(Part 2) Reddit mentions: The best hair extensions, wigs & accessories

Aww thank you, are so sweet! I have a very supportive department, and they all have known my struggles with depression caused by this and having to take medical leave before.



A university is a great place to come out, you are in view with hundreds of people, and universities have very strict policies on harassment. The university now has a WPATH counselor who is working with me, so taking these steps without any pressure to looks good on the case she is writing on me. I would have never got this far except it seems that the universe is conspiring to help me. However, its not like a night out in a town far away. Today set it in stone for everyone who knows me. If they didn't see it before they now know that I am trans. I can't take it back, so its one more step completed. Funny how a red sweater, eye liner, and a non conforming body can really mess with peoples minds.



I have a wig, I tried it on today with the outfit, but my cheeks are just not quite right and I feel like I'm from a seventy's band. The dutch gene runs in my family strong so the women in my family have tall foreheads and long cheeks, oh and baggy eyes. I am seriously considering a lace front wig. I like this one

with the bang pinned back like a person posted a few pics down it looks awesome and I like the way it lays more flat on top. The one I have looks like a helmet, its like a auburn brown with super long curls and it only looks good with certain outfits that are dressy.



I need several other options, If I had hair on top I could do a head band. I'll be getting creative soon, that hat is a one trick pony and people are starting to pick at it. Its hard to hide my receded hair line now that my hair is starting to grow out a little, so I am open to many ideas if you have more.



As much as I really want to, a wig might be too soon also because I have kids and commute from a small town I take and pick them up from daycare etc. Everyone knows everyone, my wife is from here, and people are not very understanding. Its been a week now of makeup that is obvious before I leave the house. I am waiting for the backlash, its like seeing a storm cloud in the distance. So thank you for the support!

Turns out that Whole Foods doesn't carry dried papaya either. Rawr! WL


5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it! The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I had heard about this when the movie came out in English. I liked the movie and then moved on with my life. Come this spring, I found myself facing a LOT LOT LOT of driving by myself, so I started borrowing audiobooks from the library. I borrowed all three of these books and REALLY enjoyed them. It wasn't at all what I expected. They're murder mysteries with a lot of themes about violence against women. When I learned about the author, it became that much more interesting. The author wrote these books with the intention of making 10, but died after the third one. They found them after he died. The themes about sexual violence stem from a gang rape he witnessed as a teenager. He never forgave himself for not being able to help her, so he channeled all those emotions into his writing later in life. Anyway.....interesting stuff. Good books. I recommend them :)


6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related! Pfft.


7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...) If I was a cat, this would be my JAM!


8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it. Dresses are admittedly useful for avoiding public indecency charges, but not really useful beyond that. BUT LOOK AT THE RAINBOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WL


9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why? Not on my wishlist (it's on American Netflix though!), but everyone should be aware of the impact of plastic on the environment and our bodies. Education is everything. Plus, there's a newborn baby at the end.


10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain. 1. Stab zombie in the skull. 2. ??? 3. Profit. The reviews rave that it's super sharp and doesn't stick so it probably wouldn't get stuck in their skull like other knives. WL


11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals. I don't know if I'd use the word profound, but it would sure help me out. A big passion of mine is learning to ID birds. I'm pretty good at most birds, but finding information on juveniles is VERY difficult sometimes. I've used this book before to help identify birds in hand, but I think the information regarding juvenile plumage would help me identify young birds from afar. It's even part of my job to identify birds! WL


12.) One of those pesky Add-On items. This is an Add-On item, but it's also a hair addon =P Not on my WL, but I'm losing my hair like crazy so I might have to look into these >.>


13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why? This isn't the most expensive item on my list (that was #8), but it's the one that would help me the most! When I do field work, I tend to have a lot of gear on me at once, and the extra strain of binoculars around my neck tends to give me some really freaking sore muscles. A harness would be MUCH easier on my shoulders/neck/back. I start field work again in October, so I plan on buying it for myself by then anyway =] WL


14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave. This is larger than the average bread box.

My water bottle has still had ice in it after three days AND being refilled twice. No joke.

good luck in your campaign! i'm sure your DM will understand no matter what you do, but please don't feel pressured to damage your natural hair. that's years of work, and it's simply not fair to you for a one-night event. if need any help, i'd be glad to point you in the right direction! o7

e: also i've got to agree with the people in the comments, i've been around similar guys that appear sweet but end up having not-so-great intentions. i certainly don't want to project this onto your DM - i know how passionate they can be (i ended up dating ours because of that haha) but his insistence upon changing your hair color does trip a few bells imo, especially considering he initially controlled the change. i would be curious as to who suggested the dressing up idea, personally.

either way, asking? fine and dandy! but it's at the point where you are now uncomfortable with saying "no" and leaving it at that, which isn't fair to you. he seems very kind and dedicated; please look out for yourself as well, though.

You could always play Would You Rather? Or maybe tell jokes or riddles for part of the way there. Put up a funny sign in a window that doesn't obstruct your view and see how many people you can get to honk. My friends and I did that on the way to our first concert and it was hilarious.

Make sure to make time to see some sights that you wouldn't wanna miss on the way.

Make sure to pack lots of snacks and drinks for hydration and any other roadside emergency supplies, just in case.

Podcasts are great when you need something to listen to, but have been listening to music for hours straight. Maybe research some that might interest you before you head out so you have a planned list.

Best idea of all, teach your dogs to drive and then you can just watch movies the whole way there or read. Or sleep. Doesn't matter cuz the dog is driving. Might wanna teach him not to chase other cars lol

as well as some decent black lipstick. (I recommend LAsplash's Lip Couture in Venom.) The look you're going for is obviously a bit more 'edgy', so I'd definitely suggest playing up your eyes as a big detail.

You already read pretty femme to me like this- though I'd recommend a more level camera angle next time, as this angle elongates the face.

Overall, you look pretty good, and obviously you're not going to be 100% perfect the first time, so just keep working towards it and you'll be fine.

This is a human hair (remy) wig from amazon. Link. I actually ordered the longer style and I think they sent me the shorter one. It's not lace front - I thought it would be and it would have been my first one of that, too, so I'm a little disappointed. But after a bad haircut, I haven't been able to leave the house, so I got this so I could feel more confident when school starts. I went to a family event yesterday right after it came in the mail, and some people didn't know it was a wig - it took my mom a minute to realize it wasn't my hair. The hair is very soft and was easy to fluff out. The wig came with a bit of bangs but I cut them to be full straight bangs. Since the volume at the root is a little incongruent with my ethnicity (ash kenazi jewish) I found that pinning a bit down in the back or wearing a headband made this wig look more natural. There was also one curl clump coming straight out of the center top that made the volume look ridiculous so I straight up just cut it off. Honestly I didn't feel the need to pluck at all... I started pulling a little bit out at the hairline but realized it didn't matter with bangs. The part is sort of a circular center in the top of my head, so if you like to have a certain part this might not be for you but I think I'll usually cover that up with a headband or a small half bun.

I was very comfortable and confident in this all day yesterday, and I feel a lot more brave about going out now.

Idk if filters are allowed but I used the gingham instagram filter on this photo. The color is soft black, which I often dye my hair to.

I like Samsbeauty as a force of habit. They don't have the most expansive selection, but they ship fast and they don't spam me; have been shopping there for years. If you're buying a synthetic wig, I wouldn't recommend spending more than $50. There are tons of good quality synthetic units in that price range and lower. Especially since synthetics are going to last you about 6-8 weeks, tops, with daily wear (speaking from experience). The ends are going to frizz and start looking a mess, eventually. You can mitigate it with a good spray (I bought this one) a flat iron, or even trimming, but texture change is inevitable unfortunately.

Cap construction for most synthetics is going to make high ponytails tough, but they're doable with a bit of finesse (there's tutorials for it). I'm a fan of Sensationnel's Cloud 9 line. The lace can come across ashy if you don't blend it, but the hairlines for the price are unbeatable. You won't have to do anything to it. You'd probably like this one, from the description of what you're considering. Not an insanely long length, not a silky "doll" texture, and would probably look really cute in a high pony.

Oh, and to protect your edges as well as secure the wig (no band needed), Wig Grip. 10 bucks. Wish they'd been invented sooner.

Hey! So, I realize you already said wigs were not in the budget, but I have to let you know that there are some amazingly high quality options out there for amazingly low prices. I’m bigender and hopelessly bald. So much so that I shave my head smooth when boy and do the wig when a girl. None of my wigs cost more than $40, and one of my favorites was only around $17 or so... something like that. All purchased from Amazon.

Most MtF resources steer girls toward shoulder length, wavy, layered hair styles, but if your girlfriend likes one thing or another, she should totally go with that. Against all reason, with my broad shoulders, I tend to like shorter hairstyles and will usually dress to flatter the body. Everyone does it differently. Good luck to you both! Y’all I started wearing wigs for my occasional avant garde modeling photoshoots and then progressed to wearing them whenever I felt I needed a change. There are so many affordable options that can be revamped to look more expensive and realistic so I encourage everyone to check amazon out. I ALWAYS check the review section before purchasing to see customer photos of their wigs. That’s a good litmus test to see quality. 😉

Thank you!! I got most of everything off of amazon because I had a gift card! This is the wig and these are the boots! The only thing I did to the wig was cut it, but I weathered the boots with acrylic paints and fake blood, and folded it down and painted the edge too! The knee pads are just scrap pieces of pleather :)
