Fair. He probably has a standing order of lard cubes, that way he can suck on them all night like a jolly rancher.

u/Amonkira42 · 7 pointsr/trashy

Yep It's got more of a funk to it than schmatlz, but it's really nice for cooking eggs.

Most stores will have it in their ethnic areas. Look for Ghee. Whole Foods definitely has it, TJs, any other speciality kind of store too I'd imagine. Or just go to Amazon.

Grapeseed oil has a high smoke point, which I have used to season cast iron. But so does ghee , with a nice flavor.

That doesn't sound like bulletproof coffee at all. BPC is coffee with MCT oil + grass fed butter, neither of which you mentioned. What you're describing sounds like typical Starbucks high sugar dessert crap.

If you want to try real bulletproof coffee, do this:

  1. Grass fed Brown butter ghee (Kerrygold grass-fed is fine too)
  2. Brain Octane oil (MCT)
  3. Some high quality organic coffee.

It makes a significant difference to do it the "right" way and I recommend trying it. I was very skeptical when I ordered the gear to make it, but I wouldn't go back to coffee the normal way. I add spices to mine by no sweeteners because it tastes so good just like that.

Change your definitions. :) If you want to get similar flavors but be able to use high heat, then you need the high heat versions. No fancy dark green extra virgin olive oil; you need the cheaper (just plain) olive oil, maybe even pomace olive oil that comes in a big scary tin like auto fluid ;). Then buy (or make, if you are really bored) clarified butter aka Ghee for the butter component. Mix together, and fry as hot as you wish. Deep fry with it, if you want.

.62/oz vs $7.50/oz.

Car oil works fine(Mobile 1, Rotella, etc), Rem oil works fine. Gun oils have more BS than even gas stations and their "special additives"

Sorry to report this, but the lard that is available in grocery stores is almost certain to be hydrogenated and therefore full of trans fats and without the health benefits of "real" lard.

Good quality, non hydrogenated lard is pricey.

Try this stuff. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001FA1DG4?pc_redir=1409147346&robot_redir=1

I wish I could give you a decent review of it but I can't. I'm a fairly accomplished baker but for some reason pie crust is my nemesis. I've used this in place of shortening in recipes that call for both butter and shortening/lard - was probably ATK's.

I’ve been drinking black coffee, but I just found a Keto creamer. I haven’t tried it yet but maybe it might be an option for you.

6lb of Fireclean comes out cheaper

I second the recommendation for ghee. Trader Joe's sells it in 8oz jars which can also be bought on amazon. Ghee does not need to be refrigerated, so you could probably use it throughout the whole trail.

Vegetable shortening. Here.

u/Sselnoisiv · 1 pointr/zerocarb

It came out to 2.5 quarts. Did not try their premade tallow.

I included an order of the cherry and honey pemmican from US Wellness Meats, but they are not shelf stable. And it was terrible. I think I should have tried the plain. My husband "didn't mind" it, however.

Previously, I had bought this: https://www.amazon.com/Beef-Tallow-Finest-Quality-Gallon/dp/B06WWG7P4Z?ref_=bl_dp_s_web_2591429011 but in the quart, which is fairly expensive. It tastes the same to me as the homemade one, so I'll probably go back to this brand.

u/BillClam · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

I want this because I want to know what the hell it is.

I do not want a boat like this
