you could check there for a discounted one

u/bloodguard · 1 pointr/volt

I have a LifeTek Automatic (Wind Resistant Frame). I fits in the door holder easily but honestly I usually just toss it onto the passenger side floor during the rainy season.

Very sturdy. Auto open and, more importantly, auto close.

u/MrIndianTeem · 1 pointr/RandomKindness

This is super thoughtful! I need an umbrella with all this rain:

If size and collapsibility (I know that isn't a real word!) are important factors for you, this one is amazing:

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B000F1RGBU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I previously had a Fulton collapsible that lasted quite a few years, but when it finally broke, I did some online research and the above model got rave reviews everywhere (in camping magazines, umbrella tests, Amazon reviews, etc.). For the size and price, it is very well-made and it has never given me trouble during heavy rain and wind. I carry it around in my bag every day in case of unexpected rain, and it would even fit in a purse.

This umbrella fits perfectly in the Umbrella holder in the Driver and Front Passenger doors!

u/kbrsuperstar · 5 pointsr/AsianBeautyAdvice

I have this UV umbrella -- it's (somewhat) compact and works really well but honestly I find it a pain to not have both hands free. If I'm going to be out all day, I usually wear this hat (although I cut off the bow because I thought it was dumb) and/or UV cut clothes from uniqlo.

u/kittydorkdork · 1 pointr/fringefashion

One of the best things I ever bought! The important part is the UV. I don't know how that works or if it's even legit but I don't get sunburned so it must work!

u/pancake-waffles · 1 pointr/vancouver

I use this: https://www.amazon.ca/Lewis-Clark-413-Black-One-Size-Automatic/dp/B000F1RGBU

It's held up against strong winds and it's relatively cheap.

u/Zeekawla99ii · 8 pointsr/AskNYC

The conventional wisdom in NYC is that you buy cheap umbrellas at kiosks (the little black ones), because you'll throw it away anyways.

I strongly disagree with this. The main reason (besides forgetting them somewhere) that people throw away umbrellas in NYC is that they are destroyed by strong NYC winds.

Just invest $10 more in a windproof umbrella: https://www.amazon.com/EEZ-Y-Windproof-Construction-Compact-Umbrella/dp/B01AU292NS/

I've had one that has lasted 10 years.

u/nialtheho · 1 pointr/volt

I bought this cheap umbrella on Amazon (link) and it's worked out fine for the few times we've needed it. It can occasionally slide forward into the door pocket but for the most part it's just fine.

u/Mutinee · 3 pointsr/Ultralight

Same question I had for OP. 3 oz Montbell is $52, and has been reviewed well (here's one review for example).

My curiosity led me to wonder if any other 3oz umbreallas were on the market, only one that I found in a few seconds of looking was the A.Brolly on Amazon. Might be worth a look /u/cascadegreen, only $30 if you wanted less of an investment.

For the record I have never tried either of these, but have thought about it recently since it friggin rains here all the time!

u/deancovert · 2 pointsr/BuyItForLife

I've had this Amazon Basics umbrella for around a year now and it has worked very well. It's most certainly not truly BIFL, as I'll likely need to replace it within the next year, but it has flipped inside out and returned to normal quite a few times, and it's convenient to throw into a backpack.

u/referenceattack · 1 pointr/AskNYC

I have this one. It's compact and holds up well in wind.

I'm pretty satisfied with my AmazonBasics umbrella. I've bought maybe 3 since I started school here in Vancouver. Left on in a lecture hall. Broke the other one because I was a bit aggressive (applied too much torque when drying off).

But for $15 it's a steal.
