Well normally the pins are inserted into a square cut out of lightweight foam that provides some cushioning. I'm not sure if the foam is a special type of anti-static foam though.

The best thing would be to find one of the hard-shell plastic cases that CPU's come in (or a similar plastic case), as the foam is probably not critical, whereas you really want to have that tight-fitting case.

EDIT: Apparently you can get anti-static foam:

http://www.amazon.com/FOAM-CONDUCTIVE-ANTI-STATIC-INCH-x12/dp/B00B88717I

Here is the plastic case:

http://www.amazon.com/Computer-CPU-Packaging-ClamShell-Container/dp/B00I61322S/ref=sr_1_cc_2?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1414333035&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=cpu+clamshell

It claims "100% perfect fit, no need to add ESD foam"

I usually just slip the board back into the ESD bag it came in before storing it. If you managed to buy a board without an ESD bag, you can pick some up pretty cheaply on Amazon.

Other than that, I've not taken much precaution while working with dev boards (though I do refuse to hand a board directly to someone else if we're not both grounded--I always set it on a table and make them pick it up) and, in 16 years, I've never damaged one with ESD. However, I consider myself lucky. If you live someplace especially dry or you seem to be especially static-prone or you're working with boards that you absolutely cannot afford to fry, then you might buy an ESD mat and grounding strap to use when handling your boards. Here's an option from Amazon (first search result, you might look around a bit before purchasing): https://www.amazon.com/Bertech-Wrist-Strap-Grounding-0-093/dp/B00O0Q03KM

For storage though, an ESD bag should be more than sufficient.

For my first round with lymphoma I did C.H.O.P. treatment, that was the easy one, 48 hours off work for each treatment, but I worked the rest of the time full 8-5 in the office every day. However, I started a strict regiment of Miralax on Sunday before my treatment was given to me on Monday, and would finally have a movement by Thursday (I know probably TMI, but you asked). I would suggest getting him a portable potty chair so that he doesn't have to make the trip out to the outhouse, that can be dumped in the outhouse, but since (I am assuming here) the outhouse goes into the ground, you might want to consider not using that for 48 hours after chemo due to the toxins, ask the doctor about that. Also, invest in these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004YTW1SM for him! Just get one box to start with, and you can ask the treatment center for more. However if he is being treated for lymphoma, odds are that they will pair it with steroid treatment as well. I had 100mgs/day for 5 days after treatment. That is what helped keep my energy levels up, but by Sunday I would crash and sleep most of the day.

My second round of treatment was R.I.C.E., and more difficult, I got a little I.V. on Monday, checked into the hospital on Tuesday, got hooked up for 3 days, released on Friday. Then back to work on Monday.

Chemo is individual, it has a different effect on everyone. Both of my treatments were set at an every 3 week schedule, so it was Week 1 sucked, Week 2 Better, Week 3 Great, repeat. So make sure if that is his schedule, plan fun things for that week 3.

EDIT: Originally diagnosed ALCL 3/15/12, relapsed 6/31/12, auto stem cell transplant 12/04/12.

I use the Mechanix M-pact framer gloves. They have great knuckle protection, D3o palm padding, phenomenal grip and I like the fact that they have cut off fingers for better brake feel.

They make the same glove in a full finger model too.

Thanks for the info :) Might be a bit more bulky than a module would allow.

I found these small ones but a review says it's just way too small to give any useful readings :x whoops!

u/mem_somerville · 2 pointsr/skeptic

Yeah, I kind of agree. Why Amazon, and not your local CVS pharmacy selling homeopathy? Or the actual huge quackeroos like Mercola or Mike Adams in the US?

I also showed Julia the Brain Coat. I mean--hey, if we are taking people's money for BS.... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K0PX1KG/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_x_BdZZxbH1AW932

A couple of posts I used to work involved using an x-ray at a few entrances. I was assured that any dosage I received was far below dangerous, but I always kept one of these in my uniform pocket just in case. I'd say worth it for peace of mind.

Inside phone is ... harder, but for outside-phone detector, there is already something out there: https://www.amazon.com/Careshine-Radiation-Counter-nuclear-Detector/dp/B015W2HU5I/

When I was testing it with exempt-quantity radioactive sources, it worked well enough; it's going to be trickier with alphas, trying to ensure they can reach the detector (I remember it working fine with cesium and strontium sources, which emit betas and gammas).

Anyways---if it's anything other than just a novelty item, I'd much rather have an actual dosimeter (for exposure monitoring purposes) or an actual calibrated Geiger counter (for whatever purpose it might be).

u/Z3FM · 2 pointsr/crtgaming

Yeah, when you think about it, there is no need to plug something into the main outlet if you are discharging, even if you only want ground. When working on old electronics of unknown status, never leave it to chance. Also, the outlet ground should be confirmed to connect to true earth ground.

But anyway here's a safer device than attaching the wall plate screw: https://www.amazon.com/StaticTek-Adapter-Universal-Connection-Unbreakable/dp/B071J61CSV

If cost really isn't an issue, the Thermo Fisher EPD TruDose is what we use at my facility, and I know from travel that it (or its now-discontinued predecessor, the EPD Mk2) is widely used throughout the industry. I've also used the DMC3000 and it's great too. Both have belt clips with displays that face up.

Really though, for the amount of dose we're talking about, and if you don't intend to use it on an ongoing basis or have it form part of an official dosimetry record, you'll do just as well with something for about $100 on Amazon.

I have a version of this; it has the best size and feature-to-price ratio. I opened it up; the PCB is marked in Russian; although they certainly hide that fact unless you do some research.

I'd say it's a lot better than not being able to tell when you're being microwaved. And you can wear one of these caps to protect your brain. https://www.amazon.com/Brain-Coat-Shielding-your-Mind/dp/B00K0PX1KG/ref=pd_cp_121_1/143-2367951-0003128?8JDAPCTZQCFQKPNFVS3N

Lookin Great!

But that little bucket will quickly get clogged / problematic.

I might recommend something like this or this. You can easily add a bulkhead fitting and give yourself a way to have the water spill back in the pond. Then you pack a few mint / horsetail / lizard tail in there and you won't have much of a water clarity problem at all.

Too much plant filtration is just right.

PS. this is a great product as well, but you can't fit as many plants in it. 1 pot of mint would do wonders tho.

u/tsuuga · 2 pointsr/NoStupidQuestions

You're going to pay like a thousand bucks for that much bubble solution, plus shipping and handling. My advice would be to pick up an empty drum, a couple of buckets of liquid detergent, and a gallon of glycerin; and make it yourself in your back yard. You'd be looking at more like $250 plus shipping (particularly, you're going to save S&H on 400 pounds of water). There's lots of recipes online but you'd generally be looking at 1 part detergent to 6-8 parts water, and 1 part glycerin to 12-16 parts detergent.

u/witz25 · 4 pointsr/buildapc

They sell anti-static mats, like this. That being said putting the motherboard on the box that it came in to install the CPU is fine. The GPU can go on top of its box and everything else can either be left in its packaging or on the desk/table until you need it. Just don't put it on the floor.

u/dwholmlund · 1 pointr/pics

Wow, that is really helpful. I recently had a kid and I'm kind of paranoid about exposing him to stuff and thought it might be a fun educational tool later so for a few months I've been thinking about getting something like http://smile.amazon.com/RADEX-Advanced-Radiation-Detector-Software/dp/B00DAITFOG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1427764044&sr=8-5&keywords=geiger+counter . Do you happen to know anything about these RADEX brand counters? I'm guessing the Ludlum 14c is way more accurate but these RADEX ones are tempting because they seem more portable and at least slightly cheaper assuming I buy it new.

u/hobo1256 · 1 pointr/bodyweightfitness

I recommend these for the winter. It'd be a little tough to do muscle ups with them due to the extra grip provided but your hands and fingers will feel like summer.

If you want something buy it for life, get one of these industrial safety cans, you can always repaint it if you don't like the bright emergency color. these things are awesome, way heavy duty, the pedal mechanism will outlast any regular home kitchen can by 50x.

I just ordered my own since they are apparently cheap now:

Will have it in two days if amazon does its usual thing and will report back.

You really don't want to risk something gimmicky for this. I'm also in the market for a radon detector, and I'm thinking of something like this one: https://www.amazon.com/RADEX-Advanced-Radiation-Detector-Software/dp/B00DAITFOG/

Minute-by-minute smartphone updates isn't something remotely useful for a radon detector, but being able to upload the data to a computer is, so I can have graphs of data over time.
