This is super cool! I don't sleep, so this will keep me entertained for a bit!

1.) Something that is grey.

Well, it's more silver-ish, but it'll do! (WL)

2.) Something reminiscent of rain.

Because the sound of the rain is so peaceful :)

3.) Something food related that is unusual.

I know, it is unusual! We will be using it for liquid sugar that we make, to make our homemade Starbucks green tea :) (WL)

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!)

It's for my boyfriend, and for the aforementioned green teas we make :) I have one, and he's pretty jealous of it. Not to mention he spills so! (WL)

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!

It's called Jesus' Son. It is really...interesting to say the least, and I can guarantee not at all what you'd expect! (Unless you're expecting drugs, and the main character to be called Fuckhead!)

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!

Clever? Or wrong. Lol.

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)

Because who doesn't miss these guys?

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it.

I mean...he's beautiful, so.... <3

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?

My username is a big hint to what this movie is! It's just so happy, and makes me laugh every time I watch it (and I've been watching it multiple times every year since it came out, and I was only 5!). It's just a genuinely happy, feel-good movie, with great music :)

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.

You know, for heat/fire when there's no electricity! (WL)

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals.

It might not be the norm, but it's a gift card. Reason being instead of something specific, is with a gift card I can buy food through Amazon. Times have been a little tough around here, and we barely make it through the month money, and food wise. To know I had a little money to spend on groceries somewhere would be a major relief, and put both my boyfriend and I out of stress. I know it's not a "goal goal", but our happiness is a goal of mine, and it's been a little shakey as of late :/(WL)

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items.

Because ours is torn, oops! (WL)

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?

A nice, damn vacuum. Our current one sucks (bad pun), and I am really picky about a clean carpet. It would just be really nice to have a nice one, and that'll last instead of having to buy a new one every so often. (WL)

14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave.

Because it never occurred to me you could buy this on Amazon!

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.

Individually, smaller than a golfball!

16.) Something that smells wonderful.

I love, love, loooooove this perfume. I've had samples, but never the whole bottle! (WL)

17.) A (SFW) toy.

Not a toy per say, but it's definitely fun, and entertaining for hours! (WL)

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.

Pens! Believe it or not, these have always been my favorite, and despite the fact there's a bunch in a box, I always ended up with none! That's why people should have their own!

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.

Because I...I'm...I'm a woman possessed. Normally I'm obsessed with Sherlock but since it's not out yet, I'm catching up on Doctor Who, and I can't. Just can't stop. Been talking in a British accent on accident for days! I also freaking love hoodies so it's the best of both worlds. (WL)

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.

BECAUSE LOOK AT IT! Making tasty foods on it for the belly! (WL)

Hey, this was a lot of fun! Regardless of the outcome, thank you. Thoroughly enjoyed myself :)

EDIT: BONUS: Anything made in Oregon.

It's a whole gift set! It's like it knew! I actually added it to my WL. My favorite jam was taken off the shelves, so I'm always up for trying new ones :)

Fear cuts deeper than swords

  1. Something that is grey - Wreck This Journal! A post on /r/travel turned me on to this nifty little book that encourages you to do and look at those things you might not otherwise on your vacations and trips. Main WL
  2. Something reminiscent of Rain Freshwater Pearl Drop Earrings. This one may be a stretch, but as soon as I read the item list I thought of these. I've always liked calling them rain drops instead of tear drops. Main WL

  3. Something food related that is unusual I didn't think the frying pan on my list would really count as "unusual", hope this counts as "food related." These are a set of vitamins that I saved for my fiance; he loves his drink, and I love him to be healthy. Main WL
  4. Something on your list for someone else This pinstripe fedora is for my fiance. He's had an identical fedora since we began dating several years ago and he's incredibly sentimental about it. The poor thing is worn out though, and I'm not sure if it can be restored. If it can't, I'm hoping he'll be able to learn to love a new one so that we can retire the original respectfully. Main WL
  5. Something related to cats I hope that this counts even though I just noticed it's become unavailable! This reminds me of the book Catzilla that was read to me in elementary school and seems perfect for my own vicious kitties. Main WL
  6. A book you should read I will shamelessly endorse Karen Miller's writing everywhere I go and to everyone I meet. Seriously. She's fantastic. Poor reviews on Amazon, but I chock that up to people not understanding proper plot development. You can trust me on that, I almost have a degree. Books WL
  7. Something for less than $1.00 This was not on my list previously, but it makes me feel sympathy towards home-school moms to need such a tranquil book cover.
  8. Something that is not useful Being able to do calligraphy isn't really a useful art these days, but whenever I see those strokes on /r/penmanshipporn I feel I simply must learn how to do it. It's beautiful. And my handwriting is dreadful. Main WL
  9. A movie that everyone should watch My Neighbor Totoro! I actually just watched this myself for the first time last week! It's just one of those movies that makes you happy and leaves you with a smile. We all need those movies for the days that just get to be too much. Main WL
  10. Something useful for when the zombies attack It doubles as a weapon AND a tool. Can't always buy replacements when the undead are running amok! Main WL
  11. Something that would have a profound impact on your life Fitness has become very important to me in the last year or so and I would like very much to one day have a home gym so that I might always keep myself healthy and fit. This particular item would help me tone my stubborn tummy area and is one of my favorite tools at the gym I work out in. Main WL
  12. Add-on item Just my luck, I would discover add-on items the day this contest begins. I did add these before I saw the contest, but last night I began researching hair products and came across John Frieda. Ordered one product already, hoping to try out these others soon! Main WL
  13. The most expensive item on your list Oh boy. I guess my dream item is actually a toothbrush. My fiance has awful brushing habits. His parents just never really made him do it. Since we've gotten together I've kind of taken up a "mom" role in this area and made sure that he cleans his teeth daily, but there's damage to his gums from neglect. I did a lot of research on the products on the market and this seems like the best tool to help him get healthier gums. He's not totally on board with spending so much on a toothbrush, but I want and need him to be healthy in every way. You know? Main WL
  14. Something bigger than a breadbox The rolling massager is your best friend and your worst enemy at the gym. Using this item after your workout helps to minimize your soreness the next day, but I won't lie. It hurts a bit to use. Main WL
  15. Something smaller than a golf ball Who doesn't love jewelry for your ears? Jewelry WL
  16. Something that smells wonderful Eucalyptus oil! Main WL
  17. A SFW toy I saw this on Top Gear UK and I must have it. When asked by a friend why I would ever need such a thing, I promptly responded, “For when I go spelunking.” Toys WL
  18. Something helpful for going back to school As an English major, I have to buy a LOT of books. My poor overburdened bookshelf is in desperate need of relief. If this weren't my last year, I would absolutely have to buy another bookshelf. As it stands, I'll have to buy a new one soon regardless. Avid readers live here. Main WL
  19. Something related to my current obsession I am an unashamed, unapologetic Whovian.
    Main WL
  20. Something awe inspiring - speaking of Whovians Isn't this fantastic? I've always said the best thing after a bath is the snuggle up with the TARDIS. Gifts WL
  21. Made in Oregon - I've been doing this contest since 7 a.m. I could use this right about now

WHEW. That took way longer than I thought it would but I think I found everything but what your name is! Thanks for the contest, I had a blast!
u/Unsubscribing · 3 pointsr/tea

I personally don't know where to get a good priced kyusu or extremely high quality ones and yixing teapots so I can't really comment there, but I've done plenty of research on hohins and other similar devices that range from 120 ml - 180 ml. I deliberately chose a hohin-style device or a spouted gaiwan over a kyusu or a small yixing style teapot for easy cleaning, smaller infusions, and so I could use it like a gaiwan minus handling the lid. Maybe a gaiwan would have been better for me, but I personally didn't have experience with one and the alternatives I found were inexpensive. I know that hohins aren't on your list, but regardless I highly recommend one or a similar device.

If you're looking to buy something without waiting for shipping, I highly recommend going to a Chinatown that sells stuff, Korean supermarkets and specialty stores that contain teaware, and Japanese supermarkets. I went to a Korean supermarket today and I was able to find a fairly nice small (I estimate 120 mL) teapot + set with a fine ceramic filter for $15. I didn't buy it, but the material feels like stone rather than porcelain so I imagine it would be great at holding heat. It came with two small teacups (probably 30 mL each) and a water cooling bowl that has a spout. I honestly don't know how easy this is to clean compared to a spouted gaiwan or a normal gaiwan in general, but this looks probably about as easy to clean.

Yuuki-cha sells several hohins including one that is made of unglazed clay and has a fine mesh filter.

One of the spouted gaiwans I was considering was this, but I honestly don't know why I decided against it. There's a green version floating around and it seems that clones of this product or maybe the actual product itself are sold on Amazon with a flat shipping fee.

In the end, I ordered a spouted gaiwan from aliexpress that looks nice, but it took 43 days for it to arrive. I ordered during a Chinese national holiday though so that definitely increased the shipping time, but I don't know how much of an effect that would have overall. It took forever, it was cheaper than all of these products ($13.05 with all possible fees; free shipping). One added benefit of this one is that the rice glass windows double as markers that you can use to approximate the amount of water that you pour through into the device. Overall, this specific spouted gaiwan appears to have a better pour than the semi-cheap hohins I've handled and it lets through far less tea leaves through surprisingly. The sencha I've used doesn't have that many fine particles/dust, but it seems that only a very small amount of them go through into the tea I pour out. I've seen comparison pictures of how many tea leaves/particles pour out from a super fine ceramic filter kyusu and I'd say that this spouted gaiwan pours exactly as much without using the metal filter.

If you decide to get a hohin, one thing you might want to be careful about is getting burned when handling one. When I first had hojicha in a cafe that provided a hohin + hot water, I ended up burning myself on the pot and in the end I had to wear some gloves to prevent myself from getting burned. With the yuuki-cha unglazed hohins, it appears that the small handles are thick and displaced enough to prevent you from getting burned. With the aliexpress spouted gaiwan, the little flap of porcelain is enough for me to not get burned even when filled to the brim, but you must be careful to not touch the rest of the gaiwan aside from the flaps and lit. I'm fairly certain that another way to avoid getting burned is to not fill a hohin/gaiwan fully.

If you're planning on pouring tea for more than one person though, I'd recommend getting a kyusu too, but I don't know much about them. All I know is that they're often either porcelain, glazed clay, and sometimes stoneware and that they have three types of filters: large ceramic filters, very fine ceramic filters, and very fine stainless steel mesh (non-removable and usually cover the spout only). I do not know much about where to get a nice kyusu, where to find affortable ones, and how much they can hold, but the largest one I've ever seen for sale was an 8 oz kyusu. I've seen some that are also 200 mL too, but I don't know the average or common volumes they're usually sold in. Probably the biggest variety of kyusu you can find are sold on yuuki-cha though. For both hohins, kyusu, and similar devices, I suppose o-cha sells some super fancy ones but they're fairly expensive.

For some reason this didn't show up the first time I posted, so sorry if it shows up twice :-)

1

2 (Snow is kind of reminiscent of rain)

3 (food related because I would serve hot meals on it; unusual because it is multifunctional)

4 is for my two year old daughter because she has the normal version, but loves it so much (probably her favorite thing) that it is now in three pieces with the cover off and losing pages every day, but this one has a carry handle and is smaller for toddlers and easier to carry around.

5 You need to read it because I've been told I need to read it.

6

7 because Catwoman

8 The picture of beauty! :-)

9 Because it's a classic. . . it's sweet, has adventure, and teamwork. . . dinosaurs.

10 because it's a sword that I will always have with me because it's a keychain

11 I'm on my 4th week of P90x, and I hate yoga day because I can't do all the moves, so I don't have the desire to do it, but this would help on moves where I am not as flexible.

12 I want these so I can make necklaces with them.

13 Because it has a swingset and a playhouse and my daughter (and when he's older, my son too) would love this, and I love them very much. So seeing them happy makes me happy :-).

14

15 seeds are much smaller than golfballs

16 Nothing smells as good as a freshly bathed baby :-)

17

18 I could practice my letters and spelling (as long as each letter was only used once) :-)

19 My current obsession is being a mom! All of my other obsessions are geeky stuff, so this is perfect!

20 I know this really needs no explanation as to why it is so grand and awe-inspiring, but here are 10 good reasons. . . First of all, it's huge because it's a rug. Second of all, it is from one of the greatest movies of all time, Star Wars Episode V. Third, it looks sooooo soft (it's so fluffy, I'm going to die). Fourth, how many people do you know who have this in their home? Fifth, it has claws. Sixth, it's smiling. Seventh, you could hide under it during a home invasion. Eighth, you could cover up with it if your power went out in a snowstorm. Ninth, (since you love cats) I bet cats love laying on a wampa rug. Finally tenth, it would be the perfect addition to this boy's nursery (I've shown this picture a lot on RAoA, but I can't help it. He's too cute!)

Bonus Item 1 will be PMd to you when I found out your real name, not if but when :-)

Bonus Item 2 Looks yummy!

fear cuts deeper than swords

This was super fun by the way! Thanks!

/u/MeishkaD said that my entry disappeared, so here it is again. I've deleted my previous entry now (after you said it disappeared), just to make sure it doesn't show up twice.

1.) Something that is grey. [Not on wishlist]

2.) Something reminiscent of rain. [Not on wishlist]

3.) Something food related that is unusual.

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!)

This is for my classroom mostly. One of the projects the student's like to do is making board games. They like using various types of die, but when we made cardboard ones, they fall apart.

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!

I can't give too great a reference. This book is on my wishlist, as I've not read it, after all. It's supposed to be really funny though, with an interesting story. The downside is that getting the whole series is too expensive.

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! [Not on wishlist]

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)

These are pretty awesome.

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. [Not on wishlist]

I've wanted one of these for ages, but they're not useful enough to justify.

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? [Not on wishlist - I own it]

It's incredibly funny and almost everyone has seen the film it's based on. A lot of people have never even seen a parody movie, so it's a new genre to a lot of people and thus a new experience.

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.

A bit of a different item than normal. When the zombies attack, we're going to need to be well rested. Baseball bats and the like are common enough, but a good pillow is hard to find.

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. [Not on wishlist, as Amazon.co.uk item]

A book about learning to become a Primary School teacher. After my current teaching job, I want to go back and train as one in my home country.

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. [Not on wishlist - the base game is on wishlist].

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?

Playstation 4. It's not on my wishlist as I think anyone would ever buy it, but more to remind myself that it's region-free and only $400 in the US if I can get enough giftcards someday. In my home country it's about $550. The why is mostly Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV - both series which I've gained a lot of enjoyment from. There's also that some of my favorite series such as Disgaea are Playstation-exclusive.

14.) Something bigger than a bread box.

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.

16.) Something that smells wonderful.

17.) A (SFW) toy.

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.

(For reading digital textbooks on)

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.

Disgaea D2. My current obsession has been trying to convert my old Disgaea 3 save, which has 120 hours and my Disgaea 4 save which has 95 hours, so that I can use it on another PS3.

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand. [Not on wishlist.. but it should be]

The toilet throne. It's amazing that someone has thought of it, if nothing else. Now you can feel like a Queen or King, while going to the restroom.

These are so fun

edit: also all of this is already on my WL, i forgot to say that. EDIT: I stopped being lazy and came back and found the ones I was missing, so they're not on my WL but I specified that by each of them

1. Something grey I guess this is really silver... oops.

2. Reminiscent of the rain Not on my WL

3. Something food related that's unusual

4. Something for someone else - My girlfriend had a stroke last year and when she was in the hospital on all her medication she was telling me she wanted a Pooh Bear pillow pet and her grandma got her a "happy napper" in the shape of a bee or something and she spent days telling me she
needed a Pooh Bear pillow pet and I've looked everywhere for one for her since last July but I can't find one!

5. A book you need to read - This is the book A Christmas Story was kind of based on and that's my favorite Christmas movie because it's
hilarious.

6. Under $1
Not on my WL

7. Something related to cats

8. Something not useful but so beautiful I must have it

9. A movie everyone must watch - My best friend saw this a few years ago on TV and when she was telling me about it I thought it sounded so stupid but she made me come over and watch it anyway and it's seriously the funniest movie I've ever seen. Anyone who likes movies that are kind of stupid-funny absolutely needs to see it because I laugh so hard every single time.

10. Something that would be useful when zombies attack - An external charger in case your phone dies when you're not around somewhere you can plug it in when you're out fighting or hiding from zombies would be super important so you can stay in contact with people and make sure they're not turned into/being eaten by zombies

11. Something that has had an impact on your life - Highlighting things for school so I can find them later has been more helpful than listening during class. Except I go crazy and highlight the entire page.

12. An add-on item

13. Most expensive item - My explanation for this is the biggest "first world problem" in the universe, but oh well. I'm a college student and my current computer is a desktop so I can't take it to class with me or work on stuff before class in the student lounge and I can't lay in bed and watch Netflix and when I move across the country soon after graduation, I'm gonna have to pack it all up and move it with me and it's gonna take up so much space and it's just such a pain. Plus, this computer is getting kind of old and slow and it'll randomly just turn off and it's so annoying and I've tried everything to fix it and everything that people who have looked at it have told me haven't been able to help and I'd really rather just get a new computer because it would be so much easier for the future. Wow, that sounded so whiny.

14. Something bigger than a bread box

15. Something smaller than a golf ball

16. Something that smells wonderful

17. SFW toy

18. Something that would be helpful going back to school. - I have class 3 hours a day, 5 days a week and I get starving sitting there that long so I always try to take something with me to eat, but it's so annoying to try and find something to put it in or have it get crushed in the packaging and stuff.

19. Something related to your current obsession

20. Something so amazing you must see it - IT'S A BIG BOX OF GEL PENS, NOTHING IS COOLER! I remember when they sold them at the store by my grandma's when I was like 8 and they were like $2.79 each so I could never get any, when I finally could get them they weren't cool anymore but I still loved them.

BONUS - Something made in Oregon. *Not on my WL

1. Something grey

2. Thunderstorm MP3

3. Take your pick just scroll down

4. For my baby because I want a cool ass baby haha! Also, daddy will like it!

5. The Hater trilogy, linked is the first of the 3. This book keeps you on your toes. It's an amazing apocalyptic book that has immense imagery. All I can say is read it.

6. Nail tape, it's not nail polish, just decoration.

7. Cats! There is a cat in the design.

8. So pretty!!

9. Because it'll always put a smile on your face!

10. Survival Backpack Has enough items to help a group of 4 survive for 72 hours. This will give the people with the pack a 72 hour head start from everyone else to establish a safe spot. Everyone else is trying to find essentials now getting stuck and eventually taken over by a hoard, whereas the person with the pack doesn't need to waste time getting food, water, and some medical kit.

11. Cookware My boyfriend and I have been living with his parents for a while now and we are getting our own apartment soon (all utilities included, yay!!). His parents decided not to pay the gas company the $500 deposit to have it turned on because we live in the south and don't need to heat our apartment, we would only use gas for cooking. Because of that I haven't had a meal cooked on/in a stove in about a year. We either eat things fresh, microwaved, in a crock pot, or fried. I am sick and fucking tired of it. With the cookware I'll be able to change my eating habits because I won't be limited to what things I can cook with. Also, when I was a little girl, I never ate at a kitchen table because we didn't have one. We would eat meals separately, and I always longed for the family dinner atmosphere. My goal is to have a family dinner at least 3 times a week. I know the cookware won't help me achieve that goal, but it puts me one step closer.

12. Baby mittens

13. Soda Stream It's the 2nd most expensive item, the survival pack above is, but the Soda Stream is my dream item. My ex roommate had one and it's amazing! Also, I'm pregnant and can't have caffeine, but I love the bubbles so much!!! With the Soda Stream, I'll be able to make anything carbonated!!! I LOVE mixing in the Crystal Light powered packets, yummy!!

14. Cute storage cube

15. Owl Necklace

16. Chocolate

17. Beautiful Katmari

18. Pens

19. I'm obsessed with my unborn baby. But then again, aren't most expecting mothers??

20. Instant smoke ring machine! Does the awesomeness of instant smoke rings need to be described!?!

/u/buck54321 's Cold Ramen

Ingredients

  • 1 - 3.5 oz. package Sapparo Ichiban ramen, original flavor (Other brands may work, but this is the one I use)

  • Soy sauce

  • 1 T. white vinegar

  • Ice

  • 1/2 t. sesame oil

  • 4 to 6 leaves of cabbage, Napa cabbage or bok choi

  • 1 small turnip

  • 1 large egg

  • Rice seasoning

  • 1/2 a medium sized tomato

  • a couple inches of a standard cucumber, a little more if using the thin seedless kind

  • a radish, preferably a milder variety if available in your area or garden

  • (optional) Ground cayenne pepper

  • (optional) ham, steak, or chicken

  • (optional) 1 hot pepper

Start about 3 1/2 cups of water in a medium sauce pot.

Grab a large bowl. Add vinegar, 1/2 T. soy sauce, and seasoning packet from ramen noodles. Set aside. This will be your broth.

While waiting for the water to boil, grab another medium sauce pot or small frying pan and add sesame oil and up to a tablespoon of soy sauce. Cut up cabbage and turnips into reasonably sized strips for a single bite. If using Napa or bok choi, separate the more delicate green leaves and add these later in the frying process. If you desire some heat, cut and de-seed a hot pepper. Add to pan and cover. Fry over medium low heat for about 5 minutes. Remove cover and increase heat to medium. Fry until all liquid is evaporated and you have just started to form a brown layer on the bottom of the pan. It should begin to give off a nutty aroma. Remove veggies from pan and stick them in the freezer to cool. Add a dash of water to the hot pan and add the deglaze to the broth bowl.

Begin heating frying pan over medium heat. Allow it to get good and hot. Scramble egg with 1/2 t. soy sauce and a few dashes of rice seasoning. Do not scramble too hard. The eggs are better if they are a little flat. Add egg all at once to frying pan and fry into an egg patty. Once eggs have solidified, smash them down with the spatula to flatten them by squeezing out the air. Fry to a nice golden brown on each side. Remove from pan and stick in the freezer.

Around this time, I will usually have a good boil going in the water. Remove 2/3 cup of boiling water and add to the broth bowl. Add noodles to remaining boiling water and set a timer for 4 minutes (not 3 minutes as the package calls for). Stir noodles a couple times during cooking. Add a good amount of ice to the hot broth and stir to cool. Leave ice in until just before assembling all ingredients. Side note: I have asked myself many times why I boil the water just to cool it back down. Why don't I just add cold water. While I still do debate this sometimes, I have come up with the following. Boiling the water removes any chlorination or other off flavors that might be in my municipal water supply. It also ensure quick and complete dissolving of the seasoning.

While your noodles cook, cut up the tomato, removing any excess seeds (the texture of the seedy goo is not great in the ramen). Cut up the cucumber, removing the skin and seeds. Cut up the radish into small slivers or strips.

If using ham or other meat, it should be pre-cooked, cold, and ready to cut. Do that now.

Once your timer goes off, remove noodles and cool under cold water using a strainer.

Assemble all things. Add some cayenne if you'd like. Enjoy.

I am not the OP, but here are a few of my suggestions: iphone case with a yorkie on it? A cute yorkie sweater?

A tea gift set that will get you an overwhelming amount of results on amazon. They have this tea that is flower and leaves tied together in a little bundle and you put it in this glass tea pitcher and it blooms. I got it a few years ago and it was pretty neat to check out. http://www.amazon.com/Numi-Organic-Flowering-Handcrafted-Mahogany/dp/B000FFIL92/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417715652&sr=8-1&keywords=tea+gift+set

This yorkie tea cup is cute!!! I am not into that keep calm fade, but I like this. http://www.amazon.com/Large-Bistro-Ceramic-Coffee-Yorkies/dp/B00MI6I1DW/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1417715951&sr=8-9&keywords=yorkie+tea

You could get her some American snacks that people serve with tea like cookies and that sort of thing. I don't have any suggestions of what kinds of cookies or American snacks unrelated to tea?

u/AlfLives · 3 pointsr/Homebrewing
  • Oatmeal stout brew kit
  • added about 100g of wet grains and 20g of EVOO into a food processor and processed until fairly smooth
  • used this recipe and substituted 100g flour for the grains, but used 10g less water since the grains were wet from the brew. Ended up having to add more flour anyway.
  • Sprinkled whole grains on the top to make it fancy. This was a good decision! It added a little more crunch and some strong flavors as a nice treat.
  • The bread is really good! It tastes kind of like wheat bread, but with richer and more complex flavors. It's slightly sweet as well from the remaining sugars in the grains.

Okay based on that I'm going to suggest a few things you could add to your wish list. I promise I won't be offended if you don't like them, but you might find something you're interested in. :)

Tea things:

First for cute tea things, I highly recommend the flowering tea pot I received it as an Arbitrary Day gift and it's awesome. The teas are delicious and most importantly, to me, the tea pot is sooo cute.

Mana Tea infuser a lot of people have this on their wish lists. I should add it to mine too.

Tea Sampler There are several samplers with different types of tea from this company and a bunch of others. You should look around for sure.

Hello Kitty Stuff:

Add on Hello Kitty alarm clock

This Hello Kitty toy It's adorable.

Mug

Ceramic travel mug

History related:

Hitler Youth This looks like it would be a fascinating read.

The Roads of the Roma: A PEN Anthology of Gypsy Writers

Gypsies Under the Swastika

Rouxbe is an online cooking school and GREAT. My high school paid for everyone in cooking class to have one and they are highly educational and you could learn literally anything you need or want to know. I looked it up and it's a bit pricey ($299 initial fee and $5 every month after wards) However the better you can cook yourself the more inclined you'll probably be to eat at home. Get more comfortable in the kitchen, watch foodnetwork so you can see the techniques people are using. If you have no idea what to cook, find a few ingredients in your kitchen and look up a recipe with those ingredients.
I also feel like having a good spice cabinet is ESSENTIAL lol. You can get a beginner spice set from amazon that has most of the spices you will need in day to day cooking example
Get a cook book and aim to make one thing from the book a week. Any of Rachel ray's 30 minute cook books are easy and fast. Good luck with your new lifestyle!

Buying pepperoni can be tricky. Normally we'll just grab whatever pack is at the grocery market. Luckily for me I have an Italian market near me and they make their own pepperoni. Its my go to choice as its better than the name brands like Hormel. But there are other options such as buying pepperoni from Amazon.
Check it out! I have listed these from best rating to worst rating and there are some more than these on Amazon if you look at a specific pepperoni and then under the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" or "Sponsored Products", but Ive tried to list the most popular ones. Put the pepperoni on your holiday wish list!

I'm on a similar track. I eat a lot of eggs now, and yeah those have a decent amount of fat, but they're super filling. My other biggest protein sources are beans, lentils, whey powder, greek yogurt, all of which are virtually fat-free.

A couple meal options:

"Bean mash huevos taco salad":

  • 5 oz bean mash (i make it with nonfat refried beans, black beans, onion, tomato, spices. sizzle the diced onion and tomato; add beans to heat 'em up and mix spices in. 5 minutes, i always have some around)

  • salsa, hot sauce
  • 2 fried eggs (spray on oil will keep the fat down)
    -1 oz cheddar, shredded
  • crunchy greens

    Misir Wot

  • 2tbsp berbere seasoning (this one is fine on amazon)
  • a whole bag of dried lentils (soaking overnight makes them less gassy; or just go for it by boiling them on the spot)

  • diced onion

  • 1 can diced tomatoes

Boil the lentils till they're soft. In a big saucepan, saute onion then add tomato, cook down a bit, then add all the cooked lentils, mix in the berbere seasoning, then blend it all together. It's spicy, delicious, filling, and ridiculously healthy. Salt to taste.

My other advice-- if you're not overshooting your calories, just embrace the fat if you need to get that protein! Probably better than carbs.

I got this set as a gift about five years ago and I found it to be very helpful for a beginner. It has all the basic ingredients and instructions to get you start and then you can just replenish supplies from there. Most grocery stores I've been in carry basic ingredients (nori, sushi rice, rice vinegar, sushi vinegar), but if not I'm sure an Asian market will carry everything you need.

It takes some work and practice, but you will be amazed at how much delicious sushi you can make at home for a fraction of the price. Good luck!

Happy Birthday!!!!! And thanks for the great contest :)

and well I've always wanted to try American Sweets

Happy Zambambo!

This is the mouse I use for my pc gaming and I love it. My bf loves these sets and always ends up needing them. My bf is also a big hot sauce lover and something like this would be perfect.

Hello world

u/Bhayes547 · 17 pointsr/TrollXChromosomes

One of the best presents my girlfriend ever got me was a kit for us to make sushi together. We got to spend time together making it and got sushi as a bonus. If you enjoy sushi as well maybe think about something like this.

u/FridayGt · 2 pointsr/Homebrewing

Primary:
Trippel Around The World - DFH Recipe (with minor tweaks)

  • Substituted 2lbs of Chinese rock sugar with 1 lb light candi sugar, 1 lb dark candi sugar, 4oz sweet ginger candi

Red Ale'ish - Extract Kit Zombie Apocolypse Double Bloodbath Red Ale

    Secondary:

    Bottle Conditioning/Force Carbonating:
Honey Wheat Ale - Extract Kit Sticky Paws

Oatmeal Stout - Extract Kit Mush Mouth

    Kegs/Bottles:
Abbey Dubbel - Mr. Beer recipe Kit (pleasantly surprised so far)

    Belgian Wit - Summer Ale

Honey Wheat Ale - Extract Kit Sticky Paws

    In planning:

Maybe everyone in r/homebrewing can help me with this. The brews I have coming up are all going to be relatively strong in flavor and ABV. Can anyone out there suggest a nice even, balanced ale that'll go down smooth? My Belgian was great for just that, but it's numbers are dwindling rapidly! Lol. Maybe an Oktoberfest.

I'M GOING ON VACATION!!!????
Oh, not really. Hah, I knew that.
I would go to France! At Hotel Le Bristol, France's #1 hotel in Paris.
Oh, no, I'd go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and stay in the hotel.
I'd take my best friends.
I'd take sweets, of course

u/Mouseicle · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I think this is super fun because I'm in the UK, and I LOVE trying different foods and candies etc from other cultures - and I have some friend who went NUTS over saltwater taffy when I managed to get some, so I would have an American candy night with them :-D

Oh, and Sunday Funday!

OH! And tiebreaker number is 73.

u/A_Friendly_Shark · 7 pointsr/Cooking

Mine is kind of similar!

I usually have frozen rice on hand, so I'll nuke a portion of it in the microwave for 2 min with an egg cracked in. Sprinkle some katsuo fumi furikake and green onion, drizzle some sesame oil, and drip a small amount of soy sauce (the furikake has some saltiness to it) on the rice. If I'm feeling naughty, I'll put a pat of butter on the hot rice to add some extra unctuous-ness. Stir it all up and eat with a side of kimchi!

Oh dear, I'm making myself drool...

Note: these seasonings are also great in a bowl of steel cut oats for a savory Asian-inspired breakfast!

u/Cupcake_Kat · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Just gonna put this here...

But it is so yummy!!! I personally love a local roll called the passion roll, with tempura shrimp, tuna and mango!

u/hairy_gogonuts · 1 pointr/Finland

So are you abroad and the teacher is Finnish and he's leaving back to Finland? Maybe he has stayed a year or two abroad? Any details would be helpful.

While Sauna is very Finnish I doubt it makes good presents, especially for a male. Sauna hat, perhaps?. Here's another. It's funny, it's got the red star of Soviet Finland (SF).

Maybe something more generic, like Finnish chocolate

u/Newbosterone · 3 pointsr/EDC

I understand the red pepper flakes are free, but there are other options. I love how the Sriracha is "TSA Friendly".

u/NotYourTypicalGod · 5 pointsr/Finland

I would recommend wiener nougat. It's classy and usually found in fins Christmas bags as well. Also geisha of course. Don't know if these are snacks tho, at least not savory.

Here's couple links if you're an American,

I made misir wot today, which is an Ethiopian red lentils dish.

  • med onion, diced
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1-2 tablespoons berbere
  • 2 - 2 1/2 cups of water
  • 1/2 can of tomato paste

Saute the onions in oil (or you can water saute them as I did) til translucent. Add the garlic and saute for a couple of minutes. Add the tomato paste and the berbere and cook for two or three minutes. If it is too thick, add a little water. Salt as needed.

Clean the red lentils and add to the onion/garlic/berbere mix with 2 cups of water. Stirring occasionally, simmer for 15-20 minutes or till lentils are cooked. You may need to add water if it cooks away too quickly.

Since I didn't have injera (and don't know how to make it yet), I ate it with brown rice on the side.

I've eaten misir wot many times, but only at restaurants. Today was my first time to make it, and I'm happy with it!
u/TriggerHippie0202 · 1 pointr/vegan

I love African spices, since going vegan I've got quite the spice addiction.

Berbere I get a lot of them from Amazon.

There is also this place: https://dualspices.com/spices/ they have everything under the sun.

u/buddhist32 · 6 pointsr/hotsauce

I would highly recommend this zombie cajun sauce sampler. I got it for this past Christmas and really loved all four sauces. The garlic is my favorite, but they're all really tasty!

u/beardedricky · 1 pointr/keto

I've really been loving Whisps lately. You can make bruschetta out of them, dip them in wholly guacamole, make nacho's, add crunch to salads, tons of stuff.

Currently the variety 3-pack isn't terrible on amazon since when I see them in the grocery store they're usually about $3-$4 and it's only ever the Parmesan version.

丸京 = brand Marukyo

桃山 = Momoyama = characters literally mean "Peach Mountain"

I see this package in their Aji no Meisaku 18pcs product picture.

For sale on Amazon: "5 types of traditional Japanese sweet snacks, in a mini-form (18 snacks in total): Chestnut, Momo Yama, Milk Cake, Maccha Bun, Soba (Buckwheat) Bun"

This Amazon description says "Japanese Steamed Cake ... Momoyama (Sweet Red Beans & White Kidney Beans)"

Edit: Basically it's a traditional steamed cake with filling. That filling is sweet red beans and white kidney beans which is called "momoyama".

u/0x0000ff · 3 pointsr/Bento

Furikake is rice topping, there are many types.

I really like red shiso furikake but it's a bit different. The one in the picture looks like katsuobushi furikake.

I was doing some research on pepperoni and came across this:

u/tkbujo · 3 pointsr/vegan

If I recall correctly, the only vegan instant ramen is some of those by a brand Koyo (comes in various flavors and they’re not bad!), the cup miso ramen from Mr. McDougall’s, and the Nissin brand oriental. The Maruchan brand version says it includes soy sauce which means there’s a high chance it has fish oils/stock incorporated. (There’s also another “vegetarian” ramen by Traditional that contains soy sauce, but it’s chicken flavored.)

u/ekaceerf · 2 pointsr/slowcooking

I bought this one I was trying to recreate a lentil recipe from my local Ethiopian restaurant. Mine tasted similar, but mine was just much more spicey.
