I'm not MuffinPuff, but I do love mustards...

Generally speaking, mustard is mustard. That said, there are, of course, a wide variety of mustards. Potted meat sandwiches are improved with the use of pretty much any sort, but I'm going to give some recommendations anyway!

Most prepared yellow mustards are quite similar, but if you want (what I consider to be) the best yellow mustard, you want Plochman's. If you can find it at your local grocer it will cost much, much less than the amazon price. $2 a bottle, if that.

Brown mustard is a bit spicier than yellow, due in large part to both the increased volume (and coarser grind) of the mustard seed. Where brown mustard is concerned I consider Gulden's to be one of the best readily available brands. Practically every grocery store carries this stuff, and it's inexpensive.

Now, there are tons of other varieties of mustard out there, but I'm only going to cover one last type: Honey Mustard. This stuff is good on almost anything, blending the spiciness of mustard with the sweetness of honey. If I can find it, I prefer to use Deitz & Watson Zesty Honey Mustard. This shit is beyond words good. It can be tough to find in a grocery store, but if the store's deli carries Deitz & Watson lunch meats, then the chances of finding it are vastly improved. It won't be in the condiments section, but rather near the deli case, usually in a dedicated display along with other condiments from D&W. Again, you'll pay much less for this stuff, compared to the amazon price, if you can find it at a grocery store. I think I usually pay $3.50 for a bottle.

Enjoy!

Based on your comment, I'll assume you're not American, so I'm not surprised. It's a very regional thing. It originated from and is still really only served in Cleveland, Ohio. It was originally served at Cleveland Indians baseball games, and is still a staple at Cleveland sporting events. You can find it in some nearby cities, but even in Cincinnati (4 hours away, and in the same state) it's almost completely unknown.

Here is a link to the original and best one, Bertman's: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000E1G6Z/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1453910469&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=bertman%27s+ballpark+mustard&dpPl=1&dpID=51KfluNSy8L&ref=plSrch

It's pretty cheap, and worth a try, and I'm sure Amazon can get it to wherever you are! I recommend trying it on a hotdog (boiled is more authentic to the ballpark) with ketchup and American yellow mustard for the true experience.

u/qqmylifeisover · 1 pointr/whole30

They are whole 30 approved! I live on the north eastern side of the USA and we love our crunchy health foods. The extra light olive oil is Bertolli brand and mentions that some of the olives are sourced from Protugal, what a tiny world we live in! The Dijon is from Annie's Organics, which has white vinegar, mustard seed, sea salt, and clove. If ordering off amazon is of help, here's a link: https://www.amazon.com/Annies-Organic-Dijon-Mustard-9-Ounces/dp/B001EO5XTO

and just to be thorough, here is a link to the garlic chili sauce and the coconut aminos!

It sounds like a drag not having access to compliant ingredients. Good luck on your journey!

I have used the following recipe to great effect.

Source: Cooks Country
Recipe: Grilled Brats in Beer

Ingredients:

  • 4 onions
  • 3Tbs vegetable oil plus more for cooking grate
  • ground black pepper
  • 2 12oz beers (bottles or cans) see NOTE
  • 2/3c Dijon mustard swap for whatever mustard you like i prefer Kosciusko
  • 1ts sugar
  • 1ts caraway seed i toast mine
  • 10 bratwurst i like Johnsonville or Kayem sadly there are no local producers around here
  • 10 sub rolls i like rolls with hard crusts that don't get soggy
  • vegetable oil for cooking grate

    Directions

  1. Arrange 50 coals over bottom of grill. Light large chimney start filled with charcoal (6qts about 100 briquettes) and burn until coals are fully ignited and partially covered with thin layer of ash; pour evenly over cold coals. Position cooking grate over coals, over grill, open lid vent completely, and heat grate until hot about 5min. Scrape grate clean with grill brush. Dip wad of paper towels in oil; holding wad with tongs, wipe gooking grate. Grill is ready when coals are hot (hand 2 sec 5in above grate is the longest you can hold you hand there before injury). Brush onions with oil and season with ground pepper. Whisk beer, mustard, sugar, caraway, and 1ts pepper in aluminum pan.
  2. Arrange aluminum pan on one side of grill and grill onions on the other side until lightly charred 6-10min. Transfer onions to pan and grill sausage until browned on all sides 6-10min. Transfer sausages to pan, cover grill and simmer until sausages are cooked through about 15min. Remove cooked sausages from pan and grill until lightly charred, about 4min. Transfer sausages to plate/platter and tent with foil.
  3. Continue to simmer beer mixture, with grill covered , until onions are tender and sauce is slightly thickened, about 5min. Place bratwurst in rolls and spoon on sauce and onions. Serve.

NOTE: We tested 8 lagers in our recipe for Grilled Brats in Beer, and tasters overwhelmingly preferred the mellow sweetness of Budweiser. MGD was our second choice with tasters praising it's mild, malty flavor. More expensive imported beers, such as Heineken and Spaten, were bitter when reduced in the sauce; reserve those beers for drinking.

The first time i did this recipe i ignored the above note and used one of my nice hoppy homebrews for the sauce. Damned if these guys weren't right the flavors intensified to the point that they overwhelmed the brats themselves. I have since used a variety of what i would usually consider to be piss poor beers (Bud, MGD, Coors, Narragansett, and even Schaefer) and the sauce comes out much better surprise surprise.

NOT OUR DIVISION

Well first, here is my item: DELICIOUS I know it seems weird, but trust me, this is THE most delicious mustard in the WORLD! They don't sell it here in NYC, but growing up in Ohio, it's all I would put on my hotdogs and cheeseburgers.

As for my guilty pleasure song...well, it's this And there's a bit of backstory: I used to work at Best Buy and I switched shifts with a co-worker in the Media Department for an early morning shift, so I could have the weekend off.

I THOUGHT I was the only one on my section of the store floor, so I went to iTunes and put on "Hit Me Baby One More Time", cranked it up and went about changing prices and setting up sales displays. Well, maybe it was he giant can of Monster I drank to wake me up, or the doughnuts and coffee my manager brought in for everyone, but soon the rhythm started to get to me. My toe started tapping, my head starting nodding, and soon I was shaking my ass, using the handle of my scanner gun as a microphone.

I put on this little show for a bit, before I heard some stifled laughter. So I turned around to see THE ENTIRE WORK FORCE STAFF watching me shake my white boy ass. For the rest of my tenure at Best Buy, they referred to me as "Mr. Spears"

I buy french mustard on Amazon. Just bought this, it was a little cheaper when I bought it. But I got a jug of regular Amora dijon a few months ago and it is the best dijon I've ever had. I also got some coarse grained Maille, It's good stuff, but I like the Amora even better. All of it is clearly from the source. (French labels, etc.)

u/LameTurd · 2 pointsr/lincoln

I can't help you with measurements as I don't use them when I cook but I have gotten really close with mayo, garlic, sugar, A1 steak sauce, grey poupon country dijon mustard and some salt & pepper. Make sure it's the country dijon like this and not just standard grey poupon dijon.

Add the A1 just a little at a time or it will overpower the dressing. Good luck.

u/marty_mclarge_fries · 14 pointsr/WahoosTipi

The bottles of Bertman's on amazon look like they still have Wahoo on them.

https://www.amazon.com/Bertman-Original-Ball-Park-Mustard/dp/B0000E1G6Z

edit: Stadium mustard and Bertman's Ballpark mustard are different. Since you mentioned Wahoo I'm assuming you mean Bertman's.

edit2: and yes, its worth it. best mustard I've ever had.

u/natelyswhore22 · 6 pointsr/Cooking

If you have access to bavarian sweet mustard (Kroger sells their own variety) it is AMAZING on grilled cheese. If you want the good stuff, get this: https://www.amazon.com/H%C3%A4ndlmaiers-Sweet-Bavarian-Mustard-13-4/dp/B003U28EHG

u/weimarunner · 2 pointsr/artc

Holy yum. Definitely do the brussels sprouts. I like coleslaw with ribs/bbq, but you should definitely have sauerkraut and a good spicy german mustard for the brats.

u/sterling_mallory · 2 pointsr/Cooking

Sounds like you're looking more for traditional, sinus clearing hot mustard as opposed to anything with capsaicin. In that case you want this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/Zakuson-ZAKUSON8-8-Gourmet-Mustard-Hot/dp/B003LYSTBO

I've tried a lot of mustards, but that one's by far the hottest.

For something hot but not quite as hot, and with really good flavor:

https://www.amazon.com/THOMY-Scharfer-mustard-100ml-German/dp/B00GMDXLKK/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1535932824&sr=1-3-fkmr0&keywords=tommy+scharfer+senf

Another good choice is Colman's which you can find in jars at most grocery stores, Walmart, etc.

u/UnconfirmedCat · 2 pointsr/xxfitness

TJ's basil mustard is a real sinus punch, in the very best way. And I live in mustard land, I have like 30+ to choose from at my local normal chain grocer. The basil mustard can only perhaps be compared to horseradish mustard but the kick really isn't the same. I highly suggest getting the mustard variety pack at TJ's that also comes with an amazing Provençal type with red pepper, really mouth watering!

u/someonesaveus · 1 pointr/recipes

Not a recipe but this stuff is very very good - Beaver Brand Sweet Hot Mustard, 13 oz Squeezable Bottles, 2 pk https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KPX3ZF4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_JqC0BbD81CZAD

u/ILoveLamp9 · 1 pointr/funny

Yeah, as your results probably showed you, it has no horseradish in it. Although it definitely feels like it.

Here's the one I had in mind. My folks love this stuff, but I can't tolerate it. And this is coming from someone who enjoys dijon.

u/Anechoic_Brain · -2 pointsr/Cooking

Are you sure? Here's what it looks like. It's made in Chicago and in fact is one of the original mustards of choice for Chicago Style Hot Dogs. It's now owned by a food conglomerate from Switzerland.

Granted I'm from Minneapolis which isn't far from Chicago, but it's in every supermarket in my area. It's by far the best yellow mustard you can get without going to a specialty shop.

u/Beer_in_an_esky · 4 pointsr/todayilearned

Head down to the grocery store and grab some Maille seeded mustard. It's cheap (though not so much in that amazon link, I usually pay like a third of that), and it seems to be available worldwide.

Goes really well on basically any meat.

Also, Hot English. Soooo good.

Inglehoffer mustards are great, I get them all the time. I think that Stone Ground refers to the rougher texture due to the different production process.

I also have like eight or nine different mustards open in my fridge right now, but I kinda wish I wasn't out of my English mustard

I'd use whatever mustard I have on hand. But lately I started buying mustard in mind with making mayo - my go to is just an off brand Dijon mustard. I don't like the type with little beads (seeds) in it, so I just go for smooth type. Sometimes I use Russian Dijon Mustard, called Mother's-in-law Mustard by Zakuson brand it tastes a lot like wasabi.

Mustard acts as an additional emulsifier, but no mustard works as well.

I do use the whole egg, but I did try only egg whites ones, I didn't like it very much, it was not as tasty.

My mayonnaise ends up yellowish in colour, but not too much.

My process is this - I put an egg, salt, acid, and mustard into a tall container (that usually comes with a handheld blender) and start the blending while slowly adding oil. I blend, lifting the blender up and down a couple of times, slowly, until I get the consistency I want. It literally takes 60 seconds from start to finish, including getting all the ingredients.

And if I add anchovies, and some parmesan into the mix, I get Caesar dressing :)

Yeah it's great. I'd like something with the exact same general taste but just a bit spicier, but I've yet to find it despite buying basically every new mustard I see.

The other stuff I mentioned you probably won't find in normal supermarkets. Maybe Russian ones. Here it is on Amazon. According to my Russian ex, the name translates to "mother in law".

Try this stuff. You can get it at an international market for a better price.

Palmer: I suggest you buy a jar of this mustard. I can't keep it in my fridge because I eat half the jar with a spoon.
