You will definitely get less noise with an AIB design over a blower. Blowers can be pretty bad, but based on the reviews the one on rx480 isn't bad. Also GPUs have variable fans, they only spin up when they need to. So if you're not playing a demanding game chances are it will be inaudible completely.
So when you are sleeping you won't hear it because it will run at really low RPMs. The concern might be if you have a significant other who's trying to sleep while you game. In that case it may be an issue. But then again that depends.
I prefer AIB designs.. but you might have to wait a few weeks on those.
As far as 4gb / 8gb issue is concerned, I think 4gb is fine for multiple reasons:
There are specific cases where 8gb of VRAM is needed like if you're moding Skyrim with 3rd party texture packs those might need more VRAM.. but if you want to play it safe and not have to worry about it, get an 8gb version, I don't think the option is overpriced. It's up to you, I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Please shit all over it and tell me something better. My motherboard is also RGB controllable or whatever for the front radiator unless putting the radiator in the front is a huge no no even if you rig it so it exhausts out the up and out the front. Air coolers I saw ones that looked better and even had better specs but were only $20 also it seems like noctua is still pretty strong/on top but I don't know who's on top of the cpu cooling game. So that leaves me with the final obvious issue of many, odds are a cpu cooler that big won't fit next to my 4 dimms so is it fine to have a 240mm radiator exhausting out the front of the case. Idk why I said radiator I mean the entire computer because it's just got about an inch glass space between the mesh and two fans.
Sorry I didn't see your post sooner. I ended up needing my AIO cooler for something else and didn't use it on the Mini GTX 1060 yet. As an FYI, I did have the Kraken G10 and AIO on my G1 GTX 970 and it worked fine. The G1 970 has the VRM's on the other side just like the 1060 does, so it would be almost the same thing.

It makes it so you can add the fan basically anywhere there's an extra hole. But to be honest on the Zotac mini GTX 1060 there is a heatsink sitting on the VRM's so they should stay pretty cool just with your case fans. My G1 GTX 970 didn't have a heatsink at all and no fans blowing directly on the VRMs and they never overheated.
Everything looks good imo, although you'll definitely want to pick up another Noctua A9 PWM fan for the cpu cooler as it only comes with 1 fan. I debated going watercooling for a while too, and unless you plan to do some serious overclocking, I personally don't see the need for it. I have an Accelero III on my 2080 with a custom fan profile, and I can barely hear the fans when running demanding games. I hover between 60-64 degrees Celsius with an overclock and my fans don't spin up past 1500 rpm.

You'd basically get rid of the fan shroud on the stock Accelero and have the bottom fans set to exhaust. I have another A12 fan on the side bracket as intake as well, but that's up to you. I'm considering putting a 3.5mm hdd on there instead.
Not too familiar with Ryzen so I don't want to offer advice there. I can however tell you about the FE 1080. Just got mine a few days ago. It is quiet with default fan curve but runs at 82c. I set a curve that boosts up to 50% fan speed at 60c and from then it is a 1:1 ratio. so 70% at 70c and 80% at 80c. The card will thermal throttle at 82c and you can see the core clock drop. It is a tad noisier this way but I game with head phones.
If you are interested in overclocking it, let me know and I can expand more on that if so.

I have the same PC, that is definitely the stock card and like 312c says it's an HP-made GTX 1060 3GB. The stock cooler is unfortunately pretty poor and causes a lot of thermal throttling, but I installed an Accelero Mono cooler on mine (https://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Accelero-Mono-Graphics-Cooler/dp/B006DAD8HS) and it overclocks VERY well with Afterburner. With the Mono cooler it never drops below 2GHz and runs all of my VR titles remarkably well. It did take a tiny bit of modding to the plastic fan shroud of the Mono to make it fit, but it wasn't too terribly difficult.
It's not free but it also avoids a today legal battle that keeps you from gaming. Throw it on to the legal fees? Anyhow don't be Dr Frankenstein. MANY makers sell aftermarket coolers. The different sellers of 1080s are all just glorified gpu fan makers.
Nzxt does a pretty sick hybrid system. Evga has a solutuon.
I found a soltution from artic that should get you back to gaming in 3-4 days or so if it was just a fan dieing. And it's not too expensive. Link said like $65 ish. Amazon link. Arctic is a super solid brand. Up there with Evga for cs and reliability.
You could also look for someone else's dead card that's like yours. Make sure their 1080 is on the same pcb.

There is zero reason to ever buy Corsair AF fans as their own SP fans outperform them in every scenario, as do many models from numerous other brands.

Would definitely give contacting ZOTAC a shot. Sounds like a faulty fan and they should be able to fix it, it's a real easy fix. At the very least they'd hopefully be able to provide you with spare parts.
If worst case scenario they aren't able to fix it. You could look to Aliexpress or eBay for replacement GPU fans. They're inexpensive, although quality may not be as good as the OEM one. So I have a reference 7850, which I only overclock to 1050/5500 at 1.075v because it at any higher voltages the temps get a bit too high for my liking, (around 84 degrees celcius at load, sometimes reaching over 90 degrees at 1.2v).
So in order to combat this, I've been thinking about buying an Accelero Twin Turbo. Does anyone have any experience installing this on a reference 7850? Would you recommend for or against it? Would I be better off just buying a 200mm side intake fan (though i doubt it would make much difference).
I understand that installing ram heatsinks are unnecessary and it also causes the card to take up 3 pci slots, is that correct! Any info/advice would be great!
If you are ok with the performance you could just change the cooler. This is just the first one I saw. Rx580 will need to use lower settings to hit 144fps for many games (as I'm sure you know).

The 3870 should be good enough for TF2, CS:GO, and LoL and Steam's in-home streaming if I ever try that out. But man, that HSF looks huge. The varying reviews on it make me a little wary though, and the loudness of the stock HSF on the AMD 9850 kinda makes a quiet cooler pointless. Pretty much, the mounting holes haven't changed much. You could go with an Arctic Twin Turbo for $40, and it should cool just as well as the best preinstalled 3rd-party coolers out there. It will, however, turn it into a 3-slot card.

Clean the video card: remove the gpu cooler and clear all the dust, clean the thermal compound with alcohol and apply new paste. If it still doesn't work, you can buy a 3rd party gpu cooler.

I have a 240mm on my 1080ti. That already is overkill as it hits 45 c maxiumum. . A 280mm for your 1060 would be a crazy amount of overkill. You'll be spending this 90+ on this, another 30 on the bracket and whatever else cost is needed.
I feel like if you're already spending that much and doing work on a 1060, you might as well sell your card and buy another card that's either a triple fan or some other card that's an upgrade. Any oc'ing you can do on a 1060 will likely not make up for the cost of the equipment you did to put it on a gpu.

The other reply is probably your best bet. repaste it and see how it goes. If that doesn't help, I would just sell it and buy an upgrade or sidegrade.
Sounds like the bearings in the fan shit the bed. Not a big deal, these things are really easy to replace.
Just look up your model of GPU and find a fan for it. I replaced the fan on my Zotac 1060 today with this. Ten bucks and a few minutes with a screwdriver. You just take the shroud (plastic part) off the heatsink, remove the fan, and stick the new one in.
95° is nothing to worry about on a 290x, though throttling indeed starts at that point. PUBG is a piece of shit, so I would not be concerned about AMD performance on that nvidia game either.
But the sound of the fan makes me think your fans are in for a replacement, which is annoying. Card is most likely out of warranty as well. Undervolting, accepting the throttling for a while and waiting for vega sounds still like the best option. Your 290x should not throttle hard enough to make it a real problem.
You could try to ask gigabyte if they can send you an replacment cooler kit for your card or try a cheaper air cooler set for your 290x.
Arctic Accelero IV for example is just $50 and is actually slightly better than most 3rd party 290 coolers. Was the way to go when the 290x still had only reference design cards on the market and is cheap enough. Still, redoing the VRam pads might do the trick too, hard to tell.

Instalation is quite simple but time consuming. Temps before ~60 idle, slightly over 80 under full load, and fans over 80%. I remember stock fans was pretty quiet until 60% where noise level started to raise quite dramatically. After that was just vacuum.
Anyway temps now: idle ~32 (no fans spinning), fans rarely reach 65% (where is still very very quiet), temps slightly over 70C under full load (tomb raider maxed out) but I use custom curve in afterburner so I'm not sure what would be in auto.
My case: coolermaster haf 912+, intake: 2 front, 2 top, outtake 1 rear, all intakes covered with demciflex filters.
Just need to mention - after cooler installation card get quite big ;)

Aftermarket cooler with 3 fans that is pretty beefy. Not sure if it's money you'd want to spend, although it'd be well worth the money if you think it is worth it.
Stock bios had mine at 1000 mv. I upped mine to 1050. The timings helped a lot. Also my cooling is pretty top notch. I'm using these heat sinks, this thermal paste and this cooler. I removed the thermal pads that come on the heat sinks and I'm using the thermal grizzly for the ram heat sinks and the GPU its self. Not to mention that cooler comes with a huge back plate for additional dissipation.
This. See the three screws that mount the fan to the heat sink, OP? Take the fan off, measure the diameter of the fan, and find a replacement on eBay that matches the diameter and the plug type (there are two major types of plug for GPU fans that I've found, and conveniently if you pull the plastic socket off the board but leave the pins the plugs are sorta interchangeable.)
Bet you can fix it for under $10.
EDIT: Even with no fan attached, you can plug it into a computer and see if you can get into BIOS (please leave the heat sink on though.) it won't overheat instantly. If it puts an image on the screen without a ton of artifacting your GPU is probably fine.
EDIT 2: On closer inspection, that's a 4-pin PWM fan, not a two-pin dumb fan that I'm used to replacing on much older GPUs. Still, shouldn't be hard to find one. Heck, here's an example that will probably fit.

You can also liquid cool your GPU, but I don't know if there's any all-in-one liquid coolers for gpus (other than the cards that already come with them like the Fury X). Most people that liquid cool their GPUs are overclocking heavily and have put together their loop from scratch.

Both cards may throttle cause both coolers are meh. You could buy gtx 2080 or make an abomination cooler by removing shroud from blower card and slaping 2 good 120mm fans using zipties and connecting them to GPU using adaptor and fan splitter. Quick question about graphic cards and aftermarket air coolers.
So I bought my PC used, and it came with a GTX 570 HD. Now one of the fans crapped out on the cooler for it, so I'm thinking about replacing the whole fan set up for it. According to the product description, it is compatible with a Nvidia GTX 570. It does not state if it is compatible with a 570 HD. From a preliminary google search, apparently the difference between the two is that the 570 HD comes with an extra DisplayPort, but I do not know if the layout of the chip is changed.

A 1060 isn't a lot faster than the 970 so I wouldn't bother with one of those.
I think he should do the third option for now. Saving most of his money for a GPU upgrade whenever a new gen comes out. An aftermarket cooler like an ARCTIC Accelero Twin Turbo II or an NZXT G12 bracket and corsair H55. He should even be able to reuse them on future GPU generations.
He may also want to grab an I7 too, but I think trying to boost his performance without spending a lot of money should be his goal right now.

As far as I am aware, there are no passively cooled modern graphics cards. You would need to install an aftermarket heatsink (like this, don't actually use that one as it doesn't work with any recent hardware) on your own.
A much easier solution would be to grab a card with a good cooling set up and get a case with noise dampening foam.

I have a EVGA GTX 980 Reference/Blower GPU that I bought in September 2014. Around February of 2018 it started overheating despite having been taken apart, thoroughly cleaned, and freshly pasted (more than once over the life of the card). I even tried setting the fan speed to max during any type of load scenario but it would still overheat and crash the computer.
I ended up buying this aftermarket open-style cooler and installing it on the card. Fast forward to today and it's been running perfectly fine with no fan adjustments.
Am I supposed to learn from this that I should avoid blower style gpus unless they are required for a build?
So with coolers like this how do I tell if it's compatible with my GPU? Are there different sized 1070 boards or is just the cooler that is different? Could I also get a shroud from another 1070 and put it on my GPU?

Edit: How this one works is it uses the large backplate heatsink to passively cool the VRMs and VRAM modules, whilst the fans blowing air onto them directly from the topside (underside when installed in PC), also aid the cooling. So the parts you are looking for (2+3 from your post, which are there to cool your VRMs and VRAM) become obsolete.
If you have clearance issues with the Accelero IVs backplate - I do in my PC due to the position of my PCI-E slot and my Noctua CPU heatsink, you can buy an Accelero III which comes with mini heatsinks you can put onto the VRMs and VRAMs instead of the backplate, again replacing parts 2+3.
This is the one I got. It's a bit quieter than stock like I mentioned and it also comes with RAM heatsinks so you can overclock the memory as well.
The cheap solution would be just pull off the fans and jury rig a replacement from 2 regular case fans.

The cheapest would be Arctic Accelero which can keep the 1080 TI within 65c at max OC. Then there's EVGA Hybrid which probably would perform slightly better than Arctic with regards to temps. If you aren't planning to add a custom water loop in the future, I'd recommend returning the FE and getting a aftermarket card like FTW3 or Strix. If returning isn't possible, you can go with the Arctic or Evga cooler depending on your budget. They both would be a pain to install though.

It's loud and it will hit thermal limit (83º) quite often under heavy load. I had an Aero 1070 OC, used it for a year and with some undervolting and a more aggressive fan curve i managed to keep it mostly under 70º while gaming. The only problem was that having the case literally next to my head, the noise was kinda annoying so i ended up selling it and getting a Strix.
If you wanted to get an aftermarket cooler, the Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV and Raijintek Morpheus II are the best air cooling options. If you wanted to go water, the Aero uses the FE's PCB so any FE compatible AIO like the EVGA ones will work.

This is the adapter for PWM fan control from your GPU header. Splitter to go from that to pump+fan.
I'm not sure about the limits on your card. It can't hurt to check. I know the card's bios limited mine to 55%. MSI Afterburner let's me bump it up around 62% so it doesn't thermal throttle. Reapplying thermal paste might get you a couple degrees cooler. Or it might give you nothing. Probably not too big a loss if you're not comfortable opening the card up. If you do open it up, blow out any dust. If you want to sink some money into it, you can also get an aftermarket cooler like this one. That should lower your temperatures easily by 10+ degrees.

with two Corsair SP120's to feed it air. I have two non PWM noctuas pointed at my GPU right now but they aren't perfect and the MSI Armor cooler (which is terrible) gets in the way of the quiet fans. I'm hoping to drop overall system temps and end up with a mostly passive system.

Installation is pretty straightforward and simple too. I personally tied that shit with zipties until it stopped rattling and worked like a charm.
What you are looking for is the amount of heatpipes. 4 and 5 is good. 3 and below is on the low side and not recommended and will cause overheating.

For the fan connectors, you can actually purchase an adapter like this for each one of the fans if you don't want to mess with cutting the cables. Just unplug the stock fan, plug in the adapter in its place, and then plug in any non-stock fan into the adapter (obviously this will create an excess of cabling though).
Alternatively, you can order one of the above adapters and then this adapter from Arctic (to replace the main stock cable with), but if you're outside of Europe you have to get a little crazy with ordering (I used Dutch VPN -> paid with PayPal -> shipped via German mailbox service to USA). After that, you can just split off the 4-pin/PWM adapter with a y-cable per normal.
I started working on a similar mod yesterday (using the second option) with a 2070 XC Ultra, but hadn't gotten to the mounting part yet since I run an inverted GPU so I can afford to be lazy with progress on it for now.
At that price you could get an aftermarket cooler for $40-60 and come out ahead or break even, of the prices these cards will be in a couple weeks when manufacturers come out with theirs.
In my experience, these coolers work really well. Cool and quiet when switching from a blower, but they don't look very nice.

Personally wouldn't risk sanding it down if you haven't had much experience with doing that type of thing, but if you do make sure you don't over sand one side or another, the more level it is, the better it will dissipate heat. Worst case, you'll have to buy an aftermarket cooler, or try and get in touch with customer service.

I outline another way to cool the vrms by cutting the stock vrm cooling plate in the video so you could cut down on cost that way. I just wanted to see if they made a big difference.
do you have ebay? I believe the cooler on the 390x fits on the new RX 5700. You might be able to sell the stock cooler for a bit unless it's a bad blower style, because some are desperate to replace theirs on the 5700 XT
Overall it's not worth liquid cooling, though. It almost never is. It's a hobby. If you want cooler temps look at the Artic Accelero maybe. Just like the NZXT mod, it does not help much with VRM and memory temps, but maybe those are not a problem on this card? I think your card also has to be a reference design, but that might be for the custom loop too..
No, I am sure it is correct. Basically, when bitcoin mining was more profitable I ran it at load 24/7 and it took a toll on the cooler, both through dust and possibly fucked up thermal paste. The cooler wasn't good to begin with, and there is no way that I can see to take it apart and clean it out. I think I am going to go with this, because when my 6970 dies I can just put it on a new card.

This generation the cost to performance difference between the Titan RTX and the 2080ti is just so small. I usually get every generation Titan card, however this generation is just really disappointing. I wouldn't be surprised if something like a 2080ti kingpin edition or one of the other higher binned cards would beat the Titan RTX in some games.
Also the stock Titan coolers are garbage, always have been. To really get the most out of them you will want either an aftermarket air cooler, or a watercooled setup. Remove the card and use some dust off to get all the dust and crap out of the fans. Also spray the rest of your case down too. If you don't see a more normal temperature then get an after market heat sink. I got this and my avg temp is 35 C (down from 70+).

I know I'm late, but I had a GTX 660 Ti SC 2GB (EVGA) with the stock blower wind tunnel on it. It was incredibly loud and hot even at idle. I got the Accelero TT from Arctic (~$40), and now I get ~20F lower load temps and ~5F lower idle temps. I just leave the fans all the way up all the time because I can't even hear them!

Do NOT get an aftermarket GPU cooler if you are uncomfortable around your GPU's shroud and around extremely ESD sensitive parts. Very nerve-wracking install, and it looks pretty bad in my case. But the temps and noise reduction are 100% worth it.
