I’m seeing that people are suggesting B450 boards. While that is fine, I would like to point out that it would require a BIOS update and the BIOS update on MSI and other models have major problems. Plus, you are giving up on future PCIe 4.0 and OC features.
Also, the OP does not prioritize Multi-Core performance, so the Ryzen 5 3600 would definitely be a better value-for-money choice if 1080p Gaming is the main focus. The 3600, also, will deliver above average performance in moderate editing and workstation performance. This $420 bundle at MicroCenter will provide you with a mid-ranged X570 Motherboard as will as a capable CPU to minimize bottlenecks.

GPU: I really don’t know what to do here. I would definitely recommend 5700XTs for what you’re doing. However, all 3rd Party graphics card models are out of stock nearly everywhere. Definitely don’t purchase a blower card, as other models offer better base and boost clocks and thermals. I would personally wait for the MSI Mech OC, PowerColor Red Devil, or Sapphire Pulse to come. 16GB is pretty much recommend for many newer titles and workstation applications. But really, RAM frequency is important to Ryzen, and 3600MHz seem to be the “sweet spot” for 3rd-Gen Ryzen. Plus, I went with RGB RAM as they are relatively cheap currently.

A lot of people will suggest this model for value-to-performance, and they aren’t wrong. In 1TB NVMe SSDs, the 660p holds a position near the top for value. It will provide you with relatively fast load and boot speeds. True, there are better SSDs out there, but you really don’t need more than this for gaming and browsing and even lighter workstation. Plus, 1TB of SSD Storage is more than enough for your most played games and the OS.

So this is a MicroCenter PowerSpec branded power supply. This is a 650W 80+ Gold rated unit and it should be enough to power everything. I would not recommend anything lower that this. 80+ Gold is pretty much the standard in $1,000+ values PCs. Definitely don’t get a generic PSU though, as those may kill the system in case of an error or capacitor failure.

This is pretty much the standard of the HERO series from Logitech. The G502 has a 16,000 DPI range and a multi-button layout.

Again, this is the standard of Logitech mechanical keyboards. The G610 has Red Switches as well as a full keyboard layout. It should be pretty comfortable to play on.

So yeah, this is my suggested layout. It should run at around $1700-1750 total.

This article is pretty recent and does a good job explaining a lot of the technical side of mechanical keyboards.

I'm not as knowledgeable and so can't talk about the nitty-gritty like the article does, but having used one since the summer (this one though I bought it for $80), I can say I definitely found them to be worth the price.

It's a bit of a weird start to get used to them, and the first thing I noticed was that they required a bit more intentionality than normal keyboards (I felt like I was pushing down a lot more than before). However, what's nice about them is that even though it feels like you have to put in more effort initially, I realized I was doing a lot less "mushing" of keys and that I made typos way less frequently because I knew exactly what I was typing when I was pushing down keys.

Going from a normal keyboard to a mechanical keyboard was a gradual shift, but I definitely noticed the benefits slowly. Going back to a normal keyboard after getting used to a mechanical one was like night and day, however. During finals when I spend a lot more time in my school library, I noticed that I actually had such a hard time writing anything because the keyboards were just so flimsy! I got so used to the weight, the noise, and the feel of a mechanical keyboard that the rubber-dome ones felt like I was typing on mashed potatoes. I thought about bringing my keyboard to the library, but the noise would have bothered others so I just ended up doing a lot more work at home.

On that note, a lot of mechanical keyboards have "click-clack" noises, but quite a few don't, so you can pick out what types you want. That's the other thing that's very nice is that you can customize and find out what types of key switches fit best for you instead of just a "one-size-fits-all" of the normal ones. I personally found that I liked Brown switches because the noise was actually a positive thing for me (they help me tell when I've typed a character) and are really soothing for when I'm doing a lot of work. Others don't like any noise at all, and there's at least two types I can think of that fit that as well. Some like their keyboards to have more resistance and some don't like any at all, and there's a switch for each preference.

Anyways, that was kind of long-winded, but hopefully some of that helped. As someone who's always heard that I should get one since 2010 and finally made the purchase a few months ago, I really wished I bought one sooner because oh my god they just feel so much better than regular keyboards. I will literally never buy a normal keyboard in my life ever again!

One of my go to keyboard suggestions for anyone looking to get into mechanicals or for people on a tight budget.

Probably one of my favorite Gateron Red switch boards for its price. There are some sacrifices made though, you're getting exposed switches, this shouldn't matter as long as you're not a messy person however.
If you want a smooth switch that's not going to be terribly loud and clicky I do suggest this. Gateron Reds have to be my favorite out of all of the red switches I've tried, they're just smooth and provide a nice typing experience.

If you don't mind spending a little extra here's one of my personal favorite boards that comes in several different switches all being authentic Cherry's.
Very desk space friendly, nice design, & portable if that's important to you.

You did mention that illuminating lights is one thing you'd like, this is my last suggestion and definitely something different if you're new to mechanicals as this isn't a board I'd normally suggest to anyone new.
Motospeed 61 uses Kailh BOX White switches, it's a switch that's more comparable to the Cherry MX Blue so it's a tactile switch.
I'd argue that they're not near as loud but provide the tactile click that some people prefer but I find these to be a better switch for gaming in my opinion.

In terms of Cherry MX switches for an absolute beginner -

For gaming you want a linear switch for faster click registration and easier key presses. (Cherry MX Red)

For typing you want a clicky, tactile switch so you can feel the key presses and possibly make less mistakes. (Cherry MX Blue)

Cherry MX Browns are usually the middle-ground and preference for people who don't like the loudness or the full tactility of the Blues, but still want some tactility over the linear Reds. It does well for both typing and gaming.

Different manufacturers (Cherry, Kailh, ALPS, Zealios, etc) will sometimes call their switches different colors but the consistent factors are usually tactile, linear, or clicky. It can seem kind of crazy at first with all the different names but as long as you can recognize the base type of switch that you want, everything else will follow pretty easily.

The second common factor is switch weight, this is very much subject to personal preference so I would highly suggest trying some sample switches first but even then it doesn't really compare to using a board full of them. For my own personal experience I've tried all different kinds of weights and while I like the feel of heavy switches a lot, I don't think that they hold up to extended periods of use unless you reaaally like heavy switches. They can be tiring on your fingers and it's not something I think most people would enjoy powering through. There's not really any benefit to going heavier other than your own personal enjoyment so if you feel like it would take getting used to, I would just go with the regular weight switches.

If you're wondering why Kailh in particular, the switches that they make are very similar to Cherry MX's but they're smoother and just feel so much better than their Cherry MX counterpart (Most Kailh switches are named the same as the Cherry MX versions). They also have a new-ish version of their switches called the BOX and all you really have to know about the BOX vs regular is that the BOX's just feel smoother than the already smoother regular Kailh switches.

If you're going to be gaming and typing I would go with the Kailh BOX Browns, it's the same thing as the Burnt Oranges just not so heavy. :

Please also be aware that you can't hot-swap switches in the KBparadise V80 and if you get the Kailh's you either have to solder them into a board or buy a hot-swappable board.

This Team Wolf Zhuque board, although not the prettiest with the lights on, is really well built and the metal casing really makes a difference in how your keys feel. It is hot-swappable meaning you can just use the included tool or tweezer out the switches and swap them to whatever you want.

The only other hot-swap board on the market I'm aware of is the twice as expensive and half as built Glorious PC Gaming Race board. It looks nicer and it's full RGB but the plastic housing feels very cheap compared to the Zhuque.

To sum it up real quick, if you're going with KBparadise V80 go with Cherry MX Brown. If you're going with the Kailh BOX Browns get the Team Wolf Zhuque.

tldr; get an HHKB

Ok so I just built my first gaming PC and I'm looking to replace my 4 year old $35 Saitek keyboard. Budget this time will be around $100 unless it's amazeballs and perfect for me, then maybe another $50. I live in the USA and there aren't many stores that carry mechanicals that I can try. The only ones I've found in stores are the Logitech G910 Orion Spark, which I liked the look and features of but the keys felt like any other keyboard, a TT eSports Poseidon Z that was alright, but I want a wrist rest and red or white lights (my computer is a red/black theme with red LEDs), and a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate that was my favorite for feel, but I've heard bad things about their keyboards and would go for the chroma if I took it. I've also been looking at the Cougar k700 because I like it's styling, the extra raised wrist rest, and few extra macro keys.

Before this computer I had been mostly using laptops as my computers, so I'm used to my wrists being about level with the keys and want a wrist rest (but I could always buy a separate one). I would like clear feedback that my keypress has been registered, but an audible click isn't really necessary.

I'm open to the idea of going to a tenkeyless, but it's not necessary.

TL;DR - Want a keyboard for gaming that will go with my PC's red/black/white theme. Limited switch samples, liked the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate the best. Wrist rest is favored. Newegg is favored ($20 gift card). Open to TK. Budget around $100 USD. Will buy in USA.

Hey everyone, I´m new to this subreddit but I know people here is nice, so a little back story, I've had the CM Devastator II combo since i built my PC (3 years ago), now I think it's time for an upgrade, i was looking for an affordable RGB mechanical keyboard but I'm a bit short on cash atm.

What price range are we talking?

If you have some money to spare, I would recommend Razer gear. It's some of the best out there.

The Razer DeathAdder costs 50$ and is probably the world's most popular gaming mouse.


The Razer BlackWidow costs 70$ and has mechanical keys. I love this because you have a noticable "click" when pressing in the keys which makes more very dynamic and precise gameplay.

In addition to this, you need a mousepad. It doesn't have to be a good/expensive brand, but make sure it's LARGE. It recently bought a huge mousepad and it is sooo nice being able to play without being scared to roll over the edge. Lower DPS improves your aim, so you may have to move around your mouse a lot from time to time. This is a gamechanger.

If you don't have 120$+ to spare on equipment, just go on Amazon and search for "gaming mouse / gaming keyboard". Most results will be very affordable and still cheap.

For example, I am currently using this gaming mouse for only 14$. It's perfectly fine in my opinion and quite nice.

The biggest question you want to answer for any mechanical keyboard is which type of switch you want.

Most exclusive gamers like linear switches, which let you double tap very effectively. These are usually sold as 'red' switches.

There's also clicky switches, which have a sharp bump and audible click when the key actuates. Sold as 'blue' switches.

Then there's tactile switches, which have a lighter bump when the key actuates (they're as quiet as reds). They're sold as browns, and are somewhat of an intermediate between red and blue.

Generally speaking, blues are for exclusively typing, reds for exclusively gaming, and browns are good for a mixture. I'd recommend going to a Fry's/Microcenter/Best Buy (in that order) and finding which of the three you prefer on a in store model. Brands vary between their implementation of clickly/tactile/linear, but not too much.

Then, figure out whether you need programmable macros and such. I usually play games that really don't require them, so it's a non issue for me.

If so, that tends to be the one feature that gaming marketed keyboards have over the others at this price point. Coolermaster is generally the only gaming themed company I respect much. Their stuff is well priced, and makes some cool innovations. And their keys have a standard layout.

If no, then you have a ton of good options and budget plays a big role. You could get the wireless Anne pro. The rgb Ducky Shine. Or the excellently budgeted Magicforce 68. You could get a WASD keyboard and completely customize individual keycap color.

Any of those would be good options, as well as more but it's probably already overwhelming.

I wouldnt worry about it. iKBC makes high-quality boards. "Real" cherry switches are no better than many of their competitiors, such as kailh switches and gateron switches, and generally tend to feel worse. If you do a search of this forum (which I strongly recommend, so that you learn more about mech boards in general), you'll find that most serious enthusiasts do not like the feel of cherry switches unless they have modified them in some way - such as taking them apart to apply lube, or swapping them into the housing of one of their competitors. "Real Cherry" is a marketing gimmick, and if this is your only concern, you can save money by getting a "knock-off" board for much less.

As for stabilizers: this is a case of you get what you pay for. Off-the-shelf boards with great stabilizers include: vortex vibe (60% + numpad), and the vortex race (75%, no numpad), but these tend to retail for around $130 USD. Other more expensive brands, such as leopold, have great stabilizers too. Rattly stabs are easy to fix, in any case.

Other brands you might look into: Coolermaster makes solid entry-level full-sized boards, and they have excellent stabilizers, and does the brand Ducky. If you are really, truly, concerned, I would spend the time to do some keyword searches in this forum. I dont mean this offensively, but a lot of your concerns are fairly noobish and reading up on what other people say will probably assuage them, and make you feel better about spending money on whatever board you eventually do get (I speak from experience on this). Your keyboard needs are fairly straightforward, so you should be able to get a solid board that meets them without spending more than you want to.

I need help making a purchase decision. I bought my first mechanical a few months ago. It was a $40-something off-brand with Outemu blue switches, and OH MY GOD was it a breath of fresh air compared to the mushy swamp keyboard I'd been struggling with since college. Clickety clackety never going backety.

Now I want to replace my work keyboard. I prefer something sedate and professional looking, and I really like having a number pad. I've pretty much settled on Cherry brown switches this time, but I'm tossing around a couple of different models in the sub-$100 category. The thoughts of /r/mechanicalkeyboards are welcome:

• Rosewill RK-9000. A pretty popular entry-level board, and I know the brand.
  
• CoolerMaster Storm QuickFire XT. CM's seem to have a decent reputation at this price point, and I've read rumors that the QuickFires are made in the same factory as some Filco models.
  
• iKBC C104. This is the model I'm most curious about. It looks like a nicely built keyboard with higher quality key caps, but I can't find much information about the brand other than some references to a MassDrop sale a while back. What's the deal here?

I've been using a Logitech Wireless K750 for going on a year and a half now, and I'm about ready to put it through a wall. When it isn't interrupting fullscreened applications to warn me that it's only at 60% battery left and might die at any second (even though its battery has lasted the entire time I've had it just fine), it's interrupting fullscreened applications to warn me that it isn't sitting three inches under an industrial heating lamp and therefore doesn't have sufficient light. I'm thinking of replacing it with a mechanical keyboard.


I primarily use my keyboard for typing, not for gaming. I've only been a PC gamer for around 5 years, and have almost 15 years of experience using controllers prior to that, so I've always just stuck with what's natural to me. I do, however, do a good amount of writing, so the keyboard certainly gets used for normal typing a lot. I've done a modest amount of research over the last few days, and have come to the conclusion that I should get Cherry MX Blue switches, whatever keyboard I ultimately get, as they are designed for typing over gaming.


I've narrowed it down to three choices that I'm looking at. I'm just looking for a bit of input about what you all think would be the best.

Pros:

• This is the only one of the three I'm considering that has the actual Windows logo on the Windows key instead of the company's logo. Very minor complaint, but I think that's slightly on the tacky side.

(All links are Amazon) These are things not everyone thinks of, but I really love having as part of my setup.
If it appeals to you, you could ask for a gaming keypad/gameboard whatever you want to call it. The famous ones are made by Razer and Logitech but I got a 20$ one that I love. Gives me so much room on my mousepad and is very comfortable to use.

Another good one is a mouse bungee. A popular one would be the Zowie Camade, but there are cheaper ones as well. I have one that is also a USB hub.

Yeah if you want really solid keyboard you have to pay more money, but that doesn't mean cheaper keyboards can't be still pretty good. I'm not the guy you responded to above btw. If you are a keyboard enthusiast then you would care about the small details, but if you're just and average person then they cheap boards are good enough. I would recommend Redragon though though. My K552 with blues was pretty crappy and the keys weren't very solid, but that's just my opinion. I would recommend the DREVO Gramr which I am typing this on right now or if you want to go smaller then I would recommend the Magicforce 68 with Gateron reds. The general consensus that I have noticed on r/MechanicalKeyboards is that Cherry is the best, followed by Gateron and then Outemu and the rest of the clones.

I've used Rosewill and Velocifire mechanicals for work. They run in the $40-100 price range and feel pretty good. The one I'm using right now at work is the Velocifire VM01 it's $40. The browns they use aren't cherry so they feel a bit different(not as stiff) - but it feels good.

The Rosewill felt the best though if you don't mind a red switch it's $80 - browns etc run upwards of $100. I suggest browns for typing (if you speed type) and clears/reds for gaming or if you're a heavy typer.

I like the Velocifier because of the backlighting. And it's really good backlighting with a nice soft aqua green glow and multiple effects. Really makes people ask questions at work LOL.

I've never gotten this question, and I've never really outright asked. What is a "gaming keyboard" for you guys? Is it snazzy lights? A cool logo?

You can get pretty much anything beyond a specific logo on any non-gaming keyboards. You can get media controls on pretty much any keyboard, more or less. You can get non-gaming keyboards full-sized, or TKL with a separate numpad, or a 60% and learn to use Function layers more (which is what I do, and have done, for a while, for both gaming and other functionality on a computer). You can get RGB lights on keyboards that aren't designated as "gaming" keyboards (though, admittedly, these are mostly custom keyboards, as mass-produced, mainstream, ready-made keyboards are usually designated "gaming" keyboards when they have RGB lights).

The only thing I'd recommend you look out for is to make sure it has mechanical switches, because their lifespan is much longer (than typical rubber domes on most keyboards). Mechanical keyboards last years upon years upon years, and the switches can be replaced individually (should they fail) if you're up to open the keyboard's case; on the flipside, if you want a snazzy "gaming(TM)" keyboard, then those very often see early failures in the individual LED lights that make up the RGB lighting, which are far more failure-prone.

tl;dr: Pretty much any good keyboard is also a good gaming keyboard, because good keyboards are defined by their switches and their durability; media controls aren't really used in gaming anyway, and are usually substituted with Function layer keys anyway.

Also, looking around Canadian Amazon, I realized 150 CAD is a bit less than I thought (seeing as I'm used to dealing with pounds and euros), but you could just get something like this, which is at a very reasonable price (though I haven't used this keyboard myself). On the flipside, I would warn you against keyboards like this one, which say they use "Cherry MX Blue Equivalent" switches, because the "equivalent" - especially when they don't name the switch and just say it's "Custom mechanical switches" - usually means they're some really low-quality switches, and you might find them not being nearly as durable, and feeling really weird and mushy right out of the box.

For other alternate options, you could consider this one, or something like this, if you don't care about RGB lights (because it has a few less noticeable (but more useful, in my opinion) features, like double-shot PBT keycaps, which take much, much longer to wear out and develop a "shine" on the keys; and a USB type-C connector, which is really just more convenient and more durable than the old(er) microUSB or whatever other connector a given keyboard has). It has a Space Grey colour option as well.

At the end of the day, all you need to really consider is the size of the keyboard (which you can make a bit easier for yourself by getting a separate numpad, should you really need one), the switches (which will change how the keys feel when you press them down), and programmability (i.e. whether the keys can all be re-binded or not). Everything else is tertiary, and mostly just vanity.

This was my first mechanical keyboard. Blue switches, really solid build quality. Keys felt good, and for the price it really impressed me. The space bar can be a bit finicky since the switch is on the middle and the springbar inside is kinda iffy, but one minor problem for the price it is isn't bad.

I know you said you wanted to like corsair, but I would try the Corsair K70 if you can. It's what I have now (with red switches) and I love it. That said, I don't recall if it comes in blue with RGB.

I recommend investing in this If you don't have a specialized store (like a Micro Center) near you that'll have a display with multiple switches. That way you can test which one you like best and make a decision from that.

  There's also the CM Quickfire XT which is basically the same thing but fullsize, though they're usually not as cheap for some reason.

  Ducky is of course a fairly well-known company that make keyboards that (usually) aren't overly flashy, don't use software (except for the newest RGB one IIRC) at a reasonable cost, you can get a Ducky Shine 5/6 which is fullsize, comes with excellent lighting, a standard bottom row and PBT keycaps (which quite frankly shit all over Corsair's stock keycaps and any other ABS ones for that matter), all for around the same price as a STRAFE RGB. The One is basically an alternative to the STRAFE, seems like it only comes with ABS keycaps (or PBT are more rare), but it's also an excellent option if you're not huge on RGB lighting (they also come with removable cables, which is a nice as hell feature for the sake of cleaning).
  
  
  
  There's also the Ducky One TKL which is well, basically a Shine 5 without the numpad at a lower price. There's also the fact that Ducky boards come with more than just MX blue/red/brown (do Corsair boards even come with MX blues anymore? last I heard they didn't).

Great motherboard for your build ! Best in class for the b450 platform IMO.

Few suggestions:

Cheaper yet more than decent keyboard

Take a safer/better SSD from a reputable brand: At least a DRAMless drive like a Crucial BX500 or a Kingston A400.

Here is a better, safer PSU for long term: the EVGA Supernova G2 550W

The stock Ryzen 2600 cooler is more than fine unless you plan on overclocking your stuff. You could save a little bit there instead of getting a single-fan AIO solution.

For the RAM, I can't really speak as I've never looking into 2x4Gb kits. Somebody else could review that.

mechanical keyboards are definetely nicer to play on(clicky and easy to tell when you press a key), but are more expensive, a gaming mouse will make a difference if the sensor is better than your current one.

For 60$ I would say

Hello fellow lefty. As I am sure you already know the gaming industry always has, and always will, hate us. The best we can typically hope for are ambidextrous tools, though I hear one of the Thrustmasters is reversible.

The stick I use is very basic but suits all of my needs, and is also plug-n-play which is a bonus for me because I just lost usage of my favorite usb gamepad after over 10 years of faithful service due to abandoned driver support.

Unfortunately when it comes to throttles I have yet to find any that are ambi, so I use another usb peripheral for my right hand that is also plug-n-play. Like some one else suggested you could use two sticks, but I find that limiting actually.

I'm looking for an RGB mechanical keyboard in the $45-60 range. I know the quality won't be the best, but there are some great keyboards in this range. Here are the specifics.

 

1. NO mem-chanical or half-mechanical crap. It needs to be truly mechanical even if it isn't cherry mx or gateron.
   
2. It needs to have individual key color programmability, not zones or lines.
   
3. Full-sized, no shortened ones or tenkeyless.
   
4. Some cool animations, most/all keyboards have this anyways.
   
5. Preferably something with more than 7 colors, true RGB would be amazing, but 7 is ok too.
   
6. Willing to pay up to 85-100 if it includes cherry mx switches.
   
7. Prefer something with software that can program it, but on-board controls are fine too.

so, i found this one by accident the other day when i was browsing "naga hex" replacements... it's not one of the big 12 button mice, but i could never use those comfortably because it felt like button gloat, and my thumb would always misclick when i'd move the mouse, so this was more what i would use: Anker High Precision Gaming Mouse

I currently live in Canada, the land of expensive PC components, and I'm looking at getting into the world of mechanical keyboards. I'm hoping to spend around $100, and it seems like options might be limited. I would love to get something like the Leopold FC900R but it seems the only retailer that will ship to Canada is mechanicalkeyboards.com and I'm probably looking at over $200 after shipping and currency conversion. My only real requirement is a detachable USB connection (so it can be stored easily) and a full-size number pad.

Would anyone have any recommendations to get my feet wet? What about the CM Quickfire Rapid. If you don't mind buying second-hand, they go for $40-50 shipped on /r/mechmarket often enough. Cooler Master is definitely a well-recommended brand around here. Good mechanical keyboards (ex. Ducky, Leopold, Filco, topre) don't tend to go on sale all that often, so that's one thing. I'm not super elitist about quality but I feel like anything between $50-100 brand new is just an awkward price range. It's too expensive to be a "good deal" but not quite expensive enough to get you good quality.

For lesser recommended but still-better-than-Chinese-random we have this Rosewill and this Drevo.

I'm not super knowledgeable about cheap boards since I'm pretty picky about board quality but those should be some good starting points.

You can pick up reliable rubber dome boards for less than that. Save the money and put it towards a keyboard you'll love.

Not the dream keyboard, but the one that you love to use until you can justify the dream keyboard.

I'm looking to purchase a first mechanical keyboard. So far I think I'm pretty interested in Tenkeyless, red switches. I think the Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro S looks very appealing to me visually wise. Is this something you would recommend? Any other keyboards around that price range or lower that I should also take a look at?

I was also super interested in these key caps that I saw on a post earlier on this subreddit. I really like the RB color scheme and the front-printed keys. Are these good (I have no clue what the difference is quality wise on the plastic is, if any) and would they be compatible with the keyboard I linked? I'm sorry if any of these questions could be easily answered in the wiki. I looked through it but a lot of the terms are still super new to me.

Depends on your budget. If you're talking straight up value, the Motospeed wins hands down at that cost. If money is no issue, then go for the Rosewill, which has better switches (Cherry > Outemu).

There are some people who prefer Outemu blue switches over Cherry since the click is slightly louder and lower-pitched, but generally Cherry switches are smoother and higher quality. Outemu are Chinese clones of Cherry switches.

Also, if you plan on gaming, I recommend looking at something like a tenkeyless (TKL) or smaller layout, which is more comfortable and ergonomic for your arms, like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-GATERON-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01J708CCG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1496374475&sr=8-3&keywords=qisan+blue). Everybody have their own preference, but cherry mx red is my first mechanical keyboard switch that I use. I used specifically it for 2 years, then when I try brown out, I don't like it. Brown feels like a dirty red to me--red with slight bump, so slight I'm not sure why the bump is there in the first place.

But for you, someone who's used with brown, red might feels different. Definitely let me know when you tried red out, I'm curious of your reaction :D

Honestly I hate it. Not because it's bad, but because right now I'm too used on having a heavier keyboard as I have aluminium plate, aluminium case, etc. The magicforce build is solid but it is still plastic. I'm assuming your logitech g710 is a solid plastic too so I don't think you'll have problem adjusting with magicforce.

The gateron red in magicforce is uniform, stable, and responsive. It's amazing for gaming in my experience when I played dota 2 with it.

Are you going to be gaming on this PC? I hate recommending mechanical keyboards for people that will be gaming with friends on an open mic. It really does get annoying when you hear CLACK CLACK CLACK CLAKCLACKCLACK through the mic.

The Green switches are both a tactile and a clicky (loud) switch. You can both feel the tactile bump and hear the "click" that occurs when the activation point is hit. ... If you are used to lighter switches you may have trouble at first getting used to the feel of Green switches, as they are a stiff switch. Of course, I am not sure if this will hold true for this off brand. It may be quite easy to press, who knows.

There is also a cheaper non-backlit version, and a $50 RGB backlit version.

Blue switches, so it will be clicky (loud) and tactile. Blues are considered similar to Greens, just easier to press.


EagleTec also makes cheap mechanical keyboards worth a look. You might find an LED design from them that will go great with your build.

It's a pretty good keyboard. Standard keycaps, so you can easily swap them out if the design gets tired. They don't use actual Cherry switches, but a few of the knockoffs aren't terrible.

The one you linked is red only backlight. If you want full RGB, you'll have to get the RGB version, which is $10 more.

Also, not sure if you've used a mechanical keyboard, but noise is an important factor. This is the best video I've seen that demonstrates what each switch sounds like before and after the O-Ring modification. It gives you an idea of what each switch will sound like when using the keyboard.

EDIT: Cherry MX Reds aren't shown in that video because they are nearly identical to Cherry MX Blacks, only requiring less force to actuate the switch. Black switches are essentially stiffer red switches.

If you want a good first, without much of a learning curve (meaning the loss of the ten key, or arrows), I'd suggest the Magic Force. It's less than $100 and comes with Gateron Brown Switches which are a favorite among a lot of people here. Yea, it's missing the ten key, but has the arrows.


If you want something with a ten key, the prices begin to skyrocket. You'll be spending about $150-$200 for a pretty standard full size board with Cherry/Gateron switches. There are full size boards with "better" switches, but the price goes up even more.


My personal favorites are the 60% boards, which have no ten key or arrows. Of course you can easily program these keys as a function layer on top of other keys, but to each their own. You'll find countless boards of this type, and a lower cost option is the Poker. The one I linked is the New Poker 2, which is USB C powered.


The last option is to build your own, which CAN be cheaper than buying a pre-built board. The main cost here comes with the key caps themselves.

You could save $130 by acquiring Windows 10 a separate way and then put half of it into the GPU budget and buy this excellent deal (GTX 1660 Ti). The 1660 Ti is around 15 to 20% faster than the 590 and is more capable of achieving 60+fps.

Then put the other half of the $130 into a better keyboard for around $50-$60, you'll be glad you did. I recommend the Redragon K551-RGB at this price point. Redragon makes above average mechanical keyboards compared to the other companies at this price point. The blue switches are quite loud, fair warning.

My setup is currently just my dell 7559 "Gaming" laptop, where I have a book placed upon the laptop keyboard and my external keyboard on top of the book, yeah it sounds stupid lol. I really don't like the laptop keys when I play video games or typing essays.

Hey guys! I'd just like a quick comparison, I'm interested in a mechanical keyboard but not interested enough to throw a lot of money at it. So I've found these two budget ones (on sale!) but I'm not quite sure of the difference.

They both look similar, blue switches and all; but I'm not quite sure of their differences. The Jelly one is plastic it seems while the Hcman is Aluminium but the Hcman I think can adjust the colors while that's not the case for the Jelly. Other than that they seem pretty similar to an untrained eye like mine. Thanks for the help guys!

Magicforce 68. They're $40-70 on Amazon. $40 for nonbacklit, $70 for backlit. Last I checked, reds weren't in stock but blues were and they're pretty nice for the price. I love mine. I use it at home sometimes for gaming.

I got my vortex race 3 over the summer with mx clears, and i'm really enjoying it, but one thing i didn't really notice when buying it is the somewhat weird key sizes for some of the keys.. for example the escape key in the very top left and the delete key in the very top right are both 1.5u instead of the regular 1u. So that's something you might want to think about. I guess it won't affect you if you don't plan on buying aftermarket keycaps, but when i bought keycaps for this keyboard i had to pay like 60 more dollars just for extra keys that would fit the abnormal key sizes on this keyboard. I love my Logitech g610 Orion mechanical keyboard ($80) and Logitech g303 mouse($30). The mouse is comfortable and light with 2 side buttons and has served me well for the last year with no signs of aging at all. No fraying of the braided cable or ware on the mouse anywhere. The g610 Orion keyboard has Cherry Mx Red switches and a nice tactile feel to each key press. I haven’t had it a real long time but I have loved every second I have had with it. I very highly recommend both. And also RGB MOUSE = MORE FRAGS

Here's a few things to look at:

  The anne pro is the keyboard I'm currently using. It's a little bit over your budget but it's amazing. Really well built, has bluetooth, a ton of different RGB modes and customizations, and it's small and will easily fit on any desk.

If you want to treat your girlfriend, you could get a barebones WASD V2 and get a set of keycaps for it. Super clean, really solid keyboard. Or you could try and find a CM Storm XT, which while has a slight gamey look to it, isn't really that bad IMO. There's also this rosewill which seems pretty reasonable.

The iKBC is very well received here. I don't know anything about the software, but it's definitely a solid choice. This one is more basic but also a solid choice.

The volume rocker is a gimmick because it's an extra feature most of us don't really care for. We can set media controls to say, F2-F7. For ones with smaller keyboards, it'll be layered. For bigger ones with dedicated keys, they can be your default function for those keys. A lot of us just prioritize things differently. That's why I had to ask you and others what you care about most.

I got this one a couple weeks ago on sale for $55 and it has been absolutely fantastic so far. That one also uses outemu switches (blues in this case). It also has true RGB backlighting for each switch which i honestly didn't expect! Also came with a keycap removal tool and 5 replacement switches. Love it.

Got one of these off Amazon for like 70 bucks. Blue switches, nice led lighting, good feel to it. It's Chinese, which was a bit worrisome as far as quality goes, but it's actually really well built and seems very durable.

I was looking for a keyboard around $60 or under that's mechanical (Blue switch preferably or secondly red).. and has customizable rgb. If you're a student in high school or college, see if your school or college department has a Microsoft Imagine subscription, which could get you your windows license for free. That'll save a lot.

The K55 isn't mechanical, just a heads up. It's not half bad as a membrane keyboard though If you want mechanical with white backlighting, the Logitech G610 has sold on amazon for $60 a few times and uses Cherry MX Reds. There's also the Gigabyte Force K83, which lacks dedicated media and volume keys and backlighting, but is a steal at $40 (an LED desk lamp can kinda solve the lack of a backlight. I use the Logitech in my home office and the Gigabyte Force at work.

Not a fan of the keyboard you linked for work use; the Roswell K9000 is more subtle, better yet MK Typist is a much higher quality and versatile board.

To go with the mouse is a good mousepad; I like the SteelSeries 9HD. Another worthwhile investment is a good set of headphones; I prefer studio style over "Beats" or whatever, so I have Audio-Technica ATH-M40x (due to this review) and a DAC (due to the same guy reviewing it).

Not trying to discourage you, what you have is very similar and if it suits your taste then more power to you.

I've been using a mechanical keyboard lately and they're pretty great. Read about the different switch types though and see what works best for you. I'm a fan of the brown switches, but I think most people like the blue (they are the most clicky).

I'm looking for a new keyboard, since i'm not liking the both one's I own right now. I have a Razer Cyclosa, and a Thermaltake eSports Challenger Prime, and both ain't cutting for me anymore. I use the KB to mainly play FPS and RTS, since I use a DS4 for any other games (TPS and such). What I'm looking is a compact mechanical wired keyboard, and must have RED lighting. There's no need of RGB, but backlight is a bonus, also the numerical isn't necessary. The only one i have in mind right now is this one. I don't want to expend more than 80 dollars on it (which maybe its not enough, i know) but less is better. Any suggestions?

I love it. It's on my desk at work right next to my boss who has some giant white usb mechanical that I can't identify; we compete for volume in the office. :) I also have the tenkeyless version but I use the tenkey all the time and had to upgrade.

Keyboard Seems like a banger deal for 40 bucks with nice cherry mx blues.

Mouse Should do you well, Logitech is a very reputable brand although it doesn't look too gamery it is a very good "gaming mouse" on the cheap.

Headset Gets a bit pricey but I don't want you to get garbage shit that lasts you two weeks then brakes, Corsair make pretty good headsets and this one comes with a mic so you can flame your teammates all match. If you want, you can buy it refurb for cheap.

Anyways these are all solid options for getting into PC gaming, I've had my Logitech mouse since 2014 and it's been through hell and back and it still works like new. The kb is a bit pricey for cheap wise but cherry switches are well worth the extra penny imo due to their quality.

WHATEVER YOU DO, do not get garbage keyboard that is advertised as being "memchanical" cause they suck big time. Get a cheap reddragon make sure it lists the switch on the product page though albeit be gateron, cherry, etc.

I think the easiest and cheapest solution would be getting one of these, Redragon is decent stuff and it's about the cheapest RGB board I can think of. Their K552 TKL is about $7 cheaper as well.

It already comes with the same switches you have in yours, I believe, or at least very similar, though you could desolder and swap them if you're dedicated enough.

Function vs Aesthetic
I really like how the vortex vibe looks, but I very often use the arrow keys, page up/down, and media keys (music play/pause, next song, etc) so something like the K70 is certainly appealing to me feature wise.

If you want a good inexpensive intro board with metal case, I really like my Teamwolf Zhuque TKL. It comes with decent Outemu switches but they're hot-swappable so you can throw in a huge variety of switches without soldering. (I put Zealios in mine and absolutely love it.)

Any recommendations for decent gaming keyboard with RGB LED backlighting that isn't too expensive (<$60)? I don't need all the bells and whistles, but I would like to be able to change the color of the backlighting, and I would like to have the number pad. I was looking on Amazon since I have Prime, and this is one that seemed decent, but I'm not 100% sure.

Also, I was thinking of adding o-rings; will the color of the o-rings affect the LED quality? Was leaning towards transparent o-rings just in case.

But if they're don't, I can recommend the Corsair Strafe/CM Storm Quickfire Ultimate/ Das or Ducky keyboards. I think these are some of the best ones with the Cherry MX Blue switches. Hope you can get one as i've read online that MX Blue's feel better than the Razer green switches but that's based off the opinion of other people. Also would recommend the HyperX Cloud II and Logitech G502 for your headset/mouse as /u/E-Man1864 suggested.

EDIT: And yes the Cherry MX Blue switches are what you should be looking for that audible feedback when a key is pressed.

Neither. If you're serious about gaming and spend a lot of time playing, you don't want Browns or Blues. Those are for typing. I recommend you look into boards with Cherry MX Reds like the Corsair Vengeance K70 or the K65 if you prefer a smaller form factor.

If neither of those keyboards appeal to you, do some research. Find keyboards with the right switch (Reds as far as I'm concerned) and see which one you like best.

Hey all, I'm looking for a new keyboard to pick up this Black Friday, but I've never bought a mechanical keyboard before. I don't really care much for RGB, and while I would like to have my keyboard be Logitech so that I don't have to install any other drivers, it isn't a very high up priority.

I live with people, so I would like my keyboard to have a slight click but nothing very annoying. It won't have Red LEDs but those cost more money for a good keyboard. You have to spend around 120 USD for a good keyboard with any red LEDs or RGB. This at least has White LEDs.

This is probably the best starter kit for gaming mouse and keyboard for its price point. I still have the first Devastator as my backup keyboard.

Once you've typed/game on a mechanical keyboard, you won't want to go back to a cheap membrane one. Mech keyboards are also so cheap nowadays. There are very good Cherry knock offs on Amazon that go for $20-30. I got this one on sale for $24 and it's been amazing for the price so far.

Rantopad MXX is great too, plus it uses Gateron switches (which many people find superior to cherry).

MasterKeys Pro S is on Amazon, red switches are an option. Looks like it's out of stock right now though.

I've been using a g15 logitech for the longest time. Its starting to die on me so I thought it was a great idea to switch over to a mechanical keyboard. I will be using this keyboard to game. Eh... it doesn't use Cherry switches but rather Kailh. Newer Kailh switches such as their BOX series are nice, but their older stuff like what I think is in here is sloppy. If you don't care about how the switches feel and just want RGB then just get a $60 Amazon mech like this with Outemu switches which are generally regarded higher than Kailh.

EEk. I really can't recommend anything sub $50 on amazon except this but I would much rather go with their Gateron switches which runs $62. For other options, I can recommend this sale. It's not the prettiest, but it's a fantastic board for $20 more that will last you forever. These last two although cost more, would actually have resale value if you wanted to put it on ebay or mechmarket.

Unfortunately, you’re not going to find much on this sub for less than $50.00.

You could look at the Magiforce 68 - it’s an excellent starter keyboard.

Drevo is also a good place to start. The Gramr is less than $50.00. The Excalibur is a bit more expensive, but it is also a nicer board.

I got through all my IB essays with a Magicforce68 with gateron blues, it was pretty good. If loudness is a concern however, you could get one with gateron browns which are more silent at the cost of not feeling as good.

If you're willing to up your budget a bit, you could get the Pok3r which is endgame material for many. It will definitely last a bunch of time and you can buy better cases for it down the line.

Pay attention to which switches you are getting if you work in a shared space. Blues may not be popular with others in the room due to the clicking. I've worked with a typist who made reds loud AF by slamming each key at top speed, and case/caps matter a lot for sound, but the clicks are a love it or hate it thing that I've seen most people keep away from in shared office spaces. If you love it then go for it, just be aware of your surroundings.

I would submit that, as a CS student, a board with programmable firmware and custom layers is a neat project that can help you keep your hands near the home row for less strain over the course of your career, but it can also be a major distraction, so there's no harm in starting off with something simple and plain while you build your skillset.

I'm sure you can't go wrong. These are Blue switches though, if you want Brown you can look but I'm telling ya, if you've never gone mechanical Blues are the way to go. Trust me.

I think a poll showed browns as the most preferred overall I think, but that's mostly just because they're a compromise between both imo. I like dedicated F# keys too, but keep in mind almost all keyboards that don't come with them (including the magicforce68) have a function key so you still can input F# (among other things). Just incase you're thinking you can't use them at all and deciding based on that.

Finally got a decent mouse and keyboard after using a $15 wireless combo forever. Keyboard is a 2014 Razer Blackwidow Ultimate and the mouse is an Anker CG100. As the first mechanical keyboard I've ever used I must say it is simply glorious! The mouse is decent (tons of settings and fairly linear) but the biggest thing is that it's one of the few I could find that fit comfortably in my giant hands.

I didn't pull the trigger since I kinda prefer to have white LEDs and am worried that the red/blue would be too dark.

Then I found this keyboard from Azio. I know it had Kaill switches but it has white LEDS and an easy volume rocker which is one of the most important things for me. I've read so much lately and have heard either that the Kaill switches are extremely good switches and that you wouldn't know the difference between the two, all the way to how they are noticeably mushier or "crunchy". Anyone have any experience with this one?

The G4560 came out earlier this year and is the first non quad core chip to be able to handle modern games, I was playing The Witcher 3 on it yesterday (which is a very CPU demanding game) and it ran it very well. The 750 is just too old to be able to run much that has come out for the last several years at this point.

The 1050 TI is newer, has better compatibility with modern games, takes up less energy (saving you money back on your GPU), will have better warranty etc and just general lifespan from being bought as new and really is just flat out the better option. The same build I was playing The Witcher on (and tested a few other titles like Shadow of Mordor and Arkham Knight which are also very demanding for graphics) and I was able to get high settings at about 47-52fps (medium settings for the CPU stuff, high for the GPU stuff). You can also move up to a 470/570 GPU for about $240 or a 480/580 for about $280 more for even more performance if you wish. I would not recommend going for an RX 460/560 or the GTX 1050 (non TI) as both are likely to struggle on some games already, and even moreso in the very near future. It would be saving $20 today only to have to buy a whole new GPU porbably in a years time.

The PSU is a good, reliable unit from a known brand and is easily the best available under $40 (it's also on $20 discount so buy it asap as they only last very for a day or two usually... if not, the EVGA 100 400W model is the only other PSU under $40 worth considering - a bad PSU can destroy everything inside your case so never, ever got for a $20 no name model). Your system is also only 224W or half of the PSU's capability, meaning it will run really well and silently, and will give plenty of space for future upgrades without needing to get a new PSU.

The case was just the lowest cost one available - anything labelled 'ATX' or 'MATX' will do fine if you want something else. Just keeping the cost down.

Other notes: Any system at this cost will not come with on board wifi. I really like my Logitech G610 with Cherry MX red switches, they are linear so they do not produce an audible click, so they are quiet. The G610 does have backlighting but it is white and I just keep it turned off anyway, it's got a nice basic look nothing flashy. Doesn't have many extra buttons just some play, pause, lighting control, and a swanky volume slider. Feels well built and it's Logitech so you know it is.

I have had the keyboard for about a year though. Just so happened that it was the top one in this article. I did have a cherry mx blue version before, but others couldn't stand the clicking. Browns do have a louder sound than rubber dome keyboards though, so keep that in mind.

I have a Chinese VicTsing mechanical keyboard for ~$45 with Outemu blue switches. It's been doing its job for more than a year now and have nothing bad to say about it. The build quality is really good with a heavy, metal backplate. The actuation point of the switch is at the exact same position as the tactile feedback, although you can keep pressing the key if you hold it below the bump (read it's the same with Cherries). Definitely worth the money in my opinion if you aren't willing to spend big bucks on a keyboard.

I wanted to go with Redragon K552/K551 (numpad version) but it was hard to get in Europe. I would recommend it if you are from the US. Redragon seems to be a popular choice in cheap peripheral alternatives. Their keyboard also uses the Outemu blue switches.

I picked up a Rosewill RK-9000V2 with brown switches, and I've really enjoyed it so far. I haven't done much gaming on it, but a fair bit of typing so far. I would imagine it'd be great for gaming as well.

As far as mech keyboards go, it's about as non-flashy as you can possibly get. No superfluous lights, no flashy logos or wrist-wrests, and the logo has been specifically de-emphasized for the V2 models.

And you can get one cheap. I think I paid $70 USD on Amazon.

Well, if you really want an inexpensive full-size without a lot of nonsense features for a good price, I recommend the Rosewill RK-9000V2.

Having said that, most folks around here (myself included) would generally advice against a full-size keyboard. If you're 100% sold on it, like, don't let us tell you what to do, haha. But just from the voice of experience, full-size keyboards are ergonomically poor. Even just dropping down to a TKL size (meaning the numpad is cut off) gets your hands closer to center where they should be, and if you're a gamer, gives you a lot more room for your mouse. With a full-size, either your typing hands are centered and your mouse hand is far off to the right (causing strain), or your mouse hand is centered, and you're typing off to the left (also causing strain).

With a TKL size, you're sacrificing nothing because all the same numbers and keys are replicated elsewhere. Unless you're a 10-key whiz (I was), there's nothing to relearn. In my case, I went down to a 60% and taught myself to touch type numbers (which I never learned because I always used my numpad). Took a few days to get back up to full speed, but was worth it.

Depends on the features you want really. Do you need extra programmable keys or just a normal full size just fine? Really when you are looking at a board its what features can you live with out and how much are you willing to spend? I have a blue switch board with backlighting with out the numpad bc of desk space at home. At work I have a full sized board with out backlights. There are even smaller boards out there that remove the F keys and the arrow keys and use the function key to make up for it.

The selection endless now days, almost every company that makes PC gaming components makes a mouse and mechanical keyboard or 10. Stick with anything with MX or Gateron switches and you should be fine. Corsair, Thermaltake, Cooler Master, Logitech, Ducky, Das keyboard are all fine(there are so many brands its hard to narrow all of them down off the top of my head.) Check out the mechanical keyboard subreddit, granted a lot of what those guys go with arent gaming boards but you can get an idea of what is considered quality brand wise.

You could always get something like this or a similar symmetrical gaming keypad to use for gaming. Then you could have WASD and all the hotkeys you need where your right hand comfortably sits, and use the mouse on your left.

You can get a brown keyboard for $80, barely. Rosewill 9000V2 is available in brown right at $80 on Amazon. No backlight, no macro.

You can get backlight if you go with Kailh Browns. Tesoro and such make Kailh Brown gaming boards for about $70 on Amazon. No macro.

You can get macro, and backlight, but no mechanical, by getting "gaming keyboards". Corsair and Logitech have macro capable membrane keyboards for about $30-40.

If you MUST have macro, your best bet is Logitech G710+, $100 on Amazon. Everything you asked for... macro, backlight, cherry brown switch.

I use this. It feels great and looks good. I like the more compact size too, meaning no extra fluff around the edges.

Rantopad MXX is what I recommend for a lot of people. This one uses Gateron blues which a lot of people here like, some people moreso than Cherry brand. Or if you want hotswappable switches to add Cherry switches down the road, then the Zhuque is a good choice

The Corsair keyboards come with different mechanical switches if you like one type over another. I personally like the click feeling without so much of the noise, but my wife likes the noise so we got slightly different versions.

The 2nd keyboard is much more expensive since it is bigger. If your son doesn't need the numberpad or has limited space, the first keyboard might be a good pick.

It is also generally better since the smaller keyboard puts your arms closer together which is a more ergonomic position.

I was looking on Amazon and found these two Magicforce keyboards. I tried combining your suggestions with the other user's suggestion for Gateron switches:

  Would you recommend these? They seem much cheaper than my previous one. Should I be concerned?

UPDATE: Most of the keyboard is working, except for the M key, which I tried to pry off in my last uninformed attempt to fix it. All of the latex is gone, I tested the keyboard on my PC, it works, but a few months ago I tried to pry off the M key, not knowing it was soldered on, and now is unresponsive. What do I do now? Everything is fine except for that one key, Should I sell it and save for another keyboard? This is the keyboard btw.

I use the Rosewill RK-9000V2. It is a superb keyboard for under 100$, and it's been doing me good for a while now.

There's plenty of good mechs for less than the price of the k55. The E-Element z88 is full size with all the RGB you could want, and a few switch types (also comes in a more compact layout if you want that). If you want cherry switches for whatever reason there's this Gigabyte Board with kinda crummy keycaps but 2 switch options and I've personally been using it for a few months and I like it fine. Point being that there are plenty of mechanical keyboards for less than the $50 dollar price point and those are just the ones I've used (or used their equivalent) so I'm using those for examples.

Depends on what youre looking at. you can go from $30 for a cheap one, to 150 for a Ducky or DAS keyboard.

I personally have the Logitech G710+ and love it. You could go to the 610 series and lose the optional function keys (and save about $60) for a solid mid-price point.

Make sure it is branded Cherry MX switches, not proprietary "mechanical switches" like some Razer keyboards have. Accept no substitutes.

Unfortunately as far as I know RGB TKL keyboards with cherry MX clear switches pretty much don't exist (unless you build a custom keyboard).

This KBParadise V80 has clears but it's dual color blue/red LEDs and not RGB.

The WASD Code has clears but it's not RGB and it's fullsize.

There's also this newer keyboard from mechanicalkeyboards.com called the Fission but it's fullsize and the RGB is on the sides.

Clears are a more rare switch than the rest for sure, they can be hard to find on stock keyboards.

Masterkeys Pro L? Unless you really want all those Macro buttons, it's a full size w/ standard bottom row, fully individually lit per-key RGB (both configurable directly from the board and from the software that comes with it), and it's only $140 on Amazon. It also uses a shiny metal plate for insane light reflective so it's nice and bright. You can get it with MX Blues as you want too. Give it a look.

Right I'm using a Nixeus Revel and a Rosewill RK-9000v2 with brown switches and the o-ring kit.

I wanted a super low friction mouse with an excellent sensor for not a lot of money without a lot of gimmicky crap. It fits the bill. I got mine for $30ish on a warehouse deal, not sure if I would've paid $45 for one. My only complaint is that it feels a little lightweight but if you order it from Nixel's site they'll install a weight for you. The default setting is for the LED to RGB cycle, but you can turn it right off if you install Nixel's drivers.

I've been using the Rosewill KB for about 18 months at home and at work, no complaints. It has a solid, heavy feel and a quality cable. I think the o-ring kit is a must, otherwise the keys bottom out hard and make a hollow klonk sound.

Casewise, I would get a Define R5 without hesitation. I've been using a Define R4 for a while now, and it's such a pleasure to work on. Everything is well built and well thought out.

Not really. This keyboard looks just like your average chinese TKL mechanical keyboard minus the pretty lighting and judging by the kailh blue switches, it most likely is. You can find them in the $20 to $30 range any day on amazon.

It's not the best looking and it doesn't have Cherry switches, but would something like this do the job? It's way below your max budget and seems to fit the bill.

I'm not sure what switch type it is, but this is what I use. I like it, no complaints. It's pretty loud, but you get that with pretty much all mechanical keyboards.

Really need to know what kind of switches you want/like.

EG: Linear, Tactile, Clicky etc.

Also, full keys, or 10 keyless(Normal keyboard - numpad)?

If you want a standard full keyboard layout, and linear switches, like Cherry MX reds, I'd suggest The G610, you can get it in either CherryMX Reds('silent' linear) or Browns('Silent' Tactile), and it has white backlighting, along with full media controls and a nice tactile knob-y thing for adjusting volume, if that's your jam, you can get the Cherry MX red variant for 60$ on Amazon right now

CM Storm has a backlit mech with volume controls as FN keys under $100.

Steelseries 6gv2 no backlight, but has volume control with FN keys and is mechanical. Beware, the key caps are known to fit loosely and come off easily.

There are some Razer Black Widow mechs in that price area.

But it all comes down to personal preference I guess. I definitely wouldn't dismiss Gateron because they are knock offs

It's really just bad value. For way cheaper than an Ornata you can get a legitimate fully mechanical keyboard with better build quality.

Clears won't make a lick of difference for a macaw and a cockatoo... They'll just rip the stem clean off. I can't think of a single keyboard that they wouldn't be able to rip to shreds in a moment.

In this case, it might be better to go for something like the Team Wolf Swappable Switch board. Would save the annoyance or desoldering broken switches...
