>I know there's some HDMI to VGA converters on Amazon, anyone have experience with these?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O55U8K

Haven't had a chance to actually try it out with my PS3, but it's worked wonderfully for both my Wii U and Switch. This isn't the only decent one out there, just the one I have personal good experience with.

You could hypothetically get a cheapo little composite to VGA converter that would work, but the picture quality would be garbage amongst there being other issues. The proper way to do it would be to get a line doubler of some sort. Someone else will have to recommend you a good one of those though.

I was able to use my projector which only has a vga input and a direct TV genie box using this, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O55U8K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

I just bought the portta converter today. That's what /u/SwervinGirvin recommended for my FW900.

Ohhhh man. You're in luck!
I've been down this road before with my PS3. Keep in mind, I did this with my Playstation 3 and assuming it would be the same for PS4....

The ONLY difference between the ps3 and ps4 are the OUT ports. The ps3 would allow you to hook up one of the old connectors to allow audio to get piped thru the analog singal (red/white). This is now gone w/ the PS4 and only can do audio via HDMI or Optical.

But, check this out. You'll have to pump the audio thru Optical OR I'm pretty sure the audio will work on this one too. B/c, I've only used this device for Video, but there is no reason audio would not work as well.

Happy gaming :)

EDIT:
Mine actually looks like this...the one I have is diff than the one I ordered (Amazon Order history). Odd. ..

You can't use a straight through adapter like that. You need a converter box that supports hdcp. Something like this guy: http://www.amazon.com/Portta-PETHV-converter-Converter-Windows-10/dp/B003O55U8K

u/sonicpieman · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I don't believe the One is compatible with a mouse at all. You'd have to mod a controller to act mice like to get that functionality.

As far as the monitor goes, many monitors these days accept HDMI input, I'd get one of those. Worse case you'd need a HDMI-to-VGA adapter.

Edit:

External speakers with 3.5 input can be used with a VGA adapter (see below) or with a digital to analog adapter (see below)

I just did some digging, and is this the device you're using?

u/SwervinGirvin · 2 pointsr/crtgaming

HD Fury has a couple fancy, and pricy options.

Sunix is also a recommended

TenDak and Portta are my HDMI to VGA adapters of choice, but these are used with consoles and not a PC so they don't have to have any more than 1080p60 output.

This page is also helpful, although directly talking about OSSC compatibility, the adapters talked about are still very noteworthy.

u/divampire · 2 pointsr/wiiu

This should work.

EDIT: I think you will need an alternative source for audio though, unless you just want to use the audio through the Gamepad.

u/Dalmanfsu · 2 pointsr/miniSNES

You're going to need an HDCP compliant powered converter if you want to go from HDMI to VGA. Something like the following:

OR

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XDNJ6RM/

u/Dirgon · 2 pointsr/xbox360

Not without downscaling from an HDMI/DVI signal to a VGA.

If your monitor had DVI input you could just use an HDMI->DVI cable, as there's no signal exchange needed there.

You'll need to find a VGA-HDMI converter. Like this and something else to allow you to plug speaker in to the RCA connectors there if you don't have RCA speakers.

What this should do is splits the HDMI signal in to a separate audio and video stream, both analog (HDMI coming out of the 360 is digital).

This allows you to use your monitor as if it were a TV. You'll have to disconnect it from your xbox first.

Directly connecting TO the PC requires a capture card and is quite a bit more expensive.

Hello!

I think that the only solution for Your problem is using a HDMI to VGA converter, like this.

u/kengorecore · 2 pointsr/24hoursupport

Shit, I should have read closer. So would something like this http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-VGA-converter-Audio-Converter/dp/B003O55U8K work?

u/Zagor64 · 2 pointsr/fireTV

You are going from a digital (HDMI) to analog (VGA) so you will need some kind of converter/transcoder, also don't forget that HDMI carries audio so if you need to convert the audio (if you can't make use of the optical port already on the FireTV), something like this should work.

u/brysmi · 2 pointsr/chromeos

I think the key is that you won't find "adapters", but you can get a converter. HDMI-to-DVI adapters, yes. HDMI-to-SVGA converters, yes.

Curiously, there are DVI-to-SVGA adapters all over the place. I don't want to learn the difference between formats, I just wanted to do what the OP probably wanted -- justify the semi-retired monitor under in the closet. Now I think I just need a new monitor and a single HDMI cable.

Aaaaanyway: http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-VGA-converter-Audio-Converter/dp/B003O55U8K/

That is what I was thinking of getting if I go the VGA route. It outputs the sound to left and right.

Currently, I have found a few potential solutions that may work. I will report back my findings tomorrow.
Thanks for the response though.

u/Manny_rat · 1 pointr/crtgaming

Positive, though I can't vouch for every adapter on the market of course :)

I'm sorry I didn't mean to claim it does line by line processing, I just meant that it doesn't do anything with a frame buffer which means there isn't real potential to cause lag as it's not performing any processing on the frames, as I understand it's simply transcoding the digital signal to analog. Even the odd refresh rates of my Neo Geo come through according to the info screen on my CRT, so it's not changing it to 60hz or anything either.

I am not claiming to be an expert on how it works however, I'm sure someone more knowledgable than me could chime in.

I did a simple test with mine when I bought it using the 240 suite manual lag test on a Genesis and there was no lag reported, identical to the same test on my PVM direct through SCART to RGB (Obviously it's the manual test so it's not scientific, but it was good enough for me)

Some random sites that eventually lead me to buying it if you'd like more information:

They confirm here that the fury is lag free.
https://www.videogameperfection.com/2013/06/04/lag-tester-review/

This is the thread where they were testing various adapters for OSSC usage, they talk a tiny bit about lag.

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=59860

http://retrorgb.com/converters.html confirms that https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O55U8K is lag free, and I trust his information generally.

I'm going to assume that the majority of hdmi to vga transcoders are essentially lag free since these are.

Obviously use your own judgment but I'm quite happy with my setup :) I originally planned to use the OSSC on my plasma tv until I discovered this usage for it, and it has remained attached to my CRT ever since. I just recently beat Link to the Past on my 1-Chip with this setup and it looked and played great.

I us this for my setup and it's gud. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O55U8K

Get an hdmi to dvi cable off of amazon

Also..are you sure that its not a VGA connection on your TV? I might be wrong but it sounds weird for there to be a dvi input on your TV and no HDMI inputs...if so, you'd need a [converter] ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003O55U8K?pc_redir=1407178985&robot_redir=1) to go from digital to analog and then buy a VGA cable.

u/KareemMyJeans · 1 pointr/crtgaming

The picture on my VGA CRT keeps going in and out and I cant get a stable picture. I'm trying to get picture on other consoles and a PC with Groovymame/Hyperspin on it that already works fine with my PVM.

I'm using this HDMI to VGA adapter that is plugged into my OSSC. Thoughts on what might be wrong?

u/germanplumber · 1 pointr/gamernews

No this will not work. The first problem you have is that it is just a cable which won't work. The reason is HDMI is digital and VGA is analog. You are doing for something that isn't possible. What you need is a HDMI to VGA converter. Second problem and if you read the customer reviews in my link, you will see HDCP won't pass for devices like blu-ray players. All these points are moot though, because you can't find CRTs anymore when you shop for TVs, and HDTVs have been out long enough now, everyone should have one. It doesn't make sense to have a $400 (I'm guessing) game system like the xbox one, and not have money to buy a HDTV for $150. First world problems indeed.

u/Random_Hero1989 · 1 pointr/ouya

Hmm, good question, I went too fast and didn't bother to check the inputs/outputs, I'll get back to ya

Update: Here this might work, VGA might be the way to go

u/hopstar · 1 pointr/PS3

They make HDMI to VGA converters.

This one has been recommended several times:

Portta HDMI to VGA Video... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003O55U8K?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I bought one a couple of months ago, and it works great.

u/ezramoore · 1 pointr/techsupport

Looks like VGA is your only option on that monitor.

You can try this: http://www.amazon.com/PETHV-converter-3-5mm-Stereo-Converter/dp/B003O55U8K

u/DurraSell · 1 pointr/appletv

Dammit. That's my fault. The HDMI -> VGA I used was in the exact same box. Have a look at this one. You'll want to make sure you get the power adapter to go with it.

u/pprstrt · 1 pointr/projectors

I've had no luck with HDMI -> VGA cables/dongles. HMDI -> DVI or DisplayPort cables work but never to VGA. Can you input to something else? Or use a powered option?

You also might try forcing DHCP 1.4 on your PS4, I had to do this with my old projector when I went HDMI on the PS4 -> DVI on the projector.

u/Hawkuro · 1 pointr/AskTechnology

You could instead get an HDMI to VGA and 3.5mm Audio converter, like this one, they seem to be around $20 on amazon. There was also an HDMI to DVI and 3.5mm Audio converter when I searched, but it was more expensive, maybe you can find a cheaper one if you shop around.

u/kliff0rd · 1 pointr/techsupport

Something like this should be fine. There's not going to be a huge difference in quality unless you go professional grade.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/techsupport

Yes, I know which cable you had. I use that also but to connect my HDMI monitor to a DVI port on my computer. You can't use that cable to connect a DVI monitor to an HDMI port on your computer. You will need a special adapter, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-VGA-converter-Audio-Converter/dp/B003O55U8K/

u/jeffnelsonjeffnelson · 0 pointsr/chromeos

What model Chromebooks did you procure? Some Chromebooks support a DRM standard called HDCP - which means you may need a HDMI dongle that supports HDCP.

This option might meet your needs and is cheaper than some of the other HDCP compatible dongles, but you might want to order one to test before committing to a big order.
